- helenbC5869SP0 contributionsA memorable and spectacular experience.A truly memorable experience. We had a beautifully smooth flight, and our pilot and co-pilot were knowledgeable, professional and polite, and provided a lot of interesting information. Our boat ride took us along beautiful waterways, past a sea-eagle nest and interesting geological formations. Mid-morning tea and lunch were both delicious and we had these on two different and lovely beaches. The flight back over the spectacular Arthur Range and seeing Federation Peak was the highlight for me.Written 27 November 2024
- 26gordont0 contributionsGreat day!Beautiful trip and very well run. Flight was very scenic and views of the bay were great. Guide was helpful and very knowledgeable. A very enjoyable dayWritten 25 November 2024
- 257marku0 contributionsBeware cancellationsBeware cancelations! The wilderness tour was going to be the highlight of our Australian trip we have been planning for 6 months . We received a message the night before the tour- cancelling due to high winds. Since we are only here for 2 days and our schedule is fully booked, rescheduling is not possible. The desk clerk at our hotel said his mother tried to take the tour and ran into multiple cancellations. This is likely a nice tour if you are a local resident, but a huge gamble if you have limited time. We are waiting for a refund for the tour cost, tour company commission, and travel agent commission. If you choose this tour, I hope you have a better experience. I would NOT sign up again now that I know how frequently the tour is cancelled.Written 2 November 2024
- KerylC30 contributionsIdyllic Maria IslandAfter weather cancelled our Southwest Experience twice and with our departure from Tasmania imminent, Par Avion offered us the option of a refund or a day on Maria Island. As it was a blue sky, low wind day in the east we decided to make the most of it and soon Michael our pilot, Dave our guide and the two of us were in the air, viewing from above where we had driven from Coles Bay the day prior, over the Freycinet Peninsula and magnificent Wineglass Bay then looping around to land on Maria Island. A very inviting cheese platter with tea, coffee (or wine!) for morning tea soon followed, then the two of us took a relaxed walk to the former settlement, stopping to photograph forester kangaroos, wombats and pademelons in the bush adjoining the track along the way. After we walked a leisurely circuit investigating the restored convict buildings we rejoined Michael and Dave to feast on a gourmet picnic lunch and wine on the beautiful fine white sand beach below. Following this and another lovely scenic walk back to the aircraft, it was mid afternoon and sadly time to leave. Returning to Cambridge airport flying over yet more beautiful scenery, before we knew it we were gently landing and our fabulous day was over. Michael’s expert piloting and Dave’s vast knowledge and experience of yachting, kayaking and hiking (indeed all things outdoors!), along with the fun banter between us all, made this truly a day we will never forget. Thanks Par Avion.Written 29 October 2024
- kjp610 contributionsThe Best Day in TasmaniaThe best day ever!! We were originally booked to do the Gordon River tour but minimum numbers were not met so we switched to the South West Wilderness tour. We are so happy that happened as this tour was such an amazing experience. We had perfect weather, the perfect pilot and perfect guide inTheo. The area is so special and it was amazing to visit, eat our lunch (delicious) on Balmoral Beach. Our boat journey took us all the way to Port Davey and we learned about the history of the whole area. Our flights were down the coast and back over the mountains, such an amazing contrast. We would love to visit Tasmania again and do another trip, well worth the cost, you will love every minute of your day.Written 17 October 2024
- Tom_and_Pam_G0 contributionsAn unforgettable experience in one of the most wonderful places on the planet!Par Avion have put together a day tour that will leave a lifelong memory. Two light aircraft take the luckiest 10 people imaginable south via the coast to Melaleuca for a day exploring the natural wetland environs of Bathurst Habour - by boat and bush track. Guided and, in our case, piloted by Michael, we learned the amazing stories of the stoic handful of Europeans who chose this pristine wilderness as their home decades before. We also learned of the First Nation's custodians that successfully managed this beautiful place for thousands of years before that. We were treated to a hearty lunch accompanied by some great Tassie wine. The inlets, passages and narrows that provide untouched natural vegetation to (and into) the waterways provide a labyrinth of sheltered inlets from which the day's itinerary was decided as the weather revealed its own fickle contribution. The return flight, this time further west over the coast and then north over Port Davey, the spectacular Arthur Ranges and over Hobart and the River Derwent was the perfect ending to an amazing day. Thank you Par Avion for a brilliant day.Written 11 October 2024
- V1088VEkarend0 contributionsAmazing experience to see South West Tasmania. Exceptional guides who shared lots of information.Outstanding tour. Loved the two plane flights and saw so much amazing scenery and learnt a lot from the informative commentary. Tasty lunch! Fantastic to be able to see the South West Wilderness from a boat and walk through a part of the National park.Written 9 October 2024
- 964MC0 contributionsAwesome experience not to be missedFrom booking the ticket through to saying farewell. The ground and air crew were engaging and helpful. The provision of a heated jacket was ideal for the boat ride. The entire day went like clock work, and there was no rushing.Written 16 September 2024
- robs0208670 contributionsOne of the great Australian experiences! We were fortunate to have only my wife and I on this tour accompanied by our 2 expert pilots, Caleb and Zeydan. Everything went smoothly from the team that checks you in through to the pre flight safety briefing and getting underway. Once we had taken off the experience just got better and I am so grateful we decided to spoil ourselves with what has to be one of the great Tasmanian travel experiences.Written 5 August 2024
- suzannenF1814CB0 contributionsThis is one Tasmanian tour you should not miss! Our day trip to the Southwest Wilderness was perfect from beginning to end. Gavin, our pilot, tour guide and captain did everything possible to make our day something special. His knowledge of the local landmarks and Tasmanian history was excellent and kept us engaged throughout the trip. We were also blessed with perfect weather to showcase this beautiful part of our world. We highly recommend this trip to all, it is amazing.Written 27 May 2024

- S5503KSchristiner0 contributionsWe flew over a beautiful landscape with a commentary all the way then boarded a boat to have the day on Bathurst HarbourWe had a day trip to Bathurst harbour this time but went on the 3 day camping tour as well last year. I can't speak highly enough about travelling and touring with par Avion. Their service, commentary and catering was exceptional.Written 2 May 2024
- joymY5470WG0 contributionsA magical tour by light plane and boatOur pilots (Michael flying in, Theo flying out) were outstanding - professional, friendly and knowledgeable. They were also excellent pilots(!) which was reassuring when flying into such a remote and mountainous region in a tiny plane. Theo was our guide for the boat tour and honestly he (and the sunny day) made our whole day perfect. It began with morning tea in the museum, then the trip by boat out to Bathurst Harbour. The day was exceptionally calm and sunny (a rarity in these parts), so Theo was able to stop the boat in the midst of the harbour so we could absorb the silence and scenery. I'd have to say that moment was a lifelong dream, and it didn't disappoint. It was a perfect, still morning with luminous clouds and glittering reflections of the mountains all around. Magical! We were also very lucky to be able to venture as far as Port Davey. On the way back we stopped for a delicious lunch and wine on 'Balmoral Beach' in the warm sunshine, then had a look at a sea eagle's nest and Win and Clyde's old home on the riverbank before heading back to the airstrip. Theo flew back to Hobart over the mountains so that we could see the same country from the air, pointing out walking trails and landmarks, and talking about the history of this rare and precious wilderness area. Full marks to Par Avion office staff too - we were staying at Melaleuca for a few days before the tour, and were getting a big anxious about whether the tour would even happen (weather!) and even if we could get out before our food ran out! All in all, this trip was one of the best experiences of my life!Written 20 April 2024
- MelanieJ29010 contributionsA fantastic day outWhat a fantastic tour and such a privilege to be able to fly into one of the most remote parts of SW Tasmania. Our group travelled in the 10 and 6 seater planes. I got the back seat of the 6 seater which was brilliant in terms of the views. Our pilots were fantastic with great commentary and talked us through when to expect turbulence, particularly on the way home as we experienced some pretty strong winds and bumps flying over the mountains. The boat tour with Meg was fantastic and her knowledge of the area made the trip even more special. I would highly recommend this tour. If you are prone to a bit of motion sickness on planes, come prepared as it can be quite bumpy around this part of Tasmania. I don’t get air sick but my sneaky glass of red wine at lunchtime had other ideas on the return trip! However, it was worth it for the spectacular views.Written 23 March 2024
- markhovenden680 contributionsWilderness experience with luxury and heartEverything was simply marvelous. The flights were spectacular, the scenery amazing, the guides fun, attentive, informative and lovely and the program tailored to suit our group excellently. The accommodation was extremely comfortable and the food and drinks excellent. We have specific dietary requirements and these were accommodated without any fuss and without making us feel like we were being difficult. We were provided with excellent options at every meal including snacks while we were out seeing the sights. At the camp, everything was thought through down to the smallest detail - lanterns and headlamps provided in our hut/tent, the bed was lovely and comfortable. The camp has been cleverly designed to be low impact and was nestled into the forest to give you the feeling of truly being in the wilderness. Birds flying around immediately outside your tent! Quite a bit of our time during the day was spent in the boat travelling to beautiful, secluded beaches on Bathurst Harbour, visiting indigenous sites and historical sites, going on short to medium-length hikes. Having two guides at all times, the group could break into those keener on slightly more strenuous hikes and those more content to potter... We were also lucky enough to have great wildlife experiences including seeing dozens of the endangered Orange-Bellied Parrot, as well as potoroos, wedge-tailed eagles and a white-bellied sea eagle nest complete with fledglings. The guides themselves were amazing, very, very knowledgeable and fonts of stories of all kinds, covering the geology, history and ecology of this amazing, wonderful region. The boat trip out to Port Davey proper was a true highlight with dozens of islands, beaches, cliffs, blowholes and arches, all in a simply spectacular coastline. All done in comfort and safety with an engaging commentary and the guides being flexible and responsive to our individual requests. We highly recommend this trip of a lifetime.Written 23 March 2024

We had a wonderful flight with our pilote David. He was really kind, paying attention to our well being, explaining the history and specificities of the area, Freycinet National Park and Maria Island. The picnic was delicious... should have stay a little bit longer on Maria Island would have been a must. The scenic flight was awesome and we really recommend this fabulous experience!

This was a great experience, one that I enjoyed as a local but I think that tourists in particular would love. The views from the plane were excellent regardless of where you were seated. It was a bit of an overcast day but we were flying below the clouds so the views were uninterrupted. The lunch that was provided for us upon landing at Maria Island catered to dietary requirements and the Tasmanian wine was a nice touch. We saw a wombat and geese after our pilot pointed us in the right direction to find them. My only criticism was that the time at Maria Island felt a bit rushed.

Absolutely loved it! Booked this tour for myself and Husband to do on my birthday, and it was the best birthday! We were the only ones to book, so we basically had a private tour, with an amazing pilot and incredible views. Our pilot was friendly and knowledgeable, he shared some great stories and made sure we had a great time. We saw seals from the sky, and a wombat on the island. Definitely recommend it!

I booked this tour as a surprise for my husband, who really wanted to see Wineglass Bay. Our pilot James was awesome- super friendly and knowledgeable, and really looked after both of us. The views over the Tasmanian East coast were amazing, and I'm so glad we got to appreciate it from the air, as we would have missed seeing so much traveling by road. Our seafood lunch on Maria Island was lovely, and we got to see plenty of kangaroos, cape barren geese, and wombats. We were even fortunate enough to get up close to a wombat and got to have a gentle pat! We were only in Tassie for 3 days, and this trip allowed us to see so much and have an unforgettable experience all in a few hours time!

I took a flight to Maria Island and loved it! There were just the three of us - me, my boyf and our pilot, Alex. Alex was great- knowledgeable, personable and skilled. The scenery was spectacular the whole way. Lunch and wine were delicious. It felt very decadent to do this trip as a local. Now I think I will have to go camping on Maria!
