About the operator

- 145ghazalea0 contributionsIt was an absolutely unforgettable experience!I had the thrill of white water rafting with Raging Thunder, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! From start to finish, the team was professional, organized, and focused on ensuring everyone had both a safe and exciting adventure. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable, skilled, and full of energy, making the entire trip engaging and fun. They provided clear instructions, shared interesting facts about the area, and had a great sense of humor that kept the atmosphere lively. The rafting route itself was breathtaking, with stunning views of nature and heart-pumping rapids that offered the perfect mix of adrenaline and adventure. Whether you're a first-timer or an experienced rafter, Raging Thunder caters to everyone with expert guidance and an emphasis on safety. I felt completely at ease throughout the journey, which allowed me to fully enjoy the thrill of the rapids and the beauty of the surroundings. If you're looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure, I highly recommend Raging Thunder. This was hands down one of the best experiences I've had, and I can’t wait to do it again!Written 1 December 2024

- BikingScot0 contributionsTremendous Time on the TullyWe had an absolute blast on this trip. We've done a fair amount of adventurous things in our time and a bit of rafting and packrafting before so we didn't want some lame touristy experience that was all sanitised. We had a fantastic day with Julian guiding our boat down the river with aplomb and a good laugh. Well worth the drive down from Cairns and the perfect thing to do on the one rainy day of our holiday!Written 26 August 2024
- Wanderer243111081450 contributionsSee you when we are 90!We came to re-live the same adventure from 30 years ago and we weren't disappointed. Turns out our awesome guide Mezza was also there 30 years ago too. We did it at 30, we did it at 60, we will see when we are 90 for round 3 (we are not kidding). Pretty awesome! A couple of observations though. The course has been shortened so you had less time on the water and it was disappointing we were not permitted to bring our own waterproof cameras (so many beautiful but missed photo opportunities of the amazing landscape). Would have been nice to compare the photos we took last time with photos we could have taken this time.Written 23 August 2024
- CarloHelmond0 contributionsGreat fun with the familyThis tour is well suited to take with kids. You will use the lower part of the Barron river which is not as wild as other parts and is classified as a level 3. Very well organized. Pickup from Cairns is included. Bring your own shoes or hire them for $5,- Depending on the size of the group you will end up with about 6 people in a raft. All safety gear is provided. There is a short introduction, safety talk and some practice activities at the start of the trip before goin through the rapids. In July the water is refreshing but not cold. You will get wet! The last part is mainly peddling back to the buss. There are no showers at the end, so bring a towel and a dry set of clothes. Great fun with the kids. If you are more experienced you might want to try the longer trips they offer.Written 21 August 2024
- Laramber0 contributionsWet and wild on the stunning Tully riverI did this same adventure in 1997 and it was great to go back with the family. The team are total pros and the setting in the national park not to be missed. Our guide Angelo tailored our ride to our requests and we felt 100% safe with him at the helm. Great vibe and fun times. Thank you!Written 31 January 2024

- Will M0 contributionsUnforgettable dayI recently embarked on an unforgettable white-water rafting adventure with Raging Thunder, and it was an absolute thrill from start to finish! A massive shout-out to Ash, our awesome guide, who ensured a safe and enjoyable experience, expertly navigating us through exhilarating rapids on the Tully. Another shout-out to Tom or Harry (I can't recall his name) who was super enthusiastic and made the safety briefings fun. - Adam Z0 contributionsAction packed adventure! My wife and I joined this trip, and despite some minor organizational/logistics, teething issues once we got on the bus, the rest of the day was a blast. The guides were professional, made us feel safe at all times and ensured we had a great day on the water with many laughs along the way from our Queenslander guides. Just a heads up that there are no change rooms at the end of the rafting, so bring a big towel as there’s only a bus that separates men from women. Will be back for sure 👍Written 4 January 2024
- xrockx0 contributionsGreat Rafting with very professional guides.Great experience. We did the Tully river rafting only a few days after the cyclone such that we were a tiny bit scared. No reason for that, the tour company just used a slightly lower part of the river such that the rafting was 100% safe. I don't think anyone who did not want to fell out of the boat. Our tour guide, Gilly, was super nice and knowledgeable beyond the rafting. During the calmer parts of the rafting, we learnt a lot about the beautiful rainforest along the river. It was my second time doing this, and I would not be surprised if there was a third. ;)Written 22 December 2023

Absolutely the best thing to do in FNQ so much fun the river is amazingly beautiful and soooo refreshing. This is better than a reef trip for mine. From the moment you hop on the bus to the time you hop of you are made to feel welcome. Our rafting guide Angel os a professional so experienced and a funny engaging guy. I can't express enough hoe good this is. I did it back around 1998 and these guys are still in business and it's because they are good at what they do and make it safe even for a very average swimmer like myself. Thanks guys it was a surprise for my wife for our wedding anniversary and she absolutely loved it so im in the good books.haha

My wife and I were excited to see that white water rafting had just re-opened on the Tully river. We booked a full day of rafting with Raging Thunder having high expectations for a great day. Our expectations were well and truely met, considering we were in the first few days of rafting starting back up here, the whole operation ran smoothly with very experienced guides. The rafting was great fun but at the same time all of the guides and staff involved showed their passion for what they do while pointing out the beauty of the natural environment that we were rafting through. We had such a good time, with a great bunch of people running this experience we would certainly do it again next time we visit.

This was a last minute decision to break up our drive from Palm Cove back to Airlie Beach. From booking through to the pub dinner, the whole crew were helpful and willing to make it as fun experience as possible. On the bus out we had Evie who was a stellar bus driver and photographer!
Christian was taking us through our ore brief on the bus. He jokes were ok I guess but he could definitely work on them ;) except the banana plantation, that was good. Luckily for us he wasn’t our guide cos he and one of the other guides attempted some singing and that would have been painful for a few hours on the water :)
Luckily, we got Steve and he was a total legend. He knew his sh*t. We had a mix of couples and some lads from South Korea who were a lot of fun. Steve did great in making sure by the end of the tour we all knew how to paddle back and forth in Korean!! Who knew it would have been so educational!! The rapids were a lot of fun with plenty of oh sh*t moments and some chill out swim time. The only negative is the March flies. They are annoying as sh*t but not much you can do. What you can do is listen to the guides advice and wear the yellow everything! We had the sexy MC hammer pants and the long sleeve thermal. The thermal wasn’t necessary for the cold, but helped keep the flies at bay a bit better so listen to your guide! There is a spot during the trip to jump off a high rock, I loved it but unfortunately my partner hurt her ears. Initially it was thought to be just a bit of water in her ears, so she soldiered on but by the time dinner was finished she was in a world of pain. Turned out she perforated her eardrum doing the jump. The guides were great though as they weren’t to know and did their best to keep her distracted from the pain and as comfortable as possible during the rafting.
The only suggestion I would make is if it is going to be March fly season, perhaps a text or email to advise to wear a bright colour as most people were wearing blue or dark which they like apparently.
Overall, a wicked day, heaps of laugh out loud moments, good banter and some wicked memories, even for my partner!!
Thanks!

A fantastic day out. It is what my family classed as an A-grade activity with beautiful scenery, exercise, teamwork and an element of risk. Johnny, our guide, is a very experienced rafting guide and has excellent people skills. Our youngest daughter was very apprehensive going in, but her nerves were soon eased by Johnny's humour and manner. The guides seem to be able to make the trip down river more or less exhilarating, depending on the aspirations and ability of the people in the raft, and I always felt safe as the guides work together to look out for the other rafts and ensure the safety of all rafters. There are opportunities to have a swim in open pools and to jump off a 3-metre-high rock. We went in early July on a 20˚day. My advice is to take the advice of the guides and wear the two thermals. Most people, especially those who swam, were shivering uncontrollably about two thirds of the way through. We are told that the water temperature is warm in the wet season. I would definitely do this tour again.

I rafted on the Tully 33 years ago with Raging Thunder.
It was time I took my family of 6 to experience the thrill of white water rafting on the Tully, of course I booked again with Raging Thunder.
I had the same memorable experience this time as I did all those years ago.
Safety was a priority then fun and excitement to follow.
Thanks Max for your bus driving skills and stories about the area.
James our raft guide was a professional and all round good bloke, the raft was beautifully commanded down the challenging grade 4 rapids.
Dinner at the Feluga pub was spot on.
I hope my kids bring their kids back to have the same thrilling experience in the future.
Well done Team Raging Thunder.

Warning that this is an 11 hour trip for less than three hours if rafting. However it is totally worth it. It's great to see the countryside on the log road trip and the rafting is amazing. The water is clear and the scenery is postcard perfect. I was full of adrenaline at the end and can't wait to go rafting again. You need to be up for thrills and spills though to enjoy it. The staff are really fun people but very experienced and take safety seriously. The pub dinner is a great way to finish off the trip. The only reason I give it a four instead of a five is that some of the participants weren't managed that well. There was an older couple that spent the entire four and a half hour round trip either talking loudly or watching tv without headphones- when I asked them to be quiet they ignored me. On the trip home the lady would walk past and stroke my hair and my shoulders and the guy came and sat next to me when I didn't ask him to (he did not have the best hygiene) and started asking me about intricate details of my travel plans, which was really awkward and not appropriate. They were in my boat as well and they didn't seem to enjoy the adventurous nature of the trip as they kept talking about things going wrong or saying they didn't want to do things, which made things feel a bit negative. They also had some physical, and possibly cognitive, difficulties in following the most important instructions before we'd even left the mooring. I ended up with a calf strain because the gentleman was having difficulties when carrying the raft up the bank. All for including people, tickets need to be sold and understand not everyone is an athlete. Also understand I could have made it more of an issue. However, it's very difficult to speak up when two people who are your seniors have paid the same money to be on the trip, have come all that way and you have to get on with them for the day. That's when I feel the staff needed to be more observant both when selling tickets and during the trip. Highly recommend this though if you are up for Wet n Wild on steroids.

Absolutely amazing experience, probably the best experience I had during our 7 day trip to Cairns. We did the daintree walk, drove up to cape tribulation, went scuba diving and snorkelling to the outer reef did Fitzroy Island, stayed at Palm Cove and Port Dpuglas and this beat them all by a mile. The views of the daintree are amazing from the river, the rapids are soo much fun, rapid-value for money is extremely high ~3-4 hours on the water, and most of all, the staff are amazing. Jimmy was exceptionally funny, informative, passionate and helpful. All the guides were amazing. The pub dinner was a nice touch also, and seeing the amazing outback sunset from the pub was 10/10. Would easily come back to Cairns just to do this experience again. Thanks team for an amazing day yesterday!

Absolutely incredible! Worth every penny. We had Kristian as our guide who was hilarious and really made the tour. The views and scenery were spectacular and even better in the cloudy, rainy weather in my opinion because you could see the clouds evaporating from the rainforest mountains and the waterfalls were all gushing around us. The rapids were so fun and the guide really put in effort to make sure we got the most out of each rapid for maximum excitement.

I’ve never rafted before, and I’m not an adrenaline junkie, but this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever done. Everyone was great, and our guide Clarissa was so much fun. She kept giving us ‘surprise & delight’ moments, like getting one of us to ride the bow. I fell out over a rapid, which was terrifying for a second, but didn’t detract from the sheer joy of the day! Do yourself a favour and book this tour!

Great day on the water with level four rapids, professional crew, magnificent scenery and great lunch. Calm sections allowed for unaided floating down the river and a rock jump. All standards of participant were catered for on the water and our needs on the bus trip and back.

Hey, looking to book into this tour! Would it be possible to be picked up from Jackaroo hostel mission beach? It isn’t on the list and looks like none of the options are close to it either.

I was picked up in the Jackaroo Treehouse parking lot, but I didn‘t book it over the website. But it should be possible, if you reach out to them and ask.
