      Okay but was left disappointed..
Was always a bucket list item to go to the GBR and was so excited to go. Whilst I am content that I went, I was left quite disappointed. The snorkerling was a nice experience however I was disappointed with the lack of fish and the bleached out/foggy waters and coral. I was expecting to see a reef wonderland full of colour but this wasn't too be. Was also hoping to see plenty of fish / turtles etc however saw not many at all whilst snorkerling. I am not sure if I was swimming in the wrong area or not but we didn't have much guidance from the crew. The flippers that were given caused blisters to my feet. They should have had some wider fitting flippers available or tricks or tips to help avoid blistering. The sub tour as well needs to be cleaned as the windows were all dirty and had spots in the way of taking photographs. Finally, I was looking forward to my buffet lunch but arrived to not many options as well. Most of the 'hot food' i.e. 4/5 options was of an asian background. I was expecting things like chips etc but this wasn't available. The cold food was mostly salad and some fruit. Not much option at all.

Extremely organized and well-staffed.. clear instructions, a/c on, information videos and pamphlets helpful staff, lifeguards for safety organized stinger suits and fins and clean masks, comfortable and offering snacks tea and coffee throughout. Buffet lunch places to sit when wet and also when dry, organized photos professional in water and on boat to buy air drop and or other ways .. they thought of everything! :) unforgettable

There are obviously many tours to choose from.
There are obviously many tours to choose from. This one seems a bit overwhelming because they are promising a lot of activities. Well, they deliver. You are going to have a good time even if you don't want to get wet. My only regret is that I didn't do more. The lunch and snacks were beyond my expectations. The crew was attentive and the marine biologist's commentary was inspiring. I might not get back to this corner of the world soon, but I would do this tour again no questions. Poorly organised, rushed experience. AVOID
Really poor day out. Delay in starting. Delay in landing as it was choppy due to high tide. Avoid the scuba diving. As an experienced diver, this was a rushed, unsafe experience. We were forced to come up after 25 minutes although we had plenty of air left as we had ‘run out of time’. We were told we would pass the underwater viewpoint as soon as we started diving to allow our partners on the pontoon a chance to take a photo/video of us passing by underwater but this not happen so she spent 45 mins waiting for us to scuba past which never happened. She then was delayed going on a helicopter ride and told she had to be fully dry on helicopter so should do the helicopter first. It was so delayed she never got to snorkel. We were told we would get extra time on the pontoon due to delays in leaving and landing on pontoon. This did not happen. A poorly organised trip for the masses. Basic snorkelling was okay although there is a lot of coral bleaching and dead coral at their pontoon site also. Little satisfaction from team

      Better than expected
We booked this expedition because it had availability and we couldn’t get the one we wanted. We expected jostling crowds and maybe even a disappointing location. Instead, there was no crowding, plenty of space, lots of coral and fish to enjoy. To be fair it might crowd up more at other times but for us it was a wonderful day.

Five stars, would 100% do again!
A fantastic family experience, we departed Cairns and started off with morning tea on the way out to the reef, once we arrived at the pontoon we lined up for the semi-submersible boat, a great way to get the kids excited about what we were going to see snorkeling, a very informative trip with lots of information about the coral and sea life and how we can help in the conservation of the reef. Back to the pontoon for a hot and cold buffet lunch which was delicious, with curries, stir fry’s and rice along side salads, cold meats, fresh prawns and fruit. Snorkeling- wow! Our kids have never snorkeled but our son took to it like a duck to water and had a ball, our daughter not so much and after a brief paddle was happy to sit on the platform occasionally putting her face in whilst mum and dad took turns heading out with our son. I’ve been snorkeling before but nothing like this, the variety of fish and coral was spectacular and I could have stayed out for hours. A highlight of our holiday and will definitely come back again. We couldn’t fault the cruise, everything was included, morning & afternoon tea, lunch, stinger suits and snorkeling gear. The crew was great and we came away with some awesome photos to remember the trip by.

Fabulous day, Mother Nature turned it on for us. Scuba-Doo was an unforgettable experience
It was a fantastic day out. We had good weather and visibility. I wanted to try the scuba-doo but was a bit anxious. The staff were wonderful and made me feel comfortable. The operator said if I couldn’t do it they would not charge me for it if I changed my mind. It was a great experience

      Amazing fun
Very fun experience to see the Great Barrier Reef with lots of options, snorkeling was so fun but also an underwater viewing area and semi submersible submarine ride where we saw a turtle among 400 year old coral. The only caveat is to check the sea conditions before as it was rough getting to the pontoon if one is susceptible to sea sickness. But the staff is quite well prepared to care for this. (And my friend recovered quickly.)

Jay was an excellent dive master—both fun and informative. I had a wonderful time at the pontoon, especially interacting with Wally the Maori wrasse. I would highly recommend this experience.

A sensational day on the reef
The reef experiences on this trip were fabulous. The cruise to the pontoon was very comfortable and the pontoon itself was spacious, with plenty of room for the snorkelling, relaxing, and dining areas. An underwater observatory is built on one end and there is a semi-submersible which gives wonderful views of the reef. Of course there are opportunities to try scuba and other underwater experiences. The meal provided was surprisingly good, with seconds available if needed. We highly recommend this company for a wonderful reef experience.

      Barrier reef tour
Very well run and managed with thorough instructions and friendly staff. The dock at the reef meant you only had to step off the dock platform into the water and you were among all the fish of the reef. The full body lycra suits kept us sun safe and life vests were handy as the conditions were choppy due to heavy wind. A great day.

ScubaDoo was a load of poo!!
Completely agree with one of the other reviewer. It was A QUITE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. The scooters barely move hence the view remains the same almost all of the time. Instead of moving around the reef the scooters remain confined to a very very small area. Even there the assistant pushes them around. In our case, one assistant went with two scooters so she spent most of her time struggling and separating the scooters. In addition, each scooter is tethered, the power button is misleading as it barely propels them. Instead the assistant pushes them from behind. The handle does not turn them either. Also, anything you see looks way smaller than the actual size. Complete waste of money, spend it somewhere worthwhile. USELESS!!

I was in Cairns for a conference and took a day trip to Green Island with Great Adventures. I opted for the 10:30-4:30pm tour with. The check in process was easy enough with good sign posting, however boarding was delayed and some elderly people in the line weren’t happy waiting in the line in the sun. The boat was a bit dated and worn, however staff were friendly and helpful as they popped around the boat to explain to people what the run down of the tour included. I had optional glass bottom boat or snorkle hire - feel like for the price of the ticket should have included both. Once on the island you are left to your own devices, and they came and picked up on time.

Green Island was a great place for the kids to learn to snorkel and gain some confidence in the water. We opted for the Discovery tour with Great Adventures which included quality snorkel gear as well as the glass bottom boat tour and it was good value for money. The coral was much better than expected and can recommend the left side of the jetty for amazing fish and turtles (even a reef shark!).

The glass bottom boat tour was excellent and we saw lots of fish and coral. We took our own lunch but the food coming out of the cafes looked good and we do order some hot chips. Staff in the dive shop were very friendly and helpful.

We added on a boat snorkel tour which went about 800m offshore to one of the dive sites – good practice for the family and we saw lots of good coral and marine life including clown fish and turtles. Would certainly recommend Green Island Adventures.

The team were amazing. Our tour with another company got cancelled at 8am so I walked over to there desk and the amazing lady said to wait if there was space then got the 4 of us on the boat. The lady on the boat was welcoming and provided advice for where to go and the driver of the glass bottom boat was incredible. I wish I wrote down everyone’s names but it was amazing. The snorkelling off the end of the jetty was mind blowing we would love to go back and would definitely go with these guys they were awesome

This was a waste of time and money. If you truly want to see the Great Barrier Reef I’d HIGHLY recommend doing another tour. It is catered towards people over 65+ who want to avoid everything (water, sun, adventure, etc.) but still be at the “reef”. A primarily indoor boat takes you to the island which doesn’t look that nice and has very simple activities and food. Even if you are crunched for time like I was, I’d recommend another tour which takes you to the Outer Reef. I’m also not the best swimmer but this was extremely uneventful. It was no different from going to any beach and walking in the water to snorkel.

Hi msdal, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your time with us. We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your time and experience on Green Island. Green Island is a fantastic destination for families and non-swimmers, due to the additional, dry activities available, such as glass-bottom boats and the crocodile park. There are some excellent swimming spots off the Island, but you need to get past the seagrass (a primary food source for the Green Sea Turtles who inhabit the Island). We are sorry again that you didn't enjoy your time with us. Kind regards, Team QSG

We arrived to torrential rain and although they can’t control the weather there was no effort made by them to make our trip bearable. Green island resort had absolutely no undercover seating out of the rain. We found a room with tables and chairs that looked like something in a school dormitory it was dirty and cold. The food on the island was super expensive $20 for a hotdog. We weren’t offered tea or coffee we just sat in the cold with no other option for 3 hours. I felt there was no concern for their customers at all. The resort is run down and quite grubby with no options for wet weather. So even on a sunny day the state of the resort the cost of food and the inability to find shade would not make this trip any better. Unless of course you want to pay $40 for a beach umbrella for 2 hours

Absolutely the biggest waste of money.
When we got to green island little bites could not serve anything as the fridge was broken, ran out of milk so no coffee or cold drinks. Was sold a bottle of warm water for $3.55. Had to line up for half an hour to get snorkeling gear. The photo shop closed- actually never opened, neither did the souvenir shop. Walked over to the crocodiles only to be told it’s was $28 each to go into the most run down place I have ever seen. At lunch went to emerald restaurant only to be told it was 1 1/2 hour wait for food and it was so expensive. Walked over to canopy grill only to be told they had run out of food as well, we managed to score the last seafood basket- $32 for a small piece of fish, 2 prawn cutlets, 1 calamari ring and about 6 chips. A total rip off. The whole island is run down , mould everywhere, rusted guttering on accomodation villas and shops and roofs full of leaves , rubbish and filthy. Would I recommend it to anyone- no way save your money. We are $312 out of pocket for very disappointing day. I was told by a crew member there was over 1000 people on the island that day , so do the maths and you can see it is a gold mine for the company that has done no maintenance on the place since pre Covid and still charging a fortune for a captive audience once you have paid for your ticket.

Even though Green Island is known for sea turtles, I did not expect to see so many (two from the pier and eight while snorkelling)! We decided to do the 10:30-16:30 ferry. Our glass bottom boat time was at 11:30 and lasted for half an hour. It takes you out further where you can't snorkel and the guide gives you lots of information on the reef and fish. Afterwards, we got our snorkel hire on the island and snorkelled for the rest of the day. The best place was the cordoned off area right by the pier as it's like that to stop boats coming in due to the number of turtles in the area! There are other places you can snorkel around the island and there is a lifeguard at one of the beaches but personally, I thought around the pier was the best place. Food on the island is a little pricy but I guess that's to be expected, and beware of the birds because they will try and steal your food! When you travel with Great Adventures, you also get access to the island resort facilites like the swimming pool and showers. Green Island is nice to spend even just a half day as it is quite small. Don't expect to see coral but if you really want to see Green Sea Turtles in the wild then you have a very high chance here!

Hi Emily, It's wonderful to hear that you encountered a significant number of sea turtles, both from the pier and while snorkeling. Green Island is indeed known for its sea turtle population, and it seems like you had a memorable encounter with them. The glass bottom boat tour appears to have provided you with a unique opportunity to explore the reef and learn about the fascinating marine life. The informative guide must have added value to your experience. As for the island's facilities, it's convenient that when you travel with Great Adventures, you have access to the resort's amenities such as the swimming pool and showers. This allows visitors to relax and freshen up after a day of exploring. Your mention of the pricing of food is noted. Being a popular tourist destination, it's common for prices to be slightly higher. However, it's good to keep in mind for future visits. Lastly, thank you for the heads-up about the birds! It's always helpful to be aware of any potential interactions with wildlife. Taking precautions to safeguard your food is essential to ensure a hassle-free experience. We appreciate your review and hope that your encounter with the sea turtles and the overall experience on Green Island will remain cherished memories.

We specifically chose this tour for the glass bottom boat experience. Our 30 minute tour almost made it to 20 minutes and half that time was over sand not reef as our skipper let young kids drive! Didn’t pause over reef for a good look. Boat to island didn’t follow safety procedures and you wouldn’t want to look for a life vest in an emergency. Food very overpriced and some ran out before 12 noon. Couldn’t swap to return on an earlier boat (once there) as information desk closed! Very disappointing experience.

Honestly was super disappointed and upset with this trip and wish I had of read these reviews prior to booking. We arrived at Green Island at 11:30am, went straight into class bottom boat tour which was great! However, after that there is literally nothing. You either swim in the “hotel” pool if you can even call it that as it looks abandoned, or go snorkelling which gets boring and exhausting quick since you have to swim so far out due to low tide. The food places were disappointing to say the least, basically only option is to eat fish… food is so overpriced it’s foul honestly, $12 for a small chips was just wild, and $6 for a can of soft drink…
My advice, don’t waste your money on Green Island

This was the highlight of my stay in the far north. I highly recommend the Great Adventures reef and green island. You take the reef king to green island and you have the time scheduled for the glass bottom boat the rest of the time you are free to explore the island. You can also snorkel and scuba dive and on the island itself there is a crocodile jail which houses troublesome crocs from the NT presently one of its occupants Cassius is the largest crocodile in captivity and to say he is big is an understatement they also have the Guinness world record proudly on display to prove it. You also have access to the pool however with the reef itself just there it simply cannot compete. The reef itself is breathtaking. On the reef king prior to departure you are served light refreshments also. Great adventures were are fantastic tour operator you also learned so much about the reef also and no matter what age the tour made it very accomodating. Definitely one to put on your must list. We spent a week in cairns only just returned today and did a number of tours yet this is the one we are still talking about. Seriously highly recommended
