      Holiday on Kangaroo Island
Even though the seas were a bit rough on the day of our trip, the ferry ride was extremely smooth. The return trip was a lot quicker and the service was great in the calmer waters.

      Nice Experience
The whole process from booking to the travel with a car was easy. The terminal and ferry staff are all very friendly and accommodating. We travelled across from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw and then returned two days later with both journeys being on time and with beautiful scenery to enjoy. We even got to see some dolphins just in front of the bow when we were about to depart Penneshaw. We also found it reasonably priced considering we were taking a vehicle. We recommend to anyone who is wanting to travel to Kangaroo Island.

      Not satisfactory
The most disfunctional group of people I have ever had the misfortune to be under the direction of. Being loaded on to the ferry at Cape Jarvis we were given 4 different sets of instructions. Each of which were given by rude and disrespectful employees. One of our group was reduced to tears whilst an officious young man on a power trip yelled at her. Later the excuse of port improvements was used to justify the abhorrent behaviour of the port staff. The home trip was no better, being given instructions on a radio with no form of ID. The radio was open being used to direct several vehicles at once. The expectations on the drivers to understand who was being spoken to when up to 6 vehicles were moving at once was unreasonable. The simplicity of directing instructions to the grey Ranger or the yellow truck has escaped the majority of the port staff. It would appear that these people are intensely unhappy with job and don't have the concern for the customers that provide their income.

      KI - A big Island
The ferry trip was fine albeit so expensive. I hadn't appreciated how big KI is and had to do much more driving than I planned to see everything. This made the experience a little more tiring. Also I hadn't realised that at EMU Bay we would be without Optus and Vodafone coverage and that our stay also had no wifi!. Nonetheless we did enjoy our 4 days, but wouldn't rush back.

Sealink - A great start to our KI adventure
Our trip over to Kangaroo Island was easy on Sealink. Their staff were friendly and incredibly skilled! Having been guided to my position on the car deck I understood why passengers had to walk on board. The booking system is easy to follow. Thanks Sealink!

Amazing Day Trip from Adelaide city to KI
This was a great tour experience we had with Sealink. The day tour itinerary was well planned, and the thorough introduction from local tour guide and driver Scott definitely added more highlights. The two-course lunch venue was modern and clean, and the food was delicious. The Koala Wildlife Park is definitely worth visiting. Everyone had the opportunity to encounter the kangaroos, and you could even do a koala holding experience. Overall, it was a great experience that shouldn't be missed. The island is recovering well from the bushfire, and we already look forward to bringing our international clients for the next visit.

"Drive" to Kangaroo Island - a great way to visit
There are so many beautiful things to explore in Kangaroo Island. A great way to do it is a combination of driving your own car (drive on the white sand beach!) and joining one or more Sealink tours. You can bring your car on the Ferry and drive off upon arrival.

    Difficult review to write....

    The tour itself, 5/5
The coach to the ferry and Peter the driver 5/5
    Hamish the tour guide 5/5
The Company (Sealink) 1/5 and thats generous
The driver back to Adelaide 2/5

I should start by saying that storms had been forecast for several days and I foolishly made the assumption that the company would advise us if there was any chance that there might be a problem getting back. After all they do own and operate the ferry!!!!!!

Despite rain we had a good trip down, ok ferry crossing and a brilliant trip around the island, seeing seals, kangaroos, Koalas and the Remarkables (they do live up to their name) and Admirals arch.

Unfortunately after that it all started to go wrong.... Sealink cancelled the ferry due to bad weather and simply didn't appear to have a plan of action to deal with the stranded passengers. Some went to hotels on the island, at their own expense and we slept at the terminal.

Staff at the terminal were great and Peter even brought in mattresses and blankets from home.

On arrival back on the mainland, after a really rough crossing, we boarded our coach to be told that the driver had received orders from Head office that there would be no hotel drop offs, just at the bus station. This could gave been handled so much better - "I am sorry ladies and gents but because of the number of passengers and the delays we will be unable to drop you at your hotel today" same message much friendlier delivery.

Overall my ansgt is with Sealink. They own the ferry, the storms had been forecast all week. The least they could have done was warn us that there was a risk of cancellation, and the consequences of that. At least we could have made our own decision as to whether we wanted to take the risk. 2ndly the weather obviously deteriated during the day, why didn't they curtail the trip and get us on an earlier ferry.

My lasting view of Sealink is that their staff onthe ground are fabulous but the company as a whole don't give a damn

Hi Kevin, thank you for your feedback and we would like to apologise that you had that experience. We are proud of our team’s response on the ground during an unusual weather event of that nature and thank you for your kind words, we will ensure they receive them personally. Regarding cancellation of our scheduled services due to poor weather, we would like to assure you that we do have a stringent process in place. As the weather is often unpredictable and contrary to forecasts, the final decision is made by our Masters, sometimes unavoidably quite close to a scheduled departure. The safety of our customers and crew is always our priority. We do however acknowledge that the situation during that particularly difficult weather event experienced across South Australia and the resulting difficulty of finding last minute accommodation on Kangaroo Island was not a good customer experience. We have since worked with our teams to put further controls in place to avoid this occurring in the future. The SeaLink Team.

My mother and I went on a day trip from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island with Sealink, our tour guide from the Island was a local guy Adam and hands down the best guide you could ask for. He was so knowledgeable and really made our trip. We loved it so much much we are definitely going back and going to spend longer next time because we just loved it that much. Whilst it was a long day, we had perfect weather in mid September and the ride over wasn't at all troublesome for my mum who gets seasick. Weather was perfect and we honestly had nothing but good comments for the whole day. Both the drivers who took us on our coaches to and from Adelaide where great and we felt very safe travelling back late at night.

This was such a fun day!

Most reviews talk about how much sitting on a bus there is and how it’s a long day but honestly, it only felt like a long day right at the end. There was so much to see and Hamish, our guide/bus driver, kept us entertained with lots of information on the history of the island and future plans as well as pointing out bits and pieces on the drives.

I was so excited to see the seals at Seal Bay and it really didn’t disappoint! It was a dream come true. I really love how respectful the guide was towards the seals. We didn’t spend a long time there and we had to keep our distance. I think this is so important. I loved that she told us if a baby seal comes to us we need to essentially ignore them so they think we are boring so they don’t become tame at all. Keeping wild animals wild and respecting them like this was so refreshing.

Remarkable Rocks felt like a whole other planet and was so interesting to explore. It really reminds you how incredible Mother Nature is and how wonderful our natural world is.

Admirals Arch was stunning AND got to see more seals! Including one that just woke up from a nap and then used a rock as a waterslide to go rolling around in the waves.

The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star rating was that the last stop at the “Wildlife Park” was really just a zoo. And it was heartbreaking. It was dreary, birds alone in cages with minimal foliage, exotic animals that are so far from native, it was a really depressing end to a great day. I feel like a place like Kangaroo Island doesn’t need a zoo when the island itself is so gorgeous and it’s always so much more amazing seeing animals in the wild and not caged. I would have been happier had the day ended after Admirals Arch.

Aside from that our lunch stop after Seal Bay was really lovely. The ladies serving us did an amazing job and catered to a variety of dietary needs. My boyfriend and I opted to sit outside and it was gorgeous.

I loved Kangaroo Island so much that I plan on coming back and staying on the island to drive around some more!

Our ferry back to Adelaide was delayed and that’s something to keep in mind. The weather impacts this tour so be open minded and understanding. The staff don’t have control over this and do what they can. We were given a hot drink voucher to use while we waited for our ferry. They didn’t need to do that, but it’s very appreciated that they did. I would recommend this tour and this company to my friends and family but I would suggest they don’t participate in the last stop, the ‘wildlife park/zoo’.

One thing I would suggest is bringing snacks or a small meal for the end of the day. Lunch will be tasty and filling but by the time you’re heading back it’ll be about 7:30pm and you won’t be back in Adelaide until 10:30 (weather dependent of course). They do offer for you to call ahead to the pub and you can collect a meal from there before getting on the ferry or head into their local IGA to tide you over.

Early rise ensured pick-up from Hotel in Adelaide.
Pre departure information meant we were prepared for possible postponement of trip : bad weather forecast!
However, despite cancellation alert, trip proceeded and we had a wild, windy and wet trip across the waters to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.

Staff on board were attentive to the needs of all.
Directions were forthcoming and once underway, all was efficient.

Pick up by Coach driver on K.I. was quick and all keenly boarded.
Coach driver Dave was great, with wonderful descriptions of life, activity and all that goes on on the Island. He was fantastic: really ensuring that our day was full of all possibilities despite the inclement weather forecast.

Skies cleared for a sunny afternoon and so many wonderful sights and scenes were experienced 😍 it was a memorable day.
Final treat on K.I. was a koala crossing the road in front of the Coach: a chance to view the bush fire scarred male who posed for photos on the ground; then he climbed a shrub to sit and pose for more! 🤗

A long day; long drive "home" to the Hotel, was rewarded by seeing a wallaby jumping in the long grass and shrubs beside the road on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Although pretty expensive the experience was great value for money with a packed itinerary seeing so many amazing things that would be impossible to duplicate on your own. Dave the driver to and from Adelaide was really helpful and obliging.
Lunch was a chicken salad followed by cheesecake and was very tasty. We had teenagers with us and luckily we packed some snacks for them as there were not many opportunities to purchase food earlier in the day.
Kevin the driver around Kangaroo Island was very informative although a little monotone. He was not very customer friendly when we asked if was possible for our party of 5 to sit together for lunch. Fortunately the staff at the venue sorted things out and were very accommodating.

    What an amazing Island.

Starting with the cons (which is nothing to do with the island) the transfer to and from the Ferry was not great. There was no communication, many tours contact you the day before with final instructions, we received nothing, we were meant to have hotel pick up, but no one contacted us to confirm our hotel pick up, so we had to go to the general meeting point (others also experienced this, not a huge issue as it wasn’t far) but the lack of communication wasn’t an ideal start. To add to this the general meeting point instructions on your booking ticket ask you to be checked in at the desk at 6:15, be ready to be boarding the bus at 6:30 to be setting off at 6:45, however there was no one at the check in desk and the coach/driver didn’t arrive until just before 7am.
With the coach back to the CBD, there were several pit stops not relating to the tour (like postal service pick up) that the driver had to do (again not a huge problem as we eventually made it back, but it prolonged the already long journey back and when you’ve paid for a tour, you expect it to just be about that tour, it doesn’t mention unexpected extras).

Moving on from the transfer, once you get to the Island, you’ll have the most amazing day, learning all about this fantastic Island. It blew me away at how amazing this Island is and the community it has grown. More people should know about Kangaroo Island.
It was so amazing to learn all about the history and to see the Island come back to life after the devastating bush fires.
I wish I knew about the 2-day tour beforehand, because we would have happily stayed the nigh on the Island to carry on exploring the next day.

Thank you to Adam, our tour guide for the day (and a local to Kangaroo Island) for the most amazing day. You really made the day extra special, the humour/jokes, the information and knowledge shared throughout the day, and the extra mile he went to make sure everyone had the absolute best day. Our ferry was late docking by 20 minutes, cutting into our time on the Island, which meant there was a possibility we wouldn’t be able to go onto the beach to see the seals, however Adam worked his magic and got us that special beach visit. Also thank you Adam for the chats/stories about great whites (sad I didn’t get to see the tooth).

The 2-course meal we had was beautiful, you can really taste the freshness of the ingredients, love how they incorporated a small business that was affected by the bush fire. The staff were so friendly and happy, and the food was amazing – we had chicken salad for main and cheesecake for dessert, with free tea, coffee, or water.

Overall, we really enjoyed our day, one of our favourite tours, if we find ourselves back in Adelaide, we will definitely be visiting Kangaroo Island again to finish exploring the rest of what the Island has to offer. Definitely recommend booking this trip. Also, little tip: sit on the left side of the coach on Kangaroo Island a lot of the commentary and information is to the left.

We had a pleasant tour of the island with the very nice commentary from our tour guide cum bus driver. The bus ride was comfortable and there was enough time to enjoy the sights and scenery of Kangaroo Island. Lunch was good and served quickly by friendly staff. The ferry ride to and from the island was pleasant but I recommend to take sea sick medication if you suffer from motion sickness. It was a long day which started from hotel pickup at 6:10 am and we got back to our hotel at 10pm. Tiring but worth it.

Great day, everything was well planned, and you get to sit back and relax. Only complaint would be that It felt a little rushed at Remarkable Rocks and Admiral Arch, and I felt a bit sorry for the slower walkers, as there is a little walk to both.

There are substitute walks at both Seal Bay and Admiral’s Arch for those unable to do stairs, but I’d recommend doing Admirals Arch if you can, it’s stunning. There were no toilets on board.

It was a seamless trip to Kangaroo Island that was booked through Sealink. The lady who made changes to the pick up, by advising of the parkade closest to the bus depot, was pleasant, helpful and efficient. The air conditioned bus departed punctually and the bus driver courteously explained what we were to expect on the trip to Cape Jervis. We boarded the ferry and departed on time for Kangaroo Island. The cafe on board sells coffee and light meals. It is good to take snacks. The ferry trip was very smooth. The Sealink bus left for Seal Bay Conservation Park. We were able to see the seals quite close up. The guide was very knowledgeable and outlined the dangers to us and the seals if their environment was not respected. We stopped for lunch that was included in the booking. The bistro was functional and the staff pleasant. The meal of a warm chicken salad and cheesecake was ample and tasty. Tea and coffee was provided and cold drinks can be purchased. We were then taken to Remarkable Rocks which are truly well-named. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world. There was plenty of time to take photographs. Admirals Arch was the next stop and has accessible boardwalks to the bottom. The last place to visit was the Wildlife Conservation Park. We saw koalas, penguins, chickens, echidna, parrots and kangaroos. The most endearing were the kangaroos. They could be fed and the kangaroos eating from your hands is unforgettable. The ferry trip back saw dolphins chasing the ferry. The bus driver, Will, had a wealth of knowledge on the local flora and fauna and amiably answered every question asked. He stopped to give everyone photo opportunities at magnificent parts of the Island. The Sealink day trip is really well organised. I would recommend the trip as we got to see so many sights in a day which would be exhausting if done on your own. I uploaded a short video of my trip on my YouTube channel LaraLise life & crafts

The Kangaroo Island in a day tour from Adelaide was amazing. The drive through the countryside from Adelaide to the ferry port was beautiful and we saw dolphins and a whale on the ferry trip. Dave gave us a warm welcome on the island and was an amazing tour guide throughout the day, keeping us entertained with information and great vibes on the coach. We hit all the highlights of Kangaroo Island with the wildlife park being a particular highlight feeding kangaroos and being able to stroke the koalas. Very nice 2 course lunch and smooth running throughout the entire itinerary from start to finish. My best day in South Australia by far!
