- JoseyWales18650 contributionsOur Hobart Highlight - getting off the touristy trail on Kunanyi (Mt Wellington)Last year wife and I, in our late 60s, managed to find a gap in Covid restrictions and travelled to Tasmania for a Five Huts walk with Andy from Walk on Kunanyi. This was the highlight of our visit to Hobart. We've been to Hobart before but visited only the summit, like I suppose most people would. By taking this walk we went back in time learning the history of the Indigenous and European people who had lived, worked and hunted here. Andy is an expert guide with a real passion for Kunanyi. Not only the history, but also the flora, fauna and geological formations. A wonderful experience with a highly knowledgeable guide. Very safe and accommodating of our relatively relaxed pace. When we return to Hobart we will definitely be taking another Kunanyi walk with Andy.Written 16 June 2022
- alexS2158EF0 contributionsAn unforgettable day!Andy provided an unforgettable day across Hobart and around kunanyi / Mt Wellington. Delightful views, conversation, food, and education on local indigenous people, flora, and fauna. He truly cares about the conservation of this area, and is an active sustainability ambassador in his business practices. I continue to recommend Walk on Kunanyi to all of my friends and family visiting the area, and even as a reason to go to Hobart in the first place!Written 15 June 2022
- 837stuw0 contributionsOutstanding walk, outstanding guide!Really outstanding walk in a beautiful setting with a really great host. Andy knows his stuff! In particular the description of the native flora and fauna, geography and geology were all outstanding. The coffee and pastries at the end were a massive bonus. Couldn't recommend Andy highly enough.Written 14 June 2022
- Jackie N0 contributionsExcellent and Informative tourWe did the In the Footsteps of Charles Darwin half day tour and found it to be excellent. We learned so much about both Charles Darwin and the mountain that we did not know. Our guide was very knowledgeable and took us to places we didn’t even know existed. Fabulous tour.Written 12 June 2022

- E7924FCclaudiab0 contributionsGreat experienceWe did the night time stargazing tour with the astronomy society and it was absolutely awesome. We got to learn about the stars and use an awesome telescope. We also got given some snacks and warm drinks throughout the night and had great chats about Tasmania, kunanyi and the stars with our tours guides and fellow guest. I would definitely recommend this tour for those interested in science and the stars!Written 11 June 2022

Even though it was a misty and overcast day, it only added to the majestic beauty and intrigue of our walk to the famous Organ Pipes. Andy took us on an adventure with his skill full story telling and vast knowledge, taking us on a journey of wonderment through our magnificent Australian history. If you are planning on walking Mount Wellington, do it justice by joining Andy, you will find no better to share the experience with. - rubyn6800 contributionsOrgan Pipes Tour - Incredible Walking tour!Walk on Kunanyi provided a magical walking experience! Absolutely fantastic. Andy was friendly, informative and provided some delicious coffee and baked treats along the way. Andy provided a lot of information about the local palawa people, the rock structures/formation and Hobart history. It was truly fantastic, and I can’t wait to come back to Hobart to do another tour with Andy! Cannot Walk on Kunanyi enough!!!Written 31 March 2022
- genkiv0 contributionsEasy introduction to kunanyiIf you are wanting a smaller group experience on kunanyi I recommend going with Andy. I did the easier "In Darwin's Footsteps" tour but I think anything he offers would be great value as he is passionate and full of knowledge of the area. He also carbon offsets his tours and is doing some additional public work like assisting with Mental Health Week. I was surprised how easy to access the mountain is from Hobart and suggest anyone staying in Hobart at least see kunanyi on one tour.Written 26 November 2021
- LoveTravel1479600 contributionsA walk that I to treasureExceptional views, learning about the history of early settlers and Aboriginal people from our guide, Andy, and the challenge of the hike were highlights that I will remember for a long time. Andy also treated us to a delicious morning tea and lunch. The walk was the highlight of my 14 day tour of Tasmania in May 2021. Highly recommend the walk if you like a bit of physical activity.Written 7 April 2021
- lauradA4906HQ0 contributionsFab experienceA great way to see Mt Wellington 👏🏻 Very positive experience from the start of the walk at Constitution Dock to the top of Mt Wellington. Really well organised and knowledgeable guide, great snacks and food provided along the way, and a real sense of accomplishment when making it to the top. As a bonus, we saw an echidna and a pademelon on the way up Mt Wellington. Highly recommended.Written 12 December 2020
- NLJ2470 contributionsHighly recommend- a great dayI completed the Sea to Summit hike this week and can highly recommend it. I was initially not sure which hike to book and Andy was extremely helpful in offering me alternative options to fit my itinerary. Our guide Matt was friendly and knowledgeable providing lots of information on the history of the area and on Kunanyi itself as well as the native flowers and birds. We saw lots of spring flowers in addition to an echidna and the scenery was stunning. The catering for the hike was amazing, freshly ground and brewed coffee, a delicious burger for lunch and lots of snacks along the way to keep our energy levels up. The hike was challenging and extremely rewarding once we arrived at the summit. The views over Hobart were awesome. Will definitely be back to do another hike next time I’m in Hobart. Thank you Matt and Andy.Written 29 November 2020

Had a walk from The Chalet to The Springs. Highly recommended. Nice, energetic, knowledgeable and experienced guide Andy, who basically took care of everything, from pre-walk preparation, touring along the walk and post-walk tea! A must-join tour if you would like to have a deeper taste of (but not too challenging) Mt Wellington in Hobart!

Andy brings a wealth of experience to the “Walk in footsteps of Darwin”.
My wife and I shared the experience with a friend from Sydney and we all had a great time being shown some highlights of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
The waterfall/octopus tree were amazing and the walks in the rainforest peaceful and relaxing.
It’s an easy walk and should be experienced instead of just driving to the summit
Our thanks go to Andy for a wonderful experience

I'm not much of a hiker but wanted to get out in nature a little while I was in Hobart. I wasn't confident enough to trek in a strange place on my own, so this was a great and accessible way to do that. This walk included both spectacular views and a close-up appreciation of the landscape, and it was just the right length for me. If you're there on a Saturday, it's a perfect pairing with a morning at the Salamanca Market, since you can just pop right over to the pier to catch the bus.
My guide Andy was well-informed and passionate about the local environment, as well as extremely respectful of the Indigenous history of the area. Depending on the time of year, he may even have you taste a nibble of some of the local plants! Note that this tour also supports a small business that donates a portion of its profits back to local conservation efforts.
I will say that although the gradient of the hike is not difficult and the trail is well maintained, it's paved in a natural style with bumpy pavestones and has some narrow ditches you need to step over. It's technically an easy hike but I wouldn't recommend it for someone who struggles with balance or stability.
Also, don't fret if you show up to the pier on your scheduled day/time and the guide isn't there to meet you. Just talk to the driver on the kunanyi/Mt. Wellington bus - they will know to expect you and will connect you with the guide on the mountain.
