        Amazing experience!
While the weather didn't look promising, Mike, his boat and crew, were amazing - knowledgable and safe, keeping us on the lee side of the island to ensure the smoothest ride possible. I've been / worked on a multitude of boats, and no-one handles them like Mike! He snuck us half into a cavern for a look so close you could almost touch. Enough chat to learn something, enough quiet to enjoy the view and contemplate the geology and history. Maria Island is a lovely stroll, do as much or as little as you like and see some wombats. Really 5 star service for the price, wet-weather gear for those brave enough to sit up top, plentiful (eco friendly) lunch and drinks variety, and even Connoisseur ice-cream! Amazingly set up and run, plus the locality itself. Totally faultless, will be back during better weather sometime! Thanks Mike!

        Great day out
A great day out, the highlight being the sea caves and the close encounters with the seals. Just the right amount of time on Maria island to explore as well, we even had a swim. The crew were really knowledgeable and welcoming. We would thoroughly recommend this trip to anyone visiting the area.

Wow what a fantastic day. So many things to see. So many seals to view and the cruise into the sea caves was awesome. Then the walk in Maria Island to learn the history and see all the gorgeous wombats. Lunch and morning tea was delicious and GF options were supplied. The staff are amazing and cater to your every need. Highly recommend.

        Memorable Day on the Water
Our trip with East Coast Cruises was delightful. Michael and Rachel made it a memorable day. The boat was comfortable and clean. The commentary was educational, entertaining, and reflexed a respect for the environment. Loved interacting with the seals. We enjoyed the free time to explore Maria Island and saw several wombats and wallabies. Thanks so much!

Getting to see Maria Is and IIe Des Phogues from the sea was a wonderful experience.
We had a wonderful day out on the cruise with Michael and Rachel. Appreciated the witty and interesting commentary and learning about not only Maria and lle Des Phogues, but also the wildlife that live there. Plus, we had the opportunity to swim at Fossil Cliffs! Cool clear water. A highlight of our trip. Take your bathers and towel.

        Far exceeded expectations
We took the Ile Des Phoques + Maria Island Cruise & Walk Day Tour on a party cloudy day at the end of February with our Japanese friends who are resident in WA. We are locals from Tasmania. We all had a wonderful, exciting, interesting time. We were never rushed and never bored. The Skipper and Crew (Zoe & Rachel) were fantastic, organised, very friendly, informed and overall great company. The time at Ile des Phoques was fantastic, young seals playing around the boat and we entered into two amazingly colourful caves. In a beautiful, calm bay off Maria Island lunch was served efficiently and was very good. Everyone's lunch (pre-orderered and part of the package) was named and by this time the crew knew all our names so quick service. Drinks were included. We had a good views from the ship to the coastal highlights of Maria Island before docking at the quay for our two hour stay on the island. After an informative guided walk we voyaged home with a pod of dolphins. We have since been busy recommending this boat tour to all our friends, a wonderful day out.

        Amazing day out!
The trip was an all round amazing experience! Would recommend to all. The staff were fantastic - informative, knowledgeable and so friendly. The boat was comfortable and clean and lunch was excellent. The seals, dolphins and wombats were all perfectly behaved and posed for many pictures! Would also give an honourable mention to the excellent breakfast toasty we got from the cafe meeting point!

        Great day out
This was a great tour. We travelled out to Ile Des Phoques and had morning tea watching the seals swimming around and enjoying the attention. We then travelled through some hidden sea caves which was amazing. This was followed by a delicious lunch and viewing of the Painted Cliffs. We then headed to Maria Island where we saw wombats and pademelons wandering around and were given a history of the island.

        Maria Island Magic
We had an amazing day aboard. The weather meant that the seals were ready to frolick near the boat so we got a fantastic view. I was so impressed with the respect Michael and the crew had for the wildlife. The knowledge that the crew had about the island, the history and the geography were exemplary. The crew were so attentive to everyone’s needs. Can’t recommend this company enough.

A great all day cruise, finished with a two hour walk on the island. The staff were amazing lovely engaging people. Plenty of photo ops. We were lucky to see Dolphins and seals and were amazed by the amount of beautiful wombats geese and wallabies on the island. You can take the guided tour or wonder at your leisure. Staff were checking in regularly to see how we enjoying the cruise. We ordered the pre packed lunch which was great value for money and enjoyed a nice glass of wine on board. My only negative feedback is the amount of people on board which made it tricky for seating and a little to cramped.

We had the most amazing day with Mike and the crew! Weather was great and we managed to visit the seals at Ile Des Phoques for morning tea, and ventured into some otherworldly sea caves.. Loved the views around Maria and our gorgeous lunch spot, food was surprisingly good as well. And thanks so much for the team for the complimentary wines for our honeymoon!(Two honeymoon couples on board what a nice coincidence!) Great walk on Maria Island in the afternoon too, with all the lovely wildlife we couldn't even move very far since there're just too many cute wombats, wallabies, pademelons and kangaroos next to you. I would definitely recommend this tour if you love a bit of wilderness, adventure and relaxation at the same time. Especially for wildlife lovers, this is the one to go (Do check their schedule for the Ile Des Phoques tour). Thanks again Mike and team you guys were so wonderful - friendly, helpful, warm and knowledgeable. Would love to come back one day:)

What a wonderful day out. If you're looking to experience the East Coast of Tasmania, there's really no better way of doing it than this trip. This is a small family run business who share their genuine Tassie hospitality with visitors. Angela, Steve and Mike really have curated a wonderful experience.

Not only do you get to see the marine life like dolphins, seals etc. on the cruise portion the trip but you really get to take in the geology of Maria Island and Ile de Phoques. I don't know how Mike and Steve did it but they managed to turn a 40 foot boat around in small caves.

The caves were certainly a highlight for us. We did get lucky with the tides, waves and wind which allowed for smooth navigation in and out of these tight spaces. Inside the caves you could see everything not only on the rock walls but through the crystal clear water.

Nothing felt rushed, and we were really able to immerse ourselves into the experience. It's quite a long time you're on the water but for us this was a big positive and made the experience. There was no check boxes, just enjoying nature in a respectful way.

Talking to both Steve and Mike was very interesting and informative. We enjoyed a healthy salad bowl lunch at Maria where again crystal clear waters allowed us to see sting rays and fish around stunning cliffs.

We got on the cruise at 9am and hopped off at Maria Island just before 2pm. We had over 2 hours to walk around guided or be on our own. The two of us did a combo of the above and just took a post lunch snooze in the grass.

We got back on the boat just before 4 and had the Painted Cliffs all to ourselves. What a fantastic way to end the day.

We also took advantage of their shuttle bus from Hobart to Triabunna which meant a snooze on the way back home.

This trip is really about the people who make the experience and I'd highly recommend it if you're based on Hobart or if you're making your way up or down the East Coast of Tasmania!!

MIke and his team were fantastic. There was a bit of a swell the day we went over but with Mike at the helm, the crossing went fine. It wsa too dangerous to go right around the island but we had a great day travelling down the west side, past the painted cliffs (which is what I was so keen to see) and down around the tip into Haunted cover where we had morning tea. The lemon slice was sooo good. We saw seas and eagles frollicking and stop[ed at Shal bay for lunch where about 7 people braved the cold water and had a good time. The we went on shore and I was delighted to see mum and baby wombats just raoming around. The trees there are huge and windblown making for great photos. Just before leaving Mike took a few of us around to the fossil cliffs in what I think were quite big waves (about 3 metre swell) a little scary but Like handle the boat so well. All in all a great day!

We have just completed 2 & 1/2 wonderful weeks holidaying on Tasmania’s East Coast north of Hobart. We have not have a bad day in all that time. Mike (East Coast Cruises - Maria Island) fetched us from Hobart for the “The circumnavigation of Maria Island onboard 'The Spirit of Maria”. It was without doubt, one of the best days we had on this trip.
We managed to see an abundance of dolphins 🐬, seals, kangaroos, wombats, Cape Barren Geese, Wedge tailed eagles, albatrosses and other sea birds. The landscape and geology of the island is fascinating. We all took dozens and dozens of photo's. Fortunately we were able to use the facilities on the boat to re charge cameras & phones.
Mike is a great skipper, extremely knowledgable and passionate about the environment, the island's history and its inhabitants. He is very friendly & approachable and is conscious of each passengers safety, comfort and tour experience. Similarly Steve (his father) was also very friendly, knowledgeable and personable and spent his day making sure every passenger enjoyed their day. Lunch was delicious and a most enjoyable onboard experience in a great location.
Mike and Steve are an excellent partnership & made sure all guests felt welcomed making a point to learn each of the passenger's names. The commentary was excellent. With only no more than 24 passengers on board, there were vantage points for all.
This is an experience not to be missed. We will certainly do this again when we return to Tasmania & would urge anyone coming to Hobart & East Coast to make this tour a must.
Thanks to East Coast Cruises and especially to Mike & Steve for a day we won’t forget.

This cruise was the BEST experience. We saw seals, dolphins, wombats and pademelons in the wild. We were able to visit sea caves which were magnificent. The tour of both Ile Des Poques and Maria Island from the water gave a unique perspective that simply cannot be replicated on land. The geology was fascinating. Mike gave amazing commentary during the tour on the water and Ally was so personable and informative when touring Maria Island on foot. The company is obviously making every effort to conserve and protect the natural and historical features that they showcase. The food was great. The service was great. The staff get to know you by name and the whole experience felt so personal. With a maximum of 22 passengers, the boat is comfortable and the very effort is made by the team to enhance your enjoyment. I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. Just try and jag fantastic weather conditions like we did!!

We took the cruise that went to the island with the seals and sea caves in the morning and then Maria Island in the afternoon. Throughout the whole day the staff (Mike, Tahlia and Ellen) were amazing - the best we've ever come across. They were fantastic with the kids onboard and also extremely friendly in general, spending time to chat with everyone at some point, which made for a great atmosphere and the most friendly group tour (of about 30 people) that we have been on. Mike had plenty of interesting and informative commentary, and all the staff were very helpful and caring and they really went out of their way to try and minimise any seasickness that anyone was feeling. We saw a wide array of wildlife (many seals that were really relaxed and playful, a brief glimpse of a dolphin, and plenty of pademelons, wallabies, kangaroos and wombats on Maria island) and the sea caves were also great. There was plenty of tasty lunch, in a wonderfully relaxed spot, and drinks were available throughout the day. Overall it was one of the best trips we've ever done and the staff were absolutely brilliant - we'd give them more than 5 stars if possible. We totally recommend this for everyone!

What a wonderful experience Michaeland Talia gave us on our full navigation of Maria Island.
The day was perfect a little overcast with only a little swell, the rock formations, the colours and scenery were spectatula.
We encountered three humpback Whales spending time watching them come close to the boat doing there own thing tail flipping and lifting their head to look at us.
The beaches are so white and untouched, lots of seals and bird life.
Then our tour of Darlington and its buildings and history are so intresting.
I would fully recommend this tour.

Every aspect was a thrill in some way. Be it the surge of the three Suzuki’s effortlessly pushing the “Spirit of Maria” through the Mercury Passage or the encounter with the cliff rock formations together with Mike’s comprehensive commentary.
We had the full circumnavigation booked but the Southerly swell would have spoilt the day had Mike continued. What we saw was a more detailed and leisurely cruise of world standard formations.

I must admit to not expecting much when I boarded what I naively considered to be a smallish boat after an initial friendly yet folksy welcome from our deckhand Steve. This was after being told on the online information that the dedicated lunch was a ‘Salad’.
How wrong can one be! And yes I confess now and fully to being a personality type that rhymes with tanker.
Okay Steve the deckhand turned out to be exceedingly knowledgeable on all things but particularly local history, calm and personable especially to our 10 year old daughter, obliging in every possible respect and just a very interesting and intelligent guy to have a chat to.
No surprise therefore that his son Michael (which was revealed on the way home) the skipper and on board commentator was absolutely superb with giving you just exactly enough amount of information so that in quiet times you could soak in what you had learned and appreciate your stunning surroundings. He has an passion for the ocean and the environment matched only by his desire to pass it on his passengers. He was also very adept at steering and handling the vessel (which I pause at this moment to mention turned out to be perfectly sized for such a voyage) through what were some tricky conditions.
The lunch (which I suspect was made by Michael’s mum who checked us in)was absolutely delicious. My partner had food envy and we swapped the chicken salad for the ham salad but I couldn’t split them. Beer and wine available to accompany the food all served with the seamless aplomb one expects at a high end restaurant.
The 2 hours on the island were fantastic with many interactions with the the local fauna, all helped by Steve’s laconic explanations.
If you do one thing when in Tasmania do this tour and I haven’t even mentioned the stunning geology, the amazing convict and colonial history or the spectacular scenery!
