Arrive at Eaglehawk Neck in Tasman National Park, where you will transfer to an open-air cruise ship and set sail around the peninsula’s rugged coast. During the 3-hour wilderness cruise, look out for dolphins, seals, and whales along the coast, and enjoy spectacular views as you glide beneath the towering dolerite sea cliffs, peer inside sea caves, and perhaps spot peregrine falcons and other sea birds swooping over the sea or nesting in the cliffs. Back on the mainland, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s UNESCO-listed convict sites. After an introduction from your guide, you are free to discover the former penal settlement at your own pace. With around three hours to explore the open-air museum, see the guard tower, penitentiary, and tower cottage, and uncover the harrowing history of the site, which forms a key part of Australia’s convict history. After your Port Arthur visit, meet up with your guide for the return journey to Hobart, where your tour ends at the departure point.

Great views. Cold, windy and wet. Bring lots of layers. The tour company provides an outer layer of long slicker.

    Great views and wildlife
The views of the cliffs were amazing, and we were lucky enough to see dolphins, whales, seals and an array of birds. The staff were also super friendly and very conscious to ensure everyone was comfortable. Overall an amazing trip.

Rain or shine, this tour is well worth taking!
This tour was a great experience! The views of the Tasman Peninsula and its surrounding sea cliffs were breathtaking. The weather was not the best the day we went, but the tour was still 100% worth it. I think we experienced all four seasons in the 3 hour period, but that is somewhat to be expected in Tasmania. Even in the pouring rain, the cliffs were so beautiful and our guides had some really good commentary throughout. The guides had excellent info on the wildlife and landscape, and were had some good jokes as well! A great way to see the peninsula from a different viewpoint than you would on a hike or in your car.

An awesome, memorable and exhilarating day
The day before my Tasman Island Tour I received a call to say my booked tour was cancelled due to forecast bad weather and offered the opportunity to swap to a morning Cruise instead. Fortunately I was able to swap my plans - this was one activity on my priority list for my trip to Tasmania and I was not disappointed. The Pennicott Journeys team was awesome. We all met at their base on the Tasman Peninsula for a briefing and provision of wet weather gear. It was well organised and I felt that all safety aspects of the trip were covered. We were transferred by bus to the wharf at Pirates Bay and the fun began. The sea was rough, the weather was wild and totally suited the rugged environment of the Tasman Peninsula. Unfortunately due to movement of the boat and the misty drizzle was not a good day for photos but the experience is certainly etched in my memory. Soaring cliffs, crashing ocean, deep caves hollowed into the cliff face, magnificent rock formations, plenty of bird life - including albatros, white bellied sea eagles, mutton birds; and lazy seals enjoying the sunshine. An awesome, memorable and exhilarating day. Thoroughly recommend this journey. Thanks to the Pennicott Team.

Dolphins, seals, mutton birds and albatross
Excellent tour. The guides were friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of the needs of the people on board (there were a couple of people experiencing sea sickness who needed support). The tour is flexible to adapt to the weather and environmental conditions to ensure that the participants got bang for buck. We would recommend it

This was excellent! The staff were very professional and organized and our guide was quite knowledgeable. You see so much along the way - beautiful sea cliffs, seals, dolphins and albatross - and learn the history of the Tasmanian coast. They even handed out ginger tablets for seasickness (just in case).

    Awesome Day Exploring
This was amazing from the drive out through the country side our tour guide shared many different aspect and highlights, to the sea adventure of the coast line which was truly spectacular, the boat crew were knowledgable and great hosts, we got wet and saw so much rugged coastline that many would never see. The options for lunch and a visit to the chocolate factory, then back to nature to the Remarkable caves and beaches before picking up those that chose to walk through Port Arthur - great options, great guides and an overall fantastic day. Thankyou

Very easy to see why it is an award winning cruise!! Don’t miss this tour!
From start to end, it is easy to see why this is an award winning tour. Chris and Lily were welcoming, helpful, knowledgeable and downright awesome. They clearly enjoy their jobs (and are very good at them!), which in turns makes the customers enjoy their experience. All I saw around me was smiling faces. The scenery is amazing, it almost feels surreal because it is so amazing. Chris knows how to drive the boat to give customers a fun time without making it too wild. And Lily does a great job of providing information with a smile. Both Chris and Lily have a terrific understanding about wildlife, which helps greatly with knowing where and how to find seals, dolphins, albatross and several Orcas! The Orcas were the cherry on the top. Even without that (which is obviously not able to be planned or guaranteed) I would still have had the best time. If you only had three hours in Tasmania, I reckon this would be the best way to spend it! Thanks Chris and Lily for an experience that will stay with us for a lifetime.

Excellent value.
Did the full tour from Hobart to morning tea at a charming little ranch restaurant, then the cruise around to Tasman island with knowledgeable guides, drove to Port Arthur for a great little lunch and historic tour, then the drive back to Hobart into the sunset. Our driver, Phil, was amazing.
Very lovely tour that was well worth it.

We went out on this full day tour today. Phil was our bus driver and Chris was our captain on the boat. Firstly, let me tell you about the service from this company - Phil and Chris both have wonderful personalities which cater to all age groups and both very good tour guides very informative and have you laughing as well. They are both a credit to this company. Now the tour, absolutely fantastic if you are wanting to see the best of Hobart in one day you get it all the peninsula cruise and port Arthur were sensational, Bucket list stuff!! On the peninsula cruise we saw so many dolphins and seals and the sights of the cliffs were out of this world my mother and son both gave the tour a 10 out of 10!! For the cruise I recommend taking a beanie for your ears and definitely a couple of layers because it can get cold. Port Arthur is just incredible as you only have a few hours there you’ve got to pick the parts of the settlement that you really want to check out. Morning tea was provided at the lavender farm, and we were served fresh scones, delicious. Lunch was also provided at Port Arthur and can I tell you, you get so much and it was so tasty and also bear in mind that you will be very hungry after the cruise. The next time we come back to Tasmania we will probably book this tour again as it was a wonderful day out for the whole family.

This day trip had it all. Phil the bus driver made sure everyone knew what to do and when. Damo and his companion ran an outstanding trip to Tasman island and Port Arthur on their great tourist speed boats. Be aware that if you suffer from motion or sea sickness this tour may not be for you. Lots of dolphins, seals and bird life on our tour. The detailed information was presented in an informative but entertaining way. Highly recommended!

You are warned explicitly that this will not be a calm ride. Not a dry one either. Ginger pills are handed out before we started. That being said it is a unique experience enhanced by the knowledge and professionalism of the crew on a boat more aptly characterised as an outsized rubber ducky. It has a roof which I suppose protects you to a degree from any sun. Not the water But this is part of the adventure. You get to see sea birds certainly seals and maybe dolphins in their habitat together with rock formations. Andrew was our skipper and deserves much praise for the safe journey which could just as easily been a very wet one. The meal and Port Arthur tour was enjoyable but all too short and anticlimactic. The bus driver or more accurately tour manager has a discretion to return you to your hotel/car but this is not formally part of the tour and Phil went out of his way to deliver us home. All in all a memorable experience. One point taken off for not enough time at Port Arthur. If I could only take off half a point I would.

The boat cruise was amazing - great sights, interesting sealife, The dolphins swam alongside us for awhile. In a couple areas, seals were plentiful among the rocks. Well worth the time.

Our guide was very knowledgeable. He had us preorder lunch and had the large restaurant at Port Arthur reserve a table for our group, so our table was ready when we arrived and lunch was brought out soon after that.

Before the tour of Port Arthor Historic Site began, I asked what it would cover. Because of the depth of information they planned on sharing about the history of the site, the tour was only going to cover 1 building. So, I skipped the guided tour and explored the site on my own. Plaques in reach building/area provided adequate information so I knew the history of what I was seeing. I'm glad I did that.

What a fantastic day. Well organised and fun. The coffee stop at the lavender centre was very nice - some of the best scones we have eaten. The boat trip was both beautiful and exciting - the weather was lovely for the trip out, blue skies and sunshine. However, on the way back a sudden windy squall, typical of this unpredictable part of the world, turned the cruise into an exciting ride back. We saw lots of dolphins and seals, albatrosses and shearwaters. Then on to Port Arthur, which was amazing, with a good length of time (3 hours) to enjoy it. Would recommend this trip.

The 3 hr boat cruise round Tasman Island was sensational. We had a calm sea and good weather so we're able to go up the east coast. Highlight was seeing dolphins and a whale - what an experience!!!!.
The bus driver and the two female crew on the boat were friendly and knowledgeable and made the cruise all the most enjoyable.
Port Arthur was also great but just didn't have a lot of time to explore the area. Lunch was very good too. Overall a wonderful day trip setting the wild beauty of the Tasmanian south coast. If your thinking of doing this trip and think it's expensive I say do it, it is absolutely worth every cent.

We visited on 15th of Jan and frankly did not have much expectations from the tour. Just booked it for the good reviews and to keep the family entertained. But it was so much fun. We travelled with aged dad (78) and kids 7 and 3. The travel was exciting and long and yes do carry some warm clothes!we took the bus with Ben and the travel was scenic and full of information. Our boat was albatross and our guide was fun and informative and gave the tourists a lot if time to soak everything in. We even saw a humpback along with dolphins seals fur seals . The cliffs and the waters were such a wonderful experience and it will stay with us for a while. The food was good and way more than we needed.

I will not reccommend to take babies in the ride because of the splashes from the sea and the wobbling boat but its up to choice. There were babies in our boat! I also reccommend that if u are with kids aged 12 or less take your own sea sickness medicine. The one Given in boat is great for adults but not for kids who has not yet learnt to gulp down tablets. But the boat medicine works great. All in all a great trip for us

Highlight of our trip down to Tasmania. Mitch was our driver and was super nice and very helpful, made sure we were all good and made himself available for anyone with questions. Our cruise was wild! Less than ideal condition to be on the water but damn those guides were good. I dont think anyone actually fully appreciated the level of skill it takes to get that size boat through those spots in the conditions we had. (I can't remember our guides names unfortunately but we were on the oyster catcher, Monday 14th Nov. 2022, the company will know who they were!) Would definitely take ginger tablets if you're prone to seasickness, it is the Tasman sea and it can get angry.

Finished up at Port Arthur for the afternoon with out supplied lunch which was excellent, very filling!

It is a big day out. Take water. You are fed morning tea and lunch but i would definitely take water and small snacks if you have kids, etc.

If you have a backpack, take a plastic bag to put it in for the boat cruise. Trust me on this.

Love the environmentally friendly attitude of the company too! That was a huge bonus for us.

One last thing. They sell merch. I got a jacket, well worth it, super warm and of an excellent quality. Would highly recommend. Far better than some of the crap you get from the chain stores!
