Excellent day trip, great value for money!
Excellent day trip, great value for money. We chose to do the glass bottom boat tour over snorkelling and it was brilliant. Very informative and the fish feeding was cool. The island itself was incredible, you can structure the day however you choose and there were plenty of things to do like walk round the island, laze by the pool or swim in the sea. The crocodile and turtle feeding ran by an external company on the island was amazing! Would highly recommend this for only $28 per person. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day.

      a great experience
You get the ferry boat about 5 minute walk from the cruise port - but you need to go inside a building and get the ticket - a bit confusing. The trip to Green Island is about 50 minutes and there are about 3 during the day going back and forth. They can sell you snorkel equipment and snorkeling package on the boat, or you can wait till you get to the island. With the snorkeling package - you take a small boat about 5-7 minutes out to the reef and have about 1/2 hour of snorkeling. The views were awesome of the coral, with manta rays and lots of fish. They took both snorkelers and scuba on the same boat and we were both in the same area. They also had a photographer who took pictures and you could purchase and download them from the web site. It is a great experience.

      Not the best experience.
This company is usuali an amazing company to ho with. But today by good Weather they decide to close the top part of the boat… sorry but really disappointed! Plenty of family that came first to get the best place, we have been told to come downstairs after everyone got seated so each family had to sit separately, even the one with a baby. Next time advertise!

Great half day tour package to Green Island
We got a half day package which included either a complimentary glass bottom boat ride or snorkelling equipment. The staff onboard the ferry to green island were all super friendly and organised our time slot for the glass bottom boat ride before we left the harbour. The boat (ferry) was comfortable and despite the waters being somewhat choppy, the vessel travelled smoothly and safely. The departure from cairns and green island was on time and allowed us to maximise our time on the island. Thanks for a great day

      Green Island Disappointment ..
Green Island trip yesterday 25 October 2023 with GI Eco Tours - very disappointed with inclusions of picnic lunch which was a sandwich, fruit, drink and packet of chips. Sandwich was pre packaged from a company in Caboolture - over 1,600 kilometres away???? Why can't you get a sandwich supplier in Cairns???? Green Island itself, while pretty when the tide is in, absolutely stank with bird faeces covering the pathways and tables and chairs and vegetation so overgrown it looked very neglected and dirty. There are better places to spend your day and hard earned money! Don't bother coming here till they get their act together!!!

      Best scubadiving experience ever
The best company for first- timers to book their snorkelling experience. The team on the boat to green Island was so friendly and talkative. The crew informed us about the location on where the briefing was. After we arrived to the Island we met the diving instructor Luis. Luis explained everything clearly. He then took my mum and I to the swimming pool to practice how to use the machine. When we went out to the reef my mum was having trouble with her mouth piece and he was very patient with helping her. Because we were both nervous being first time scuba divers he stayed with us the whole time under water and showed us the places where all the beautiful fish and turtles were located at. When we signalled we wanted to go up, he got us back up straight away. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. All the staff are very passionate about their jobs and helping people.

Ignore the haters and give this a go
I'm glad I ignored some excessively unrealistic review complaints about this trip and went anyway. Pretty much none of the negative things affected us. Some were a matter of degree. Yes, the sea smells like the sea. Yes, old buildings need paint. Yes, the waves make the boat move like a boat. Yes, a captive audience will be milked for things like lunch and coffee so you should bring your own. Duh, act like an adult and evaluate what your standards are.

Really rude hostesses on the boat. They answered every question with extreme sarcasm and I overheard one of them essentially chiding someone who had become seasick for taking the ginger tablets they offered instead of the seasick pills you could purchase. They also own Silverswift and the two large boats travel together so the area becomes twice as crowded. They advertise all these free meals and drinks but don’t tell you that they charge an arm and a leg for water. I will say in their favor that the customer service representatives at the dock are super-helpful. It doesn’t make up for the on boat experience, however, and I would highly recommend a company that features smaller tours.

Hi Orange2360, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. As a company who prides ourselves on excellent customer service, we are disappointed to hear that you had a negative experience with your onboard crew. We will pass your feedback on to our customer service manager. Great Adventures, Ocean Spirit Cruises and Silverswift are all products that fall under the Quicksilver Group of companies and therefore check-in at the same desk. Unfortunately, this does mean that the check-in area can become busy in the morning, however, boats will never depart with people still waiting in line. Our reservations team are skilled in checking in many passengers in a short time period in a professional and understanding manner. All our reef trips, including Great Adventures, provide lunch, as well as morning and afternoon tea. Customers are also entitled to free tea and coffee while the boat is stationary. We do have free cold water fountains on all of our boats, and encourage all passengers to refill their bottles there. Should you need to purchase a bottle that could then be refilled, this will cost you $3.50. Kind regards, Team QSG

Good day out. It's a long day so be prepared.

Took our 7 and 9 year old out to Green Island and the Outer Reef experience.

Early start on the first boat out to island, half the boat was filled with staff manning the stores and food offerings, island doesn't really open until 10. Got a quick snorkel in in the Main beach, was a good taster for the kids and an opportunity for them to get used to the equipment. Did this for an hour before taking a small walk to some other areas, though low tide didn't offer much to look at.

Jumped back on the boat for a rough 50 min trip out to the platform. Staff on board assisted as best they could in the rough conditions. If you get sea sick take a travel calm or pick another activity.

Once on the platform the semi submerged boat was a great experience for the kids and gave them a taster of what they might see when snorkeling later.

Lunch was a great mix of hot and cold dishes, prawns were on the menu that I was surprised to see.

The snorkeling on offer was great, got a great mix of fish, big, small and colourful. I was lucky enough to see a turtle as well. Staff were great with the kids and checked in on them throughout.

The underwater observation deck is good for those not wanting a swim, though some further research by the presenter might be encouraged, not sure they are an environmental specialist as suggested.

Though you are there for 3 hours, time goes quick and you'll be wanting more.

Looks like a great place for those wanting to have their first experience in scuba diving.

Back on the boat for a 2 hour boat ride back with pick up at Green Island, again staff assisted were they could. The 2nd half of the trip seemed like they were over it though as they tended to chat amongst themselves or with other staff taking the boat back after finishing on the island for the day. So there was limited staff about if you wanted anything on last leg. Picture people managed to nab a few sales though so good for them.

Would suggest doing the big trip, though it is expensive you will be happy in getting out to the reef. Those who did Green Island for the entire day seemed disappointed with what was available and that when the tide was out it limited their options even more

We went on our Great Barrier Reef trip with Great Adventures and Quicksilver Group in December 2022 and couldn’t have been more delighted.

We chose to fly out to the reef giving us the opportunity of a later start without missing any time on the reef. We flew with Nautilus Aviation and had the experience of a lifetime. The stunning views over the barrier reef will stay with us for the rest of our lives and our words couldn’t even begin to do this part of the trip justice. If you can stretch your budget to include the flight, do not even give it a second though, just do it, you wont be disappointed.

Upon arrival onto the pontoon, we were given information on the activities available then taken to our scubadoo session which we had prebooked. Again, this was sensational and not to be missed. We have scuba dived many times, including on the reef but the freedom offered on the scubadoo without the need to worry about buoyancy, pressure etc made this a completely different experience. Also keeping your hair dry was another lucky bonus.

On the scubadoo, we saw some pristine reef along with many beautiful species of marine life. The highlight of this part was getting to meet Wally, the giant, friendly blue Wrasse. He was inquisitive and keen to photo bomb and be included in our pictures. Again, memories like these are priceless. The rest of the afternoon included snorkelling the reef and taking a trip on the semi submersible boat, both of which showcased the barrier reef in all its glory.

The staff were great and went out of their way to make the day enjoyable. We thoroughly recommend booking your barrier reef trip with Great Adventures, the know what they are doing and how to make your day really enjoyable and filled with amazing memories.

From the time of checking in and then boarding the catamaran, everything was done very professionally and staff were very friendly and helpful . The catamaran stopped at Green Island first and then onto our platoon. Great day out on the reef , with doing the semi submerged submarine and enjoying a smorgasbord lunch . Just a great day out there .

Myself and my friend went on the Great Barrier Reef adventure to the Michaelmas Cay. It was great from the get go, we were greeted with teas, coffees and muffins before we departed! It took around an hour maybe 2 to get there and while we were on our way there the crew members gave us a very informative talk through of the Cay, the Reef and what we would be doing. Once there we had the choice of either going to the beach or doing the semi submarine. On the semi sub you could see so clear the reef, the fish and the turtles! On the beach you could snorkel at your own pace or have a guided snorkel.

We had a guided snorkel with Davo. As two people who are quite nervous swimmers Davo out us at ease and didn’t put any pressure on us. He had so many facts and also knew the best places to snorkel so we could see the best bits! I think that made the experience for us! We saw so many different things from the reef to the fish.

Lunch was provided for us and also an afternoon snack and a glass of Prosecco once on the way back to Cairns.

Couldn’t fault the trip thought it was amazing!

We emded up "choosing" this trip due to limited departures among all tour providers, but we were very happy with our day out :-)
The stop for a couple of hours at Green Island was a fab place for our kids (7 & 11) to have their first go at snorkeling and get used to the equipment, right off the beach. Managed to spot a few fish and a couple of turtles too!
The trip out to the reef had a decent swell but the staff kept an eye on everyone and were very caring.
It was all go once we arrived out on the platform and it was a very well oiled machine. A quick trip on the semi sub since there were limited numbers of trips happening and then into a lycra suit and out to snorkel. Snorkelling was fabulous with so many fish and loads of coral to be seen. Kids had an amazing time and didnt want to come back in!
Lunch was just okay....but then we were there for the reef and not to sit around making trips to the buffet.
Made good time on the trip back again, with decent swell continuing and a quick stop at Green Island again.
If we were to go again, we probably wouldnt stop at Green Island again and would choose a trip with more time at the pontoon - who would have thought that 3 hours wouldnt be enough!!! But we would certainly try to choose Great Adventures again.

My family and I were very happy with the snorkel tour we had arranged with the tour guide, Phil, who went out of his way to ensure we had a great experience. He moved at our pace and was quite knowledgeable about the marine life and the various groups’ efforts to restore the coral reefs. On our way back to Cairns, he even provided a list of helpful tips for our upcoming road trip in Australia by canvassing some of his colleagues. If you are going to book a snorkeling tour with this company, I would recommend asking for Phil.

I'd like to start off by saying the staff was absolutely incredible and accommodating, and I WISH I could remember the name of the man that helped us before our dive. I want to say it starts with an "R" but I could be wrong. Anyway, my travel agent booked a great barrier reef cruise/snorkel along with a dive, but unfortunately she booked the scuba dive on another cruise with the same company. It was a misunderstanding, but was definitely frustrating realizing I didn't have the dive booked on the cruise I was currently on. This wonderfully helpful, and patient man helped me to call their third party that handles all payments, and was able to fit in our dive on that cruise. Kyoko then took us on the dive, and relieved all anxiety we had prior to descent. Thank you all for the most incredible experience. Your happy attitude and relaxed way of life is what made this the best day of our trip. WE WILL BE BACK! - Casey & Carly- the blonde Americans from NJ

We enjoyed our time snorkeling at the reef, amazing experience and saw lots of fish, sadly dead coral too. The boat experience was not so good, crowded, little seating outside. Lunch was ok, hot selection poorer than the cold. On reflection we should have chosen a smaller company with less people as we don't do crowds!

Paid $270 each for this trip and was very disappointed. We took over two hours to get there due to having to go via green island. When we got to the pontoon we had 3 hours before getting back on board. In that time we had a go on the submersible, wet seats, dirty windows so couldn’t really see much, floated over coral which was dead and not many fish. Lunch was served but no seats as people dumped their gear on tables , of which there were only a few, and so we had to stand against the rail and eat. The curry was meant to be hot yet only Luke warm which is a good safety issue as was the stir fry. At least the prawns were on a bed of ice. By this time we had an hour to get snorkel gear and have a go before getting out and back on the boat to go via green island again. Therefore over four hours of travelling for a rushed 3 hours at the pontoon. Would I recommend it, no way, expensive at $274 each and the main part of the day was rushed.
