About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Aslanda240 contributionsLong day but worthwhile. As with previous comments, have to say it was a very long day. We left the hotel at 06h05 but didn’t catch the ferry until 09h00. The time on the island involved a great deal of driving ( the island is over 100km long!) but the stops were interesting. Lunch was mediocre. Caught the 19h30 ferry back and arrived back to the hotel at 22h00. Worth doing, if only to stroke a kangaroo and koala.Written 10 December 2024
- karinwO4517YE0 contributionsBest 1 day tour ever! The whole island is just amazing. Best 1 day trip ever! Remarkable Rocks and Admiral's Arch were highlights. Loved the whole trip - everything. Well organised and a great driver/tour guide on the island, also great drivers from and to Adelaide. Highly recommend!Written 6 December 2024
- lindabC4648OZ0 contributionsComfortable crossing, spacious boat across to islandNice crossing, be better when work on the port is completed. Comfortable seating and plenty of it for the passengers. Food and drinks available… the staff organising the cars/trucks etc on the boat are amazing! So organised…Written 3 December 2024
- cjauff0 contributionsLong Day with many delays and a reduced scheduleDue to weather, our original tour was cancelled the day of – that’s fine, these things happen and we were aware of the possibility. However, there were no texts/calls/emails – we were informed by the driver on pick up. This is similar to other reviewers. This is the equivalent of a carrier pigeon – it’s 2024, certainly this could have been handled better. We had one more day in Adelaide and decided to try again. The next day, we were picked up on time at our hotel. After a few more hotel and bus station pickups we were off on a scenic drive to Cape Jervis. Shortly before arriving, the driver told us the ferry was running late – it turns out that one of the ferries was out of service due to a mechanical issue. We arrived at the ferry terminal at 8:30am for a scheduled ferry at 9am – the next ferry did not arrive until after 10am. There were no display boards in the terminal with arrival/departure status – and the staff there had no idea either. It was like being in a bus station in 1992. Overcrowded and zero information. It ended up being a 2+ hour wait before even boarding the ferry. The unloading and loading was not fast, and this ferry did not leave until nearly 11am, which means we arrived on Kangaroo after 12pm – cutting more than 2 hours off the day. After arriving at Kangaroo Island, all Sealink bus tour passengers had to approach a driver for instructions as to which bus to board – adding more time (surely this could be handled better). Once the very full tour bus finally loaded, we were off. We were informed due to the late arrival that Sealink would have to adjust the itinerary on the island (again, this was noted in the terms and conditions – fine). What I take issue with is how that schedule was adjusted. We ended up going to Seal Bay conservation park first. There were two options – a guided tour on the beach for those who were physically able, and a self-guided boardwalk tour which was less physical. We opted for the beach tour, which was no problem for us. However, a number of people were not suited to this opted to join (i.e. physically unable due to age, etc. , or those with small children and strollers) which just slowed down the entire stop. Then it was off to lunch, which was nice but again quite slow due to a number of people who did not inform the tour (despite many, many, many opportunities to do so) regarding dietary restrictions – again this slowed things down. Due to time, the stop at Kangaroo Island Wildlife park was removed from the schedule. We then travelled to Flinders Chase National Park to see the Admirals Arch and Remarkable rocks. Admirals Arch was loaded with seals again. So despite visiting Kangaroo Island, the only Kangaroos we were able to see were either off in the distance while driving 100km/h on the bus or dead along the side of the road. My preference would have been to scrap the Seal Bay visit in favour of the wildlife park – and at least would been more varied. Sealink certainly would have factored the price of the wildlife park admission into the tour ticket – this represents value not given to the tour purchaser. I say this because at the Seal Bay stop, they had to count the number of passengers to charge accordingly. It’s Kangaroo Island, not Seal Island, this was a poor choice in itinerary change, especially given there are ample opportunities to see seals at the other stops. Shout out to the driver, Dave, who did an amazing job on a tight schedule. He kept us well informed about the island all through the day. He was a highlight of the tour for sure. We arrived back to Penneshaw for the 7:30pm return ferry at 7pm. It was also delayed as the ferry that runs at 7:30pm was the one that was out of service (same as the 9am one). Again, stuck waiting for 2.5 hours in the ferry terminal with zero information and not nearly enough seats. Shout out to the lady running the snack bar, she worked her butt off serving a huge crowd for hours and did a great job despite being new. Once the ferry finally arrived and was ready to leave again it was 10pm – so we didn’t get back to Cape Jervis until 11pm – this meant a 1am drop off at the hotel. It ended up being a 19 hour day, with only 5 hours of that being active on KI. Given that Sealink controls all aspects of this tour, I would have expected better adjusted logistics. Booking with a full service tour was part of the calculus – we could have rented car, taken the ferry, etc. – this was supposed to make my day easier – it was absolutely not. They could have done a later pick up (the ferry mechanical issues were known the day before according to their website) and avoided the long wait in the morning at Cape Jervis. They could adjusted the day better on KI or provided a better dinner option given they knew the ferry would be late to return. Given the high cost of this tour ($373 AUD per person) – I’m not sure this was worth it. Bad weather happens, mechanical issues happen and we understand that – however, the logistics of the adjustments could have been handled much better. Investing in some technology for display screens, text messaging, or even ferry status on the website would be useful. I’m sure this type of thing has happened before, this can’t have been a one off event – there should be a better playbook to handle these types of situations. They also could have informed us ahead of the day that there were be significant delays and a reduced schedule on KI and allowed for cancellations, or frankly they should have just cancelled the tour again. We absolutely regret going and it was a brutally long day for our last day in Adelaide. If I had to do it over again, I would have flown to KI, rented a car myself and stayed overnight. Full disclosure to others looking to book this tour – you’re likely stuck with many of the same people that board the bus with you at 6am –on the ferry to/from and on the bus tour for the entire day. If some of them are completely intolerable (like some were on our tour), it makes for an extremely long day.Written 30 November 2024
- danielleo7160 contributionsLower all expectationsThis is not a well coordination tourism service. This is a little rural town having a go. Do not expect a timetable or communication regarding service times. After a service was cancelled for weather, there was no increased services to catch up on demand, no communication regarding next sailing times and in fact it seemed no insight that this is an inconvenience or problem at all that should trigger some planned increase to capacity. This is not a tourism service to be proud of but it does seem this is the best they can do.Written 27 November 2024
- Aarthi S0 contributionsAll day Kangaroo Island TourAlthough it’s a lot packed in a day it’s the best way to see Kangaroo Island. Bus picks you up, 1.5 hours to the ferry terminal then takes you to kangaroo island where another tour bus is waiting to show you all the sights. Price includes a delicious lunch, ferry tickets and drop off and pick ups from Adelaide. Really worth it. Travelled with my elderly Mum who thoroughly enjoyed it. Just one pet peeve- please reduce the air conditioning on the bus! Apart from that all tour guides were fantastic!Written 26 November 2024

Whether you’re visiting for the wildlife, pristine beaches, or local food and wine, the ferry ride is the perfect introduction to this unique destination. - Trek636913418480 contributionsAwesome dayAn amazing (very long) day with many awe-inspiring sights -- from wild koala and sea lions -- and unique sensations such as petting and feeding a live kangaroo and smelling tea-tree-laden sea air! Dave also provided lots of interesting facts about the wildlife, history of the island and the blue gum tree plantations.Written 20 November 2024
- BobnBarbD0 contributionsGreat week on KI - AGAIN !!!The ferries were busy but the staff were calm and very helpful as usual. We had a really nice time on KI. Very relaxing and the locals are so friendly. Standout place was Stokes Bay through the rock tunnel. I've been there a few times but my daughter saw it for the first time. She was very impressed. The cafe on the first beach had a delicious lunch as well. Fished off the Kingscote jetty and caught a large flathead and a big King George whiting as well as a couple of other keepers, which gave us 2 meals each. We stayed in Penneshaw and can recommend the location for a most relaxing stay.Written 20 November 2024
- Adelaide-560 contributionsEasy way to bring your car to and from Kangaroo IslandFerries ran on time with easy loading and unloading of our vehicle with driver and passenger. I am glad to learn that new ferries are on the way because the current ferries are extremely dated inside and past their use by date from the aesthetics perspective. I hope that the new ferries and terminals don't lead to a big hike in prices.Written 19 November 2024
- 283anneliseb0 contributionsA long but enjoyable dayWhat a long day but so much packed into it and beautiful scenery. We were picked up in a bus form a nearby hotel to our accommodation - the bus was only a mini bus so we were very cramped and tight with knees hard against the seat and other having to sit on the wheel hub, so this was not very comfortable at all... Arrived at the bus depot and then transferred into a larger bus, much more comfortable but there was no toilet on the bus... Driven to the boat terminal through beautiful Adelaide Hill senary, enough time for a toilet stop before boarding the boat. A boat ride for 30 + minutes and then on KI and meet with another big bus with no toliet on board. The driver gave commentary for most of the trip which was very interesting and informative. First stop was the seals - sold as a walk on the beach with the seals - but could only go with the ranger and it was only a few steps on the beach, so possibly worded wrong and misleading - but still it was good to see them up close. We then stopped at the Parndana township and the local pub for the meal of fish and chips and strudel which was very nice. We then boarded the bus and went to the wildlife park - being Australians we didn't think it would be as exciting but pleasantly surprised, what a lot of animals there was .. KI kangaroos, pelicans, koalas, dingos, birds.. We then made our way to Admirals arch, a walk down and steps involved (a workout) but you have 1/2 hour here to explore so no need to rush but well worth that workout. The onto the remarkable rocks, WOW amazing... Then the trip back to the boat terminal and meet on the other side with the bus and dropped back where out journey started 16 hours before. There were toilet stops along the way and the driver told us which attraction had toilet stops and which didn't - so no need to worry re that.. I suggest you pack a drink and if inclined some snacks for the bus trip. An enjoyable day seeing the island animals and sceneryWritten 19 November 2024
- Cindy B0 contributionsNature at its best.We took the ferry for a three day family holiday with one young child. We explored the whole island. The ferry ride was lots of fun. On the return ferry ride they accommodated us with an earlier return with no problem. Staff was very friendly and professional. Would highly recommend the ferry ride and a visit to kangaroo Island. It was beautiful!Written 18 November 2024
- longhaven0 contributionsVisiting Kangaroo Island by ferry is simple and provides a great experience for locals and visitors alikeThe whole Sealink experience was seamless--from the moment i made my bookings on line the company kept me informed and up to date. We were lucky that both days we travelled the weather was great and the seas calm. Boarding the ferry was easy for me as the driver of the car and my wife and friend had no problems with the passenger boarding experience. All staff were pleasant and helpful and those on the vehicle deck made boarding and exiting easy.Written 14 November 2024

The bad: We couldn't get picked up from our hotel even though it's on 1 of the main streets. So, we had to make our own way down to the bus terminal at 6 am in the morning. On ticket it's says to check in to sightseeing tour desk by 6.15am, but there is no one at all in the terminal except for the poor homeless men trying to get out of the cold weather. A bus driver showed up told us to wait at bay 3 for KI tours so we did, turns out bus pulls up outside on street so went to this bus driver, he gave us tickets and told us to not sit in the front seats. Driver did not speak the whole 1.5hrs to the ferry terminal, once driving into the terminal he did not speak into a microphone but said toilets are on the left put your luggage into the white van on the right and go through glass doors. When I hopped off, I asked the driver if we were walking on the ferry, which he rudely said. " As I said on the bus, go through the glass doors," nothing further. I told him he was rude and went through the glass doors in hopes a guide was waiting, Nope. Lined up in check-in to be told I could use the ticket originally given by bus driver to just walk on ferry for the 45-minute ride, and we'd be met by our guide over on the island. Thankyou finally that's all I needed to know. 1st bus driver should not be in a job with people, I feel bad for the people who didn't speak much English as there was very poor communication indeed. Bad way to start any day, especially such a long day returning to CBD approx 10pm that night.
The lunch was average and quite rushed to stay on time.
The good: Dani, our driver on KI was a local and so very friendly and knowledgeable, making the whole tour enjoyable. The island itself is well worth the trip, the wildlife in particular. The final bus driver back to CBD was very friendly and explained some of the lights and location we were seeing, pointing out things on the way.

Fairly average overall - think your typical wine tour - just with a lot more driving.
The driver was incredibly knowledgeable and had a clear passion that was the real winner.
The trip was more of a pushto buy from the local producers and less about seeing and exploring the islands natural beauty.
More visits to the natural wonders if the island would of been great. There were only two stops to see the islands beauty - one was a beach stop that was 5 minutes to just take photos of a beach, the second was a valley that seemed to be an after thought place just outside of the ferry return location.
If you are going to do the island, do it over multiple days and don’t cram it into this one day tour. Just not worth it.

Prepare for an early rise, as the journey to Kangaroo Island begins well before dawn from Adelaide. The drive to Cape Jervis offers a splendid sunrise view before boarding the ferry. Our driver provided engaging commentary and even paused to allow us a glimpse of kangaroos in the fields. The ferry ride was seamless, setting the stage for our exploration of the island at Penneshaw. The highlight at Raptor Domain was the interactive Birds of Prey show, offering an up-close view of these splendid raptors. Lunch at Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery was enjoyable, coupled with an informative tour on eucalyptus oil extraction, unique to the island. At Cliffords Honey Farm, we indulged in delicious ice cream and discovered the exclusive Ligurian honeybee found only here. A brief photo stop at Pennington Bay preceded our visit to False Cape Wine Cellar, where a variety of wines were savoured (though a palate cleanser between tastings would have been ideal). The day concluded with a return ferry to Penneshaw and a bus ride back to Adelaide, arriving around 22:00. It was a fulfilling, albeit lengthy, day, so consider resting well if you plan multiple tours during your stay in Adelaide.

After much consideration, we picked this tour because it offered a great way to get around the island without disrupting our pre booked accommodation. It’s an early start – 6:15 am pickup from the hotel and drop off at well past eleven pm in our case, but the early start was well worth it. A very pleasant bus drive from Adelaide down to Cape Jervis, where we caught the ferry to Penneshaw.
The highlight of the day (for me) had to be the Raptor Sanctuary. It was a terrific show, with the bird handlers showing off their highly intelligent and well trained charges, who seemed to enjoy the show (and the treats) as much as the audience did!
Other visits included the Eucalyptus Oil Factory, the Honey Farm with many great products on offer – don’t miss their honey icecream! - and the False Cape Winery. The winery tasting was well organized, ran very smoothly and had some lovely wines on offer. Sadly, no sparkling wine is made there.
Must mention our bus driver Adam who took us around the island, seemed to know everybody and had a wealth of information available on everything to do with the Island. He was a great Shepherd of Lost Sheep, assuring us that (a) he knew which bar we were in and (b) he wouldn’t leave without us!

Thank you so much for this wonderful review, HenknAnnie!
We are so happy to hear you had a great experience on the One Day Kangaroo Island Sip & See tour with Adam. Joining one of our tours makes visiting the island much easier - all the hard work is taken care of and, as you know, you get to enjoy the very best of KI with one of our expert guides.
We hope you made some amazing memories of your time on the island, and we hope to welcome you back another time in the future.

It was a full packed Itinerary for the day. Everything went smoothly, tour guides and drivers were all professional.
There was a little episode where our original guide was confirmed as a close contact mid way through the tour, but it was all managed very smoothly, a replacement guide stepped in, masks and sanitizers in use all through the tour.
The Raptor Domain was particularly Impressive. Lunch was average, but had to queue a long time for drinks, service was very slow.
Wine tasting was also in a beautiful setting. All in all the tour was a reasonable experience, just a very long day 6am to 10:30pm from pick up to drop off.
Also need to be prepared that the sea might be rough.

From pick up to first experience was 4+ hours. Our driver was late and provided no apology. We were left standing on a street corner @ 06.15hrs. En route we stopped at different locations to pick up supplies for ferry company eg., magazines and cakes for the ferry’s cafe! This added to an already long transfer time. Upon arrival on Kangaroo Island we were met by an enthusiastic guide Di. Without her on the tour it would have been disastrous! We set off to our first location BUT en route we had yet to pick up other passengers who had spent the previous day/night on the island. Due to their late arrival we missed the start of our bird experience @ 11.30 hrs. Bearing in mind that this tour commenced @ 06:40 hrs. Nevertheless the bird experience was informative and entertaining. The remaining 3 locations Eucalyptus farm, Honey farm and wine tasting were very basic and designed to sell their produce. On the equally long journey back to Adelaide a further delay was experienced due to the pick up of SeaLink’s post!! Arrival back at our hotel 23:00 hrs.

Dear 634yvettem,
Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your one day tour.
We are sorry to learn some aspects of the tour did not meet your expectations. Kangaroo Island is quite large and we highly recommend a few days to get around to all the main attractions. However, for travellers who only have a day, the one day tour covers a lot of ground and visits most of the main attractions the island is so famous for, and we appreciate the travel time required to get to and from the island, given its distance from Adelaide, does make for a long day.
Thank you for your kind words about our Tour Guide Di. We are very lucky to have such enthusiastic Guides. They really make the experience!
On behalf of us all, we hope to see you back on Kangaroo Island again one day.
Kind regards Blaire from SeaLink.

This was a great tour experience we had with Sealink. The day tour itinerary was well planned, and the thorough introduction from local tour guide and driver Scott definitely added more highlights. The two-course lunch venue was modern and clean, and the food was delicious. The Koala Wildlife Park is definitely worth visiting. Everyone had the opportunity to encounter the kangaroos, and you could even do a koala holding experience.
Overall, it was a great experience that shouldn't be missed. The island is recovering well from the bushfire, and we already look forward to bringing our international clients for the next visit.

We are so glad you enjoyed our One Day Kangaroo Island Experience Day Tour with Scott and that you felt we did a good job of organising the tour. We have a carefully curated itinerary and certainly a lot of effort goes into arranging the tour on the island. Our team will be pleased to receive this feedback.
We look forward to welcoming you and your international clients on another tour soon!

The day started well with an excellent bus trip to the ferry. Ferry ride was superb as weather conditions were outstanding. The Raptor Domain was well worth the visit and interacting with the birds was beautiful. Scotty, our tour guide provided non-stop commentary and had terrific knowledge to share about the island. The visit to the Eucalyptus distillery, where we also had lunch, was probably the lowlight of the day. Our lunch was below average and very disappointing. One staff member serving food was off-putting and lacked hospitality. The visits to the Honey Farm and False Cape winery were excellent in comparison. Both these venues were run professionally and were educational. The wine was excellent and the honey farm products superb. Dinner, at our own expense was had at The Shy Wren and the food was superb. As our ferry was delayed by some time, we waited at the Penneshaw Pub, which was lovely. It’s a long day, starting at 6:15am and we made it back to our hotel at 11:10pm, but it was enjoyable. I would strongly encourage the tour operator to assess the lunch menu provided as part of the tour. I would also suggest to participants to take snacks for the journey.

Despite the length of the day, it was brimming with engaging activities and captivating sights. The tour guide, well-versed in Kangaroo Island's nuances, was not only friendly but also incredibly informative. His extensive knowledge added depth to the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

Beautiful day, many discoveries, the tour is very varied and complete: (landscapes, animals, buildings, ...). The driver/guide Chris extraordinary (anecdotes, explanations, draw attention to things to see,...) and excellent driver, fast and safe, in order to keep a very tight schedule.
More relax on 2 days but otherwise this tour is really worth it!!

Thank you for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear you enjoyed the variety of experiences and discoveries on our tour and that Chris made the day even more memorable with his knowledge and guidance. The 2-day Ultimate Kangaroo Island tour does allow for a more relaxed pace, but we're so pleased to know you found the 1-day tour well worth it!
We hope to welcome you back on another SeaLink tour again soon.
