- 169fionap0 contributionsExceptional and life-changingThis tour is a must. If you're Australian, this tour will bring you closer to your own country. It will show you an Australia you never knew and will leave you wanting to know more. You'll marvel at Aaron's knowledge of plants, animals and landmarks and at how the Eastern Kuku Yalanji people used this cultural knowledge to survive for thousands of years. It will deepen your respect for our Indigenous peoples, their knowledge and culture. If you're from overseas, it's a great introduction to Australian Indigenous culture and the beauty of the Southern Daintree Rainforest area.Written 2 December 2024

Aaron, our host/guide was fantastic, and his local knowledge was super apparent as he responded to questions and queries by fitting in answers and demonstrations on the fly. He showed first hand his deep learnings from his cultural heritage and knew precisely where to go/look for flora and fauna Aaron's personality is wonderful and he made EVERYONE feel comfortable and special. A top guide and a top bloke. I HIGHLY recommend these tours! Thanks Aaron, will seek you again next trip! Cheers, Steve.Written 8 September 2024
- Trip5251320 contributionsThe best tour everThis walkabout tour was the highlight of my trip up north, from Victoria. Aaron was such a wonderful friendly leader: full of great humor, incredible information and spotting things the rest of us would have walked past. We had the most interesting day, filled our bellies with delicious native fruits, lunch and home made damper. Yum. We tested native plants for their medicinal properties and swam in the healing waters at Mossman Gorge. Saw a crocodile as well as other local animals. I can't speak highly enough about the tour and the life and joy Aaron brought to it. Thanks so much, CaroleWritten 7 September 2024

- elliewK5467OW0 contributionsDo it!A truly wonderful experience. I learnt a lot about traditional bush medicines of the area. If you're going to do a tour of the Daintree/Julaymba - be guided by someone who's family have been the traditional custodians of the land for tens of thousands of years. Doesn't get much better than that.Written 4 May 2024

A friend recommended this tour to us, & I will now be recommending it to all who travel to FNQ as a must-do. We went out with our boys aged 4 & 8 and although some parts were really out of their usual comfort zone, Juan was so engaging and quietly chugged them along. We had an incredible day & Juan has gifted us with stories we will share for the rest of our life.

Juan and Harry gave us the unique opportunity to learn about and participate in the stories and practices of the Kuku Yalanji people. As an Australian interested in indigenous culture this has been my favourite Aboriginal cultural experience. There is acknowledgment of the past and losses that have resulted, but the focus is on the joy that remains in the knowledge and practices that remain intact. There is plenty of general local history and knowledge shared too.
My family and I felt that Juan was inviting us into his home as a guest or extended family member. Thanks Juan. We were privileged to get this experience with you. The crab we caught with Harry, and that you cooked for us, was pretty good too. I can still taste the chilli sauce.

Great. Aaron seemed to be able to spot a stick insect at 200m. He was gregarious humorous, knowledgeable, and focused on ensuring we had a memorable experience. On our behalf he exposed himself to a nest of green ants to demonstrate their value. We missed seeing a Casowary, but saw things others could not see from 30cm away. If you get the chance dont miss it.

The tour guide, Aaron helped to make the tour very memorable. He was punctual, professional, polite, engaging and entertaining. The information provided was relevant to the rainforests of northern Queensland. The bush tucker and bush medicine examples also enabled us to extend our knowledge. Morning tea was also scrumptious. Congratulations on a highly professional tour experience.

Aaron was a great guide. Friendly, funny, passionate & really keen to share his depth of knowledge. He found stories & information to share in everything we saw, stopping in unexpected places to show details & surprises. Learned so much in a half-day tour.
The tour covered a wide area from Daintree to Mossman & the dip in the Gorge was an excellent refresher.
It’s so important for all visitors to find & support aboriginal-owned & run businesses. The future of our environment depends on understanding & respecting traditional ownership & management.
(And because most reviews seem to mention the food available, Juan’s mother’s damper was outstanding. Want that secret recipe!)
Thanks Juan & Aaron. Love your work!

If you do nothing else in FNQ - this is a must! Exceptional day on this tour with Juan, who embraced and engaged our 4 children with his rich knowledge and experience and deep connection to country. We were all left in awe of his stories shared, bush tucker and bush medicine, along with exhilarating activities through mangroves, water and forrests. Thank you Juan - we are all much richer (and much more informed!) for having had the day with you.

Juan our guide was so passionate about his life and job you couldn’t help get fully involved with what he was saying and doing. He was so keen to share his knowledge about his people and family.
Loved wading at Cooya Beach, catching and eating mud crabs and walking in Mossman Gorge. Fantastic value for money!
This was a real highlight of our trip to the area. Highly recommended!

A brilliant way to engage with rich indigenous culture and history. Our family loves spending time with Juan, exploring his traditional lands and learning some basic skills based on deep knowledge, which has been passed down over generations. Highly recommend this experience to discover the food, medicine, history and creatures that dwell in the mudflats, the creeks and mangroves. And one big crocodile!

My sister and I had a truly amazing time on the Ngana Julaymba Dungay tour with our tour guide Harry. We learnt so much about the Kuku Yalanji People and their rich language, culture and land. We had so much fun learning to spear mud crab and eating delicious damper. We loved learning about all the bush food and medicine and enjoying trying some of them. The tour ended with a swim the Mossman Gorge which was incredible. I highly recommend this tour and connecting with and learning about the Kuku Yalanji People and their land.
