About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Emilu19470 contributionsGreat experienceThe tour was well organised with an experienced tour guide/coach driver. The history behind Port Arthur is incredible and inspite pff the long walks, found it so informative and picturesque.Written 30 November 2024
- jannP3457EF0 contributionsPort Arthur and surrounds day tripInteresting, relaxed fun filled day, the scenery was fantastic, history amazing, great way to spend the day, the driver was excellent and the bus was exceptionally clean and comfortableWritten 27 November 2024
- Danielle S0 contributionsUnder-delivered /mis-sold on what was advertised and our guide needed a mute buttonIt galls me to leave a negative review and I toyed with the idea of not leaving one at all, but we came away from our tour quite upset and couldn’t wait to escape from the tour bus, so I decided that feedback would be cathartic at least, whether the tour company decide to act on it or not. The tour advertised the option of hotel pick up. Our tickets clearly stated hotel pick up and yet I received a phone call from a lady at Greyline asking where we were and why we weren’t at the Travel Information Centre for pick up. We explained that no one had told us otherwise and that we would rush there immediately. We did so and no bus was waiting so I called and was told by a man at Greyline they’d come back for us. Crossly I asked why no hotel pick up and was told they’d messaged my mobile (they hadn’t) and it was on the app (I’m doing a single tour with them and had a printed ticket so didn’t feel the need for an app). Ten minutes passed and I called again to be told by the lady I’d spoken to earlier that the driver/tour guide would be there shortly. The driver, Hugo, arrived and feeling very stressed, we got on the bus and mentioned that there had been an error with our pick up location. Receiving no apology, we made our way to our seats. Hugo then turned on the mic and talked….. and talked and talked and talked and talked. The verbiage was so incessant, he barely drew breath. Whilst I fully appreciate that a tour guide is expected to impart information and knowledge, he spoke so much that it was hard to disseminate the important information from his random musings. We also had zero silence to absorb the information or even talk to each other as he was constantly talking. Bizarrely, despite the tour being advertised as a “Port Arthur Full-day Guided Tour”, the key time we expected to be led by a tour guide was when we were actually at Port Arthur, which is when we were left on our own! I tried without success, to download the audio tour, and we ended up reading from the booklet you get with your entry ticket, and the brief information on boards in front of various buildings and ruins. The various photo stops were nice and the Remarkable Cave and Tasman Arch were beautiful, but the Chocolate Foundry stop on the way home was completely unnecessary and although the tour advertised that “from the gift shop you can watch these delightful products being hand-made”, we just saw an empty area behind glass where surfaces were spotless and nothing was being crafted before our very eyes. Honest advertising would have offered a chance to walk into a shop and purchase chocolate or ice cream which you had to hoover up at lightning speed as no food was allowed on the tour bus. What left a nasty taste in my mouth was the woman at the door of the shop refusing to give a chocolate sample to a person they didn’t believe was on our tour bus, and Hugo had to verify that he was with us. I didn’t pay for a day trip to include a kickback for Greyline on getting customers through a chocolate shop door! The piece de resistance was having my ears verbally chewed by Hugo whilst he talked on the tour bus mic all the way back to Hobart. All. The. Way…. ALL THE WAY! I wanted to find somewhere to hide, or to gouge out my ear drums. The man has no pause button and I don’t care that he was a chef or used to drive a bus in Sydney or hates lavender and think it smells and tastes of toilets. What I’d like is some space to reflect on what should have been a wonderful day with fun and knowledge given and received. There is no escape on the tour bus and - over the din of Hugo’s ramblings - another tourist remarked that he’d rather take ten lashes of the Cat O’Nine Tails than tolerate any more talking! My head genuinely hurt when we reached our drop off point and I felt cheated of what I had been led to expect from the day. Other tours and guides so far on our trip have been phenomenal, so maybe the bar was set high, but they more than delivered on what was advertised and I had naturally expected the same from Greyline. Greyline - we’re leaving Tasmania today and don’t have any more trips booked with you, so it makes no difference to me whether you take feedback on board or not. However if you do, then firstly please update your tour advert to be more truthful, and secondly get your tour guide to understand that there is such a thing as comfortable silence and that space is needed to take in real information and absorb it, as well as to reflect on it.Written 25 November 2024
- Freedom157975648240 contributionsGreat day outWe done 2 tours with Grays Port Arthur and Hobart, both Allan and Colin were great operators both very knowledgeable and the buses clean, nothing was a problem on either tour. Highly recommendWritten 22 November 2024
- 35805Susan0 contributionsA bit disappointed with sanctuary and Richmond. The sanctuary was rather depressing-great that they have a place for injured animals. We saw the echidna and devils because they fed them. Richmond was a cute town if you like touristy Christmas shops. We were by to go to port Arthur-I wish we had. Bus was on time clean comfy.Written 19 November 2024
- John S0 contributionsPort Arthur Tour - Nov 24We had a very enjoyable and informative tour to Port Arthur. Our guide and driver was Colin. The bus was comfortable and clean. He was great fun and provided information about places on the way. We had a great time and we would recommend the tour.Written 19 November 2024
- Cruiser383428339480 contributionsPort Arthur full day tourFantastic trip to Port Arthur with Gray Line. Our bus driver Colin kept us entertained and informed on local history the entire trip. Well done. Most definitely recommend this tour.Written 17 November 2024
- Gulida0 contributionsPoor weatherThe fog had set in and visibility was extremely poor, the driver told us we only had 10 minutes, due to the fog, we stopped halfway down to take photos and we were on a time limit to drop off passengers for there onward booking at Mona museumWritten 17 November 2024

- Getaway441292572460 contributionsUnforgettable tour of Richmond and Bonorong Wildlife SanctuaryWe were lucky enough to do the Richmond and Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary morning tour. Our guide and our driver, Roy and Barry, were excellent. Their knowledge and delivery were exceptional; always informative, interesting and relevant. They were extremely helpful with the wheelchair my friend used and nothing was too much trouble. They made our tour the high point of our holiday. Thank you very much, Roy and Barry, for making our trip to Hobart outstanding. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone!Written 13 November 2024
- 165neyah0 contributionsNice tour, freezing busThe driver/tour guide was very informative. The tour and visited place were nice. Minuses: - bus was freezing. Those who were sitting next to the window have very cold air conditioning blowing down. I told the driver, then he asked other people, they said they were cold as well. He turned it off, but on a way back it was turned on again. I don’t think air conditioning works where the driver is, he was in t-shirt and we had had jackets on and it was still cold. -driver/tour guide had very thick accent, so it was hard to understand what he was saying for non native speakers. He was very informative and knowledgeable.Written 13 November 2024
- dani_qui0 contributionsFine tour, poor taste commentaryWanting to provide some feedback regarding the commentary on todays tour from Hobart to Port Arthur. I don’t know if he was just trying to sound clever or what but, frankly, I was disgusted. It began with, effectively, a joke about rape… when referring to female convicts taken to Cascades he implied wryly that he didn’t know how they got pregnant in a women’s only jail - followed by a giggle which was unfortunately echoed by a few passengers. Obviously, many would have been raped by their male jailers. His take home message from Port Arthur was that “you can’t reform prisoners. Even today” Some things are best kept to yourself mate…Written 12 November 2024
- Raymond R0 contributionsWonderful part of Tassie made so much better by the driver, Carmel.Friendly and Very Engaging Driver, who ran a wonderful commentary during the journey and was helpful in every respect at all the stops.Written 11 November 2024

The lady at the pier counter , where you check in for the tour was very unfriendly, I would say even rude, unforgivable in the tour industry, so got off to a very bad start. She should be sacked.

Thank you for your review. Despite your comments being less than favourable we certainly appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We are very disappointed to hear of your experience and we can assure you we will address the situation with the relevant parties. We wholeheartedly agree that an exceptionally high level of customer service is the absolute minimum requirement for our industry and anything less than that is unacceptable.

Personally I found the driver/guide quite rude and pushy. I didn't think it was worth the money - you don't really get anything except a drive up the mountain and back.

Thank you for your review. We are very disappointed to hear that our tour didn't meet your expectations. This tour includes, hotel pick up (selected hotels) coach touring with live commentary to the summit of Mt Wellington, 30 minutes at the Observatory, short walks and stops along the way, including a stop at The Springs and the Exhibition Garden circuit, a visit and walk through Cascade Gardens on our decent before returning to the Hobart Waterfront. Then we jump on board a MONA ferry and cruise to MONA where you will enjoy free-time to explore this world class museum before cruising back to Hobart docks. Once again, we are sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your time spent with us. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will follow up with our team.

It is the most amazing 360 degree views. We were very lucky because the morning started off cloudy but by the time we arrived at the top it had all cleared and Hobart was spread out below us, it was just an amazing, you can't beat the view from that height.

I had Mark for the second time in three days as my guide. Going from a coach to a minibus yet he still remembered me which was delightful.
Pickup was a bit late due to bridge issues completely beyond everyone’s control. Didn’t matter in the end though, everything was on time.
The weather in the morning wasn’t super great so we did a reverse tour where we got a city tour before heading up the mountain as the clouds cleared. Mark was full of knowledge about the area and the mountain. The views are stunning even if you can’t avoid all the clouds, Mother Nature will dictate what you can see.
The tickets for the MONA are for standard seating. You get there via ferry ride and you can change the departure time if you want to either earlier or later depending on how long you want to stay.

The Mount Wellington trip was a delight and our driver Phil tour host made it worthwhile. We were also fortunate that it was a nice day with views but still cold and windy! Being local his knowledge was excellent and made it very interesting. It was the highlight of the day trip.
Mona was also interesting but definately not for everybody! It still is amazing and full credit to the owner for establishing it in Hobart!!
