      Fabulous day with Calypso!
Just back from a reef snorkelling trip with Calypso. What an awesome day from start to finish! We were lucky in that there were only 22 passengers so it was like a private charter. The boat was a catamaran with lots of space. Clean and comfy. All equipment you need is provided; mask, snorkel, fins and stinger suit. Good quality kit and pretty new. All the crew were really friendly and helpful but we had most interaction with Claudia and Linnea. Claudia did the safety briefing, told us where were going and took all the fabulous pictures. She was great; witty and very helpful. Linnea took us on a reef tour and took care of food and beverages. She was very helpful and friendly too. Lunch was great with lots of items for vegetarians (as I am). We had 3 separate 1hr snorkelling stops on Opal reef. The visibility was great and the coral was so colourful, varied and beautiful. Saw lots of wildlife and saw a reef shark too! It was mesmerising. Claudia took lots of pictures of the passengers on the boat and in the water. The photos she took were stunning! Wonderful colours and great clarity. We bought all the pictures of us and the pictures she took of the reef. So happy! Very reasonable price for the photos. Another member of the crew gave a good talk about the reef and its wildlife. Very informative. Positives: equipment, boat, organisation, food and beverages, snorkelling stops, crew, photos Negatives: nothing we could think of. In summary, Calypso is a great outfit to explore the fabulous, sensational GBR. This was such a memorable day and I’m so glad to have chosen Calypso. Highly recommend. Great thanks to Claudia and Linnea.

Magical Experience of a Lifetime! Just do it!
I mean, you can’t go all the way to Australia without snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef. This was the top highlight for all of us. I love that they showed us how to use the snorkeling gear they provided, had spray for the masks so we could see better underwater, fitted us carefully for the flippers and suits, and provided life vests and pool noodles to help us have a great experience. We boarded the Calypso for an hour ride out to the GBR. Our first stop was the Stonehenge Reef where we snorkeled for an hour, then had hot tea and snacks waiting for us when we finished. It felt like I was on the set of Finding Nemo, swimming around and seeing everything through Nemo's eyes. At one point, I was surrounded by an entire school of fish, the sun was on my face, and I was delighted beyond belief. It was absolutely magical. Next was a 30-minute ride over to Halloween Reef for another hour of snorkeling. Once we came back in we were definitely ready for lunch, which was all prepped for us. Sandwiches, potato salad, and fruit. One more 30-minute ride and we were at our last reef for the day, Advanced Bommie. We were able to snorkel all around it and see amazing schools of fish, parrotfish, and so many others! It was delightful! Pro tip: They have underwater cameras for rent. Just do it. I didn't realize they had them until it was too late. Staff does take a few action pictures, but none were taken of me individually like the others, so I was bummed about that. Be sure to find the photographer on the first stop and have her take your pix. But also, just get the underwater camera and you can take all the pix you want!

      Superb trip with Calypso
Had a superb trip out to the reef with Calypso. We were lucky to be in a very small group which enhanced the whole experience and weather was also kinder than forecast suggested. A very well organised trip with staff who clearly love the reef and want to share their knowledge They were all great but special thanks to Bruno who made the diving experience wonderful

If you haven’t experienced the Great Barrier Reef, this full day tour is a must do. Just WOW ❤️
We were lucky enough to have a look at the weather forecast and probably picked the calmest day with perfect visibility possible. What an experience!

Highly recommend Calypso for inner or outer Great Barrier Reef
We highly recommend this all-day Outer Reef and half day inner reef snorkeling trip with Calypso . Large, spacious, stable ships, not crowded, wonderfully friendly and informative crew, great safety emphasis over and over. Coral and whole experience was tremendous. “Go!”

Best experience on my 2-week Australia trip
This was my first SCUBA trip in Australia. Some people onboard booked snorkeling while others were going to do SCUBA. The seas were rough but I had taken thankfully taken Dramamine. Even with that, I thought I was on the verge of getting sick when we finally got to the dive site. We went to 3 different locations and I did 3 dives. It was amazing. I did fine and it makes me want to do diving more often. Aside from the coral itself, highlights included a thornback stingray, large humpback wrasses, Moorish idols, and a giant clam. I had great dive masters, an Australian man named Darcy and an Argentinian woman named Pam. They were absolutely amazing and helped me regain my confidence as it had been several years since my last dive. This trip was the highlight of my 2-week trip to Australia.

Without a doubt, the experience itself is truly beautiful and highly recommended (we dived two times), but for me and my friend, what made this day unforgettable was Irene!! One of the dive instructors, She is amazing, super kind, and attentive to every detail at all times!! We felt seen and safe with her, thank you Irene 💛

Fabulous day out on the reef!
Loved it! The tour was well run, we went to 3 snorkel sites all were fabulous! The guided snorkel tour was amazing where we learnt a bit about the marine life, and then there was also a talk on the boat. Highly recommend we had a fabulous day out on the reef.

Calypso Barrier Reef Cruise from Port Douglas
The team on this boat are amazing. My travel agent booked a barrier reef tour with his company The boat was well equipped and great lunch and tea and cake. We are not great swimmers but the staff helped us with life jackets and with our noodles floats. We saw amazing life in sea bed while snorkeling. It did help that the weather was perfect Well done to all staff and the company for amazing time we had.

This 1/2 snorkelling trip from Port Douglas could not have been better! The skipper, ably assisted by Diver Dan and the great snorkelling instructor were super-motivated (to get back to what they love doing after iso), very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. During the 4-hour tour we learnt about the Low Isles, their creation, evolution and history eg Woody Island is a mangrove island but the much smaller Low Isle is a coral cay, first lighthouse on the Great Barrier Reef etc, we went for a 45 minute snorkel when the instructor was able to show us a turtle, and where the reef was renewing itself after 2 cyclones and a bleaching event (very good to see), and a short island tour with history talk from Dan. All very interesting, plus morning tea and muffins! Wet suits and snorkel gear were all provided, pre-sanitized. What more could you want?

The Low Isles afternoon cruise was incredible! The team, Sam, Steve and Ludi, were all friendly, hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. Steve took the time to sit down and answer all our questions, explaining in detail what coral is, how it gets its colour, what ‘bleaching’ means and what we could expect to see. Ludi was our guide in the water and pointed out some incredible sea life. They were all really entertaining to listen to, even the safety talk was delivered in such a way as to make you want to listen! All in all, the entire experience was one that we will never forget. If you are keen to go out on a tour, I can’t recommend these guys enough!! We can’t wait to come back and do it with them again!

We lucked out with the conditions, but we were even luckier in choosing this trip. Despite a big snorkelling contingent (18 or so) Davina was a brilliant guide who led us to several turtles and pointed us to great, unexpected experiences like sharks hunting in the shallows. We couldn’t have asked for anything more, but her snorkelling tips were really helpful for the beginners. A total professional, even after an injury! My partner’s only goal was to see a turtle, and it was well and truly realised despite her being prone to seasickness (she took tablets before we departed and was fine) and snorkelling anxieties. Geoff and Sam were just as great in making our morning one we won’t forget.

Minimum effort by two female staff members but boat driver Ricky's glass bottom boat narrative was excellent.
Disappointments: couldn't believe they tried to charge a lady $3 for a sea-sick table considering how expensive the tour is (we did a 3 hr cruise round Bruny Island in Tasmania for only $135 (compared to $295) and sea-sick tablets were handed out free to everyone without needing to ask).
My daughter wasted half of her snorkel time teaching me as the staff showed no interest beyond instructions on fitting mask. When my daughter did finally get to snorkel she was reluctant to venture too far away as she was by herself while staff watched from beach so she didn't get to see much at all.
As the tour was full they had to take people back to the boat in 2 lots which meant by the time we were on board the "hot drink" consisted of a quarter full thermos of warm water and almost empty bottle of milk, only enough for a cup of tea of sorts for one, meaning my poor disillusioned daughter missed out again on the hot chocolate she had been looking forward to. Surely this could be done better even if a full load of people?
On a good note - the muffins were delicious so we were naughty and helped ourselves to 2.
My honest verdict: I wouldn't bother unless you are an experienced snorkeler or perhaps are lucky enough to be part of a smaller group, otherwise not worth the money. My daughter had previously done the Outer Island Tour with another company and said it was much better.

After boarding and settling in, the crew mingled with the guests and discussed what they wanted from the tour. Whilst I was keen to give snorkelling a go, the guide put a lot of pressure on my daughter to give it a go, which she wasn’t confident on doing, I appreciate that they want us to enjoy the experience as much as possible but the pressure he put on both my daughter and my disabled husband to “have a go” left a bad taste in our mouth. Even making a comment that “I knew was going to have problems with your family as soon as you boarded!” I understand this was just innocent banter but it almost bordered on bullying and certainly made my family uncomfortable. I took the opportunity to snorkel and it was an amazing experience and he certainly helped me get started and feel comfortable in the water. But our intention was always to do the glass bottom boat, which was a great experience and the guide was very knowledgeable. and enjoy the island. This experience was spoilt somewhat by the pressure to get in the water and snorkel.

Hi Donna, Thanks very much for your feedback. I am sorry to read your family felt pressurised by a crew member to do the snorkelling. Like you have suggested, all our crew members want our customers to get the best possible experience out of their time with us, however at no point do we want our passengers to feel uncomfortable about doing so. I can advise the crew member you are referring to has read your review and already reached out to the marine operations management whom in turn has contacted myself as he wanted to convey his sincerest apologies to you as in no way did he want you leaving with a poor view of the product and his service. You'll see we are a proud company that prides itself on product and service which is why we get so many 5 star reviews. It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed the snorkelling yourself and everyone all enjoyed the Glass bottom boat experience. Once again please accept our apologies for any pressure felt and hope you enjoyed your remaining time in the far north. Thanks and regards, Chris

My husband and I did the half day morning snorkel with calypso cruises and it far exceeded all of our expectations! The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and fun! They made the experience that bit more enjoyable with all of their knowledge of the marine life and we definitely felt at ease having them near by during our snorkel(: the snorkel itself was again absolutely phenomenal, we saw so many beautiful animals. The snorkelling equipment was of great quality and easy to use. 10/10 would recommend, will definitely be doing this one again when we come back!(:

Thank you to Ricky, Taylor and Davina for a awesome half day out at Low Isles. I was with two friends (one of which was pregnant) and my 3yo daughter. Pleasant trip out to the island before we took the glass bottom boat to shore. Ricky was very knowledgeable on the coral reef surrounding the island and managed to find us a couple of turtles which I was super excited about. Then on shore we were able to snorkel off from the beach, my 3yo wasn’t into the mask so she mainly paddled on the beach but it was great how relaxed the animals were and how close they would come to shore. Highly recommend Calyso due to the smaller numbers on their trip, great staff allowing for more personalised interaction and I found the timing great as we were back to the Marina before midday but it felt that we had more than adequate time out at Low Isles.

We did the morning cruise with Bronte, Ludi and Sam. We were blessed with great weather and low wind. The crew were welcoming and friendly and made us feel very welcome. Their knowledge of the marine life as well as Low Isle was fantastic.
Loved that we got to choose either glass bottom boat or snorkelling to begin the day with, as 1 of our group wasn't a confident swimmer this worked well. The snorkelling equipment was great quality and the use of the pool noodle was awesome. Loved that wet suits and flotation where possible without additional costs.
The reef itself was amazing (skip Green Island and Fitzroy Island) I've never seen such a mix of hard and soft corals, as well as fish of every colour and size. We got to swim with 3 Green turtles!! After a short trip around the Island we boarded for muffins, fruit and warm drinks.
Absolutely fantastic morning, and we got back to Port in time for lunch and the remainder of the afternoon.
The crew where great, and again any experience like this is very dependent on weather and wind!

I visited with my 16-year-old daughter. It rained at the start but luckily the weather cleared. Not quite as sunny as we had hoped for but still very enjoyable. The crew were sensational as is the case with all Sunsail trips.
You moor off the low Isles which are spectacular and are then ferried to the beach. There is then a guided snorkel tour. We thought it was the best of the trip. Our guide saw an adult white tip reef shark although we missed it. We did however see two turtles swimming straight towards and a fairly spectacular giant clam.
We then had a very informative walk around the islands including the sombre spot where Steve Irwin passed away. Also the osprey nest in the Lighthouse.
The food was fine and there was a generous complimentary bar on the way back.
We were extremely well looked after. Decent value for money I thought.

What an amazing experience this was. The sea was a bit rough going out and the crew made sure we were as comfortable as we could be. Once near the island, we had the choice of a long snorkel time or a slower ride in the glass bottom boat with commentary. we chose that one and we glad we did. The skipper (Dave) was very knowledgeable and by the time we got to the island, we were ready to snorkel up and see what we could see. Using the pool noodles is a great advantage as you don't have to concentrate on staying afloat. We say reef sharks, turtles, heaps of fish and heaps of different coral. Would definitely recommend this activity.
