    SAECO Tours
Wow! We have just finished a 5 day Flinders Ranges trip with SAECO TOURS and I have never seen the Flinders Ranges looking better! Not only was it lush and green after recent rains but the wildlife was prolific - Wedge-tail Eagles, Green Ring-neck parrots, flocks of emus, echidnas, kangaroos and with Mick’s (the tour guide) help, we even spotted dozens of the endangered Yellow Footed Wallabies. A very special experience for both Australians and overseas visitors alike. The trip was well organised and Mick Murdoch went out if his way to make everyone enjoyed themselves. The 4WD vehicle was very comfortable even over unsealed sections of the outback and well equipped with lots of little extras including a beautiful basket of fruit that was a hit with everyone. Highlights for me were Mick’s extraordinary knowledge of the area, the outstanding accommodation, which exceeded everyone’s expectations and then there was the unforgettable landscape! Wilpena Pound, Brachina Gorge, and the Ridgetop Tour at Arkaroola were just a few of my favourites. And the return drive back through Wilmington, Melrose and the Clare Valley was the icing on the cake. So much better than trying to do it ourselves - learnt so much, saw so much and especially enjoyed the company of the other travellers. P Birkett

5 day tour of the Flinders Ranges from Adelaide
Bucket list trip that exceeded expectations. Perfect weather, excellent company and great organisation by our bushman and guide Mick! Unsurpassed scenery with many sightings of the shy yellow footed bush wallabies, kangaroos, echidna and emus. The accommodation at the resorts was most comfortable and the meals hearty. A highlight of the trip was the 4x4 ridge top drive from Arkaroola. Informative commentary by the knowledgeable Mick both entertained and educated us throughout. I can highly recommend this trip.

    The Flinders Ranges shone.
Thank you SA Eco Tours. What a delight to deal with a company that has integrity and delivers on what it promises. The weather was perfect, and the conversations with Steve were stimulating and informative. The days just seemed to pass by so quickly. The Flinders Ranges shone in all their glory and to drive in gorges that were millions of years old was amazing. The accommodation and meals were absolutely fabulous. Thanks, Steve, for looking after every detail and for your company as we drove, walked, ate, or drank tea. Thank you Mick for providing a wonderful tour.

    Good value for money tour
Steve definitely made our trip memorable! His great sense of humour, kind nature and flexibility made for a great trip. The scenery was breath-taking and Steve's knowledge of the areas he took us to extensive. Certainly a lot to see in a short space of time but well worth it. Maybe an extra day to take in Oodnadatta might be worth considering (Lynette says an extra few hours for shopping in Coober Pedy!!).

    Small Company and Unprofessional
Off to what I'd call an unprofessional start. Guide went to the wrong pickup place (didn't check his notes); had to drop off some documents enroute (30 minutes in a different direction); then an early stop to refuel the car. Arrived at Wilpena at least an hour later than we could have. The Flinders Ranges are fantastic, and my stay at Wilpena Pound, and flight was great. However, I could have done it all in my own vehicle, organised everything without a guide (and you can too) I didn't feel that having the guide added any value, and frustrated me at times with his lack of caring. The guide had plenty of stories to tell, but mostly hearsay from other guests. He offered very little information about where we were and what we were seeing. Small companies don't have to be unprofessional, and this company is small and unprofessional - in my experience.

    A must do tour
My wife and I did this tour as we wanted to see the Flinders Ranges. I had already been there about 40 years ago. After the tour concluded we commented to each other there was not 1 minute we were disappointed with. To see the Flinders Ranges with an experienced tour operator who is very familiar with the area, it’s history and aboriginal connections was a bonus. The highlight for us was the Ridge Top Tour in Arkaroola. While it’s a rough ride it’s something most people rarely do. A couple of days after the tour my wife and I said we would do it again if the opportunity arises. Other highlights included a flight over Wilpena Pound and Brachina Gorge in a late afternoon drive through. The accommodation for remote areas was good and the meals were fantastic. Mick and Mark were wonderful hosts and very easy to talk to and answer many questions. My wife and I highly recommend this tour.

    Superb Experience
4 Day Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre tour. “This is normally a small group tour, but I was the sole participant on the trip- the fact Mick took me, is a testament to his commitment to the role. So I got the personal attention and flexibility needed to work around the winter weather. The tour was full of wonderful experiences. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. Mick made sure I saw unique spots, rare animals, learnt about the culture, and enjoyed the Australiana that was around every corner. There were plenty of “ah” moments. My favourite place in the Flinders Ranges was Brachna Gorge with its unique landforms, fossils and yellow footed wallabies (yes, Mick made sure I saw this rare animal, in two places). The tour included a scenic flight over Lake Torrens and Lake Eyre. This was stunning! The whole tour was well paced and enjoyable. Mick catered for my every need. He was informative, courteous, friendly and had such great stories to tell me. He made the tour so much fun! I have travelled to 70 countries world-wide and this tour was up there with “the best” I’ve enjoyed. Wilpena Pound is a good central location for this tour and offers lots of options for hikers, walkers, or a senior like me, who enjoys touring. Good value for money too. Thanks for enriching my awareness of our ‘wide brown land’.” Cheryl, Sydney, NSW.

What an exciting way to see the Flinders ranges and the outback in a private four-wheel-drive for 7 days with 3 solo guests and our driver, we went places you couldn’t go on a large tour, our driver Steve was very knowledgeable and a very skilled driver , showed us the Flinders ranges and the outback towns in-depth , this was the real Australia, If you really want to see the real outback this is the only way to do it, the experience of a lifetime, the vista's were incredible !

    Get Away From It All
I was picked up near where I was staying and the driver/guide was friendly and one felt one was going to get on with him and enjoy the tour. Due to a previous accident we were not able to use the stock 4WD but the modern rented van did not alter plans. We were in for a long drive but time passed agreeably and our first stop was at an interesting township for lunch at a characterful pub. From then on we were in the wonderful countryside of the Flinders for our trip. The trip was full of interesting stops, with chances to photograph and learn. We stayed at Wilpena Pound. One could use all the facilities and the included meals (choices available) were really good. Prebooked sleeping arrangements included motel room, cabin or tent. Two interesting morning walks, which if you are not fully mobile, could be a problem (6Ks woodland and 2K mostly rocky and up/downhill). Every effort is made to enable one to see animals and this is great trip for those wanting an experience in the outback.

    Go. On. This. Tour!
If you are in Adelaide and looking for a true outback experience in a breathtaking mountainous landscape, this is the Tour for you. The small group setting made for an intimate and unique experience which made the trip seem very personalized and private. For 3 days you will be inundated with european settlement sites, sightseeing walks and drives, animals, aboriginal culture, and ancient history of the flinders ranges. We saw plenty of kangaroos, emus, yellow footed rock wallabies, kookaburras, and other wild animals. Shane the tour guide was absolutely fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and full of entertaining stories. Definitely one of the best tours I’ve ever been on. As a solo traveler, I chose the tent option which made for a very immersive experience under the stars. When you wake up in the morning you will find yourself among kangaroos, birds and maybe even a wild goat or two! I elected to take a 20 minute morning scenic flight around the Wilpena Pound and it did not disappoint.

    You need to be there
7 days of exploring South Australian's Flinders and the Outback, experiencing the ancient arid landscape, wilderness, dust storm, 50 degrees heat, locals and wildlife, just us two and Mick of 30 years' experience, not to forget his beloved and super comfortable Toyota 2007 Sahara, what more could we wish for?? We couldn't have understood any of the history, seen the desperation of drought, nor met the people who call it home, without going there ourselves. What a fantastic experience, we highly recommend it. Thanks, Mick for your professional package put together for me, and for attending to every detail for us 'older middle agers'! PS Read "The Crow Eaters" as a fabulous sum up of our journey - even recognise the locals quoted in it!

We spent three days on this tour over the October long weekend. Alas, the vehicle we ended up in was a rattly old rental- the customized tour 4WD was out of action after hitting a kangaroo. Which I think you could honestly say- only in Australia.
There were so many charming things about this tour, it would be difficult to know where to start.
Firstly, Mick, our guide and the company owner, is a grizzled bush raconteur. he has been everywhere, is across everything, and has a thousand stories. He seems to be doing this job for the pleasure of it as much as anything else. he knows just enough, without knowing way too much, so as a passenger I was never bored. There was a diversity of ages, body types and primary language in our tour, and he made a fighting effort to ensure everyone's comfort.
Secondly, the resort we stayed in at Wilpenia Pound was gorgeous, and also co-owned by the local indigenous community. There was a welcome to country ceremony at night that, God help my cynical heart, drew me in and made me feel both tearful and respectful. There were options to camp or stay in the motel units, and we opted for the motel- this turned out to be a wise idea because heat, flies, critters, and noise. we were able to retreat at night and watch television rather than be rather too closely associated with the local wildlife. Having said that, we kept literally stumbling over kangaroos, who clearly didn't get the 'be afraid of people' memo as they hopped all over the resort.
The units were comfortable and extremely clean, without being way over the top in either quality or price- resounding box-tick from me.
The scenery was amazing- it has not rained to any extent in nearly eight years, and we saw every permutation of dry, from 'looks a little parched'', to ''My God, how can anything survive this?'dustbowls. Crazily, the land is crisscrossed with dry creek beds that have clearly seen some mega-floods in the past. Who could figure it?
And now for the only con- the flies. I dont know what they live on when they cant get tourist, but my mouth and nostrils seemed to send them into a frenzy'in the wilder areas, although the resort was fine. Invest in a hat with a net and you will have no regrets.
So- go on this tour. You will see some amazing scenery, hear some great stories, and have a great time in a part of the world that really has no parallel.

I had such an amazing time on this trip! The landscapes were gorgeous and I saw lots of cool native wildlife. Our guide was really knowledgeable and took us to some breathtaking off the beaten path locations. If you're looking for an alternative to the big tourist-y attractions in Australia, I highly recommend this one. It was intimate, informative, and unforgettable. We even caught sight of some of the rare yellow footed rock wallabies!

Fantastic way to experience the real Australian outback. Thrilled to see endangered yellow footed rock wallabies soaking up the sun on the rocks.
The accommodation was warm & comfortable despite the freezing night time temperatures.
I have been looking forward to seeing the world famous Wilpena Pound and was not disappointed. It was spectacular and our guide explained how the area was formed.
I also learnt a lot about the history of the area from the experienced guide with his knowledge of the local areas we covered.

I had an amazing experience with SA eco tours! Professional and knowledgeable tour guide, comfortable tents, and big delicious meals. Warren gorge, Flinders Ranges national park, Bunyeroo/brachina gorge scenic drives, stokes hill sunset, aboriginal culture/paintings, Clare Valley wine tasting, and plentiful wildlife are just a few of the highlights of the three day tour. I highly recommend and hope to be back!

The trip is ideal to get a good idea about what the Outback can look like without spending much time there.
Our guide Benno took showed us deserted homes alond duszy roads away from the main routes that tourists take to come to Flinders Range.
He knew the spots to get a look at the shy rock wallabies and wedge tailed eagles.
Evenings at the campfire where quite entertaining while having a simple but excellent dinner.
The night in the tent was one of the calmest and most restsome in a long time.

We travelled to Adelaide on the Indian Pacific, which was a wonderful experience in itself. The SA Eco Tours part of our package was equally wonderful. We had personal attention from our delightful driver/guide who showed us from one end of the Flinders Ranges to the other in fine style, and in the friendliest, most empathetic and professional way imaginable. We experienced things that most people would never experience.
The trip from Adelaide to Wilpena Pound was relaxed and informative, passing Port Pirie and having a very interesting stop at Port Germein. On to Quorn and arriving in the early evening at Wilpena Pound.
Accommodation at Wilpena Pound was very comfortable and all of the meals were tasty and enjoyable without purporting to be “gourmet”.
Our experienced guide knew the Flinders Ranges like the back of his hand, and consulted with us regularly to tailor our experience to our needs/wants. From the south we went north almost to the Gammon Ranges, experiencing the amazing changing landscape as we approached the real “outback”.
Back to the Pound for a delightful morning walk into it before heading back to Adelaide via the Clare Valley. Although only three days, it seemed much longer due to the things that we were able to experience, but with no stress and no ridiculous structure of fixed schedules!
A wonderful experience, thoroughly recommended.

Was looking for a way to visit the Flinders Ranges with my mom during her short stay here and this was the perfect way to do it. Our knowledgeable guide surely knew the area well and took us to all the good spots, with great anecdotes on the way. The mountains were magnificent with gorgeous views at every turn, the sightings of yellow-footed rock wallabies were a major plus and a taste of roo around the campfire was hard to miss. Mom dreaded the cold so we stayed in a cabin, which was very comfy and also had access to extra walking trails that we took advantage of early in the morning while the roos were still about.
Many other interesting stops along the way to and back from the Flinders, which brought variety to the trip as well (a visit to Port Germein was a personal favourite).
What a great way to experience Southern Flinders Ranges for a short period of time!
