- jameslong202300Hobart SightseeingPre-purchased tickets for myself and my Wife before leaving Sydney which was straightforward. Arrived in Hobart off a Princess cruise and the Red Decker pick up point was an easy 10-minute walk from the ship with directions from friendly Red Decker staff at Constitution Dock. The bus was clean, the driver and staff were very friendly. The trip around Hobart was a perfect introduction to the City and I would recommend it to any visitor at any time.
- bneate202300Red Decker Bus Hop on Off HobartGreat service took us to many places with excellent commentary and value for money. I would recommended it anyone visiting Hobart.
- jandon4600Hobart hop on hop offPurchased tickets on line, went off Cruise ship and had easy directions to the pick up point. Very informative history of the area, we especially enjoyed the Botanical Gardens.
- christophergB3047EX00A great day outWent on the Richmond tour. JASON was the excellent driver for the trip, full g information, history and anecdotes. Richmond was so enjoyable with so much to see and do, as was the Puddleduck winery. A different way to spend the day and well worth it.
- gtwyford00Tour on top excited 5yo grand-daughterMy wife & I came to share our g'kids' birthday celebrations. Our g'daughter had always wanted to do the bus tour. We'd done it 6 years ago with my late mil, who'd also enjoyed it. The weather was kind to us, the drivers were great and we saw parts of Hobart we'd not seen since our last Tour. It's a lovely little city with much intact heritage on display, provoking lots of 5yo questions and joy. Hop on - hop off worked very well too.
- Sharon B00Informative driversWe did the Hop on and Off in Hobart and the bus to Mt Wellington and would thoroughly recommend both. We had a great time, learnt alot about Hobart and the freezing visit to Mt Wellington was amazing.
- purserpeter202300Wentworth Point Probus ClubThe driver was excellent , very helpful with information helping with members that required help and assistance with details on walking and distances.
- ajodonnell5900AwesomeThe service was fantastic. All the drivers were professional, with a, helpful and happy demeanour. This is reflected in having a good boss, which was commented, by one of the drivers. The combo package is good value.
- Trac3y202300LOVED IT🥰The experience was great, lots of interesting historical facts that were enjoyed by myself and family. We did the full tour without getting off the bus. We would do it again but get off at various stops and further explore
- rachelbutler040900Great experienceGreat way to see Hobart. If you’re only in Hobart for a short time the red decker gives you a great snap shot of Hobart. It was an overcast day and when it started to rain they gave us ponchos as we were on the open roof top. A great way to get around to different sites, we caught it from the information centre up to Cascades Brewery.
- 762murrayf00DelightfulWe were fortunate to have Jon, usually in the back office, but today driving and commentating. A special trip up the mountain with a clarity of description shared in a friendly manner. The weather made it special- sleet and hail came down on cue and created quite a blast- literally. Well worth the investment of $ and time.
- 602Traveller00Longer than advertisedWe purchased the combined Red Decker & Mt Wellington bus. We did the Mt Wellington bus first which was advertised as 90 mins return. The driver took his time going up the mountain, chatting to customers and acting like we had all day so the 90 mins turned into 2+ hours. The 11am Mt Wellington bus didn't return til nearly 2pm. For cruise passengers who are on a time limit and want to do the red bus too, this meant we had to cut our time short on the red decker before returning to the ship.
- aussieis00Informative Tour!the experience was amazing. Got to visit historical sites added with the narration. You get to know more about the places and some trivias. Would definitely recommend to tourists!
- markcO6169GG00Great service giving an overview of Hobart and history to get you started. Love the hop on hop off option. The recorded commentary was great but it the extra commentary from driver Paul escalated the service from great to excellent. I’d recommend it in your furst day in Hobart as it helped us decide what else to do while we were there.
- jessicarg198800Convenient insightsA convenient and cost-effective introduction to Hobart - to learn more about tourist and historic hotspots, and orientate yourself with the city without stress or hassle. A great starting point for your visit. I highly recommend the Mt Wellington and Coal Valley add-ons.

The buses are quite new and very clean. There is an open observation deck on the upper level. The driver was amusing and gave additional commentary beyond the pre-recorded commentary.
The service only operates between the hours of 9:00am and 4:30pm, despite being touted as a 24 Hour Ticket. Be careful not to be left stranded and have to catch a taxi back to town. We had to forego a visit to the Botanical Gardens (which close at 5:00pm) due to the last return bus from the Gardens leaving at 4:15pm.
Also, it would have been much cheaper and much quicker for the two of us to catch a taxi from Hobart CBD to the Cascade brewery - 5 minutes and $13 to $16 each way, total, versus the $35 per person ($70 total) for the 40 minute bus ride with the “24 hour Red Decker”.
OK, so we don’t expect the bus to run 24 hours per day, but 9 to 4:30 is a bit mean for the $35 per person price of a ticket. You can use the ticket for 24 hours from the time of purchase, but that’s of little use if you are there for only one day, or if you start using it at 9:00am.

Dear Antechinus, thank you for your review and feedback from your recent experience with Red Decker. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed the tour from the top-deck with amusing commentary from your driver. I am sorry for any confusion regarding our 24 hour ticket option. It is most definitely a 24 hour ticket (valid for 24 hours from the time you first board), rather than a tour that operates 24 hours a day. Our timetable is clearly displayed within our brochure and can also be downloaded from our website. Our operating hours are 9.00am – 4.30pm on the summer timetable. This is comparable to other Australian hop-on hop-off bus services – with the exception of Sydney which is a much bigger city. We will however continue to assess the viability of adding additional departures to extend our service. You may also be surprised to know that our hop-on hop-off ticket price is cheaper than in other Australian cities. While a taxi ride may be a cheaper option to visit a specific attraction, I’m sure you'll agree that our hop-on hop-off sightseeing tour is more than simply a mode of transport to get from A to B. For many of our passengers, the 90 minute tour provides a helpful orientation to Hobart with entertaining and informative commentary and lots of helpful insights into the many things to see and do whilst visiting our beautiful city. Please be assured that your feedback is greatly appreciated and will assist us to improve our service for future passengers. Thanks again, I hope that you had a lovely holiday in Hobart. Louise V, Red Decker Company.

It was a wet dismal day in Hobart (the day before I got sunburned 🤷🏼♀️), I thought this would be a good introduction to Hobart and paid the $40 each so we could orient ourselves to the city. ( We often do this in a new city) We boarded the bus and we told to take a poncho and go up stairs as there were no undercover seats. We sat in the rain, unable to hear much of the commentary as the wind and road noise drowned it out. We had not been offered/told that to do the cascade brewery tour we needed to pre book when we purchased our tickets at Brooke Pier, the driver advised if we wished to do this we would need to book online (difficult to do when you are trying to keep your belongings dry under a poncho). We gave up as we were cold and wet and got off the bus when it was near our accommodation. This company should either canopy the top deck on wet days or not sell so many tickets. It would also be nice if when purchasing you ticket they advised of stops where you need to pre book, and offered to assist you with this ( customer service much?). Very disappointed with the experience and definitely not worth the cost.

Hello BethDid,
Thank you for the time you have taken to write your review. You may be surprised that Hobart is the second driest capital city second to Adelaide. We rarely have days where we do have rain. We are unable to guarantee the weather on any particular day. We do offer complimentary ponchos on rainy days.
We give complimentary guidebooks to all our customers with the details of the attractions and their individual opening hours & booking process. . We acknowledge that hop on hop off buses are not for everyone. An option of a fully guided organised trip with generally much greater costs may be a better option for some people.
As with all our tours we offer full tour refunds if you are not 100% happy with your tour experience. Please contact our office to organise this. If you would like to discuss your tour experience further please contact our office.
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Fiona G

Red Decker is a great way to get a feel of Hobart.
The service was very handy meaning a bus comes by every 30 minutes which is fantastic. Apparently, the buses usually only come by every hour unless a cruise ship is in port, then it’s every 30 minutes. So I guess we were lucky the Pacific Adventure was in port.
Pricing for a 24 hour ticket at $40 per adult is a little expensive, when the buses only run from 9AM to 4:30PM.
The bus drivers were very friendly & provided great commentary along the routes, and they kept their buses sparkling clean inside & out.

My wife and I caught the first tour of the day from the Tourist Information Centre. We chose to sit upstairs, at the front behind the windscreen. It was very chilly, about 11 degrees celsius. We wished we had worn thermal layers - didn’t expect it to be quite so cold in late November. The 90 minute loop was very interesting - an ideal way to get our bearings. On completion of the journey we had to disembark for 20 minutes of so whilst the bus was sanitised. We rejoined the bus (sitting downstairs this time!) to ride to the Wrest Point Casino, from where we walked to have a look at Sandy Bay. We didn’t rejoin the bus again as we had done what we set out to do.
The driver was very friendly and helpful. We felt the tour represented very respectable value, wityh a few dollars senior discount.

Best value & fantastic experience, our driver Tony on the first day was so helpful and funny & our driver on the second day went out of his way to get us closer to our motel because it was pelting down rain. We'll be back because a weekend isn't long enough & will be back on the bus again. Thanks so much to you all.

We arrived on a cruise ship. I had paid and booked a 10.30 city bus trip as I thought this would guarantee our family a seat. It is quite a walk to where the bus is (with a 3yr old). Lucky it didn’t rain. When we got to the bus there was no dedicated line for pre-paid tickets. I spoke to the people in charge and they made sure we got on. They did a great job considering but it was annoying that having pre-planned didn’t make any difference. If they know cruise ships are due then perhaps a little more organisation would help. Not sure why the buses can’t park near cruise terminal?
The tour was well worth the money and a great way to see Hobart. The bus driver was very friendly and commentary was great.
Thank you

Dear 928janc, thank you for taking the time to share your compliments, feedback and photos too. I’m pleased to hear that you and your family had a great day exploring Hobart with us. It sure is a popular option for cruise ship passengers with limited time in port. Pre-purchasing a ticket removes the hassle and time to buy a ticket on the day. We are always looking at ways to ease the pressure on cruise ship days, so your feedback here is greatly appreciated. Our tour starts from the Tasmanian Travel & Information Centre, a short 10 minute walk from the cruise terminal. I understand it would be much easier for cruise passengers if we were able to park outside the cruise terminal. However, there are conditions which prevent us from doing so. Thanks again and we wish you all the best for your remainder of your cruising holiday. Louise V, Red Decker Company.

These red bus tours are always a good way to get an overview of a city but this is a particularly good one. We had several drivers of the course of several day and all were professional and informative and always good for information and advice. The city route that we traveled took in all of the main attractions. Comfy seats and good commentary.

Probably ok if you just wanted to sit on and do the loop to get a feel of Hobart. The hourly schedule means that if you jump off and see something and spend over an hour you probably only have time to get on once more to get back. Cheaper to uber the sites further away but we just ended up walking anyway. The commentary was basic and our driver added odd jokes. He missed our first stop as the buzzer to get off didn't work (?) but you've got to be pretty quick to jump up and get off or you'll miss the stop entirely so sit near the front.
Not great value for money and wouldn't recommend with the current scheduling if you wanted to see a couple of sites.

hello Fiona F,
Thank you for the time you taken to write your review. We apologise if our tour did not meet your expectations on this occasion.
You may be surprised but our city loop is 26kms in length. The bonus of the 24hr or 48hr option is that instead of being charged per minute like other transport options it is a set time period for a set price. Our buses are designed and bus operators are trained specifically for tourism and sight seeing unlike some ride share options. We pride ourselves on employing Hobart locals so that they also become local guides who have an extensive local knowledge of our beautiful city eg know the best eating spots etc . Our timetable is comparable to and is in fact more frequent than other small cities in the world of similar size. Our state has lower visitation than other capital cities in Australia which is a great thing as our city isn't crowded. Our timetable is also designed and takes into consideration to be frequent (every hour, every half hour when a cruise ship is in port) and not too be too frequent (every 10mins) so that it doesn't interrupt/ impacts the local Hobart population on our route which I am sure you can appreciate as a Hobart resident.
We offer full tour refunds if people are not 100% happy with our tours. Please reach out to our office to organise this.
Have a great day. Thank you for your time.
Many thanks.
Kind regards,
Fiona G

How often do the buses run? I'm assuming there are several on a loop, so if we exit at a stop how long until the next bus comes past?
Also, is there a list of stops?
Is there toilet stops

HI, The trip lasts from memory from start to finish approx 45 minutes , there are a number of stops you can alight from e.g. cascade brewery, wrestpoint casino, botanical gardens and then pick up the next bus. We picked up the bus from the dock . there is a visitor centre near constitution dock and i think you can purchase from the driver . very well organised and the drivers are very helpful
