About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- 580bichd0 contributions👍Had an absolute fantastic day out today. Gordon was one of our instructor, he was absolutely fantastic, loved his David Attenborough. impersonations!!Written 6 October 2024
- Jayne S0 contributionsFantastic Day out highly recommendHad a fantastic day out, snorkelling, staff & food was amazing, bit crazy at the first site, but once everyone got in the water and out the way was good, had your gear then for the rest of the way, just loved it, will definitely go againWritten 23 January 2023
- Robyn S0 contributions3 Dive day tripThe booking process was easy for a day trip to the outer reef for a 3 dive excursion as a solo certified diver. I am a relaxed and experienced diver and have enjoyed diving safely around the world in many conditions so looked forward to a cruisy relaxing trip to our famous barrier reef. The boat trip was fast and the dive crew were efficient with well maintained equipment. The dive brief and solid attention to safety procedures was appreciated. Food was good and lunch and afternoon tea plentiful. The 3 dives were very nice, at 3 different locations- the reef is a wonderful experience. The boat crew were mostly helpful and efficient. However despite many positives, I will never ever book another trip with this company due to the attitude of one crew member S**e who went out of her way to provide me with passive aggressive 'special attention' and left me feeling disrespected and bullied. Her attitude, sharp remarks and general manner towards me was quite unnecessary and spoilt an otherwise pleasant day for me. I will not be returning.Written 14 April 2021
- SistersTrip20140 contributionsBeautiful Barrier ReefMy husband and I just returned from Port Douglas where we did a wonderful day snorkelling with Silversonic. I was celebrating a significant birthday on the day, and the staff treated us like royalty, particularly Lilia and Reuben who were so helpful, and couldn’t be nicer. Luckily for us the weather was perfect for exploring the reef, which is truly amazing, and a must to tick off the bucket list. If you do decide to do it in Port Douglas you can’t go past Silversonic as they provide a wonderful service.Written 23 November 2020
- wenhuiz20170 contributionsNice boat and staffI went diving for the first time with this company and was a bit nervous my instructor Gordon talked me through it all and I ended up doing all 3 dives when I first thought I wouldn't even do the first. Because of Gordon I'm booking in for my open water and advanced open water tickets. I highly recommend this company and can't thank Gordon enough for his patience and expertise.Written 17 November 2020

Big shout out to Robbie..the skipper of the day..super informative of all three sites we visited..very up to date with all the local knowledge of the reef. ....and ‘sharky’...sooooo much more than an engineer..his dive knowledge is second to none..amazing photos .’.auzzywild’ on Insta 🤩 Another shout out to the lovely hostess, deck crew and staff...everyone was sooo lovelyWritten 23 October 2020

- KrystleL1010 contributionsDiving Agincourt ReefsWe are certified divers, and wanted to dive another reef during our holiday (completed a 2N3D liveabord off from Cairns last week). After a fair amount of investigating I couldn’t find any options that allowed certified dives without a dive master in control, so we booked Silversonic due to all companies seeming to be about the same in terms of destination/price/reviews. The reefs were pretty great. Saw a few fun creatures: cuttlefish, shark, small ray and a very domesticated and friendly large Maori Wrasse and lots of schools of small fish. Oh, and so many clown fish! COVID precautions abound, so numbers were relatively low for our trip (good for us!). The boat was very nice - modern, large, with very reasonable food. The trip out crossed a boating channel, and the rough conditions (25knot winds) made me somewhat uncomfortable. There were adequate warnings about the conditions and opportunities to buy sea sick tablets on the boat. We were pretty impressed with the system that Silversonic had to get the number of people on the boat, and in and out of the water. The numbers diving meant we had a max of 3 with our divemaster (Gordon, he was great!) but if the normal 8 per divemaster were there I think the dive sites would have felt quite packed. Overall, I enjoyed our day. And it was a smooth, well organised trip. However, it was a large operation and somewhat different to the usual small boat dive experience most certified divers would be accustomed to. In the absence of a liveabord heading up this way (damn COVID) it was a good way to explore some different reefs.Written 2 October 2020
- 571DavidB5710 contributionsA lovely trip. Shame about the coral.Everything about this excursion was well organised. Check in was efficient and we were quickly ushered to our seats. We were offered coffee and a snack for breakfast and there was plenty for seconds. We left the jetty right on time and blasted out to Agincourt reef. It is some 75km off shore and took about 90 minutes. We were given a health/skills check sheet before entering the water. People they considered at risk were given a red snorkel for easy identification in the water. We were briefed on the swim and issued with first quality kit, including a Lycra stinger suit. Rather than the usual defogging method, our masks were sprayed with a defogging agent. It worked well. We were here for more than an hour. The water was crystal clear and the fish life was varied and colourful. Unfortunately the coral was in terrible condition. It was mostly dead. After that we motored to another site for lunch and a swim. The same routine but the life guard gave a good explanation of the fish we were likely to see. The fish were similar but the coral here was better. By no means good, but better. Lunch was canteen style but carefully managed to keep people distanced. The fare was varied and well prepared. The quantity was enormous. The variety was underwhelming. The service was outstanding. After lunch we moved to the third and final site. Here the life guard led a guided snorkel. It was very windy and quite cold due to wind chill by this time. The crew now served afternoon tea. Cakes and or cheese and crackers. More than plenty was on offer. The cheese was cheddar ordinaire but the cakes were lovely. And so we headed back to Port Douglas. My wife and I enjoyed a delicious red wine as we watched the spray hitting the windows. At the wharf the crew line up to welcome us back. I forgot to mention. There was a photographer who took excellent photos but also hired out under water cameras. The service from the crew was absolutely first rate. We could not fault them.Written 4 August 2020
- familyoffour1270 contributionsOuter reef snorkelI went out twice while staying in Port Douglas With Silversonic. I chose this boat as they have the licence to swim with dwarf minke whales. from the website I thought there was some chance to see them, but once aboard found out from crew it was quite rare to see them and even rarer to swim with them (once every few years !?!) The staff were mostly very attentive, helpful and took safety issues seriously. Because I went up in July 2020 after the covid restrictions had loosened, the staff were as good as possible in separating people and reminding people of distances. The interpretation was average for snorkeling customers but would have liked more generally on the way out of the trip. There was lots of opportunity to talk about environmental issues and threats but this was not mentioned despite one reference to coral bleaching on one trip. I was disappointed at the response when I informed two seperate staff that snorkellers were accidentally kicking the reef. The first staff said that he’d told them but what could he do, some people don’t care. I explained it wasn’t about but caring but that snorkellers just needed some information as to their actions, but he said he couldn’t do anything. The next staff member thanked me but didn’t really raise it in her talk about the next five spot, only telling swimmers to be mindful of how close to the reef they were. Overall I think that there is so much more education opportunity here. They could have an actual biologist or marine scientist and need to offer people more information. What is the point of the trip if people can’t learn about where they are and change their views and behaviour?Written 14 July 2020
- Scouille000 contributionsAwesome !Hard to choose between all vessels in port Douglas ! Good food, crew and confi boat with magnificent reef. It is a big boat and we were lucky to do it during covid 19 so only 40% of its capacity. We did introduction to diving with two teenagers and managed to do two dives. Well done and even it is a lot of money, it was worth the experience. Our dive master Tamy was nice and wanted to spend the most time with us in the water.Written 11 July 2020
- StepheMade0 contributionsDiving on SilverSonic with QuicksilverWent on a dive trip with QuickSilver departing Port Douglas on their SilverSonic boat. Did 3 dives on the day. Was awesome. The gear was great and our Dive Master Gordon was very professional and personable. He knew where to take us and did a great job making sure we were safe and looked after. Got to see turtles, reef sharks too. What a day. Thanks Gordon!Written 27 January 2020
- kmc30120 contributionsReef tripWhat a great day out on the reef. We did research as we didn’t want a huge boat with hundreds of people and we are all snorkellers who have done it for years. This still had 80 but very well organised and run. Staff were amazing food great and the boat is very smooth ride out to the reef. Snorkelling was amazing would definitely recommend the Silversonic for a snorkel trip.Written 13 January 2020
- StickleAnna0 contributionsGreat way to see the Barrier ReefWe really enjoyed this trip. The boat holds up to about 85 people (rather than the 450 some boats hold) and this was perfect - big enough to be comfortable, have good food and excellent staff without feeling too busy. The snorkelling locations were excellent and a special mention for Kylie who was both fun and informative!Written 30 December 2019
- L1254EIianl0 contributionsFantastic experienceHuge thanks to Skipper Sharky, Dive Coordinator MAC, Divemasters Simon and Jade, and the whole crew. This is a fantastic experience and highly recommended for all ages. Such a friendly and helpful crew, super professional. You can snorkel, scuba dive, do an introductory scuba dive. The Silversonic is such a comfortable vessel with great facilities on board. Special thanks to Jade, dive master for my group. From the booking process, to pick up from hotel via a luxury coach, checkin at the harbour, to the voyage itself, all food provided, every detail has been planned to give you an amazing experience.Written 30 December 2019

This was by far the highlight of our trip - the Silversonic cruise was well staffed, professionally operated and logistically sound. The customer service/friendliness of the staff was excellent and everyone certainly seemed safe and comfortable. The snorkel gear was without fault, food services had a variety, sea sickness tablets available onboard and the onboard marine talk was also great. Only suggestions to Silversonic would be to have an acknowledgment of Country during the tour info/briefing and an info sheet about their dedication to covid safety and cleanliness especially as they’re dealing with face/mouth/body equipment. We highly recommend booking Silversonic or another ‘Quicksilver Group’ tour with in QLD

We spent 1 day on Poseiden and 1 on Sliversonic (crewed and run by the same company). Our 14 year old got to scuba dive for the first time and because of the great care from the crew and instructors took to it like a duck to water. They were also vreat at keeping us infrequent divers out of trouble and showed off the reef to it's best. Both boats arw well run and equipped and the lunches and snacks are good and plentiful. A big thanks to Tami, Macca and Simon in particular for taking care of us.

First time scuba diving and happy we were able to do it with Silversonic. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Took care of us from the very start. Coffee/tea in the AM before departure. Lunch was also filling and delicious. They take you to three different reefs. Absolutely stunning views! If you don’t have a go pro on hand they have a few underwater cameras you can hire. Otherwise you can purchase a few photos taken of you and the reef at the end of the trip.
Don’t worry if you haven’t gone scuba diving before. The team is exceptional and they make you feel ready. Our instructor was Gordon. He was very informative, light hearted, fun and made the experience enjoyable and easy. He was patient with those of us who have never gone diving before and put us at ease! Highly recommend going with Silversonic and if you can have Gordon as an instructor, that’s an added bonus!
We will definitely be back again! :)

What a fabulous trip
Everything was so well organised. Check in was efficient and we were quickly directed to our seats. We were offered coffee and a snack for breakfast
We did have a very windy day, so the boat ride out and back from the reef was rough, but the team on board had warned us so that we could take motion sickness tablets if required. They also checked up on us constantly, offering wet towels and cups of ice if we were feeling a bit under the weather.
We were briefed on the best areas to swim at each stop, advising us on the currents so that we could pick the area to head out to that best suited our ability.
Everything was included, including a Lycra stinger suit. Plus we were given defogging spray for our masks, which worked much better than the old method of spitting in our mask.
We were at the first stop for more than an hour. And saw a lot of fish, which were varied and colourful. We even had "Donut" Giant Maori Wrasse grace us with his presence, and he was up for a photo shoot by the professional photographer on board. There were some amazing shots taken and these were offered later for purchase. Along with taking our photos all day, he also offered underwater cameras for hire and also gave us hints on our own underwater cameras to ensure we got he best out of them.
After that we headed off to another site for more snorkelling followed by a delicious lunch. A great variety and plenty to go around including seconds if anyone wanted it.
After lunch we headed to our third and final site. Here the life guard led a guided snorkel. It was very windy and we all used the noodles to help make it easier to stop and listen as Kylie explained different elements of the reef, coral and fish life.
It was my partners first time snorkelling and he wasn't confident to venture far from the boat, so after our Marine Tour, Kylie went back and toed him out and gave him a personal tour, this really made his day. He even got to see a sea turtle.
The service from the crew was amazing, they really looked after us the whole day.

My wife an I had an amazing experience on this boat. very comfortable boat with great facilities and equipment. We visited 3 snorkel sites and each of them were amazing. The schedule was great, there was plenty of time at each site. The crew were very helpful. My wife had a bit of an issue with her mask which kept filling with water and they didn't stop until it was fixed. They ended up giving her a slightly different type of mask with a different shape and it did the trick, stopped the leak.
The boat was great it has a platform that lowers into the water to give you really good access in and out of the water.

The trip itself was great and the dive guides were fantastic. Tammi and Addi really made a nervous diver feel completely comfortable in the water and I'm so grateful for it. There was a snorkel tour too and the staff pointed out things I would have missed on my own (like a lion fish!) The dive sites were beautiful and the equipment was top quality. No leaky masks here!
The only downside (which is beyond their control) is that it is a long day of sea sickness if you are prone to motion sickness. This boat is a catamaran AKA a vomit comet. The reef is WELL worth a bit of sea sickness but make sure you take sea sickness pills. Beware when booking as the company have a high minimum number and will cancel on you if they don't meet it, no matter how inconvenient this is for you.

We spent the day out at Agincourt Reef aboard Silversonic and had a great day.
We booked 3 certified dives and were allocated Gordon as our dive guide. Gordon was friendly, professional and made sure everyone was safe and comfortable. We had a mix of experience in our group of 8, but Gordon ensured the novice divers went back to the boat when required and the more experienced divers were able to continue for longer.
The stinger suits and dive equipment were included in the price, so we just took our own masks and dive computers.
The buffet lunch was very good, lots of food and a decent selection of hot and cold dishes was provided.
Overall it was a very good day, all of the staff were friendly and accommodating.

We have just had three day trips with Silversonic - absolutely fabulous. From the check in desk to all the boat crew, the staff were friendly and very helpful. The dive deck was well organised and they happily assisted my wife to get the right equipment. The dive gear was first rate and we each had our own dive computer. The ‘galley crew’ were a delight and made a very special day for both of us even more special! Let us not forget the ‘birthday cake’!!!!
Every day we went to three different dive sites so we got to experience some amazing sites. Each one had it’s own highlight, but the most memorable for me was the Leafy Scorpion Fish - well spotted Simon. We managed to find Nemo many times 😀.

The highlight of our trip to Cairns so far! Amazing day spent snorkeling at 3 different sites. We all had a great time and kids buzzing about all the fish they saw (especially those crazy trigger fish!). Did 2x dives as well which was a fantastic experience.
Awesome crew both in and out of the water, especially Lilia in the galley who went out of her way to make sure everyone was well looked after.
Highly recommend and we will definitely be back for more!

My brief to the information site that we booked out tour to the Great Barrier Reef through was I wanted as much time on the water as possible and I didn’t want to be put on a pontoon with hundreds of people and kids in submarines or anything else- all I wanted to do is snorkel.
So the Quick Silver Group was recommended by them. We were booked on the Silver Sonic boat out of Port Douglas. It was an hour and a half out to Argincourt reef system. Our boat was about ¾ full. The boat was large, smooth and comfortable. We were fitted up with mask, snorkel and stinger suit before we got out there. There was tea/coffee, snacks and lunch provided. The lunch was relatively simple but adequate. There was plenty of it.
It was an easy move from the boat into the water each stop – we had 3. The water was clear- visibility was huge. The fish life was prolific and the coral varied. We saw a turtle but no sharks. The water was beautifully warm. We had no stings that we were aware of. But when we got back to our hotel and over the next few days, we had got numerous lice bites that were extremely itchy.
The last snorkel, we were offered a tour with the marine biologist on board. We took them up on this offer and it was so interesting- all sorts of things pointed out that we hadn’t even thought of.
We left port at about 8.30am and we were back by 4.30pm.
We felt well cared for, catered for and overall it was a great day

HI AucklandWiz,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review of your time and experiences with us. We are glad to hear that you had a great day and had the opportunity to snorkel and also get involved with the snorkel tour! Hopefully, we see you again in the future if you have another chance to get out and explore the Great Barrier Reef- ideally without the lice next time!
Kind regards,
Team QSG

Yes. but i would check with the boat first to make sure they accommodate. and also look for a boat with less divers

I am looking at your tour for April. I have a 10 year old and a 3 year old and I will be 6 months pregnant. My husband would like to try the one time discovery scuba but we didn't see that as an option for only one adult to do a discovery scuba. is that possible?
Written 25 February 2022
Hi Nicole
Sorry, I do not know of this discovery scuba. Do you mean the intro diving?
I have never done a scuba dive (as yet) but this boat lets you do it. You have options on what diving to do including an intro guide.
All I can say is Silversonic is THE boat from Port Douglas to actually do diving.
I am not sure how you will cope with a 3 year old and being 6 months pregnant. I personally would not put a 3 year old in to snorkel (which is what you can do if you do not pay for a dive). Your 10 year old will be fine as long as confident in the water. The alternative is for you to go out on the big Quick Silver boat to the Ponton with both kids and let you partner have a day out alone on Silver Sonic :)
I hope this helps.

We are bringing our two children aged 12 and 14 and my husband and I and we all wish to snorkel but my mother, who would also like to come, won't be getting in the water. What activities do you have on board for those who wish to come and see the reef from the boat?
