- Philwym00A great afternoon out.A lovely half day out. A trip from Port Douglas to the Low Isles. A pleasant boat journey to the Low Isles and back. We took the option of the glass bottom boat from the cruiser to the shore and the captain made sure there was plenty to see and was also very informative and explained things well. We snorkelled from the beach which was great for the less experienced . Excellent instructions from the crew.
- cassandradU4660VC00Low Ilse half a day tripWe had the most amazing experience. Jorg, Phoebe and Acacia were very knowledgeable and went above and beyond to make this trip fun and memorable. A special thanks goes out to Acacia who took time to have a one on one snorkelling lesson with me and made me feel comfortable. What a breath taking experience. All three of them had a great sense of humour and the time just flew. Thanks guys, you’ll were awesome 👏👏👏Cassandra
- 627joshr00Must do while in port Douglas !Recommend this highly to anyone . Staff were highly knowledgeable and friendly. The scuba was fantastic lots to see - bucket list item for me Ticket off , particaly seeing and swimming over Many turtles. Just incredible ❤️
- staci_xox00100% Recommend!Absolutely fantastic experience. Super quick to get out to the island so no need to worry about sea sickness etc, the boats nice and fast. The tour guides Jorg, Phoebe and Akashia were really helpful and knowledgeable. We did the glass bottom boat tour first where Jorg taught us about the different corals and species of fish. Then the snorkeling was brilliant saw Green Sea Turtles, loads of different fish and even a couple of reef sharks. It is definitely a tour that anyone can enjoy no matter their swimming capabilities.
- D6766RDalana00Bucket list tick 👌We were first time snorkellers, in our 60's. We couldn't have picked a better team to go with. Very safety conscious, helpful and friendly. Their knowledge of the reef and everything in it was wonderful. We will definately be doing it again and recommend it to anyone who is a bit unsure about doing it. You won't regret it. 😃
- E5465YLhenryn00Great time!My husband and I recently went on the morning 1/2 day cruise and had a fantastic time. After a 40 minute ride to the Low Isles, we enjoyed a glass bottom boat tour, learning about the reef and its inhabitants. We then had time to snorkel directly from the beach. Lycra suits were provided to protect against “stingers”, although we did not encounter any. The water was calm and clear, with a very mild current, which made it easy for us to navigate over the reef, as 74 year old casual snorkelers. We saw lots of colorful fish, and even had a green turtle swim along side of us. The staff was courteous, knowledgeable, helpful, and accommodating. Great tour!
- LorelleT1700First time snorkellingWas a great start for some who has never snorkeled before, the crew on board were very informative and ensured everyone was safe and comfortable at all times. We saw 2 green sea turtles, one reef shark and loads of fish. 🐢🐢🦈
- ianmrp00The staff were amazingI was just like to commend all staff who made this trip memorable I would like to congratulate them on their passion & team work
- 125myfanwyf00Amazing - I will remember it foreverIt was an amazing great experience for myself (60yrs) and daughter (30yrs) - very suitable for all ages as it caters for people who may not be confident to go in the water, to confident snorkelers. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, and we saw a turtle which was our dream. Thank you to the great team at Calypso!!
- 463mitchellt00Highly Recommended!!!Had a great time with my wife, 4 yr old girl and 2 yr old boy. The staff of Jorg, Phoebe and Kevin were very professional and made for an enjoyable experience. The coral and sea life was like nothing I had seen before and were saw a few turtles as well! Couldn’t recommend this tour enough!
- MoyaB1800Totally enjoyable! We did this tour recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. The crew were all helpful and informative. Included a glass bottom boat tour, snorkelling, a quick walk to the lighthouse and morning tea when we got back on board for trip home. Would totally recommend!
- Juli S00Half Day ExcursionExcellent day out with knowledgeable guides. Lots of information and support for those new to snorkelling. Boat well provisioned with snacks (including for dietary needs) & motion sickness medication.
- Sophie T00Thoroughly enjoyable tour.We did the 7.30 am snorkelling trip at the Low Isles today (30th October). The crew were really helpful and informative. We saw lots of beautiful fish and even a small black reef tip. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip and were so glad we did it. Sophie & Esme.
- 5TEVEN00Low Isles 1/2 day - excellentLow Isles half day with slipper Kevin and his crew. Comfortable, swift, friendly, very competent, lovely muffins and fruit… just ready an excellent experience all in all. We’re very critical travellers and can truly say that the whole trip was worth the $229 pp. would definitely use them again for a larger trip.
- Brooke R00Reef Snorkeling from the Beach! Great Family Option!Great Family Reef option! We were looking for an afternoon option and Calypso’s Low Island tour was great for our family - 7yo, 10yo, 14yo, Mum, Dad & Nan! Jorg, Taylah & Jordan looked after us, lots of local knowledge and knew all the best spots! Lots of beautiful turtles as well as a myriad of tropical reef fish. We didn’t want to get out of the water! Lots of things to do, kids loved the glass bottom boat, and just coming and going from beach access to the water. Hint - take goggles/masks your kids are comfortable with already, the snorkel mask can be tricky for them, but they are not required to see some of the turtles just a metre from shore!

Definitely a must do when visiting North Queensland. The staff were excellent - all very experienced and informative. We were taken to 3 areas of Opal Reef. The staff were extremely tentative, constantly doing a head count, and those staff who were not in the water with the guests, the others were watching, ensuring we were safe. All safety measures were well explained to us too. We were provided with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea in the cost, with the availability of alcohol on the return trip, if you wanted. It was a windy day and the skipper took a safe route to assist those who may have had a tendency to be sea sick. There are lots of operators to choose from, but we were very happy with our tour. There was the added BONUS of a professional photographer onboard, who photographed us underwater - a great souvenir of a wonderful day on the water!

We visited once before in 2014, and we’re really pleased to say Calypso is still a fun, chill, informative experience and well worth the money. It’d been a couple of years since our last dive, but Pam did a great job reminding us of the important bits and pointing out some fascinating sealife on our 2 dives including 2 lionfish! We also saw a small reef shark on our snorkel which was awesome. Thanks guys!

Fantastic day trip to see some of the GBR. Booked this trip as wanted my partner to try out scuba diving to see if we wanted to take the plunge of going down the path of getting certified. While the weather wasn't on its best behaviour, loved our trip.
Jorg was fantastic, taking us down on two introductory dives. By the end of the second dive, we didn't want to stop. The crew en masse were fantastic, while it's a biggish boat, it does feel like a personalised experience. Would highly recommend if you want to try out scuba diving, and while your wallet may not like it, definitely 2+ dives if you can. We were able to get a second dive but naturally, very likely dependent on availability.

The Calypso 1/2 day snorkel tour starts on the perfect sized boat, high quality, safe clean and nice, with probably 35 passengers and a very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful and capable staff. Half day is the perfect length to enjoy a nice day without getting fully exhausted. The captain took us on a glass bottom boat ride once we arrived at our location; he shared his immense knowledge and was very interesting. We then went snorkeling and saw many fish. It was such a pleasant experience, due to the very qualified and friendly captain and staff. Thank you!

Excellent experience and very highly recommended. Calypso is much better value than Quicksilver, as you get to visit 3 places on the reef. Seb and his crew were amazing. They made everyone feel very welcome and took the time to share their marine knowledge. My husband and teenage daughter also did an introductory dive with Aggie. She was highly experienced, professional and kind. The food provided on the cruise was delicious, with a good quality choice of meats and salads. The boat was great, with lots of available seating. Excellent quality equipment was also provided on the day, in terms of wetsuits and snorkelling gear. Overall a perfect experience, with lots of time provided to explore the beautiful reef. Well done to all the Calypso crew!! We will certainly be back.

We had a fabulous day with Calypso. They are so well organised. Everyone got fitted quickly and easily with flippers, snorkels and dive gear. We had a great introductory session to diving and they take you down in groups of 4. All were very cheerful and knew we were all a bit nervous but they made us feel comfortable. They kept the boat clean and tidy and we enjoyed a nice lunch. The photos were so clear so it’s well worth paying a little extra so you can bring that memory home. Thanks Calypso - it was a great day.

My family and I spent a great day out on the reef with Calypso in July 2020 and I can highly recommend them. I am a pretty experienced certified diver and have been on many dive trips in and outside Australia. Deb, Pamela and the rest of the dive team at Calypso got it just about spot on with me - making sure I was all ok without overdoing it and with my daughter who had 2 introductory dives - managing her experience and safety very professionally. The rest of my family had some pretty awesome snorkeling. There were some interesting marine discussions and nice food supplied. All the staff were very personable and friendly. We will be back!

Thanks for the in depth feedback Captain :)
It's great to read our crew are taking great care of our passengers and making them feel comfortable during their experience. We have some of the best crew in the business on board Calypso.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

We travelled to the outer barrier reef with the Calypso crew and had a fantastic day. The boat was clean and spacious with room to sit inside or outside. We were a group of 4 adults and a teenager and a 5 year old. The teenager who didnt speak english did his first ever introductory dive with instruction in Spanish and loved every minute of it. Our 5 year old snorkled for the first time and when she started getting scared, Rob one of the crew members, took her under his wing and took her on a guided snorkel to see turtles. He made a friend for life and she happily followed him around for the rest of the day allowing us to relax and enjoy the reef. The food was good too and the day passed too quickly. The crew were all absolutely lovely and really made our experience. Thank you The Da Costa family

We went on a day with quite intense winds and and gray skies. Not ideal weather but didn’t want to miss out. Given the size of the boat it was the only few that could actually go to the reef that day. We were willing to take our chances and I’m so glad we did.
From the moment you get on the boat to take off, you feel very cared for by the team at calypso. They are extreme professionals and didn’t seem phased at all by the intense weather (I’m talking boat rocking side to side for the majority of the trip, people vomiting from sea sickness, raining when you snorkel and dark cloudy skies). The team were also really knowledgeable, providing lots of cool facts about the reef and marine life.
The food was great too / mostly healthy and LOTS of it! Morning tea was fruit with some yummy museli slice, lunches included some grilled chicken, deli meats and a roll which you could fill with salad and ham. Potato salad too. Milo, coffee and tea also available all day. Afternoon tea was cheese cake and more fruit. Very delicious! You won’t go hungry on this boat. Really good value for money.
If you aren’t shy of crowds, this is the tour for you. With the boat able to take up to 50+ passengers, There may be some chances where you bump into other people when you are snorkelling. That would probably be the only downfall of the trip.
Despite the strong ocean currents we still snorkelled freely and I’m glad we did. The reefs and coral on the outer barrier reef were GORGEOUS!! Huge pieces of coral and lots of fishes swimming about.

We had just dived the S.S Yongala when we booked our dive trip out on the reef with Calypso. The boat was great, very clean and well-appointed with ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a rooftop sun deck for soaking up some sun.
We choose three dives (certified) and managed 3 perfect 45-minute dives in three different locations across Opal Reef. The first dive was Blue Bouy, followed by Bashful Bommie and Split Bommie, all of which were pristine sites with no coral bleaching and heaps of fish life, turtles, sharks, nudie branches... you name it.
Our divemaster guide was Rily. Super casual and confident, he knows his stuff and gets you around the dive with minimum fuss. A consummate professional, he was able to gauge the small dive group (5) to make sure the dive was suitable for everybody. We also had Cam, Sam, Pamala and Jodi (twice). They were all absolutely awesome!
Excellent day, highly recommend Calypso. Awesome Crew (Lisa the Skipper is the best. We loved this day so much we ended up making another 5 trips, and I even brought clients up from Brisbane.

Hi, I would email Calypso direct and ask them. From what little I know, you need to complete a medical questionnaire prior to diving .
Hope this helps
