Small groups made this a very personal experience
We went snorkeling with ABC Scuba Diving and were very happy with the trip. The company is well organized and the staff is friendly and hospitable. We received thorough instructions at the time of reservation, and a friendly reminder the day before our trip, to suggest we visited the office a day ahead to clear the paperwork. The boat is roomy and quite big, even though it is intended for small groups with a maximum of twelve passengers. On our trip we were nine, which invited to lots of socializing with other participants during the transport out to the reef. There was one instructor per team, and each team consisted of three to four participants. That made the beginners in my team feel perfectly safe, which is an important part of the experience. It also makes it a lot more personal, like having your own guide. The shallow parts of the reef were magnificent and very accessible also to snorkelers. During the day we made three swims, and my only objection would be that two of them went to deeper parts. Even though I understand our instructor wanted to show us the diversity of the reef (and give us the opportunity to see a pack of barracudas and a sting ray) those parts offered less to see.

      Fantastic
The small size of the tour group was what attracted us to this activity. Once we arrived we were greeted with friendly, knowledgeable staff and a great atmosphere. Great stories, great local food and the best snorkelling experience on the outer area of The Great Barrier Reef. Highly recommended.

Incredible Snorkelling Experience on the Great Barrier Reef
I wish I could give more than a 5 star rating. I had such a fun and positive experience that I didn't want the day to end. I loved the guided small group snorkelling tour by the crew (marine biologists) and the attention to detail was impeccable. I felt safe and looked after the whole day. Thank you for my experience, I hope I can visit again one day.

      Personalized Barrier Reef Experience
Such a great experience! I love the fact that team was really knowledgeable and took the time to point out interesting fish and coral as we swam together. There were barely 10 passengers on the boat, and it felt like the trip was just for us.

      Brilliant experience
ABC delivered an amazing snorkelling trip to the Great Barrier Reef. The team on board, Callum, Sam and skipper Jason, were knowledgable , very friendly and made the whole experience one to remember. They assist as much as you need with the snorkelling , with nothing being too much trouble, have such enthusiasm for the experience and look after you all time. With a small group only this is a much more personalised, less rushed and genuine reef experience. We have snorkelled in many places and this was the best service we’ve had anywhere. I would highly recommend them and will be telling all our friends about them if they ever visit port Douglas. Many thanks again for a fantastic day.

Highlight Of Trip - Best Birthday!
The most magical birthday ever! Huge thank you to Jay, Sam, Inma and Jason for an unforgettable day snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef! Explored with just a tiny group on their exclusive day boat, offering the best, most personalized tours out of Port Douglas. This made it way better than any other tour bc there was personalized, individual attention to the sea creatures and reef. With clear conditions, excellent visibility and low tide, we even made it all the way out to Opal Reef! We saw sharks, giant stingrays, vivid coral, barracudas, sea stars and even whales with their calves!!! Absolutely spectacular time!!

Wonderful Experience with the Best Crew!
We had a wonderful time with ABC Snorkel Charters! Paula and Imna were so knowledgeable about marine life, and Jason was an excellent captain. I felt safe and educated at all times thanks to the wonderful crew. Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef was an unforgettable experience, and I was happy to do it with ABC Snorkel Charters!

      Top notch snorkelling experience.
The trip was great a little choppy on the boat but they prepared us for it well. The crew were super supportive when I was hesitant to hop in the water but they assured me and looked after me all day. The reef is awesome teaming with wildlife. Would highly recommended this trip very personalised and super friendly crew.

      Great day on the reef
Simply awesome - the best snorkelling trip we have experienced. Marine biologist, Sam was very informative. Great coral and fish varieties. Small group was worth the extra cost.

      Outstanding Great Barrier Reef Snorkel
ABC exceeded expectations for a private Port Douglas snorkel tour from our cruise stop. We had a local boat driver and 2 wonderful Marine Biologists (Collum & Sam) for 9 tourists. Went way out to reef areas the large vessels can't enter. The coral was gorgeous; the sea life was abundant (giant clams & parrotfish, starfish, clownfish, etc.). Spent total of 2 1/2 hours snorkeling with our expert for 4 people! I'm 70 & snorkeled great locations in Florida, Hawaii, Caribbean, etc. This was the best ever! Only problem is that it was tricky locating the boat as it's down the road from the big operations.

      Amazing Tour
It was a fantastic day on the Great Barrier Reef. The crew was great. Callan went through so much detail about the fish we saw and showed us really cool stuff on the reef. The boat captain, Toby, was awesome as well. I can’t recommend this excursion any more highly.

      Fantastic time!
Had an amazing day out on the reef with the guys. They were friendly, knowledgable, and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them. It was great to be in a small group rather than the big boats and we got to go to some amazing spots on the reef.

10/10 day on the outer reef
Fantastic day on the outer reef. Highly recommended. Our family felt like we were out on a friend’s boat on the weekend and not a big tourist boat. Toby the skipper, Callum and Sam the guides were so incredibly good in explaining the reef and the animal life. Great equipment, comfortable boat, cold beers, nice lunch and even better company Keep doing what you do fellas as we will be back.

We booked (booking was a breeze) on private charter to the outer reef 14/7/21 with Sam, Jen and crew. Small groups means plenty of time in the water. The crew are very knowledgeable and give you plenty of info on the way out to the reef. Snorkelling gear – quality snorkelling equipment, everything supplied and in good condition. Three crew members get in the water with you and are quick to point out things of interest to everyone. Lucky enough to see a whale on return to the dock as well and again the crew happy to point out and allow photo opportunities whilst waiting for whale to re-surface. You can purchase refreshments on the way back. No more expensive to charter privately than the big boats, so I would highly recommend ABC whether in a big group (family) or not AND get a more personal experience

10/10 worth the higher price for the intimate experience in having a marine biologist show you the wildlife, for a deeper understanding beyond just the beautiful colours of the reef
Fantastic day out..would recommend to anyone.
We got lucky booking someone's cancellation, they were booked out 5 weeks in advance due to demand for this experience... I'd suggest booking your spot well in advance of your trip

This experience was first class from start to finish.
The booking system was simple and easy, the communication from the team was timely and concise. From the moment we arrived for the tour we were greeted with friendly staff. The boat is modern and very clean and comfortable. We were lucky enough to have the best tour guide who consisted of a qualified marine biologist AND a zoologist! Their knowledge was invaluable and extremely interesting. My wife and I went on a tour with this company a few years ago and we were very excited to come back and bring our two teenage daughters. I would have no hesitation to recommend this to anyone looking for a premium un-crowded reef experience.

My wife and I spent a day of snorkelling with ABC for our honeymoon. We cannot recommend going with this operator enough.

Both my wife and I are beginner snorkellers with only some experience snorkelling in Tangalooma and Moreton Bay. Seeing the great barrier reef was on our bucket list and we definitely wanted to go while in Port Douglas and Cairns.

There are a few operators in Port Douglas with a different experience offered by the operators. We chose ABC because they have a marine biologist on board and cap small numbers for a more personalised experience. Our group was 12 people including kids. Some of the other operators in the area appear to have far bigger groups.

It was well worth paying a little extra for a smaller group because Sam (Marine Biologist) is able to point out and describe the amazing life on the reef in detail. We have been snorkelling with bigger groups before and a smaller group delivers a much more enriching experience. Furthermore, the team were able to help fix up masks to help with the experience.

We visited multiple sites in the morning (25/3/21) and couldn't ask for a more perfect day. The sites we visited were colourful with coral and fish. There were no other boats or snorkellers in the area. The team were able to cater for both experienced snorkellers and beginners on the day. A special mention to Sam for doing a deep dive and getting some amazing shots (attached).

A big thank you to Jurg, Sam and Wayne for making this day the highlight of our honeymoon. Also thanks to Anja for finding room for us on the trip. If you are looking to see the barrier reef while snorkelling visit ABC. ABC also do the Cairns travel vouchers which would be a great choice.

The only downside of the experience, was the weather was awful the following week, otherwise my wife and I would have driven from Cairns for second snorkelling trip with ABC :)

BTW thanks for bringing out the dolphins at the start of the dive!

Absolutely blown away with my experience with ABC Snorkel and I recommend to everyone who is looking for the best way to explore the true beauty of the Great Barrier Reef. With a professional driver, knowledgeable zoologist and marine biologist as crew, they made sure every person got every cent out of the experience. The smaller charter enabled us to see and explore much more of the reef with a safe and comfortable atmosphere. This is the way to do it, with positive and passionate people who love to share the wonders of Australia with you.

My Partner and I were simply walking past their store at lunch when we noticed their tours. Especially in this post Covid era, safe holidaying experiences were harder to come by with many tours not respecting density limits and squishing you on board like schools of fish in the reef. They were kind enough to pick us up from our hotel in the morning and drop us off back there at the end of the day.

I highly recommend this experience for those who want to experience the outer reef in a safe and supervised manner. I myself, still enjoyed the experience with pool noodles even though i have no swimming ability. We had both Sam and Anya who were both very knowledgable and ensured not only did we have a good time, but to also educate us more about the marine wildlife. Eg. Clown fish changing genders to ensure the baby has a mother at all times

A bit more expensive than other tours but definitely worth the extra money if you want an educational and safe experience.

Wow! I went with my wife, my daughter and her partner to the reef this week with ABC and had the most fantastic day. It had been on my bucket list for a long time and I am so glad I finally did it. My wife was very nervous as she is not a lover of the sea and had never snorkelled before. Sam, Jen and skipper Ryan were so enthusiastic it was easy to get excited and feed off of their energy, by the time we got to the first reef we were all ready to go. They gave instruction on how to use the snorkels, swim with flippers and what signals we should and shouldn’t give each other. They told us there would be harmless jelly fish and probably some reef sharks which were also harmless. We had two small teams of 6, Sam led our team, he was so patient and encouraging and before long my wife was snorkelling and loving it. Sam led us around the reef and showed us so much that we just wouldn’t have seen without him. We then went to a second reef too. We had several hours in the sea with a welcome cuppa in between reefs. If you are looking to go out on the reef then we cannot recommend ABC highly enough, they are worth every penny to go out further than other boats, go to reefs other boats just don’t go to and the small intimate group with incredible knowledge. Go for it and enjoy the best day ever.

Incredible review too, thank you!! So happy the bucket list experience was everything you hoped for : - ) So happy that your wife was able to enjoy the magic of the reef too, she should be very proud of herself. We really prioritise making the Great Barrier Reef experience accessible to everyone, no matter their experience level in water. Having just 12 passengers on board really means our guides can cater to everyones needs. Its also fantastic to have all that incredible marine life that you might miss pointed out and explained as you snorkel. We look forward to you and the families next trip to the reef. A big thanks from team ABC.

ABC Snorkel Charters provided the most incredible day out on the reef, it really was one of the best experiences we have ever had! My partner and I decided to book a full day snorkel tour with ABC after doing some research into the different tour operators out of Port Douglas. ABC appealed to us as it was a small group tour (max. 12 people) and ventured to reefs not accessible by the other larger tour operators, as well has having the best rating on Trip Advisor. The ratings definitely did not disappoint!! We had 2 marine biologists (Sam and Kate) dedicated to our tour of 12 people, meaning we shared one guide between 6 people which provided for a really personal experience. Sam and Kate were both incredibly knowledgeable, kind and relaxed and provided great guidance whilst snorkeling but also encouraged us to explore the reef at our own pace. We spent plenty of time in the water at 2 different reefs without another boat in sight, as promised! At one reef we were fortunate enough to do a float snorkel (the boat dropped as at one point and we floated with the current over the reef to be picked up by the boat after about an hour). The team were all very professional and friendly, the equipment was high quality and the reefs we visited seemed untouched. I have visited the reef before on one of the larger boats and the experience was totally different, it pales in comparison to ABC.

Our trip was a dream come true: To become one with one of the natural wonders of the world.

As a frugal traveler, I paused before booking this slightly more expensive tour option in the area, but the other boats had 85 or more passengers and, because of the size of the boats, have to stick to a limited number of reef sites, or a pontoon. I knew that, with a maximum of 12 passengers, we would get an intimate, personal tour of the reef. Please, if you are at all on the edge of this splurge, do it. You’ll know immediately that it was worth it.

A few days before, the weather looked iffy, so I reached out to the owner. His local knowledge of the offshore weather patterns alleviated my fears, and his predictions of a great day on the water were spot-on.

Our guides, marine biologists Sam and Callum, are examples of two people doing exactly what they should be doing for a living. Passionate, educated, knowledgeable, and personable, they were keen to share their love for the Great Barrier Reef. It is clear that there is no place they would rather be than hanging out with regal angel fish, pineapple sea cucumbers, and harlequin sweetlips.

Our trip out to the reef included a talk about the wildlife we would see as well as instructions for snorkeling, so that we could get right to it as soon as we got to our first spot.

Once in the water, Sam and Callum each took 6 of us so that we could snorkel in two small groups. Callum pointed out fish and coral, told us interesting facts about them, answered specific questions, and helped us cover a large area of the reef so that we could see many varieties of fish and coral. No matter what someone asked, he knew the name of it. He encouraged us to try free diving to get close up views, giving reminders about the safest way to regulate on the way down. Likewise, he made it accessible and comfortable for beginners and those that weren’t strong swimmers. Noodles were provided for those who needed a little more floatation, and he offered to tow anyone on a float if they needed a break. Again and again I thought about how different a tour with a bigger group would be.

We were kept happy back on the boat between sites with drinks, snacks, and lunch, and enjoyed chatting with the other people in our group.

Our seasoned captain, Jason, was excellent, and ran a safe boat. For those who get seasick, they had medication, which I recommend, as it was a bit rough on the ride out.

I worry on tours that there won’t be enough time to really enjoy it, but we had two very lengthy stops and I felt fully satiated by the end. The highlights for me were seeing many Giant Clams, which were beautiful and so stately; seeing a Sailor’s Eye (largest single cell organism in the world!); the beautiful colors of the coral; the lovely movements of the soft coral; and listening to the sounds of the constant action and activity that occurs under the surface of the sea.

I am So grateful to have had the deeply moving experience of seeing the Great Barrier Reef, and appreciate that Callum and Sam added so much to it. I will never forget it.

Jay, the owner was a pleasure to communicate with. Nothing at all was a hassle.
Then a superb day out with crew Kate, Tyler and Casey.

The boat was fantastic and comfortable. 12 passengers, the 3 crew made for a very personal experience.
Being a small craft (but very comfortable and spacious), the skipper Casey choose the reefs to visit on the day depending on weather conditions, swell and tides - so one gets the best experience.
We snorkelled twice, all up 2 hours. ( note the reef is about 60 -75 km off shore, so it takes time to get there and back )

The wetsuits, fins and snorkels very high quality. Once in the water, Kate guided us to things to see, and always close by that was assuring. I hire a camera from them, and Kate took great photos of us on the water and from underneath looking up to us.
I seemed to always drift in a different direction, Kate keeping an eye on me with a smile, and helping me along.

On board, Tyler gave a very informative and fun talk about the reef and the marine life, Casey was always up for any chat at the wheel, about anything to do with the craft and navigation.

Do not have any doubts, this small company is the number 1 experience to book with.
Personal, fun, informative, and the best way to see the amazing reef.

Will definitely book again on our next trip to Port Douglas.
