About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- alandocherty860 contributionsDocs from Perth hit the McLaren Valley SouthYvette with a Y was our driver/tour guide, great sense of humour and very knowledgable on the area. Good number of wineries to choose from. All round great service and enjoyable day had.Written 15 January 2025
- A2512TVsarahp0 contributionsFantastic day outGreat to be able to choose your own wineries and not have to do tastings with a whole bus group. Would recommend Beach Road for a lunch stop. Our driver was lovely and very informative.Written 7 January 2025
- jonbrannigan0 contributionsHop on hop off Baroosa winery tour7 of us went - very excellent. 3 from England, the others from South Australia We chose from an extensive list of wineries to visit that suited us; ones we hadn't visited previously. I think it would take years or be impossible to try to do a wine tasting at all the wineries in the Barossa. That's apart from all the other wineries in South Australia!!! All in we had 3 stops, the last tasting being extended by a tapas lunch at First Drop Wines, the home of Mother's Milk red, although I preferred the Mother's Ruin amongst the extended list of wines we sampled. That was a 2 hour stop. A great day, all together without having a designated driver. The pickup and dropoff point was centrally located near the Adelaide railway station - so a cleansing ale was availed of in The Guardsman bar in the railway station before catching a train home.Written 5 January 2025

His sense of humor added a fun and lively touch to the experience, making it even more enjoyable. The bus was comfortable, even on the hot day.Written 22 December 2024
- Mayaguy090 contributionsPretty good, but….We did the fixed itinerary tour with pre selected wineries and lunch included. Mixed bag - we loved the first winery (Rusden), thought the second was ok but a little too commercial. But the big disappointment was the third - we were supposed to visit Yalumba, which looked very promising but the driver told us we couldn’t stop there due to a private function, and instead took us to First Drop, which was nothing more than a non-descript tasting room in a shopping mall that was not like visiting a winery at all - just a company that produces wine in an industrial looking setting from grapes sourced from all over the region. Aside from lack of any atmosphere the wine was very mediocre. Things picked up at the last stop - Kaesler - where we were able to try some excellent wines right in their very pleasant tasting room among the vineyards. So basically an ok day with one big disappointment - they should have made better arrangements when Yalumba became unavailable and probably shouldn’t include First Drop at all on their list as it’s not what most people think of when contemplating a winery tour.Written 22 December 2024
- Kristy M0 contributionsGood on paper, not in practice. We had high expectations for The Experience Tour with Trail Hopper, especially since a friend had previously used them for the Hop on and Off Option. Unfortunately, our tour was marred by a driver who was overly strict about timing. While the vineyards were delightful and attentive, our driver became negative when we informed him of a slight delay, despite others arriving later without issue. He claimed to be just the driver, yet the winery staff suggested he was the owner. Overall, the service seemed promising on paper but fell short in execution. I wouldn’t recommend this tour based on our experience, as realistically 60mins is a short window to enjoy a selection of wines and the ambience to do justice to the relaxed vibes of the wide range of cellar doors in the region.Written 20 December 2024

- Helen B0 contributionsFantastic paced tourLoved the small bus group size, although the bus that we were on had a couple of “booster” seats that were not conducive for adults to sit on. Our driver was very well informed and had us all sorted before we left. We didn’t leave until 10 minutes after 10, but we made up time, so thank you!Written 25 November 2024

We have been on dozens of traditional wine tours in a lot of places around the world. We thought we'd do something different this time in the Barossa and try the Hop on Hop off with Trail Hopper, hoping to spend less time visiting stops that were of little interest to us (i.e. shopping or chocolate factories), and not killing 2 hours at a lunch stop eating pre-selected food. Our pick up was right on schedule, and the bus was quite full. The hour transfer out to Tanunda was well utilized by our very knowledgeable driver and guide, Nathan. He gave us a very thorough run down on how the day worked, what the best options were to utilize our time and how to manage the schedule effectively. Nathan also did a great analysis of the wineries on the list giving us a definite advantage when choosing which places to stop at and what to try and taste at each place.
We opted to maximize the 4 stop schedule and skip lunch (we brought our own with us, to minimize the amount of time we'd be waiting on service). We were blown away by the tastings, the knowledge of the tasting room staff, the wine served, and the overall experiences we had during our stops. Nathan was right on time at every location, I'm not sure how he manages to juggle all of the people in multiple places throughout the day, but it was quite amazing.
I thought we might be treated a bit second class in the tasting rooms, not being part of an organized tour group, but that was not the case at all. In fact being associated with Trail Hopper eliminated the tasting fees and gave us certain discounts at some of the wineries. And because the value of the hop on hop off was so good (especially compared to some of the tours out there), we bought wine at every winery we went to. Spending the money between the service and the product, makes the most sense, and made for a very enjoyable day.

If you're looking for a lovely day around the Barossa wine region, take this tour. You'll have up to four options among many fantastic wineries over the course of the day. Lawrence was our friendly and helpful guide/driver who managed the journeys of all the little groups on his bus flawlessly. We all got on and off the bus wherever we pleased and he was right there to collect us for the next destination on time exactly to the minute, and even kept our purchases organized until we departed at the end of the day. Often the wineries included on bus tours are the lower-end places, but absolutely not the case here. Highly recommend!

Travelling from Adelaide to the Barossa Valley can be expensive but I was fortunate to discover Trail Hopper tours. If you're an NRMA member you can also get a discount. The tours are an excellent way to visit different wine regions outside of Adelaide with the bus picking you up in Adelaide and then runs on a loop once in the region, in this case the Barossa, visiting different stops. Nathan was our bus driver and quasi tour guide, a very friendly and welcoming person who gave us plenty of info along the way, tips, and suggestions. Thanks so much for looking after us, you were awesome!
There's a timetable to follow so you can plan to spend 4 x 1hr visits at different wineries, or go rogue as I did and catch a taxi to different places not visited on the tour. Being a foodie I visited the Barossa Valley Chocolate Factory, Maggie Beer's Farm House and Eatery, Tanunda and Nurioopta town centers, Steiny's Mettwurst before joining back on the bus for the return trip to Adelaide.
Comfortable air-conditioned bus, water is provided, certainly recommended and you don't need to worry about being a designated driver as it's all taken care of. You can also buy wine along the way and store it on the bus for safe keeping as some people did. Multiple tours booked with the company can also earn discounts like the coffee stamp concept.

This is the best way to visit the Barossa Valley. You can sit back and enjoy the scenery, the wine and taste the delicious local produce while Lawrence, our informative driver, kept an excellent schedule enabling us to visit a number of great locations. The selection of wineries to visit was fabulous. Our favourite was Lambert Estate Wines where the wine and food platter were outstanding.
We highly recommend Hop-on Hop-off Barossa Valley tours.

Our group had a fantastic time on the Trail Hopper Barossa winery tour. Monique was a fantastic host, telling us about the history of the winery's we've visited, giving us hints to enjoy the day to the maximum and being On time at every pickup. Ready for the next one :)

Every visitor to Adelaide should treat themselves to the sights, sounds and exceptional tastes to be celebrated within the Barossa Valley. This inventive and exquisitely orchestrated day allows for independent choice of any 4 of the 12 stops, allowing for an hour at each stop, which was a perfect amount of time.
Yvette, our guide for the day was informative, entertaining, provided expectations with clarity and clearly loves introducing others to the history, charms, wines and unique character that the region has to offer. She exudes a passion for her responsibilities and a refreshing commitment to ensure that each guest has a great experience.
As someone who owns a restaurant near the Napa Valley, I was blown away by the cost effectiveness of the wine tastings (all between $6 and $14 US Dollars, excluding library tastings) combined with the quality of the experience. We could linger with the expert guidance of each purveyor informing us as to the nuances of each wine.
From our four choices I highly recommend Rusden as the best wines for the price point with $6.70 US tastings of 6 to 8 wines with credit given for bottles purchased. For us the Chookshed and the Chenin Blanc were both purchase worthy.
I would also recommend Yolumba, with its rich history, impressive selection of either red flights or white flights.
You see and experience so much more and receive so much more in value with the experienced, caring, interactive, informative and professional guides from this service. Thank you, Yvette, for an unforgettably amazing journey to, from and through the Barossa Valley.

This tour was the perfect solution for us. Being based in Adelaide CBD we were picked up from right across the road! The tour guide / driver Nate was just amazing, he stepped us through everything, was helpful and engaging and knew so much about the region and wineries. We ended up having the best day and the flexibility to hop on and hop off at the different stops really suited us. I absolutely recommend this as a great way to experience the Barossa with lots of flexibility. Thank-you !!!

Hi Jack and Jo here, we are writing on behalf of our whole bus tour because they are lazy, there are 7 of us so you must take this as 7 seperate reviews.
MONIQUE Is a lovely, happy, friendly tour guide. Like many other reviews we had this as a last option as every other tour was booked out, but we are far from disappointed, what an experience. Highly recommend and is worth your time, the tasting fee’s at each location are minimal and are made up in price difference to the other tours. Monique has an abundance of information and knowledge and will guide you to each place that will best suit you, if not you have free range on choosing what you think will best suit you. Good music, good vibes and many a laughs.
ILY Monique
From all 7 of us, Thank you
(Note to company; this is 7 x reviews, all singular’s combined to one, each dedicated to Monique and her compassion and love towards her job. Team Monique)

A great way to do a wine tour in a flexible and economical way. For only $80 we could see up to 4 wineries and we could pick from a large list along with the ability to stay longer.
Bus comes around each hour and is spot on time.
I would suggest staying longer at Yalumba as 1 hour was not long enough to see the most magnificent grounds. Especially in autumn.
Bronny our bus operator was great value and knowledgeable.
I would highly recommend this option and I am keen to try the other regions with Trail Hopper. Thanks!

The hop on and hop off tour is perfect for those who want an easy way around to different wineries without being bound to a strict schedule. This was me and my boyfriend’s first time visiting the Barossa Valley and it allowed us to try different wineries in the region, stop when we wanted to stop at a winery or stay longer when we wanted to! As we were staying in Barossa, the bus was able to pick us up from a convenient location in town. Our tour guide Yvette was so welcoming and accomodating to all the passengers needs.
As this is transport only, you will need to organise your own wine tastings at each cellar door but this was so easy to do online! The information on the trail hopper website about each winery was helpful for us to choose where we wanted to go as well.
I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to hit up some wineries without paying for an expensive tour. I would definitely be using them again the next time I visit the Barossa!

Hi what time is the pickup from the Stamford hotel?
Is there just 1 pickup time?
What is the last bus arrival time return to Stamford hotel?
What’s the max wait time for hop on bus?
Written 1 March 2023
Best to check the the "Hop on Hop Off" Web site for timetable details as there are a few different trips that vary in their times and I would think times can be subject to change.

Hi can we use this tour and have an overnight stay eg.. pick up in Adelaide cbd day one then after using hop on hop off for a day stay in the Barossa - organising own accomodation.. and then Pick up tour again for a second day in the Barossa and then then travel back to Adelaide cbd ? booking and paying for two individual day tours just with different pick up points thanks in advance

Hi S5969FTsharonm, This is probably a question you should ask the Hop on Hop Off company. It's likely a matter of if they can accommodate any luggage you may have! I'd give them a call/email. I received a quick response with emailing. Thanks

can we get a list of the wineries we can visit, also does the cost include wine samples. do you pickup at the Ibis in Adelaide
Written 26 February 2022
Yes, there is a list of wineries. Go to the Trailhopper website. You pay for most tastings but get that back when you purchase wine at the cellar door. Not sure about pick up point as we were staying in region. Hope this helps!

Hello, we will be staying at Mt Lofty house - is it possible to join the tour from a nearby winery so that we don’t have to come back into the cbd? Thanks

Hi
Do you have list of wineries that you could please send me. Thanks
KylIe
Written 11 January 2020
Hi Kylie, it will be listed on their time-table. This is the list of stops - Grant Burge Wines, St Hallet, Bethany, Rusden, Lambert Estate, Yalumba, Saltram, Provenace Barossa (includes Penfolds), Kaesler. Recommend that you do a little research first before you decide as quite likely the max that you can do is 4 out of the list.

The price for one person is 44 if you are book for two. Why is the price higher if only one person is doing the booking? It is still a group of people, right? Why does the price change if if the group is the same size? Never seen anything like this before.
