A HUGE but wonderful day - thnx Habitat Team!Written 2 July 2024
- robynr620 contributionsWorth a visitThis sanctuary houses a variety of Australian birds and animals including koalas and kangaroos. We most enjoyed the small nocturnal section which had jumping mice and the bouncing bettong. We felt that some animals needed more space (for example the cassowaries looked stressed). We did not take a tour and preferred to wander around at our leisure.Written 5 May 2024
- BobNor0 contributionsGreat experience for kids and parentsWe did the private tour, and had Zoe as our guide. She was amazing, and made this a really memorable experience for our daughter. We got to hold and hug a koala, feed wallabies, and get close to tons of other animals. One of the highlights for our daughter was to visit the animal rehabilitation center, and see the little babies being cared for. The breakfast included in the tour was also good, with very healthy portion sizes.Written 23 February 2024
- Nish9810 contributionsAmazing placeThe birds are free to fly around pretty much anywhere and mix with the other birds, staff and visitors rather than being stuck separated in cages not doing much - always feel a bit sorry seeing that. They are absolutely everywhere, in the trees, on the walkways, in the cafe and one will probably end up on your shoulder at some point. Felt a very natural environment resulting in happy, active and friendly birds. Breakfast good too. Cockatoo absolutely insisted on climbing up onto a shoulder before breakfast had even started. Would definitely benefit from seeing a few additional types of birds if they can get them trained / happy to do so, especially given there’s such a range in the centre.Written 17 December 2023
- 747IanS7470 contributionsGood crocodile presentationWe last visited the Wildlife Habitat some 10 years ago and had fond memories. Maybe that was why the visit fell a little flat this time. We expected to see more colourful birds and had hoped to see the cassowaries being active. However, they were both hiding in a corner doing nothing. Not the fault of the business, but disappointing nevertheless. The crocodile presentation was well done, with content for both children and adults.Written 22 September 2023

- 67daniellem0 contributionsBeautiful place to visitWe enjoyed our visit to this wildlife park. The park has lots of different animals and is well maintained. Staff very nice and the birds in one area are super friendly and may land on you. We walked around the entire zoo and its so beautifully set out with boardwalks in a forest type setting. In the cafe there are birds flying around as well as koalas you can watch whilst you eat. Lots of yummy food and drink available from the cafe. Highly recommendWritten 22 April 2023

- JanetB201020130 contributionsProbably most interesting w/ children, or if you just love zoos. This is an outdoor zoo. You will see a bunch of animals and birds, many that you won't see in the wild, so if that's what you are looking for, this works. We found it kind of gimmicky, as in hold a koala and have your picture taken, then buy it.Written 12 April 2023
- Chris-Mansfield0 contributionsA very good morning outingAn excellent morning or afternoon outing ... Most of the birds and animals wander freely among the visitors .. A great place for getting photo's .. Personally I wouldn't bother with the extra attractions , such as Pretending to swim with crocs .... Its not worth the extra ... Be aware it's very hot and humid in there , take water .. When you pay for your ticket you also get free return entry for the next four days, which is something I made good use of as I like to photograph the birdsWritten 1 April 2023

So upon saying that, nothing spectacular about this place. It was clean and tidy. Staff were friendly. Few empty areas , animal free. Be good for kids.Written 17 March 2023

You went into the water with a snorkel and viewed them from under the water. You could watch them being fed from a pole and come out of the water to try and get the meat. It is certainly a unique experience .I loved it and got some great shots on my underwater camera as well as some above water pics. It's well worth a look seeWritten 8 March 2023
- Jhack8630 contributionsSuper helpful staffShowed up with my friends dream of holding a koala and it was as achieved! We told them we were staying at Dougie’s hostel and at the hostel is advertised that you get 15% off if you stay in the hostel, they said they hadn’t heard of it but regardless they kindly honoured. It’s a nice park, with several different environment areas. Our highlights were feeding some very cute kangaroo, holding a koala and seeing some very large crocs! All staff were super helpful and friendly if you get a chance to go it’s worth itWritten 6 March 2023

I love this place, you can spend hours wandering around the different areas, the bird sanctuary, the savannah, the night dwellers , crocodiles, fish++++++, there are also birds that come and go .You can have " breakfast with the birds" as staff will bring them round at the cafe which in the middle of the "Habitat".One entryticket can get you three days access, so you can come and go, it is ideal for families. I have lost count of the amount of times I have visited over the past 10 years.

The website is a little confusing when booking. I booked my family into the night tour, which looked as if it included entry to the park during the day, it didn't. This was fine as entry is not that expensive and can be bought at the gate on the day; however, I would recommend ringing to purchase tickets instead of using the online system. My mother and I arrived at the park at 2:30 not realising that it closed at 4:00 and reopened for the night tour at 6:00 this was not clear on the website. The park has a lot of birds that are very friendly, so I would recommend that you like birds before coming here. It is a reasonably small park, and we were able to do it in 1.5 hours quite comfortably. The night tour was definitely the highlight, and I would recommend it. Our guide was Sophie, and she was terrific and very knowledgeable with a biology background. On the tour, we fed wallabies and kangaroos, cassowaries and birds. It is fantastic to see how the animal's behaviour changes at night.

Hi,
Thanks so much for visiting Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas for the WildNIGHT Tour.
It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the night tour and we will pass on your wonderful words to Sophie. It's really interesting to see you active our animals become at night time!
Regarding the clarity of the website and the timing of WildNIGHT Habitat, we will edit this to ensure that it is clear that the park closes at 4pm and re-opens at 6pm. We really appreciate your feedback on this.
Thanks again,
Amanda

I visited the wildlife habitat in a package on a tour and was very impressed about the style zoo they have. Very animal friendly, big enclosures with similar to nature landscapes and details. You basically become a guest in their habitat whilst walking through the enclosure, instead of staring at it.
It is also very family friendly.
We had a nice guide who told interesting facts and stories about the inhabitants, all animals have names and are treated like friends.
Would definitely recommend to visit it whilst in the area.

This is a nice little zoo that caters especially for families with smaller children and bird lovers. Quite a few enclosures were empty and a large part of the crocodile area closed. The croc arena show was well done although the option of swimming with the salties does not seem worthwhile the money: you can see the same action from the other side of the glass without paying 200 bucks extra! They have a really great variety of birds and the aviary is really exceptionally nice with boardwalks on several levels. Food in the cafe was surprisingly tasty!!

Thank you so much for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed all the birds we have and the food in the cafe too. Yes, part of the crocodile area is closed off as there is a relatively new crocodile being introduced to the area so we have created space for the new croc to become acclimated. Some of the areas will contain animals that can be hard to find initially for example certain reptiles due to their camouflage or the the Lumholtz tree Kangaroo who likes to stay hidden higher up. We are delighted that you enjoyed the viewing area of the CrocArena although it truly is such a heart in mouth moment being able to look a massive Saltwater Crocodile in the eye in the Swim with the Salties experience. We always appreciate feedback so thank you again.

Visited 21.2.22- the crocodile show was very basic and lasted about a good 2 minutes. - don’t waste your money. If you appreciate the Crocs go to Hartley!!
Best part of the wildlife was feeding the kangaroos and knowing I could come back for 5 days (free entry- after the inital purchased ticket). I came back to feed the Roos!
The attached photo of the croc was at Hartleys!! Best visit!!

Thank you for taking the time to provide valuable feedback.
We understand your disappointment surrounding our Crocodile feeding presentation around your below review date. Unexpected operational issues occurred on the day in question. Every effort was made for this situation to not impact the Crocodile presentation, however on this occasion, that was not avoided, and our presentation ran late and for a reduced amount of time.
Our normal Crocodilian presentation is undertaken for approximately 15 minutes and includes a talk on these apex predators, why they should be appreciated, respected and be protected, a feeding display of their sheer power and might, and also a chance for the crowd to interact with a juvenile crocodile in a safe and secure manner. It is unfortunate you did not get to undertake this full presentation that we are very proud of on the day of your visit.
We hope that this does not deter you to return visit to witness our full presentation at another time.
Again thank you for taking the time to review.

Some parts of this park were great, others were smelly and underwhelming. The crocodile presentation was pretty good and my teen kids enjoyed feeding the roos, but there are so many people doing it they are not really hungry. It was very hot the day we went (not at all the parks fault obviosuly, it is north QLD), but that meant we didn't really enjoy wandering around as much as we might have in the cooler weather.
Wouldn't go again.

Go to Hartleys Crocodile Farm not here......
Very disappointed with the front counter staff and their lack of education and understanding 😞. I went into Port douglas wildlife habitat with my partner and 3 year old. THought we would try here instead of Hartleys where we always go. On entry we were requested to show vaccination status which is more than fine we are both vaccinated. I was challenged and told I can't enter unless I wear a mask. I politely told the girl I am unable to wear a mask (Medical exemption) My partner was however wearing one.
The lady at the counter took my phone searched it for proof of exemption on my vac certificate very closely. Which i stated to her wouldn't be on there. She then refused to serve me as I had no mask then asked the team leader to take over as in her words "she just cant"..
Then Samantha took over and said if I do not provide proof to her of my medical condition than I am not allowed to enter. At this point it was now holding up people trying to get in. My partner politely spoke up and said you can't do that or ask for that. Samantha then said "well I guess we have to let you then, just don't go sneezing on other people inside. The animals won't care but the people will". That is one of the strangest comments I've heard. Then I walk in finally after all of this unesscarey drama and not one person as we walk through is wearing a mask? Only needed one to pay and walk through. 🤔

What a unique experience, to be able to safely swim in water right next to two large salt water crocodiles. The size doesn’t really hit you until you’re actually in the water, during a feeding. Definitely worth the price!
The wildlife habitat itself was lovely with lots of animals (a lot of birds which I thoroughly enjoyed), you got to see a lot of the animal’s natural behaviors, and none of them seemed to be fearful of the guests. Just a wonderful day all around. The cafe was a little pricy, but they always are in zoo's and wildlife parks. So if you're on a tight budget maybe pack a lunch. But 10/10 would reccomend swim with the salties for anyone who visits.

We love visiting zoos and wildlife parks and were excited to check out Wildlife Habitat. We weren't disappointed - from the moment we stepped out of the entrance/gift shop into the aviary to the moment we said goodbye to Elvis as we left, Miss 11 couldn't stop oohhing and ahhing.
We were able to spend 3 hours wandering around, going back to different exhibits, feeding the kangaroos and talking to the cockatoos.
My only request would be for the cafe to open a little longer with some more food options as by 12:30 there was not much left.
Thank you for a great day.

This was our second trip to visit Wildlife Habitat, first time 2021 we went on our own and really enjoyed ourselves this time 2023 we had our grandkids and family with us, it’s a great place for kids and adults alike and we really love the interaction with the birds in cafe area you can spend a lot of time here. Didn’t enjoy the crocodiles as much as other places but it’s okay. The photos with animals is fun and worth doing and I like the nocturnal animal house

How close to the town of Port Douglas is this? Is it walkable from the cruise ship?
Written 24 July 2019
Hi, Arietta. I'm sorry I can't answer this question. We were in Port Douglas for only two days so am not really familiar with the area. We stayed in a motel close to downtown Port Douglas and had to drive to the Wildlife Habitat. If you do get there I hope you enjoy it more than we did.
