Amazing day in the Great Barrier Reef. Submarine was great and got to see lots of marine life with the children. We had a fantastic time. Thank you

      A great outing
when my husband and I arrived on green island the weather and hospitality was disappointing. after a few hours the weather stared to clear up, me and my husband had the most enjoyable stay at the hotel and a great time on the beach As well as in the water, the snorkeling gear was defective yet we had our own gear from our house, the restaurants were an expensive and open really late but had great food, the tickets were a bit pricey but overall it was a great experience and amazing time. Good trip for the money
Seems touristy while you're on the boat, but people spread out around the island. Snorkeling was absolutely amazing. We saw everything we wanted to see and more.

An enjoyable and successful day trip to an island paradise.
We had a great day trip to Green Island yesterday on the Big Cat. The staff were attentive and approachable at all times. We are locals and went to the island for a specific reason. Jen and Caitlin, two of the marine biologists, went out of their way to help us achieve our aim and without them we'd have gone home disappointed. They are lovely young women and real assets to the company. The return voyage was quite rough and any passenger who felt sick was tended to quickly with care.

      Wonderful experience
We enjoyed a lovely day on the big cat full day tour. The staff were friendly and helpful, the boat was comfortable and cool and we could go back to it whenever we needed. The glass bottom boat and snorkeling ( we did both) were both worth doing and the island itself was a delight. I would highly recommend this company and the day trip allowed us to fit everything in. Such a beautiful place, teaming with marine and bird life as well as the beauty of the reef.

Fun in the sun w fish in water
Super. Just right 1hr 15min ride non bumpy on waves. Good Wi-Fi. Helpful staff. Snorkel beside walkway a ships length before the bend and the reef is there as had to figure out where the fish were. Weather was 70s-80s minor windy later in day. Short walk to the resort w on island bathrooms and food shops. Buffet lunch on ship was curry excellent. Ship left at 3:45p and fish feeding in back for 10min was cool and attracted a shark. Saw a few turtles and manta rays and plenty of fish. Shaded areas to right out of walkway less so to the left. Overall fun and weather was fabulous on day we left. Plenty of families on board

      A bucket list tick
A fantastic day Left around 845 and returned by 5 pm Trip out was a little rough but the safety and comfort of guests on board was always out first We did the free glass boat - wow what a view Paid extra for semi submerged boat and again great view and knowledge of area from biologists We tried snorkeling with our own gear, fun but water so salty … Saw little fish, turtles, sea life and coral You can hire a locker for the day to hold your belongings while enjoying the beach activities A great day and a tick off the bucket list

      Magical snorkelling
We travelled with quicksilver great adventures on a beautiful day. We have been to Green Island before and had an amazing time, so we wanted to go there again. The island did not disappoint, and this time, it was even better than the last. The trip was quicker, so we had more time on the island itself, which was nice. Snorkelling gear was included this time, which we picked up from the dive shop on the island - note unfortunately, flotation vests are not included and have to be hired, but I would recommend little snorkellers use them as snorkelling can be tiring. The reef to snorkel on is just off the beach, which is so wonderful, and we saw some amazing sea life, including colourful fish, small reef sharks, rays and turtles - in a word it was magical. We had time to walk around the entire island and snorkel in a couple of different spots and loved it. We took our own snacks and had an ice cream on the island, so you don't need to spend a lot of money when you get there. The trip itself seems expensive, but it is well and truly worth it. We will make this something we do every time we travel to Cairns.

      Great snorkelling!
The boat trip was great, the semi-submersible & glass bottom boat trips are well worth doing. If you’re already familiar with snorkelling it’s very easy to hire some equipment on the island and spend a couple of hours snorkelling just off the beach or jetty. The highlight was the absolute gorgeous snorkelling location. The marine life was incredibly abundant. The only thing letting this trip down is the island is a little dated. The shops need some TLC and there are very few food options.

      Good day trip from Cairns
We booked directly on Green Island Big Cat website. The tour was well organised. Must recommend the semi submersible tour as it was a great experience and we saw plenty of fish. The island itself is not too big, perfect for families. You can easily spend 4-5 hours on the island.

      Great time
The crew on the reef rocket were wonderful. Trip over was a bit bumpy due to wind and the weather. The island was good and the glass bottom boat trip was a laugh. The lasy operating the boat was excellent. Trip back was a lot smoother. We had a wonderful day.

Great day out for the whole family!
Very happy with our trip! The boat ride out was pretty rocky, but that's out of their control. Snorkeling was super fun, and the glass bottom boat tour was great, especially with the tour guide we had. The buffet lunch had a great selection, and we were all very pleased with the whole day. Thanks for a great experience!!

Absolutely recommend, especially for young families
We wanted a reef experience that was also suitable for an 11 month old baby and we’re so pleased we did the Big Cat Green Island trip! We had a fantastic day out, with elements to please everyone. The glass bottom boat tour was fantastic to get a sense of the reef without getting wet, with an entertaining guide, my husband LOVED the snorkel safari (honestly didn’t stop talking about it for days 😂), my toddler loved the shallow beach at the island (and being able to come back to the air conditioned catamaran for a nap) and I enjoyed a good explore around the island and reef. Oh and we all enjoyed our buffet lunch and the staff were great! We brought a travel pram with us and it was perfect for boardwalks around the island and was manageable on the boat, although we did have to carry it up and down flights of steps due to the changing tide (we were very pleased that our pram is conveniently small!). Would 100% do the trip again and absolutely recommend it to families.

Truly enjoyed the experience! Quick boat ride out to Green Island and then plenty of time to snorkel to your hearts content! Honestly so beautiful and we got to see a lot of wildlife (sea turtle, sting ray and loads of beautiful fish). I feel like something that was misleading on the posting was that snorkel gear WAS NOT included, but was an option for an extra AUD $20 to rent. After we snorkeled for a bit we went and explored the forested path!

The half day trip with submarine is a good way to spend a half day, you get to see something of the reef. The choice of glass-bottomed boat or snorkelling is another 30 mins (a little longer on the latter if you are very well organised). My feeling is if that if you really want to snorkel you need more time. The croc museum on the island is worth a quick visit too. Most of the half day is the journey to/from Green Island.

Great green island trip with snorkeling! Comfy boat, well cared for gear, they had all our sizes. Masks were high quality and everything is disinfected. Snorkeling off the beach was amazing, so many fish. Chairs and umbrellas available for rent on beach. The 1/2 day tour was just enough for a great snorkel then returning to boat.

Overall the experience was fairly good just the weather was poor making the boat ride extremely rough. On a perfect day Green Island would be a beautiful place to visit again. Glass bottom boat ride was great too.

Got on board the Reef Rocket at 1pm for a half day trip to Green Island where we spent some of our time on the glass bottom boat watching some amazing sea life and coral. Went for a swim and a stroll later before getting back on board the Reef Rocket for the crossing back to Cairns. Got back at 5pm, all went too fast.

I took my daughter who is 21 and we both had an amazing time! We did the half day trip with the glass bottom and semi submersible excursions. We saw so many fish and coral! This was a trip that I will always cherish! The staff on the boat were friendly and answered my questions. We visited Cairns for the sole purpose of seeing the Reef and this tour made it possible without us having to get wet.

We went with high expectations that we would experience the reef in all its glory. The truth is that we saw only a tiny slice of marine life but lots of sea grass and were largely disappointed. The island smelled terribly of bird guano as there are birds everywhere. It’s also very commercial which was a surprise. The snorkeling area did not come with a map or directions of where to see the fish and coral.
The glass bottomed boat tour was informative and we did see a little coral and colorful fish. A small shark swam by at one point.

Hi there, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy Green Island. I should mention that Green Island brings in thousands of bird watches each year and is one of the beautiful features the island hosts. Unfortunately, this means there is bird matter. We do have a video on the boat when arriving that highlights popular areas on where to snorkel, apologies if this was not made clear enough. We are please you enjoyed the glass bottom boat though. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip and hope to see you again soon,

So pleased we did this - and did it with this tour company. Great friendly, thorough and professional service - with full explanations all the way through the trip
The submarine was the best - with many sights to see

We took the 11am boat which was on their smaller boat -- the Reef Rocket. It wasn't busy which was nice but it was a very rough trip. I took a sea sickness tablet but felt quite ill by the end. I stood outside as I find that better for managing sea sickness, however the strong diesel fumes from the back of the boat made it worse. The front of the boat was closed due to the winds. If you do the full day tour, you'll be on the big boat so I'm guessing there will be better outdoor seating options without diesel fumes in your face.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had all our own snorkelling gear except we didn't haver fins for two of us. The staff kindly lent us some fins free of charge.

I like the way the staff came around on the boat trip to ask if you had any questions.

My husband and children enjoyed the glass bottom boat tour. I opted out due to feeling sick from the boat ride. They said it was choppy and I wouldn't have liked it!

The boat ride back on the Reef Rocket was horrible. It was overcrowded so we didn't even get a seat (is this legal or ethical... I mean we paid a lot of money and didn't get seat?). I stood at the railing at the back with my small children. We got soaked from the rolling waves.

As for Green Island itself. I've been there about 3 times prior and it hasn't improved much in recent times. The facilities are run down and there is a putrid smell in some areas.

The toilets are wet and dirty with only a small (wet!) area for changing.

Food is very expensive and unnappealing. We brought our own but my son's bread roll was snatched out of his hand by one of the birds that roams the island looking for food (maybe more tourist education on not feeding birds is needed?).

The water was murky but we still managed to snorkel and see some fish and a sea turtle so we were happy with that.

I don't like cold water so we took our wetsuits. The water temp was 24 degrees in July so it's fine if you aren't too sensitive.

There is also a pool on the island but it's a horrible green colour with only a couple of seats around the edge. Naturally, not many tourtists were using it.

There is inadequate shade and seating on Green Island unless you want to pay $45 for a sun lounge and umbrella set up.

Overall, we were happy enough with the tour company apart from the overcrowding on the return boat. The weather conditions weren't their fault of course (we had limited time so it was the best of a bad bunch of days).

I recommend going on a still day, perhaps during the shoulder season when it's a bit quieter? It was very busy in July even though it wasn't QLD school holidays.

Hey there, Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that your visit to Green Island wasn't quite what you'd expected, however we'd like to mention that we do not actually operate the resort or any of its facilities. We offer a range of optional activities, as well as a delicious buffet lunch option, onboard the Big Cat during your day on Green Island, including a snorkel safari, glass bottom boat tour, and semi submarine tour. We are however glad to hear you still enjoyed your time on the island and saw a turtle. :)
