- marcuswO8982MY0 contributionsDoesn’t live up to the hype … unless you love staged tours (I guess 🤷♂️)This place is way too hyped up. It’s a tour bus set up. Stop one: honey shop. Small place selling honey. I guess if you love honey … 🤷♂️ Stop two: beer and cheese. They care about what they’re doing … and it’s kind of a nice place … but not really anything special. We tried the tasting paddle … two dark beers (not great) and two pales (ok). Not really much to say. Stop three: chocolate shop … that just has packaged chocolate on the shelves. Chocolate you can buy anywhere for much less. No free tastings. No cooking display or classes. Save your waistline for the chocolatiers in Victoria (they’re way more fun). The neck … doesn’t feel like a wild drive across a narrow spit because one side is always high. Lighthouse - you need a park’s pass at about $50 … could be some nice walking … but we didn’t have one so … sigh. Food - meh. Really - not one place to write home about. We ate at the Bruny hotel - had to send one dish back. Tables full of tourists. No energy. Scenery is ok. There are hundreds of more beautiful places in tazzie though. Seriously. Hundreds. Back to tour buses … lots … lots … every place is full of tourists. I guess …. it’s kind of … a nice day trip if you have nothing else to do. Like nothing else.Written 10 December 2024

Easy does it!
After years of umming and ahhing over whether to do Bruny Island (it looked so beautiful but also so very touristy), we finally decided to visit as part of an organised tour.
We chose Bruny Island Safaris as it had good reviews, packed a lot into the day tour, but equally looked like a hassle free day out. It sure was!
After our 7am pick up from the Tasmania Travel Information Centre in Hobart on a 16 (?) seater minibus our driver and guide David explained the plan for the day while driving to Kettering for the ferry to Bruny Island. Along the way he told us about the history of the area and pointed out various sights. We visited at one of the busiest times of the year, and if visiting (as part of a tour or self drive), it's worth noting the limited facilities on the island, and how busy the popular spots get at peak times. They said, our itinerary was well planned, with some pre-arranged stops from pick up fresh local produce and times visits up the lighthouse.
Highlights:
We walked up the top of the Truganini Lookout (over 200 steps) at Bruny Island Neck, with Instagram worthy views over the island.
We stopped at the Bread fridge (it's a real people magnet!).
We had morning tea - with fresh local oysters and cheese - at Alonnah Pontoon.
We climbed up the lighthouse (70 steps) and enjoyed the most spectacular views across Bruny Island and across the Channel, and to the Tasman Peninsula.
We had a tasty hot lunch at the Bruny Island Hotel.
We sampled local chocolates and honey.
And not to forget: David's corny jokes along the way! :)
Throughout the day David ensured we were comfortable, well looked after, and told us more about the history of the various places.
We returned to Hobart around 5pm (things depend a little on ferry traffic).
It was a thoroughly enjoyable day out, absolutely hassle free, and jam packed with sights and experiences. I'd highly recommend this tour if you're looking to visit Bruny Island, especially if you have limited time, or are unsure about exploring the island by yourself.

The Bruny Island day tour with lunch and food samples included was a wonderful experience and good value. You could not do it yourself for the same time, price and logistical nightmare of taking the ferry and navigating the roads yourself.
We started with stopping at numerous locations to pick up the oysters at the drive thru seafood store, cheese store and bakery for our wine a cheese sampling near the beach. Lunch was a local restaurant featuring a variety of seafood, fish and burgers. The further most point of the tour at the light house area was very picturesque and we were lucky enough to take a tour and climb to the top of the lighthouse with spectacular views. We visited a number of boutique vendors selling chocolate, whiskey, honey, arts and crafts with lots of opportunities to buy souvenirs.
We saw the location of where Captain Cook first landed on Bruney Island and have included a picture of the commemorative stone and a drawing of the event. The landscape and the gum tree still exists after 300 years.
This trip was very much a highlight of our trip to Tasmania and I highly recommend it.

Went on the tour to Bruny island today with Bruny Island Safari's and it was amazing! My mom had an amazing time which was very important to me as this is her first visit to Australia. (She mentioned an hour into the tour how happy she was with the tour we had chosen) The views were spectacular and it came in very handy to have a guide who is a local to the island and has many interesting things to tell about the island. Definitely worth booking this one over the budget one, 10/10 recommend as it's so worth the money, we had many privileges on the island and never had to wait in a cue which would've taken time off our time on the island + the local guide knew where and when to go and as my mum said was just a "lovely Australian character"

Top marks to our driver and tour guide Dave. The weather on our day trip wasn't the best but Dave's knowledge of the island, it's weather patterns and its locations made it a truly enjoyable day. Such are the joys of taking a Bruny Island Safari in the middle of winter in southern Tasmania. We started of our tour at Bruny Island Honey tasting the local honeys and purchasing some of the delights to enjoy at home. Our small group then became close friends as we huddled under a covered picnic area watching the rain. Our comradery grew as we feasted on (Get Shucked) oysters plucked fresh from the sea only hours before as well as a selection of Bruny island cheeses and crusty bread. While Tea and Coffee were on offer, I chose a piping hot chocolate to warm myself against the cold. After this wonderful repass, we enjoyed a leisurely drive around the island as Dave pointed out the highlights, spoke of the history and practiced his dad jokes. The highlights for me were The Neck Lookout and the Bruny Island Lighthouse, though be aware that both of these require a moderate level of fitness to ascend and enjoy the full experience. Of course, the food was amazing, with a hearty lunch at Hotel Bruny, tastings at The Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co, and Bruny Island Chocolates and Fudge. If you go home hungry after this tour you only have yourself to blame. Highly recommended regardless of the weather.

Wow - wonderful review thank you. Some say the best time to visit Bruny Island is on a wet day as that's when the magic happens. So many amazing locations and things to see. I very much enjoy taking our guests down to the island.
Don't forget to mention the highlight of the Day was the 'Lighthouse'...... ;-)

I expected something a little more. Itenary sells the tour well, a little too well.
I somehow thought we’d actually visit get shucked and be able to buy some oysters - in my case I’m not a fan of raw oysters. Wifey and I only eat oysters Kirkpatrick . Anyway, the visit to get shucked turned out to be our driver jumping out and grabbing some oysters 3 per person and putting them in an Eski to eat later. Cooked oysters were not an option. If you love fresh oysters you will be in heaven . I had one and despite not liking raw oysters I even liked it.
The driver on our trip was quite knowledgeable about the area and tried his best but we all felt like he was a retired rally car driver. Half the bus were talking throughout the tour about how incredibly fast he drove. I honestly think the tour has too much in the itenary and it’s simply not possible in the timeframes allocated . Some of the items advertised ended up being a drive by and not a visit. Too rushed. I highly recommend that they cut down on the attractions so it’s not soo rushed / driver feels like he needs to be Colin McRae ( rally car champ from years back )
The driver/ tour guide was really friendly. The operators really should give him a mike, at times it was tough to hear what he was saying.
The lighthouse tour was really awesome. We really enjoyed that!
Overall it was a good tour but way too rushed.

David took us to Bruny Island today and what a great day. He was such a great guide, not only is he knowledgeable but he never made us feel rushed even though we stopped at a lot of different places. The whole experience was worth every cent so I highly recommend you do the full day tour with food. By the end of the day we were all tired and Dave went the extra mile by dropping us off at our hotel, even though he picked us up at the harbour, so a huge thank you and shout out to Dave.
Thanks again for a great experience

After waking up to a view of a windswept & snow covered Mount Wellington my wife & I thought our first adventure in Tasmania would be interesting & we were right. From stepping on to our tour bus pickup just outside our hotel, we were greeted by our driver & tour guide Rick. Being winter our trip consisted of only 14 passengers. From start to finish Rick’s commentary throughout the tour was amazing with all the historical, current & amazing facts on all of the people & places we past & visited in this 10 hour tour. On this day we experienced all weather conditions, sunny periods, rain, wind, sleet & even hail @ times, but we loved it. Although a few places were closed most businesses were open. Our morning tea food stop of fresh oysters & cheese that rick collected along the way was great sampling of local fresh produce, but our lunch @ the Bruny Island Hotel in front of the open fire was a warm welcome after visiting the lighthouse way up on the hill. The Bruny Island Safaris are a must do tour on anyone’s itinerary journey of Tasmania. Highly recommended

Rick, our tour guide was an amazing encyclopaedia of local knowledge. We reviewed various tour operators and decided to go with Bruny island safari tours as they had great reviews. if you want a small group ( up to 13 people) in a small and comfortable bus then this is for you. The scenery was amazing, we had lots of stops without being rushed at any venue. The morning nibbles of Bruny island fresh oysters were divine . Added to that we had a range of local cheeses on crusty local wood fired sourdough bread. Resolution point in the background , made it a superb setting that no where else I have been too compares.
The lighthouse walk was absolutely beautiful and with Rick’s botanical knowledge a taste of the local lemonade bush berries were a treat.
Lunch at the local cafe of a seafood platter, presented the most tender calamari I have ever tasted. Off to the local fudge tasting next. The husband couldn’t help himself and about $100 poorer , we have a whiskey souvenir of Bruny Island whisky.
Local honey tasting and more beautiful scenery. We got dropped off at our hotel at about 5pm, safe and sound. Truly a wonderful tour that is worth every penny. Go quality and you will not regret it.
The group of people we travelled with were very nice, not a painful person on the bus. Rick was a great tour guide, cannot rate him high enough. Lots of entertaining stories.
Thanks Rick for a great day, we were the Sandgropers from the west that sat behind you all the day. i did say I would write a review.

Amazing tour. We visited the main spots of Bruny Island and we tasted the typical Tasmanian food of high quality (with a description of each product).
The guide sparked interest through curious facts and jokes, we had an enjoyable time. Thanks Craig!!
We highly recommend a day trip with Bruny Island Safari because even if it appears more expensive than other tours, here it’s all inclusive!!

Craig says "Your welcome".
Our tour is all inclusive - Honey, Chocolate, Tea/Coffee/milo, Oysters, Cheese, fresh oven baked bread, fully cooked lunch at Bruny Island Hotel, On board biscuits and water. You will not go hungry on this tour. and most people miss the evening meal after we drop them off.

What an incredible day with David! One word sums him up—brilliance! He’s warm, patient, jovial, has an excellent sense of humor, and is immensely knowledgeable. To top it all off, he's a great chef—a complete package blending all the best qualities of hospitality. And by the way, he's an engineer by qualification!
Despite the wind reaching a fierce 67 km/h at the Bruny Island lookout point, David ensured that we ascended safely. The sweetest part was when he prepared breakfast for all of us, and his selection of cheeses was simply mind-blowing. His detailed explanations of the lighthouse's functioning and the 70-step climb inside were invaluable, helping us navigate every step with caution.
Adding to his humor was the way he had us count the number of wallabies on both sides of the road during our ride across Bruny Island. Thanks to him, we also visited some exclusive chocolate, cheese, and honey stores that are unique to Bruny Island. Although the weather wasn’t ideal, David made the day truly unforgettable. He is a gem of a person.
By the way- the lunch was awesome. Couldn’t wish for more when you get awesome vegetarian food and that too super delicious ones. It’s a 10/10 score. Thanks David

Do you pick up from the Cruise Ship Terminal? If so, what time (the ship docks at 7am)?
Could you do 2 different pick-ups for our group (hotel and ship)?
Is everything listed on you page included in the price?
If we wanted to do the whiskey tasting, could we pay at the site?

Do you require mandatory face mask on throughout travelling time, to mitigate Covid exposure, particularly noting everyone will be in enclosed vehicle for many travelling hours?

We did require mandatory mask wearing on the bus. But we did this trip last April, not sure if this is still the case now.

Hi, you would need to call the company, I am a visitor who went on this great tour. We got collected from our hotel in Hobart but I'm sure you could meet them at the ferry

How long is is the ferry trip across? Just want to know how long I would be on the ferry each way? Is it a smooth sail or can it be choppy?

I notice you charge $146 ea
Or $292 for two people.
Why then does the booking want authority to charge $400?
Thank you

Call the company’s phone number. They are very helpful. I did the same to find out my pickup point and possibility of different drop off location after the trip. I hope this help.
