About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Kate D0 contributionsAnother epic day out with the Adrenalin teamMike, Rob and the team were professional as always and full of information both safety wise and with regards to the Yongala wreck. Rob had all the time in the world to answer questions and a bucket load of patience for divers of all skill levels from AOW and above. Other than always feeling that safety is an absolute priority with Adrenalin, the vessel was perfect for the day (love lounging upstairs) and the dives were mind blowing. We’ve been out here many times and have experienced some hectic current occasionally on the wreck and regularly hectic surface current. It was ripping on the surface today but once below 4 or so meters it was so calm. On the wreck itself the marine life were going nuts today. Loads and loads of large fish feeding - more than I’ve seen before on Yongala. We could easily just hover and observe in zero current. Utter blissful experience.Written 7 March 2025
- jdelisky0 contributionsAlways a great dayBest dive mob in Townsville. We are regular customers and Paul and his team always make the experience enjoyable. And then there is the SS Yongala itself. Epic!Written 7 March 2025

- getnround0 contributionsCould be betterThe reef is breathtaking and very enjoyable, it is a must see. We had both divers and snorkelling in our group. Snorkellers were just left to do there own thing which was good. The divers stated the guides were not the best. The lunch and snacks are sub standard, stale bread, bit of lettuce and processed ham etc. Morning afternoon tea some rock melon and scotch finger biscuits. Not worth the money you pay. We have dived in Coron, philippines and you get a feast cooked. Some staff were good, others a tad rude. But on a whole it was a great experience thanks to the reef.Written 7 March 2025

- Explorer363069842320 contributionsInteresting trip but poorly advertised as tropical lunchAn enjoyable day out snorkelling and seeing John Brewers Reef teeming with sealife. Friendly staff but not really a tropical lunch as it is actually a put it your self sandwich. Should also give the reef info on the trip out and not the trip back. An enjoyable day nevertheless and well staffed.Written 21 January 2025

- Ching F0 contributionsa fun ride and beautiful reefThe reef site we got to is so beautiful, the boat anchored inside the reef systems, and provided us robes for each side we can get to, and feel very safe as the staff consistently watching each one in water, and provide assistance when in need. Beautiful corals and fish we haven't seen them for a long time.Written 14 November 2024
- Rob D0 contributionsAmazing Dive , fantastic crewWhat a great trip! Absolutely amazing site, saw Manta Ray, Eagle Rays, and a Bull Ray. And so many fish and coral!! Great staff, excellent quality gear and felt very safe the well taken care of. Would highly recommendWritten 5 November 2024
- PrincessCattibrie0 contributionsSnorkel tour with Adrenalin!Amazing snorkel tour of the reef! I saw hundreds of fish and was surrounded by coral, and I have the beautiful photos to prove it! I wld recommend a snorkel tour with Cassey as ur guide, esp if ur going solo. She is a wealth of knowledge and spotted lots of things I wld have missed, such as the humungous Triton snail eating a purple starfish. All the work Cassey and Adrenalin does towards conservation was an eye opener. I did not know that people count the fish and coral in the sea. And it’s not easy! MOUA - the museum of underwater art - was visible as a snorkeler. I was worried I wouldn’t be able to see it, but the sentinels and trees were clearly visible. It was really eerie looking down on the statues. Almost like looking on a lost Atlantis. All up a top trip and the catering catered to Coeliacs including being careful of cross contamination in the buffet. Thx Matilde! Would thoroughly recommend!Written 28 October 2024
- izurdeablau0 contributionsWORST DIVING EXPERIENCE AFTER 145 DIVES AROUND THE WORLD, VER Y UNPROFESSIONAL CREW AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVEWORST DIVING EXPERIENCE AFTER 145 DIVES AROUND THE WORLD, VER Y UNPROFESSIONAL CREW AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE Activity: Adrenalin - Great Barrier Reef and MOUA Day Trip - Certified Diver Price: Extremely expensive, $459 + $10 (booking fee) for 2 dives at the same place, with NO guide (if you want a guide you have to pay extra $20/dive). Dive site: Nothing special. It’s the GBR, you expect something special! But we’re in a small reef where corals are so so and the only big marine life we see is humphead wrasse and whitetip reef shark (not even a moray, a stingray, a sea turtle… very common animals in reef areas). And the “museum”, Museum Of Underwater Art (MOUA), what a shame!! Equipment: Old, and wet suits for snorkel are too thin. Snorkel activity: I was diving but my friend was snorkeling, she has no experience (she told that to the person in charge) but she was told to go with her buddy (a 17 y.o. girl that had no experience as well, and who she had just met 10 minutes before). Diving activity: When we arrive at the meeting point to depart with the boat, Matilda (PADI N520525, the one in charge of the diving… I searched for her in Adrenalin website, but there’s no “our team” section) confirmed my diving certification and told me I was going with no guide because I didn’t book it (the truth is that I didn’t pay attention to the extras when booking, assuming that when you dive with a diving center a guide goes with you in a group of 4-8 divers; at least that’s how I have dived in Maldives, Red Sea, Seychelles, Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Italy, Spain…, and the guide is included in the price of the dive). As I don’t want to pay any extra (it would be $509 for 2 dives), and Matilda tells me it’s an easy dive site and there’s another experienced diver who didn’t book the guide (so we can be buddies), I accept to dive unguided with the experienced buddy. First dive: The experienced diver results to be a 72 y.o. lady, overweighted, with mobility problems (2 knee surgeries with prosthesis and ankle problems). After helping her with the equipment, we start the first dive. We need 3 times because she needs more weights in her BCD, no one from Adrenalin helps her, I have to do it. Finally we start the dive 20 minutes after the rest of the divers (I was about to say “group” but it was not a group). After 15 minutes diving the reef, the experienced diver tells me to turn back, and 10 minutes later (dive time is 25 minutes) she tells me she has 60bar left (I had 130bar left), so I tell her to slowly go up and do the safety stop at 5m deep, even if we are not close to the boat. She goes straight up with no safety stop. I keep calm and do my safety stop for 3 minutes, keeping an eye on her all the time. When I reach the surface, one member of the crew has arrived with a small boat to pick her up, and asks me if I can manage to swim to the boat (about 70-80m against mild-hard currents). I arrived exhausted! Lunch time: The “menu” is bread, salad, humus, 4 slices of cheese and 4 slices of ham/salami… ridiculous!!! During the lunch, Matilda asked me how the dive was, so I explained her my bad experience, that I didn’t enjoy the dive at all, that I had to finish my dive with 120bar because of my “experienced” buddy… I was really pissed off because it was not safe, I couldn’t enjoy the dive and I had to take care of my buddy. Matilda seemed to be sad for me and offered me to join her on the second dive. Second dive: We didn’t see much, but at least it lasted 47 minutes and was safe. Surprise: Once onboard, after the second dive, Matilda asks me for $20 for the guided dive. Really? After what happened on the first one? And without telling me anything about paying $20 when she offered me to join her for the second dive? Better to avoid this diving center and this dive site too.Written 11 October 2024

- 338sienap0 contributionsGreat dive (even for baby divers)Boat ride was great and crew kept us entertained. Once we got to the site we were in quickly and had an amazing dive saw some cool stuff. Had a few gear issues that I should have noted in gear check as they got annoying later on but crew were supportive. Lunch was simple but good surface interval flew by. Second dive was even better so much aquatic life. Overall highly recommend even for new diversWritten 25 September 2024

John Brewer Reef is a submerged reef at a spectacular location approx 50 miles out into the Coral Sea from Townsville - make sure you have polarised sunglasses to see it at it's best from the boat. Scuba & snorkeling is organised with emphasis on participants' safety. Boat ride is around 2 hours each way but there's plenty of time to dive & snorkel within the reef which is alive with fish. You'll be able to see the sunken Coral Greenhouse, statues & trees ('Ocean's Sentinels') even as you snorkel - if you scuba dive, you be amongst them. There's a lunch platter & refreshments on the boat. All in all, a great day out!

We did our PADI Open Water dives with Adrenalin, having done the confined water dives in the U.K. We were a family of 4, one snorkelled, three dived. We took two trips with Adrenalin and did 4 dives. The first day the conditions were amazing and the sea was a mill-pond. The second trip was windy with rough seas. Luckily we had all taken sea-sickness pills (Kwells) and even though two of our party have had seasickness in the past, they were OK. The dives themselves went very well. We had John as our instructor on the first day, and he was patient with my daughter (10) who was very nervous, and got her through all the skills for her Junior Scuba Diver certification. Before the trip she wasn’t sure if she would dive on day 2 or snorkel, but she enjoyed it so much she decided to dive again. The second day we had Billy to get my son and I through our Open Water Diver certifications, who was great even though he was unwell on the way out himself. My daughter dived with Cassie, who held her hand and she had a great day!
On both trips we saw whales on the way out. On the reef, between us, our party saw reef shark, grouper, barracudas, sea cucumbers, giant clams, a porcupine fish, a parrot fish and many more fish and coral. The MOUA was interesting as well and we enjoyed swimming through the sunken greenhouse. Thank you Adrenalin Dive!

hi Vicky, Thank you so much for your detailed review!
We are thrilled to hear that you and your family had such a memorable experience with us. It is fantastic that the conditions on the first day were perfect and that you were all well-prepared for the second day’s rougher seas.
We are delighted to know that John’s patience and support helped your daughter feel confident enough to dive again, and that Billy and Cassie made your certification experience enjoyable despite the challenges. It is great to hear you all had the chance to see a diverse range of marine life and enjoyed the MOUA.
Thank you for choosing Adrenalin Snorkel and Dive for your PADI Open Water certifications. We hope to welcome you back for more underwater adventures in the future!
Safe travels and happy diving!

The crew, the boat, equipment, light lunch and the instruction were all excellent.
However, be aware if you go on a bad weather day this trip will be torment - 2 hours forty minutes each way through rough seas on aluminum benches with people being sick. The snorkelling site will be barely suitable due to wind and strong water current.
Not sure what the solution is - I guess pre book only a couple days out when you can check the forecast and be assured of good weather, otherwise it’s an expensive way to be miserable for a day.

Hi Jim,
Thank you so much for your fantastic 5-star review! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the crew, the boat, the equipment, the lunch, and the instruction.
We appreciate your feedback about how weather can affect the experience. We always strive to provide the best possible trip, but we understand that rough seas and challenging conditions can impact enjoyment. Sometimes, the only available days to visit the Great Barrier Reef are dictated by tide schedules, and we do our best to deliver a great experience even in less-than-ideal conditions while ensuring safety. We agree that checking the weather forecast before booking can help ensure better conditions for those who are flexible.
Thanks again for your valuable input and for choosing us. We look forward to welcoming you back on a day with more favorable weather!

The tour did nothing wrong- the staff was nice and accommodating, but the weather made the 3 hour boat ride to and from the reef absolutely unbearable. Half of the guests got sick. The reef itself was so wavy and the current was so strong that you could not even move. The second session, they moved us to the other side of the boat where the waves were even bigger- we stayed out for 5 minutes. They did warn us that it might be rough, but their warnings were not sufficient. Do not go if the waves are high- it was not worth it. Make sure you leave yourself an extra day so you can reschedule if it is rough and do it.

Hi Julie,
Thank you for sharing your experience. Exploring the Great Barrier Reef is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure for many travellers, and our team always strives to ensure it is a memorable one. On days when conditions are forecasted to be rough, our skippers provide guests with clear information and the option to reschedule if needed. For those with limited flexibility, we proceed when it is safe to do so, understanding the unique value of this opportunity.
Sea conditions can affect individuals differently, and we acknowledge that rougher seas and currents can make for a more challenging day. We are pleased to hear you found our crew accommodating and supportive—they are committed to providing the best possible experience under all circumstances.
For those planning their visit, we recommend allowing extra time in your itinerary to reschedule to another day with more favourable conditions. We hope you will have another opportunity to join us and enjoy the reef at its very best.
Warm regards,

Take a day and head to the reef. It’s a bit of a ride out but it’s worth it. Staff are helpful and entertaining.
Diving was great with plenty to see and great visibility.
Lunch is simple but does the trick. We got more snacks on the way home, fruit, biscuits, cheese and crackers. All that was missing was the champagne.
Definitely recommend to all divers.

We booked a Townsville Liveabord Trip for 3 days and 3 nights. We were told at the start of the trip that we wouldn't be able to dive the yongala due to the conditions but the dives would be replaced with two extras on the reef.
However, unfortunately our trip was cut short. On Sunday night the wind picked up and we ended up beached on Davies reef. The crew spent hours trying to pull the boat off the reef and eventually decided to just wait for the tide to rise.
In the commotion, several parts of the boat and the safety tinny broke and they decided that we should head home rather than complete the trip. On the way home the generators broke so we wouldn't have been able to dive after that anyway.
In the end we missed one night dive and two reef dives and arrived in townsville at about 6 am. Due to the missed dives we also were unable to complete our advanced cert.
In compensation, the team offered $85. The 85 dollars they are offering does not seem reasonable for the three dives missed, nor will it cover the completion of the advanced certificate in Sydney. So far adrenaline is dodging our questions.
Never in my life have I dealt with such poor customer service. Although the first couple of days were fantastic, the professionalism shown by management ruined what could have been an amazing experience.

I have been diving across the globe and I have never seen a dive crew operate like this crew. They were excellent, methodical, courteous, and informative. The boat was spotless and the food was great. The dive on the GBR was great, colorful, vibrant, and the Lodestone reef had no bleaching or damage from recent cyclones in 2017. I cannot recommend this dive more. It took me a lot of research because I wanted to go somewhere less traveled than Cairns, not cyclone damaged like Airlie Beach, and also easily accessible by flight from Brisbane. This fit the bill. I was a bit skeptical because of the long boat ride, but the time passed quickly. The gear was also maintained very well and the boat was managed so incredibly well. If you get a chance, I heartily recommend doing this dive with Adrenalin Divers. It also worked well because my wife does not dive so she was able to snorkel and still experience everything just as much as I did. This is another reason I chose this. Hopefully one day I can return and do the Yongala wreck dive.

The information/activities pop in shack on Flinders st (opposite the cowboys club, also a great place to eat/drink at) will point you in the right direction.
