Itinerary
- 1Tour Overview The Freshwater Rainforest Drift is an experience not to be missed. We drift down through the crystal clear waters of Fresh Water Creek surrounded by lush tropical rain forest. Most parts of the tour, the water runs slow, so we can spot wild life, but along the way we experience exhilarating fast waters that add to the adventure. We stock off at 2 swimming holes and go for a swim or a snorkel to see if we can spot some wild life. Wildlife includes, jungle perch, fresh water turtles, other freshwater tropical fishes, water lizards and monitors.

- sammyl5010 contributions10/10 would recommend.Amazing tour with super knowledgable guides. Stunning location and a great way to spend the morning. Andy made us feel very welcome and had lots of advice and facts to share.Written 6 January 2025
- RaisingExplorers0 contributionsSunrise kayak a great way to start the dayBeautiful sunrise kayak to spot turtles. Saw a couple but the best part was being out on the water in the calm of morning and visiting Double Island. Andy was a knowledgeable and friendly guide.Written 27 December 2024
- ColoradoStephanie10 contributionsHighly recommend! Its was a great experience! Luke and Andy were incredibly knowledgeable, the other people on our tour were fun and we saw Turtles! This trip exceeded our expectations. We also enjoyed spending a little time in Palm Cove, it has a different feel from Cairnes.Written 26 December 2024
- H1234QEjanetm0 contributionsFantastic kayak experience - highly recommendFantastic experience, leaving from Palm Cove to explore the waters and beaches around Double Island. Andy was a terrific guide (guide, attentive, knowledgeable) and we saw at least 20 turtles, a sting ray, a reef shark, and many birds. Our swim break and walk on the sand dune were terrific. A magical morning, and an experience I'd definitely recommend. One caution - booking directly appears to be much cheaper than what we paid through a third party!Written 11 December 2024
- 188donnav0 contributionsWonderful ExperienceWe went on the sunrise kayak turtle sightseeing tour. The weather was less than desirable the day we went (rain and wind picked up in middle of tour). Nevertheless, it was still one of the highlights of our trip to Australia. Luke was very knowledgeable, an excellent guide and he shared his knowledge of Australia, the culture, and other areas of interest. Definitely recommend this tour to others.Written 22 November 2024
- 47gilliand0 contributionsTurtle tour Palm CoveWonderful scenery, great trip with Brad even though the turtles were hiding from me. Highly recommend to anybody. Brad was very helpful and informative, especially enjoyed the peace and freedom of drifting on the water in such a beautiful place.Written 21 October 2024
- J6892AOemilyh0 contributionsTurtles! This tour was amazing! One of the best experiences of my life so far I reckon. The tour guide shared so much information with us about the local area and sea life and was a pleasure to paddle with. We decided to do it the morning of checking out as a way to experience the ocean one last time. If I ever come back to palm cove I’m definitely booking another tour. Highly highly recommend.Written 19 October 2024
- Y8914OIjenniferr0 contributionsA magical way to start the day!It was a wonderful early morning experience kayaking towards Double Island as the sun came up. Our guide was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and expertly navigated us around Double Island while talking about the history, flora and fauna along the way. An exciting way to start the day!Written 11 September 2024
- richardlL2873FN0 contributionsA peaceful, enjoyable early morning on the waterGreat fun! The double kayak was stable but reasonably fast, so the trip required much less effort than expected. Luke was knowledgeable and interesting to chat to. We didn't see much wildlife, but that's not the company's fault. Still enjoyed what we did see.Written 5 August 2024
- bethmB2875QT0 contributionsA lovely morning on the water, but a bit tricky if your group isn’t of equal capabilitiesThis was a decent morning out on the water, we enjoyed paddling out over to Double Island and having a quick wander around. It can be a bit tricky as you go as a group, so if you have someone who isn’t as capable/quick on the water, you do spend a bit of time waiting. I feel like our trip was cut short because of this - we ended up back at the shore an hour before we were initially told the tour would finish and didn’t go as far as we initially planned.Written 29 June 2024
- Julie C0 contributionsGreat tour!We had a terrific time with our guide Andy. We didn’t get to see many turtles but got to experience an amazing sunrise and the weather was perfect for kayaking. Andy shared his knowledge about Double Island and local wildlife and culture. We had a great experience and highly recommend this tour!Written 19 June 2024
- Mary O0 contributionsRainforest Drift Kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboarding tourFantastic tour on Freshwater Creek Cairns. Only 20 mins from Trinity Beach. Great for beginners and intermediate kayak enthusiasts. Equipment included kayak or paddle board and reef shoes. Andy was experienced, friendly and attentive while maintaining safety at all times. Equal parts relaxing and fun. Great value for money! Lookong to try the turtle tour next visit.Written 22 May 2024
- jaimetO2573GX0 contributionsHighly recommend! We did the sunrise turtle tour with Andy, and it was amazing. We saw a turtle, and the sunrise was amazing. Andy was very knowledgeable and funny and made the tour extremely informative. We visited double island, which was awesome, and the kayaking was not hard at all. If you are worried about 3 hours on the water, don't be. There are several stops along the way, so you are not paddling the entire time. Palm cove is beautiful and only about 15-20 mins drive from Carins city. I would highly recommend this tour! Local or tourist, it is a fantastic way to see the coastline from a new perspective.Written 28 April 2024
- Anna L0 contributionsSensational kayak safariFrom arrival to end Andy was a super guide, helping us W Kayak, loads of local knowledge including marine life, I went W 11yo daughter..many rests to just chill and admire scenery, my fav was on approach to Double Island the chorus of birdsong..saw a turtle pop head up, rays .. very good value for 4 hours... What a great morning trying out SUP I was pretty crap at it, but it didn’t matter! We made our way downstream shaded by tall timber, catching sight of water dragons, next thing you know it was all over, I could have done it all again! I fell off a number of times and the water was beautiful, warm and gentle currents. Just do it and you won’t regret it, in fact you’ll regret it forever if you don’t try it
I should mention I’m the wrong side of 75 so don’t let age put you off

Last week, my fiance and I did the Kuranda Rainforest Paddleboarding Adventure Tour (and the Kayak Turtle Tour from Palm Cove the following morning). Both experiences were incredible and I cannot recommend them enough! The SUP along the river amongst the rainforest was so beautiful and serene . Andy and Luke (and Bonnie the dog!) are excellent guides - very friendly, easy to chat to and helpful.

Fantastic morning. Beautiful scenery. Great guides and lots of laughs. Highly recommend this tour . We had children 8 and 10 yr old and adults from 30 to 60. We all really enjoyed ourselves and would like to do the turtle tour but the wind is too strong.

Wonderful experience. We are both over 60, but Andrew's patience and calm manner enabled us to be completely at ease with the Drift tour. Beautiful scenery, flora and fauna even close up with a Cassowary. A great mixture of peaceful drift and slightly challenging faster water.

Really fun morning paddling down the river in the rainforest. Nice group of people to share the experience with, and the guides, Andy and Luke, were brilliant.
Not a high adrenaline activity so very suitable for families.
Highly recommend this half day activity.

What a fun way to explore the rainforest in the Kuranda area - by paddling yourself along the Barron river on a paddleboard tour with Luke & Andy of Pacific watersports. On the tour we were traversing around rocks and mini rapids, drifting under the ancient twisted roots of the tropical trees, spotting birds flying above us and relaxing on Big Sands with the scenic cascades as your view, enjoying some cake and fresh fruit to energise you for the paddle back up river. The guys also gave us beginners some tips and new techniques to try out on the paddleboard and lots of interesting information about the local area and wildlife as we paddled downstream through the trees.
This is a great tour for seeing more of the natural beauty in the area and an adventurous but relaxing way to experience paddle boarding. Anyone can do it - even Luke's dog Bonnie came along for the ride!
I can't wait to try the double island kayak adventure on my next day off!

Best birthday ever! -my daughters shouted our family a Stand up Paddle Board Rainforest Experience as a gift. None of us had ever tried stand up paddle boarding before. Andy gave us a quick lessson at the start and we had a fantastic afternoon with the ocassional hilarity caused by mischief makers in the family. The portion of the Barron river was gentle and picturesque with nice amounts of shade here and there and wild birds to spot. An afternoon tea of fresh tropical fruit and cake with an opportunity for a swim was a welcome delight also. Bonny, their beautiful friendly pooch enjoyed some paddle boarding and watermelon . Andy and Luke, although safety concious were relaxed, fun and easy to interact with wich added to the day. What a fantastic birthday memory to have! Cheers to Andy, Luke and my wonderful daughters!

A highlight of my whirlwind trip in Australia. While here on business I managed to sneak away for a couple of days to explore the Cairns region. I ended up in Palm Cove and my time was precious. I decided to do the SUP tour down the Barron River in the Kuranda rainforest. I was not disappointed. Luke and Andy were great (and patient and funny) guides. I was picked up from my hotel in Palm Cove and we met the rest of the group coming from Cairns before heading up into the hills. Their sidekick Bonnie (the best dog ever) even joined us on our paddle. It wasn't the greatest day weather wise (misty, some rain) but that did not take away from the experience. Beautiful scenery and a chance to explore Kuranda in a different way than most. If you are coming to the Cairns region, put this adventure on your "must do" list.

Couldn't get a response on phone/email after booking through viator but viator said it was confirmed. Didn't show for pickup so I drove to the alternative meet point no one was there. Waiting for refund but wasted my very limited time in Cairns and $50 on taxi.
