About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- julieaE2534GS0 contributionsSo glad we chose this tour!I had been doing research on the various options of traveling through Tasmania. UnderDownUnder tours seemed to provide the greatest tour for our needs, and at such a great price! I'm so glad we chose this. We had an amazing guide, Evan, who showed us so many things. He was incredibly knowledgeable and funny, and really knows his coffee! We were definitely the 'seniors' on the tour - three couples in their early 70's - but never felt segregated in any way. 'The Kids,' as we called them (all 20 and 30 somethings) were all so fun and interesting. We had great accommodations in each town we visited, and I know 'the kids' enjoy their hostel experiences as well. I would never hesitate to recommend Under Down Under to anyone who wants a rich experience in Tasmania.Written 27 August 2024
- M799MFjackl0 contributionsAwesome tripKeagan was phenomenal as our tour guide. I learned tons of history about Abel Tasman and how Tasmania got it's name and some of it's former history as Van Diemens land. We learned how most cities and towns got their name (spoiler alert, copied and pasted from UK cities and towns) and learned way more than I ever thought I'd learn about mining and the rocky geologist. If you are a fan of dolomite, you're in for a treat. Keagan was super knowledgable, super friendly, and enthusiastic the entire time. I've been around the world from Kenya to Iceland to the Cook Islands and more and I would hire a Keagan every single time if it were an option. Thanks Keagan, thanks Anthony and thanks Under Down Under for the fantastic experience!Written 27 April 2024
- 825charlottem0 contributionsIf I could go back right now and do the tour again I would not hesitate!Absolutely amazing tour and experience! Picked up at the start of the tour and immediately made feel very welcome by our exceptional tour guide Tim. We visited so many incredibly beautiful and culturally significant locations and at all locations Tim was able to provide any detail you could have asked for. Walks were clearly explained and alternatives were always provided for those who didn't want to climb stairs or for those who wanted a more adventurous walk - do the walk even if you end up a little red-faced, the sense of achievement and the spectacular scenery are worth it! Tim's narrative in the bus on the drives between locations was well informed and helped me to fall more and more in love with Tasmania. While the tour is essentially non-stop, there was also opportunity to stop and just to relax and enjoy the view. The motel/hotel accommodation was always clean and the added bonus of an electric blanket after a cooler day was always appreciated. Included meals were fresh with a number of options available and multiple courses on offer on an evening. On the days where we fended for our selves we were given plenty of opportunity to stop and pick up supplies, including at the southern most vineyard in Australia and plenty of ice cream stops. The whole experience was exceptional and made even better by Tim. The tour group of likeminded travellers who wanted to see the raw beauty and history of the beautiful island added to the experience. If I could go back right now and do the tour again I would not hesitate in doing it all again and following the other path to discover more beauty.Written 22 April 2024

- A_Brit_Britson0 contributionsGreat fun exploring Tasmania! A lot of driving, a lot of great scenery, and a lot of fun thanks to the tour guideHad a cracking tour guide, Evan, who gave us a great six day tour around Tasmania exploring scenic panoramas and fascinating wildlife. A warning that this tour is a lot of driving from place to place with not much hiking, but that being said, you do get to explore more of what the island has to offer. Had a really great time and would recommend to anyone looking to explore Tassie with not much time and wanting to cram as much in as possible. Thanks for the great time Evan!Written 15 April 2024
- FarAway3725450 contributionsAmazing tourHad an amazing week in Tasmania, we covered a lot of places. Tom was a fantastic guide and there were options for different fitness levels each day. We had a great mix of ages in the group which made the whole experience even better.Written 12 April 2024
- W3662LOjuliab0 contributionsUltimate 10 - Under Down UnderLooking for something to do in your spare time ? As a seasoned traveller from Perth, I decided that it was time to visit Tasmania, it was never on my top 10 places to visit. So I booked the Ultimate 10 Tour on a whim. Was I wrong, Tasmania is just unbelievably amazing, with its breathtaking natural landscapes, the sheer beauty of the National Parks, wildlife I have never seen before in their natural habitats such as the Tasmanian Pademelon, Bare-Nosed Wombat, Wallabies just to name a few. Tasmania is also steeped with history with its Port Arthur Historic site and saving the Franklin River. I will let your Tour Guide fill in the missing gaps ! The tour itself is well balanced with a mixture of outdoor nature loving activities as well as visiting the town of Richmond for some retail therapy ! The aspect that appealed to me most about this tour was that it was the only tour that pretty much covered most of Tasmania in 10 days. A tour is not a tour without a tour guide/driver, right? About Justin our tour guide/driver. Well, he was also amazing - always on time, patient, just the right amount of talking while driving, gave relevant information about how the following day would look like and facts about each location, he was thoughtful and would go out of his way to ensure everyone was happy. He was the glue that made our group / tour a memorable one ! Thanks Justin, you're a star.Written 6 April 2024
- Just4u2again0 contributionsStunning Tassie TourIt was time to explore Tasmania, so I compared various options to see the land down under, including self-drive choices and using my own vehicle. For the sheer simplicity, and cost effectiveness, I chose a small group 10-day tour, offered by Under Down Under Tours. The itinerary was extensive and appeared to cover all the best highlights you could possibly see in 10 days. Mother nature was the clear star on this tour; providing stunning walks through ancient rain forests, and many promontories which showcased the rugged Tasmania coastline. To describe all the magnificent experiences provided would fill pages; for me, the cruise through Macquarie Harbour and the Gordon River, the panoramic view from Wineglass Bay look-out, Cradle Mountain and the walk around Dove Lake, in the shadow of the mountain, deserve special mention. And, a special mention of our driver and tour guide Justin. Justin worked tirelessly to ensure that all participants on the tour enjoyed what was on offer. His commentary covering the history of the regions we were traversing and the special little anecdotes he provided made the trip just that much more interesting and educational. His enthusiastic participation certainly enhanced the enjoyment of the tour. A great tour of Tasmania with a driver/guide who cared, you could not ask for much more.Written 6 April 2024
- toscape0 contributionsAmazing !!Justin our tour guide was a blast !...went above and beyond to ensure our trip was amazing. 10 guests in a 21 seater bus was an added bonus. We were busy each and every day...so much so that we longed for a day of rest !...Justin's knowledge of each and every stop/site was outstanding. Can't recommend this tour highly enoughWritten 5 April 2024
- GoPlaces015722627790 contributionsTasmania 6-Day Tour, you MUST get Justin as tour guide! We did the Tasmania in 6 Days: the Major Highlights and Attractions tour in March, 2024. This was without a doubt the best tour I have ever been on - due almost entirely to our guide Justin. This tour was not my first "rodeo". He is very personable and worked his butt off to make the trip as easy and enjoyable as possible. If you are looking at a tour in Tas or Australia proper, delay your trip and/or do whatever is necessary to get on a tour with him as guide. If Under Down Under sets a tour through hell and Justin is the guide get on it. I will. Justin's enroute timing with explanations of area history, animals and vegetation was superb. I think he has total recall. He would tell us a story about the area or relate a little history and give us good breaks from such from time to time. His commentary alone was worth the price of the trip. That said, had I rented a car and driven around for 6 days, trying to visit all the cool spots, I would have come away with about 5% of what I received with this tour with Justin. General notes: We opted for a private ensuite room and they were all fine. We had 21 folks in our bus from all over the world. About 11 of the folks opted for hostel accommodation and there were no complaints that I heard. I have never before done an Under Down Under tour and I am not Justin's brother or close friend. Had to add that! The guy just did an amazing job for us! GO HAWKS!Written 3 April 2024
- jullda0 contributionsA great way to see Tassie. We just did the Famous Five tour of Tasmania. It was fantastic. We had Tim as our Guide and he was very knowledgeable about plants, wildlife, towns etc as we toured Tassie. He was extremely helpful to the group. We had a mixed group of ages (21 to 78) and from many different countries. Solo travellers , couples and mates on the tour. Everyone got on and had a few laughs. There’s lots of walking, waterfalls and views as well lots of animals to see. There is So much to see and enjoy here. Motel accomodation is clean and good on this tour, not 5 star and that’s ok, it’s clean and comfortable. If I had one small gripe it would be that food in Strahan is either a rip off $42 a main at Hamers or The Kitchen ( sorry that’s Sydney /Melbourne Prices not a town of 700 people ) or barely average food at Molly’s or the Fish and Chips. So maybe tour operators need to reconsider this town. So for me Strahan was a disappointment. Other reviewers have mentioned this as an issue. Otherwise this was a throughly enjoyable and great way to see Tasmania with an excellent guide.Written 28 March 2024
- liannep9890 contributionsI'm already jealous if you're goingGoing to Tasmania at the beginning of my travels was a big mistake. After this tour it can't get any better anymore. This tour is just simply amazing! Had the best time of my life with a sparkly, wonderful and cheerful group of people, our always enthousiastic tour guide Evan and the beautiful landscapes Tasmania has to offer. As a backpacker, I wasn't sure if booking such a tour would be something for me. But since I don't have a driving licence myself and really wanted to explore Tasmania, I gave it a try. And boy, little did I know! Within a couple of days the group becomes your little family. The group was really diverse; couples, solo backpackers and friends. We've got to see a lot of Tasmania; beautiful hikes through nature, the Tasmanian devil, a wonderful play and amazing beaches. Evan, our tour guide, made sure everyone was having a great time. By giving us lots of information, showing us around, giving different options based on different levels of fitness and especially by looking after everyone during our walks by walking and chatting (and joking ;)) with everyone. If I could recommend this tour? 1000% yes!Written 19 March 2024
- 984vickiw0 contributionsAwesome TourGreat tour. Awesome tour guide and tour group. Amazing places. Breathtaking waterfalls. Beautiful scenery. Heaps of fun. Options to suit various needs / fitness/ abilities. We were extremely well looked after by Evan our tour guide who gave us interesting and entertaining commentary and lots of opportunities to experience the beauty and wonder of Tasmania’s natural landscape, wilderness and wildlife.Written 10 March 2024
- U418SBkevinw0 contributionsSuperb tour of the best of TasmaniaI have never been on a long tour before but at 74, I decided with my wife that this would be the best way to see Tasmania and I would not have to do any driving or organise anything. With a small group of 21 in the bus and a comprehensive itinerary what could go wrong. As it turned out nothing other than picking up a common cold on the plane and a puncture in front right tyre of the bus, which turned out to be part of the adventure anyway. Our tour guide and driver Keygan would be the most knowledgable and interesting person I have ever met in this role. A native Tasmanian he has an intimate knowledge of the flora and fauna, history, not just since European settlement but of the Palawa people going back thousands of years as well as contemporary modern Tasmanian issues and lifestyle. His knowledge also of the geographic and geological features of the landscape is awesome. Anecdotes of every location flowed easily as we rounded yet another corner with a fascinating commentary interspersed with comedic notes and stories ranging from indigenous culture to bush ranger antics. Overall it was awesome. Thanks for the experience.Written 8 March 2024

The 5-day tour of Tasmania with Keygan was fantastic. Would highly recommend, we saw amazing parts of the island including stays in Strahan, Launceston and Bicheno. Highlights were the walks at Wineglass Bay and Marion's Lookout, Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair
National Park. The guide made the trip, Keygans knowledge was amazing and we learnt so much from him - he also went above and beyond, joining us on walks. 100% recommend.

Famous 5 tour. Joined this in November 2022. It was a full tour, 24 people, of varying nationalities and age range (25-78). The tour guide was a girl called Misty who was absolutely brilliant in managing, driving and communicating with the group. Full days from 7am to 6pm which made the most of the time available. Thoroughly recommend as a tour to see the best of Tasmania.

Thank you Geoff for those comments. We love seeing diverse individuals come together as one group over the 5 full days and Misty does a good job of facilitating it (as do our other guides too).

Our tour guide Rachel is so nice and friendly. She is very knowledgeable about Tasmania. The tour itself is packed with adventures and really worth it considering the cheap price. I've met some awesome people of all ages in the tour which is a plus. Some parts of the tour felt a bit rushed and i feel like i didn't have enough time to take in the new places. The hostel at Launceston that we stayed at didn't have an accessible powerpoint in the room so that was pretty disappointing cause I had to use my powerbank to charge my phone but it wasn't enough for the next day. Other than that this tour is good value for money and you get to see a lot of Tasmania in 5 days.

Many thanks for writing this review.
We are delighted to know you enjoyed our active itinerary and Rachel's guiding - she is awesome.
Tasmania is beautiful in every corner, and we tried to show most of it to our guests in 5 days. Usually guests feel the tour is easy and relaxed, however, we understand that some people may need more time to capture the essence of the place.
We appreciate your feedback related to the powerpoint in the Hostel at Launceston, we will let them know to provide some solutions in the future.
Best wishes!

This was the first time I was travelling in a group tour as mostly in the past I have done only travelled as solo traveler or did a day tour. The experience from this tour has been so great that I am thinking of doing more such tours in future.
Keygan who had been our guide throughout this tour was very polite, humble, very knowledgeable, humorous and friendly. All the tour mates were very friendly and humorous. I made new friends which is great. The best thing about this tour with Under Down Under was that they had taken to places more than I expected and cost of your was reasonable. Apart from that, accommodation was good and everyone were very well taken care of.
Now I am back in Brisbane but feel like going back and doing the tour again. I would like to return to tour with Under Down Under in future.

We had the pleasure of Misty as our tour guide for 5 days. Misty MADE our holiday!
She has a wonderful sense of humour, is caring, very informative & we felt completely safe in her care. Even when we had a drama - at the victims own negligence- Misty handled the recovery with caring professionalism. We wish her a bright future and would travel with her again & recommend her & the Under Down Under company. The daily schedule was fabulous, we saw stunning scenery everyday and motel accommodation was great. Overall a wonderful experience.

A couple of friends and I together booked a 5day trip with under down under and it was an amazing tour by the guide Misty!
The entire trip was great and the way Misty was sharing stories about a particular place or the way she narrated them was a cherry on the cake. Also loved the fact that Misty was not just being our guide but she became one among us and brought everyone together and made it a fun trip for everyone. Thank you Misty and under down under for the amazing tour and keep it up!

I usually don't do reviews but Jacob Fisher made this trip like no other. We had an amazing time over the 5 days and met great people on the tour. We got a nice blend of outdoor activities like hiking and swimming in the morning and cook-ups and dinners in the evening. Jacob was extremely knowledgeable (fan of horticulture, trees, birds, pretty much anything) and always had a story or two to make the trip more eventful.
If anyone's interested in getting to see Tassie over 5 days and keen to get away from the city for a bit, this tour is perfect for you.

Small Island, So Much To See
For such a small Island, there is a lot to see in Tasmania. By driving in a small van with an excellent guide, there’s no better way to get up close to nature: Mountains, Beaches, Waterfalls, Rainforests, and a lot more.
Our group of 16 was very fortunate to have Tom as our guide and driver on the 5 day tour all around the beautiful and surprising Tasmania. Tom, always with a smile on his face and wearing shorts when the rest of us were bundled up as Spring had just started, was a proud local showing off his Tassie home. Tom gave us lots of history along with personal stories to bring meaning to the many places we visited. He was knowledgeable of the animals and plants, interesting, engaged, passionate, and spent time getting to know each of us.
While there was a lot of driving, it’s the only way I could imagine to be able to visit so many National Parks, hike to see waterfalls, and get close to the unique animals of Tasmania.
This was a great tour with a great tour leader. I highly recommend you spend 5 days with Under Down Under Tours especially if Tom is your leader.

Planning for a short holiday for 2 pax in Dec 2022. What is the max pax per tour? With Covid still lingering, we are very mindful on strict precautionary measures, especially in enclosed place ie travelling vehicle (car or van), accommodation, group activities etc.
From the available information I gathered, face mask is not mandatory in travelling vehicle. Also, what type of accommodation will be provided?
Separately, do you do private tour just for 2 pax and how much is costs compared to this standard 5-day package?
