      Great crew, poor management
Booked 3 scuba dives to the Great Barrier Reef with Quicksilver. Only AFTER boarding and leaving shore, we were given medical forms to fill out. I listed two common medications for conditions which have no impact on my physical fitness, and was flagged and told I was unable to participate without a very specific set of medical paperwork. The crew did everything they could to accommodate. Apparently this is a recurring issue. While onboard I was able to get my doctor to email a note, which they were able to use to get approval in time for me to participate in the the last dive of the day. I am deeply appreciative of the efforts the crew went through to make this possible, because they were not obligated to. Upon return I tried to share some productive feedback with management, that the medical documentation requirements weren’t unreasonable, but should be clearly communicated in the booking flow or email confirmation so that future customers don’t have the same frustrating experience, and the crew isn’t repeatedly put in the position of having to deal with frustrated customers. The response was essentially “not our problem, it’s on the website (*we booked through a third party website), it’s the law (*their own website states that for certified divers it is NOT required by law), get out of my hair”. Would love to see a more constructive approach to this ongoing issue and update this review in response. Until then, I strongly recommend booking your dive elsewhere.

First class day with first class crew
Absolutely brilliant day! Plenty of space on the boat and pontoon. Quite choppy conditions and the crew could not have been nicer or more helpful. Snorkelling was excellent and thoroughly enjoyed the semi-submersible boat. The talk by the marine biologist on the way out was fantastic. Our son is Type 1 diabetic and we coukd not have felt more looked after and safe by every crew member we spoke to. Lifeguards were amazing, crew members put food aside for him to have when it was convenient around exercise and levels rather than a timed slot to eat and care given to him when ge wasn't feeling well. This is the third reef trip I have been on but the first time I have been with Quicksilver and if I ever have a fourth trip it will be with them - no hesitation. This crew go the extra mile- they even rescued my husbands hat when it blew off (even though he had been warned to hold onto it!) as it was a very sentimental one! Can't thank them enough.

Great outer reef experience with professional Quicksilver crew
This is a well run operation- the facilities and reef experience were great! This is a good way to experience the outer barrier reef if you are not an experienced diver.

      Overpriced...do something else!
Overpriced for what the trip offers. Too crowded. Food was not great... very limited choice. And stale cheese on offer for afternoon tea. Morning tea was just a few biscuits. And drinks are expensive. My advise... find a different trip We did a catamaran trip from Airlie Beach around the Whitsundays to Whitehaven beach... food was much better, only 60 people on board. Free soft drinks and alcohol if you wanted... nice breakfast on way out and cakes on way back. Beautiful beaches and snorkelling Much better value. Don't waste your hard earned cash on the quicksilver trip 🙄

      Unless scuba diving wouldn't bother.
Honestly, unless you scuba diving with them, don't bother going. Snorkelling is more of a side business for quick silver rather than you being treated the same as if you were a diver. I'm not saying the staff don't have passion for the marine side of things, it just wasn't portrayed across to us like other companies we went with and more as its all about money and getting the job done quick. Lack of communication/info, which was bad. We were shown how to put a life jacket on and man over board procedure, but at no point were we actually told what to do in case of emergency on the ship, etc. What to listen out for or where the meeting points are if there was one. I wear glasses and needed prescription snorkeling goggles (which were advertised that they do) although I had to find somebody to get me these as as I was just given normal ones and not asked even though I was wearing glasses. We had this trip booked & paided for 5 days before, we booked an introductory scuba dive each. There was no wavier sent to us to fill in before the trip, unlike other trips, but they had my contact number and email. Only once we had boarded and filled in a waiver 10 minutes before departing was I told I was unable to dive because of a medical condition as I had no medical note. Which i totally understand they have to be strict with, 100% agree but it could be better managed as if I was told this in advance, I could have been able to see a doctor and try and get one, but as we only did the wavier on the day, this was not at all possible. Disappointing to say the least. I suggest they send basic waviers out beforehand where able and a more informative one on the day. However, give credit to them. They were able to sort us out with refunding our fee paid for the dives. We only went with this company for the dive. If we had known this was not possible beforehand, we'd like to have booked with a different company from the start. A positive was that the spread of food provided was lovely!

Dont have to be young to do this
Amazing, everything went smoothly. Food was great and snorkeling was a lot easier than I imagined. I'd only been snorkeling once before some 20+ years ago. Wearing a 'stinger' suit was compulsory, but a lot safer to do so. Reef just looks like a patch of seaweed, and they do warn you that the travelogues showing incredibly bright coral colours are filmed at night, and under lights. Expect most of the things you see to have a blue tinge, but still incredibly worth doing.

Great Adventures Green Island Day Trip is fabulous!
We did a day trip from the Cairns Marina to Green Island with Great Adventures (who are owned by Quicksilver). We had to change our accomodation at short notice from Cairns to Trinity Beach. The tour had been booked from Cairns but Colin Thompson (a silver coach driver from Quicksilver) offered to pick us up and bring us into town, and then changed his schedule for our return trip so that we could make it to a planned dinner date the same evening. Colin made the inconvenience of changing locations so much easier for us. He is very kind and understanding. We recommend Great Adventures Green Island Day Trip., the water was smooth and clear and the staff so helpful. A beautiful day out.

Experience of a life time - book now
We travelled as a couple with my 82 year old mother. From start to finish this was an excellent experience and highly recommended. There was one crewman who was exceptionally good, so caring and made this an experience to remember for my mum as he wanted her to be able to enjoy a reef experience too. We went in the semi submersible (highly recommended and no extra charge), we even saw turtles, we then went in the water and mum was given care, attention and tips so that she could use a mask and snorkel and see the barrier reef from using a safety cord to hang on to and then later a viewing seat. Initially nervous at being well outside her comfort zone she then built up courage to swim out, rewarded with beautiful fish and coral around her. Lunch was lovely and plentiful, all crew helpful and friendly including bus drivers, kitchen staff and those collecting our lycra suits.

Best time I have had for a long time
Staff are fantastic. So glad we did this. My daughter enjoyed it as much as I did. Definitely doing this again and add a few extras on the trip. Lunch was alright not a huge salad fan or cold meat but can’t complain. Overall this was a highlight of our trip to port Douglas. It’s a must on your to do list

      Professional, courteous service
My wife and I were excited to travel interstate to Port Douglas to snorkel etc on the GB Reef. We booked many months prior but having arrived in Port Douglas I had to cancel, first my wife's ticket, and then mine as we had contracted covid. The staff were amazingly understanding and empathetic, which we appreciated. We will visit again to complete the outer reef experience.

      Gordon is excellent!
A very enjoyable experience with Gordon our dive master while scuba at the GBR! He ensured we were briefed and emphasized safety. He was very knowledgeable about the local species of animals and coral/sponges/etc.

We booked this tour from Quicksilver's office down at the marina in Port Douglas and were given a 15% discount for 4 of us booking.
We drove to the marina and parked up in the large Car Park alongside before going to register,no queuing involved and we were quickly on board the impressive Catamaran that was to take us out to the Pontoon that is located 70km off shore.
The Catamaran really is very spacious and has all the required amenities such as a good bar/cafe and clean toilets, there was ample seating and none of that annoying jostling involved to get good seats.
I spent the majority of the crossing out on the top deck enjoying the scenery and fresh air,but do be careful as it is a real sun trap so do wear protection. The journey out to the Pontoon takes around 90 minutes so plenty of time to relax.
Once at the Pontoon we made straight for the Snorkeling equipment to get kitted out, there are plenty of Quicksilver crew around at all times to help out if required.
I believe we had approximately 2-3 hours of time on the Pontoon and you can get in and out of the water at anytime,it never felt overcrowded in the water and there was an ample buoyed off area to explore,it really is an amazing experience and we did see plenty of Fish swimming amongst the Coral.
There are other activities to do on the Pontoon of which some incurred a further charge, lunch is served on the Catamaran buffet style, although we did not have ours until later on due to us being too busy Snorkeling.
They do also serve a late tea before departure so we didn't go hungry, the return journey again was thoroughly relaxing and was a good time to have a doze after the Snorkeling exertions.
An amazing day and an unforgettable experience,we also loved the nice touch when all of the crew lined up to bid their goodbyes as we disembarked.

Our family of 5 went on the tour to Agincourt reef and really loved it. It's all very organised with efficient equipment and suit distribution. The glass bottom boat tour is amazing as that was our first view of the reef, it can be a little claustrophobic though as it's enclosed. We saw several turtles on that boat tour. The company was operating at reduced capacity due to Covid and that made it very comfortable for guests, we enjoyed the space. We then had lunch, my daughter was seasick after the trip out there and the glass boat tour but the staff were fantastic at helping her. The snorkeling was incredible and we had wonderful clear vision of the reef. You will feel very safe as you're watched by lifeguards the whole time and there are clear boundaries about where you can snorkel out to. Swam with turtles up close and so many fish and coral. Breathtaking. Everyone should do this at least once in their life.
If I could mention a couple of aspects we were disappointed with, that still didn't take away from our 5 star rating but might be improved on, the lunch was not really very appetising. We did a second tour with another company that week and their lunch was similar but so much better than Quicksilver. We also felt a bit pressured by the man selling helicopter rides on board. We politely said no but he kept trying to talk us into it, that was unpleasant. I was also a bit disappointed when the marine biologist said at the end of her introduction to come and ask any questions, so I waited for a time when she was not busy, just sitting down and asked if she could come and answer some questions about sharks that a nervous first-time snorkeling family member had, but she instead told me the other marine biologist was giving a talk about them upstairs and we should go and listen to that. then she continued to sit doing nothing. It wasn't really an option to go upstairs as it was difficult to walk around the boat when it was moving and we'd already tried to walk up there. And the photos are insanely expensive, again we went on another tour that week with a company who took 105 action photos of us and gave them all to every tour member for free on their website. Much better way to do business.
But all in all we thoroughly recommend this tour to everyone, they are a very professional company who take safety seriously and will provide you with an incredible experience of one of the great wonders of the world.

I would first of all like to say this is a wonderful company and I highly recommend them for Great Barrier Reef tours. The staff are truly amazing and make your day and can’t do enough for you.

My original tour from cairns was cancelled due to low numbers, but they upgraded me at no extra cost to the port Douglas one and offered hotel pickup to get me there. I was very impressed.

There was however issues with reservations. I was told they could not pick me up from my hotel due to “covid” the day before and not having enough resources, and I’d have to make my way to a nearby hotel. It was extremely hot so I got in an Uber. As I could not walk the 2km. I could not get to the hotel due to big roadworks. I was worried I’d miss the bus so I called reservations and made my way to another hotel. I ended up spending $25 on an Uber. The bus meets me and I told the driver what had happened and he said he had already picked up passengers from my hotel I was staying at before hand. So that was a complete waste of time. He said he would drop me home after the tour. So big mess up reservations! I know this happened to another lady I met too.

Otherwise the tour was amazing. Staff were soooooo good! Some of the nicest people. The only thing is if you don’t snorkel there aren’t many activities for you. I don’t like snorkelling so I didn’t. I did the underwater observatory and the boat and that was awesome, but otherwise there was nothing else for me to do, so I got a bit bored sitting there watching the snorkellers. I wanted to do the helicopter or helmet diving but they weren’t available that day. That was disappointing and I feel we should have been told before the tour if those activities weren’t available.

It was a good day but you need to have a few more options for the non snorkellers, otherwise it’s a long day.

Great safety and social distancing measures in place.

We booked this trip because it had options for non swimmers otherwise I wouldn't really recommend it. The underwater submarine and walk was good for the people with us who didn't want to get into the water. There was the opportunity though for beginners to jump into the water if they wanted too as there were life jackets and floatation devices available. Everything was provided for snorkelling and an area was roped off to make sure no one floated away with life guards overlooking the water. Lunch was a buffet with plenty of food for everyone.

There are other optional extras but make sure you book in early. I tried to sign up for the beginner scuba diving but I was told it was booked out even though I lined up as soon as the announcement was made to go sign up. I'm not sure if there was a way to book before getting on the tour but I'd recommend doing it that way.

Definitely get to the ship early to make sure you get a seat otherwise you may get stuck standing for the whole trip out to the reef. Try and make your own way to the dock as the tour provided transport got us there a bit late. Once the boat docked it felt a little less crowded but I would recommend claiming a table inside the boat for a spot for lunch and then a spot back.

Overall it wasn't a bad trip if you don't mind the 200+ other travellers, especially if there is a cruise ship that has docked. It is good way to see the Great Barrier Reef if you have non swimmers with you otherwise I'd recommend looking into smaller tours out to the reef.

I have now been on 4 Outer Reef Cruises from Port Douglas and have to say that this one supercedes all the others.
The reason I had never gone on QuickSilver was because I thought their boats were too big, therefore the y can hold many more passangers than the smaller ones. This may be so, but when I went out the other day, there was a maximum of about 80 or so people and it really didnt feel like that.
The boat was spotless; staff were lovely and food was delicious and plenty of it.
We arrived at Agincourt Reef an hour and a half after leaving Port Douglas. The weather was calm and sunny. We passed a pod of Dolphons on our way.
Quicksilver have a large Pontoon at this Reef which was very impressive. I never knew this was here!
In the price of my ticket you got to go in the subwater boat (or whatever it is called) so that youo can view the coral and sealife without getting wet. We even glimpsed a Turtle. You also get to snorkle for up to 3 hours (if thats all you want to do). The food and all snorkel gear (including a stinger suit ... which is a good idea at this time of the year). You do have the option to do other things but they will cost you extra.
Another lovely event was the fish feeding. You can view this from out or in the water. I was in the water. Awesome experience :)
Shannon was the onboard photograoher, who took lovely pictures of us all in and out of the water. These can be bought on the day and are a bit pricy but if you are alone as like me, its nice to have a good photo of oneself as posterity.
I met some lovely people on this day out and I thoroughly had an excellent time.
This trip is great for both those who want to be in the water and those that dont. If you dont want to go in the water then it will be a very long day for you. There were even a couple of babies on this trip and I did see one go in the water with its parents.
I have said this trip is for families but its actually great for everyone (I could only choose one option).

Our planned day (three dives for me and snorkelling for my partner) was changed after boat damage forced Quicksilver to accommodate us on a platform for the day instead, with two dives. It was a stellar effort under tough circumstances, and that professionalism extended to every second of our day. Hiromi was a great dive master and my partner’s snorkelling was top shelf despite her initial hesitations. Having dived with the company out of Cairns too, I’d wholeheartedly recommend them for anyone keen for a day on the water.

Was a great option for us with an infant, toddler, middle aged couple and grandparent in one trip, probably the only option. The trip out was quick and very stable. Arriving at the platform is a little hectic, with people rushing for suits and a table to leave their gear. There was no shortage of equipment and everything was clean and modern. Food was ok for this type of experience.
One of us took the guided snorkel which was excellent and highly recommended. I booked 2 dives but after discussing with the team reduced to 1 dive as I wouldn't have been able to spend anytime with the family with both dives, enjoyable but I've dived better areas of reef.
The semi submersible trip was great and my toddler loved it, plenty to see.
It was a busy trip but one we enjoyed as we were all together. Nice and stable for those family members who aren't great on the water, but if you have a stern constitution and high aspirations a smaller boat with a more personal approach and flexible destination maybe a better bet.

Hi nickh565, Thank you for taking the time to leave a detailed review of your experiences with us. We are glad to hear that our experience catered well to the diverse needs of your group. You're right, the semi-submersible is perfect with the young ones- it's a great way to show them the Reef without the stress of getting them into the water itself. Kind regards, Team QSG

We took this tour as part of a Make a Wish trip for my daughter. The staff knew we were sent by the Make a Wish foundation and treated us with so much kindness and generosity. We really appreciated it!
The semi-submersible boats are a lot of fun and allow you an up close view of a lot of the reef life, with the guide giving good information about what you're seeing.
The snorkeling area was, admittedly, quite crowded and I didn't love that aspect. However, once we moved beyond the roped off zones, we had a much more enjoyable experience.
The boat is nice and big, so you don't feel a lot of the waves, which helps if you get sea sick.
The only negative thing I have to say is that the lunch was really unappetizing. There wasn't much variety and we found it difficult to find anything that our kids would eat (or that we wanted ourselves).
On the plus side, they have lots of options and they provide the stinger suits, fins, and snorkels and they even had defogging spray available for everyone to use. We really enjoyed our day on the reef!

This was a well organised day out and the chance to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef despite the number of guests! A comfortable boat trip to the floating station took about 90 mins, helpful friendly staff took care of everything. Safety was paramount and plenty of staff took care of everyone from nervous swimmers to experienced divers, there was something for everyone. Lunch was fresh and plentiful. Fantastic way to experience the Great Barrier Reef. Tip : We were on a cruise but signed up direct with Quicksilver and saved over £100 per person and were on the same boat as other cruise ship passengers who paid through the cruise ship for exactly the same experience.

This was the worst experience we had. Totally commercial and really poor customer service. Crew was focusses only on money. First of all, website did bot mention that you need to be a swimmer to take introductory assisted snorkel tour. We were surprised to find that on the cruise itself and on top of that a marine biologist by the name of Alicia came and informed this. This Alicia lady was totally arrogant and did bot make my wife and sister comfortable by any sorts. She offered a small tour as a favour and on top of that she said “ she is not life guard and she is not snorkelling guide”. After hearing this that in case of emergency, she will call lifeguards, who will get a motivation? She did not take any effort to make ladies comfortable and was really arrogant in answering. Eventually my wife could not go as no effort was taken by Alicia. She did not even refund the money and flatly refused it.

Good facilities and vessel but really poor customer service by entire crew. All of them were clearly after money. Really bad experience.
Will bot recommend this to anybody. On the contrary, we had such a good experience of “Reef Experience” tour. Very helpful and excellent customer service.
