Overview
Explore the Tasman Peninsula from both land and sea on a full-day excursion from Hobart. See the Tasman Peninsula from the water on a three-hour wilderness cruise, enjoy an included lunch before your tour continues to Port Arthur Historic Site. Gain invaluable insights from your interpretive guides on this Tasman Peninsula day tour, which includes morning tea and lunch.
Highlights
  • Spot dolphins and admire the Jurassic cliffs on a 3-hour wilderness cruise
  • Self-guided tour of Port Arthur: visit the sites that interest you most
  • Hassle-free, round-trip scenic transportation by bus from Hobart
  • Great-value: morning tea, lunch, and entrance fees are included
What to Expect
Make your way to Franklin Wharf to meet your guide for a 7:30am departure. Board your air-conditioned bus and set out on the scenic drive to the Tasman Peninsula, stopping along the way to enjoy morning tea (included) at a local café. Arrive at Eaglehawk Neck in Tasman National Park, where you will transfer to an open-air cruise ship and set sail around the peninsula’s rugged coast. During the 3-hour wilderness cruise, look out for dolphins, seals, and whales along the coast, and enjoy spectacular views as you glide beneath the towering dolerite sea cliffs, peer inside sea caves, and perhaps spot peregrine falcons and other sea birds swooping over the sea or nesting in the cliffs. Back on the mainland, stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to the Port Arthur Historic Site, one of Australia’s UNESCO-listed convict sites. After an introduction from your guide, you are free to discover the former penal settlement at your own pace. With around three hours to explore the open-air museum, see the guard tower, penitentiary, and tower cottage, and uncover the harrowing history of the site, which forms a key part of Australia’s convict history. After your Port Arthur visit, meet up with your guide for the return journey to Hobart, where your tour ends at the departure point.

I was there about 20 years ago, and how has it changed, interactive exhibition is the best put together that I have seen. But plan to spend at least 3 or more hours and to remember there is a cruise available during your time there.
