    Easy 2.5 hour excursion
Highly recommend this trip. Bus was on time with easy pick up from Brooke St Pier. Tony was a fantastic driver and guide, adding relevant information along our drive. There were two photo stops in the way up to the top of Mt Wellington, but nothing else because we were the last bus of the day. Beautiful views! Highly recommend.

    Must do in Hobart
Loved this tour it wasn't too long and the bus is amazing I didn't feel scared at all on the winding road. Our driver was funny and knowledgeable. He would always stop if he thought this was going to be our best view due to the cloud cover at the lookout. I think we did well going on the later tour due to the weather. Really enjoyed the tour and will highly recommend it to others. As we got there by cruise ship he made sure we would get back in time for all aboard time. 5 stars.

    Wonderful time
This tour was great. I took this tour on Nov 1 at 10am. The reason I am putting the date and the time is I want to say I had a great guide. He was very informative. Very professional. At the top of the mountain we had about 30 minutes free time. This was enough time to walk around and take pictures. My suggestion is get on at the first stop this way you can get a good seat.

Would do it again in a heartbeat!
My kids and I had the most amazing time! My son has a physical disability and requires his stroller for mobility, this often leads to judgement or a willingness to assist but they were so accommodating from booking to arriving on the day and during our journey. Such a smooth ride with colourful commentary that made you want to listen in and plenty of time spent at each spot. Can’t wait to visit Tassie and do the Mt Wellington and Doubke Decker tours again!

Great option to get to the top
We had a group of 8 who took the bus to the top of Mt Wellington to hike back down. The ride up was fantastic - our driver was great fun and very informative and we got to see an amazing part of the world. I highly recommend the trip.

    Explorer bus-great service.
Almost didn’t book this trip. So glad we did. An absolute ‘must do’ in Hobart. We took advantage of the hop on hop off option to do a little walking on the mountain. Such an efficient friendly service. Jon our driver was friendly, informative, good fun and so helpful. We took the bus to the pinnacle where we could see nothing at first but the clouds continually swirled around revealing partial views. We then took the bus back down and got off at The Springs where we had delicious pies and coffee at the cafe before our 1.8km descent through the bush to Fern Tree Park where a couple of beers at the friendly pub kept us going whilst we waited for the bus to return us to Hobart. Make sure you wear walking shoes and have warm sensible clothing as the weather changes very suddenly. I was wearing hat, scarf and gloves at the pinnacle and then had no need of them or my coat at Fern Tree Park. Worth the bus ride up and down the mountain even if you are not feeling energetic to walk.

The trip from start to finish was amazing. Tony is a great guide who was very entertaining and knowledgeable. He kept us engaged and was very supportive. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to go to Mount Wellington and wants a good history lesson about Hobart too. The view was phenomenal!!!

Great way to travel to summit of Mt Wellington!
Tony was a great driver and guide on this bus tour up to the summit of Mt Wellington. Humorous, and well versed in interesting facts about Hobart, it’s history and surrounds. Didn’t use the hop-on-hop-off bus element of the tour, as had a change of plans.

We had a great time taking the bus to Mt Wellington. Our bus driver Christian was very friendly and enthusiastic. He gave us some helpful advice on which walks to do. His commentary as we drove around was really enjoyable. It was a really clear day so we had perfect views looking down onto the city, would definitely recommend a proper warm jacket and gloves as it was -5 degrees at the top and with the wind it was very cold!!

Dear Liana R, thank you so much for your review and for sharing your photos too. It looks like you had a spectacular day on the mountain with clear views, beautiful cloud formations and a bit of snow too! Thank you for your kind words for your driver and guide Christian. I’m sure it would have been so helpful to have some expert bushwalking advice from Christian. Great tips regarding extra warm clothing too! Thanks again and I hope you had a wonderful holiday in Hobart. Louise V, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus.

We were going to self drive up, but due to the road closure we took this bus, and we are so glad we did. Great safe trip up with an informative driver pointing out history and notable points of interest.
The road is very twisty, and is a tight squeeze for two larger vehicles.
We are driving all over Tasmania, and this is one trip I was happy paying someone else to do and remove the stress and let us relax for the morning.

Dear John D, thank you so much for your review and for sharing some of your photos. We’re glad you decided to take the bus too. It sure is a more enjoyable experience to sit back and relax while taking in the views, rather than focusing on the road ahead. Our drivers do a brilliant job at navigating the road conditions on the mountain. It’s wonderful to hear that you had a relaxing time exploring kunanyi/Mt Wellington with us. Thanks again, I hope you had a lovely stay in Hobart. Louise V, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus.

Our taxi driver from the airport tried to persuade us that it is better to go up Mt Wellington in a taxi. Glad we ignored him.
Excellent 2 hr tour with Mt Wellington kunanyi Explorer Bus in the entertaining and informative hands of driver Christian. Great to be in the company of someone so obviously enjoying his job.
Stunning views across Southern Tassie.
We paid the concession price of $30 (£15 ish) each which was great value.
Highly recommended.

This is a great tour and good value. You get a hop-on-hop-off service from Hobart CBD to Mount Wellington and the bus stops is several places on the mountain which means you have options: take the bus to the top and back down again … or (as we did) take the bus to the top and walk part way down to pick up the bus … or take the bus to base of the mountain and walk part way up … etc. The buses go every 90 minutes in summer and the trip is about an hour each way.

A couple of things that were not pointed out to us that may be useful:

(1) It is advisable to book. The lady on the information desk in Brooke Street Pier told us bookings were not necessary. However, when we attempted to board the bus at 9:20 the next morning, David the driver was initially rather officious and advised us that he wasn’t sure if he could squeeze us on (even though there were 10 empty seats) … before very graciously allowing us to stay.

(2) The tavern at Fern Tree Park is a very convenient watering hole and a great place to pick up the bus for the return trip. However, it does not open every day even in summer. We passed by on Monday and it was closed. Surprisingly, the driver did not seem to know this.

Dear Chris, thank you so much for your review and feedback. I’m pleased to hear that you had a great trip to kunanyi/Mt Wellington and were able to use the bus to hop-on and hop-off and explore some of the bushwalking tracks on the mountain too. There’s certainly lots of different walking options for all ages and abilities. In regard to booking, it is normally ok to book on the day. However, a pre-booking offers peace of mind that a seat/s will be available at the desired time. I’m glad that David was able to fit you on in any case. Please be assured that all kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus staff have been reminded that Fern Tree Tavern is closed on Mondays. I have also checked that this information is clearly mentioned on our website too. Fern Tree Tavern is certainly a popular spot to rest and recharge after an adventure on the mountain and we’d never intentionally recommend our passengers to visit when it is closed. I’m sorry that you missed out this time. Thanks again for your review and recommendations, I hope you’ve had a lovely holiday in Hobart. Louise V, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus.

My favourite part of the tour was of course reaching the summit of Mt. Wellington. Aside from that, the trip was worth it! Our driver Christian is very knowledgeable, nice, funny, friendly and very accommodating. There were 2 old ladies in our trip and he was very supportive and assisted the old ladies very well. Also, can I also add that he was a very good driver. The road going to the mountain was narrow and considering we're riding a bus, he made it very effortless and safe. I would definitely recommend the Red Decker Mt . Wellington Tour to my friends.

This activity was well worth it and the highlight of our trip to Tasmania. Our coach driver was informative and really invested in making it a great experience for his passengers. You could tell he was passionate about Mt Wellington and he stopped the bus on the ascent to provide local information and the best photo opportunities. When we reached the pinnacle, it was covered in cloud so there were no views. That was fine with me. I loved the idea that I was literally standing in a cloud and enjoyed the cold, the wind and the low visibility. I would highly recommend this tour regardless of the weather as, either way, you will get a truely unique experience.

If you don't have a car, then this is a great option to view the city from Mt Wellington. The weather was too heavy the day we went so no view, but it snowed and it was December so we loved it. Driver was very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend.

Hello Keeks79, Thank you for choosing to travel with the kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer bus on your visit to Hobart. The weather is variable on the mountain not only from day to day but minute to minute. Yes it does sometimes snow in our summer months in Tasmania at the summit! Yes we also agree it is an amazing experience when this happens! These unexpected experiences are some of the reasons why we believe the mountain is so special. The mountain landscape is ever changing in what ever the weather presents on the day. We are very pleased that you enjoyed the tour despite the cloud cover at the time of your tour. If there is cloud cover and there are seats available on any of our other departures for the day or on subsequent days we do offer a complimentary return trip back up the summit. We hope that you visit Hobart again soon! Many thanks. Kind regards, Fiona G Tour Manager kunanyi/ Mt Wellington Explorer Bus

The view from the summit. Absolutely stunning views of Hobart, the channel and west. The enclosed viewing platform was a welcome escape from the very cold wind which occurs at that height. The tour guide, Christian, was enthusiastic about the beauty of Mt Wellington, was informative and obviously enjoyed his job. I highly recommend the experience.

Well it wasn’t a great day to explore Mt Wellington. It was cold, windy & foggy. Our driver Tony did well with both his driving up to the summit, sometimes just missing the rocks on the side by millimetres, & his interesting commentary, which was interspersed with his ‘dad’ jokes. Unfortunately the summit was completely covered in fog with visibility limited to about a metre. We had planned to walk back part way but it was too dangerous we thought. So at least we had an enjoyable coach trip.

Dear Julant55, thank you for your review and photos too. I’m happy to hear that you had a fabulous journey to kunanyi/Mt Wellington with Tony as your driver and guide, despite the unfavourable weather conditions on the day. The weather is part of the allure of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, as no 2 trips will ever be the same! It’s unfortunate that you didn’t get to experience the spectacular panoramic views that everyone raves about. Even more reason to visit again on your next trip to Hobart. Thanks again for your review and we hope you’ve had a lovely holiday in Hobart. Louise V, kunanyi/Mt Wellington Explorer Bus.

Fantastic experience. We went with two kids aged 5 and 8. We all had a great time, battling the blustering winds on the peak of the mountain and frollicking in the remnants of snow a little further down. The driver was excellent and kept us entertained, providing interesting information about Hobart and sights we were passing
