    Low Isles Snorkelling Safari
There is no better way to explore the Great Barrier Reef than snorkelling off a beautiful catamaran ! We travelled to Port Douglas for a family holiday and the day trip to the Low Isles with the Sailaway team was a highlight. Jake the skipper, Louise and Kelly were amazing - taking the time to guide us through some really stunning reefs . They were extremely knowledgable and made the whole experience come to life. The food was amazing , fresh coffee and muffins and then a wonderful buffet lunch all locally prepared . If you do one trip when you are in Port Douglas go out for the day with Sailaway - a really unique experience.

    Lovely day
Staff friendly and professional. Emily at reception is more than great, super accommodating and helpful. The boat is spacious, clean and tidy. Not more than 20 ish people on board, makes it perfect to spend the day, not crowded, everyone has their own space. Lunch good. Would highly recommend that company!

    Amazing tour, well organised
We really enjoyed the tour it was a fabulous day with great visibility it was amazing. I’m a non-swimmer with a fear of water but I’ve always wanted to snorkel in the reef. I panicked when I got to the water but Liz & Tom were so kind, encouraging & helpful. I was so disappointed & upset when I could’ve go in by myself but Liz offered to bring me into the water with a float. It’s something I’ll never forget a dream come true thanks to Liz. The food was fabulous too. Would highly recommend this tour

    Experience not to be missed.
Met the owner on the jetty, keen to know how 6 Brits had come to book the reef experience, real nice guy. Crew on the boat were fantastic, very informative, friendly, made the whole experience a fabulous day out in perfect weather. Safety was absolutely paramount throughout the day. Oh not forgetting the buffet lunch provided, huge amount of food and snacks throughout the day.

    Superb GBR snorkelling experience
We had a fantastic day snorkelling the GBR with Sailaway. Although the day was not cheap it was great value because (a) we were at the outer part of the reef which is (I'm told) much better snorkelling than the inner reef and is a good 2-hour motor from Port Douglas and (b) there were only 40 or so of us on the boat, whereas some of the bigger boats in the Marina would have easily accommodated 5 times that number or more. So the snorkelling never felt crowded at all (just imagine snorkelling with 200-300 others at he same time!). Good informative talk on GBR from one of the crew en route. Lunch was good. Good safety from the crew, some of whom were with us in the water keeping an eye on us while we snorkelled. All equipment provided, including whole-body lycra stinger-suits, and all in good condition. We booked direct with Sailaway from the UK by email and it was hassle-free. Top marks and the first place we will book with next time we're in that part of Oz!

    Very pleasant sunset cruise
We took part in one of Sailaway's sunset cruises from Port Douglas, a pleasant 1.5 hour largely sailing trip, 45 minutes out and the same back. The crew made us welcome, and the catered food and drinks (first one included) were nice. A peaceful and satisfying way to end the day.

    Bucket list item
We have experienced a Quiksilver cruise to the reef before but this “small boat” adventure provided a far more personal feel. About 40 persons aboard, comfortably fitting into the cabin but with plenty of deck room to view from bow, sides, stern or even the spare Captain’s chair which the kids loved! Two reef sites visited, a glass bottom boat trip plus a sandbank walk; all managed safely and expertly by the young crew….who were all excellent and interacted very well with everyone aboard. An hour for each snorkel session was brilliant with all gear provided, wet suits, fins masks etc. Average lunch was acceptable with soft drinks etc available. Alcohol available but this is not a booze cruise it’s an informative, well managed and friendly cruise. The sails were up but our day was almost windless so engines required however I gained the impression (with the weather being pretty good here) that engines remain the “go to” propulsion format. Don’t assume this is a sailing trip…..it is not. Great experience, recommended as a bucket list item for us oldies!!

Perfect day on the Mackay Coral Cay
We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Sailaway to the Mackay Coral Cay. Our crew of Tess, Issac, Harry and the team worked hard to make our day perfect. They kept us safe, well fed, organised and informed on the biology of the reef. Such a fun and friendly team. The weather was perfect today. We saw some amazing colourful coral and so many species of fish. We even swam with a Green Turtle. We enjoyed our stop on a sand island. So special! We would definitely recommend Sailaway if you are visiting Port Douglas

Unforgettable Experience with the Sail Away
What a great experience! We spent the day with Erin, Guy and Alex exploring several locations of the Great Barrier Reef. Alex gave an interesting and informative talk about the reef, corals and what animals we might see. Guy went over what would be happening….wet suits were distributed (in the rare chance jellyfish would be present) and procedures in case of any problems. We enjoyed a yummy lunch …enough for seconds! Because of a bad experience years ago, I was very nervous about getting in the water. Erin allayed my fears with confidence, concern and humor. She stayed with me …encouraging me all the way …pointing out what all we were seeing….unbelievable corals of every shape and color, turtles, giant clams, gorgeous fish of every size and color, sea cucumbers etc…. We cannot speak highly enough of the crew and boat (very clean and comfortable). We met amazing people from all over the world and had a day we’ll never forget.

Snokelling trip to a Cay on the Great Barrier Reef
Highly recommend this trip - such a great afternoon's snorkelling and sailing. Fantastic crew, loads of instructions. Provided all gear from stinger suits through to snokelling gear. Swam with turtles and viewed beautiful fish and corals. Take a full day or half day; this is a fantastic company to tour with.

A great way to see the barrier reef.
This was a really good way to see the barrier reef - good for both beginners (like me) and for the more experienced snorkelers. The crew were great! They were really attentive, helpful and looked after the nervous (me) as well as the confident. Lunch was good - plenty of it (we'd taken snacks but didn't need them).

Loved loved loved this excursion! It’s a must!
This excursion was absolutely awesome from start to finish! The half day was perfect for us as we are from Canada and didn’t want a full day of sun exposure on our first day in Port Douglas. Having said that ,the catamaran had shaded spots to sit on the journey to and from Low Isles which was nice. Otherwise, sitting outside with the wind blowing gently was an absolute pleasure as well. The crew was awesome! Moby, Dani and crew were friendly, professional and informative from the get go. They work incredibly hard to make this tour a success for the client. The food was wonderful ! They fed us twice and each time there was lots of choice and quantity. Lots of non alcoholic beverage choice prior to snorkelling. The snorkelling portion was fabulous! History of low Isles was given and was very interesting. On the way back , there was a variety of beverages ( including alcohol ) that was free flowing. This was included in the cost and included beer and a variety of wine. We sailed into harbour watching the sunset and was a perfect way to end an absolutely perfect day!

Our group of 4 were highly disappointed by this sunset cruise & felt like we wasted our money. Admittedly nature was against us & the sunset was ruined by cloud cover which we understand cannot be helped, and also there was no wind so we couldn’t sail which also couldn’t be helped. So all we did was motor out of the marina & then they turned the engine off & we just sat in one spot for the next hour doing nothing. If there was no wind they should have used the engine to cruise out or up a bit further so we could have at least seen a bit more of the coast instead of just bobbing around doing nothing. The staff barely interacted with the passengers apart from the initial welcome & then handing out the one drink per person that was included, there was no acknowledgement of the lack of sunset or wind so we were left just sitting there doing nothing, until they started the engine & took us the the 10 minutes back to the marina. It was literally a waste of an hour & a half (& not to mention a waste of $75 each!) & I wouldn’t recommend this cruise because if nature isn’t on your side & there is no sunset & no wind then what’s the point? It’s not like you even get cruise around to see any of the coast.

During our Honeymoon my wife and I booked the Half Day Sunset Cruise at a cost of $600 based on the information provided on the Sailaway website being " Explore the island during the quiet time of day with a guided snorkel tour by a marine biologist, over the beautiful coral gardens and swim with turtles in their natural habitat. Continue to enjoy your afternoon on the glass bottom boat with an interesting reef talk by our skipper and join our experienced guide to explore the history and nature of Low Isles with an Island Heritage Walk. We serve a delicious light lunch, afternoon tea and a selection of canapés. Beverages are also included to top off the day and provide 1st class service - Our focus is on 1st class service, small numbers of guests " (copied from website) The actual cruise was 21 people with not enough seating for all on board and once underway we were informed that you could Snorkel or take the glass bottom boat NOT BOTH! To get anything to eat or drink you had to squeeze your way into the cabin, and at no time did the staff offer food or drinks, it was fend for yourself from start to finish. The glass bottom boat was filthy with water sloshing around the inside of the glass panel with your seat being the steel rail on the side of the tiny aluminum boat. A terrible waste of our time and money!

I’ve been on a few sunset sails. This one started off nicely, easy check in, complimentary drink and hand food. Once the trip began however the water was very choppy and everyone on the front deck got splashed and wet. I think we were all waiting for the boat to come to a stand-still so we could catch a break from wind and water sprays but the stand-still never came! My partner and I tried to make the most of it but we definitely came off soaking wet 😂 I would recommend that in future, if the water is choppier than normal, that the boat should spend a little more time in the stiller water at the start or end of the trip so the passengers can actually enjoy the sunset ❤️ Or that if the organisers know the water is gonna be choppy, send an email out beforehand so everyone who wore their nice dresses and skirts knows that they’re gonna get wrecked (we saw a couple of people beside us get their nice clothes soaked.)

We have been to PD many times and really enjoyed the Sunset Cruise. It's a great opportunity to relax, breathe in the fresh salty air, enjoy a drink and good company whilst sailing around the calm waters off PD. But this time round it was anything but enjoyable. There was 28-29 knot winds and waves that looked to be around 3m high. No one could sit out front of the boat (without being completely drenched and thrown around) and no one could sit inside for fear of becoming seasick. So everyone scampered to the rear of the boat but there was limited seating options for the 50 people on board to use. Many were forced to sit (and get drenched) along the back row, some braved the side deck, hanging onto the railing for dear life and others braced themselves against the stair rails or whatever else they could get a good grip on. For a solid 60mins we rocked from side to side and up and down. No one moved. No one relaxed. A brave few continued to drink (they at least had their hands free, being in a seat) but most abstained. People were clearly NOT enjoying themselves (one girl was sick) and we couldn’t wait to get back into the sheltered waters of the inlet. This so called “sailing experience” could be likened to a Sydney to Hobart experience – only for the serious sailor! We had friends who did this cruise the day before us – and experienced exactly the same conditions. Three people on their cruise were sick. We were only told once aboard the yacht that things might get a “little rough”. No one was given the option to leave and we were never told just how rough and uncomfortable the trip would be. I’ve never been so disappointed in a cruise, and I survived it better than many other older people on board. I think it was quite irresponsible of the company to proceed. They could have chosen to stay in the calmer protected waters of the inlet, and just puttered around there for 90mins, and I think everyone would have been happy with that. Next time I consider going on this cruise I will not trust Sailaway to make the call – I’ll be personally checking the local wind and wave report.
The only positive I will mention, is that the 2 female crew members did a great job in trying to make everyone feel safe and comfortable.
Sailaway - please consider your customers next time - and do the right thing by them.

Very average cruise. We paid $75 and got the complimentary drink and snacks but there was a limited supply and it was all pretty much gone in the first 5mins and there was only a small group of people on board. The snacks provided were very average and you could tell they had done the bare minimum. The weather was dreadful which was obviously out of the control of the hosts but it was advertised as a Sunset Cruise which we would of rather of had our money returned instead of it going ahead in the wet weather. Hosts were lovely but I would not recommend especially for that price.

My husband and I did this cruise as a Birthday gift for him. We could not have asked for a more perfect time. The two crew members were fantastic, a welcome drink on arrival and finger food. An hour and a half was a perfect amount of time to experience sailing on the water and watching the sun set.

A beautiful way to end the day, whilst no sun setting that evening due to being overcast, the cruise was awesome. Joel and the crew were first class, very informative and lots of fun! The catamaran was very spacious, there was 45 passengers on board and lots of space for everyone to sit down and fully relax! Great music playing, canapés provided with first drink free of charge. The whole 90 minutes was relaxing and enjoyable- full of information and something I’d recommend doing!

Great little sail. Skipper Joel, and his crew were fantastic. Full of information, and happy to chat and engage with passengers sharing details about the area and the vessel. Only problem was 90 minutes felt a little short, and you rarely get to see the sunset over the cloud cover in the hills. Still well worth it for a peaceful cruise.

We absolutely loved this experience. The crew was exceptional and they provided great service. The view back to the mainland was spectacular and being on the water and watching the sunset was amazing. Remember to dress for the possibility of windy conditions and you will be asked to take your shoes off before boarding. Totally recommend this as it is also great value.

Was a very nice time on the boat, crew were fantastic, me and my friends had fun. Yellowglen is a terrible drink🥂I would look into another type of sparkling, heaps of low cost versions. I bought Moët for double the price which I thought was robbery! Think you should advise guest that they possibly get wet or soaked on the trip.

Sunset Sailing Cruise from Port Douglas provided by Sailaway
