    Hot!
Make sure you book your stinger suit before you travel. Spots in the shade are limited, and the only really shade on the beach means sitting on the dead coral . So 2 recommendations. If at all possible take some kinda pop up beach tent or umbrella and an extra towel to sit on as the dead coral can be a little uncomfortable 🤔 😉 the snorkeling is good (not great) but the boat staff are fab. Please note this can be a long day stuck in the sun, if go unprepared!

    Nice team
Had a blast doing the half day with my wife and 1 year old. Brooke was there to help with my nausea by providing me with some ginger tablets. Great to deal with her and the rest of the team.

    A good day....
we had a good day. I want to give 3.5 stars... Started with a snake at the pub..then looked at the water to see a turtle swim past. Went to the white rock for some snorkelling...good between the rocks...but a pity the coral has been trampled. Some nice coral and fish around the rock. Went to nudey beach.....too much wind so it was swim only. Lunch from the boat was simple but fillling. More swimming. Didn't do any of the activities.....but a good day.

    Definitely worth a visit.
We opted to do a half day tour leaving around 11 am and retiring on the 2 pm boat. In our case this was a mistake as it did not give us enough time to visit the turtle hospital and attend the information session, walk around a bit, visit Nudey beach and have a spot of lunch. The longer treks to the lighthouse and summit, along with the snorkelling option were not for us. Still it was a great experience. The boat trip there and back was excellent and despite some chop felt safe in that the crew were competent, professional and friendly. We also had the opportunity to purchase drinks and ice creams. Suggest before booking, check what activities are on offer, the times, then make the choice of a full or half day. Definitely worth a visit.

    Great half day tour.
Just have to say WOW. What a great experience we had today. Sailed at 11am. Returned on the 2pm ferry. Enough time to check out the lighthouse and a swim at Nudey beach. Highlight was the crew onboard the boat today. Sunday 23/5/2021. What a happy/friendly crew. Acknowledgment of traditional owners was extra special. Keep up the brilliant work. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Half day trip not worth it
Although the website promises 2h on the island it was past 12.30 when we arrived and so we only spent just over an hour on the island. (Left at 2pm). Couldn’t even extend our trip to return at 5pm as the boat was full.

    A great day
Well worth the trip. You can snorkel very safely by yourselves and see an array of fish and coral very close to the shore. Don’t bother paying for the snorkel tour , was very disappointing as the marine biologist only spoke about coral, we saw more species doing our own snorkel. Bar is good for a drink. We grabbed a sandwich at the general store for lunch. Ran out of time to do any of the walks

    Great day out
We took a trip out to Fitzroy Island for the day to do a bit of snorkelling on the beach. It was a bit rainy, but the water was warm. It was best at Nudey Beach.

A great trip to the stunning Fitzroy Island.
The staff are lovely, all very professional and friendly. Safety tips covered well with a little humour which was a nice touch. Once arrived on Fitzroy Island it is really up to you to do what you like. The secret garden is a beautiful a tranquil walk. There is a restaurant there with average food, but the sweet potato fries were delicious. You can get your snorkle gear very easily. Highly recommend getting stinger suit to be safe and then you can snorkle at ease. The water is crystal clear and just near the shore, you will see some coral and beautiful coloured fish. The glass bottom boat was a great trip, the guide/driver Peter was very knowledgeable and informative. A great way to see a bit of the reef with some good information, which was easy to understand. Overall i would reccommend this tour. Less touristy than green island, which made a very peaceful and memorable day. Thank you!

Great Day at Fitzroy Island w/ Raging Thunder.
We had a wonderful day. Lots of good snorkeling - nice reefs toward the rocks, a lot of fish at Nudey beach. We enjoyed the turtle rehabilitation center. A little hike to Nudey beach - wish we made more time to spend there. What I liked about Raging Thunder are their times of departure and arrival. Very convenient for us. Also, their staff was extremely friendly with great service.

Fitzroy Island - Great day out
we went to Fitzroy Island with the family for the first time. only 45min ferry trip from Cairns its a great option for families. Great place for swimming, snorkeling, Paddle boards and kayaks are on offer and full stinger suits. we also got to see baby reef sharks, plenty of fish and also some turtles. Also a must is the Glass bottom boat was great. staff were friendly and very helpful. Easy trip back from Fitzroy Island to Cairns Marina. had an amazing time, kids loved the paddle board experience.

    it was ok
Fitzroy island is a beautiful place for photos etc but we did need the full stinger suit, snorkelling near the pier was nice early on, saw some nice fish (and some jellyfish!). but as the day went on it got very choppy. We tried the standup paddle boards but it was a bit too rough to actually stand up, the kayaks were also included but we didn't use them.(you get 30 mins each time you hire them). We went for the 20 min walk to Nudey beach which was very pretty, its worth the walk, and there was some good snorkelling near the rocks. If i went again I would have snorkelled near the pier then had lunch and then gone to Nudey beach as you have to give all the gear back by 3pm. (we did everything then had lunch and were done by 230 pm (kids couldn't be bothered putting the stinger suits back on) and had to wait until 4pm for the boat. Don't really rate Foxy's, waited 40 mins for lunch as they lost the order and then it was under cooked. Also can't believe they actually have a guy guarding the toilets, they are just like park toilets. A tip The Cat is very hot inside so take a seat out the back in the shade, or upstairs in the sun with the breeze. (it had 1 aircon but really didn't work with 50 people inside). Would i go again? Yes but in winter. If you are tossing up between here and Green Island I would recommend Green Island we didn't need stinger suits there.

    A fantastic family day out!
We regularly visit Fitzroy Island as it is one of our favourite places for a family day out! The boat, food and staff are also fantastic and I can highly recommend a hike to the summit to take in the incredible views with a snorkel afterwards to cool off!

We took Fitzroy Day trip as wanted to do the scenic walk. The staff on the boat were awesome and very friendly considering rough seas and overcast weather. Definitely do the walk first thing off the boat as it is very steep and took us about two hours. We then went and had lunch at foxys which was okay. We ended up taking 2pm boat back as if you are not snorkelling then not very welcoming to day trippers with no where to sit comfortably when weather bad. The resort looks quite run down to be honest. There was a school group so half restaurant tables blocked off so no where to sit and enjoy lunch/drinks to relax and enjoy the view and the guy who was singing who was awesome but again not enough seats. Definitely go there when weather is sunny as you are out in the elements. Green island had better set up for day trippers in my opinion.

I would not recommend this trip. Most of the staff (apart from the marine biologist) I felt created an unwelcoming and unfriendly atmosphere from the beginning. This is advertised as a ‘tour’, but you are basically dumped on the island with little guidance from staff on what to do there, I had to find signs instead. I chose the glass bottom boat option which was very disappointing but this was mostly due to poor visibility in the water the whole day which made snorkelling extremely disappointing too, after 3 attempts I eventually gave up at seeing any sea life. The tour guide for the glass bottom boat seemed very uninterested in what he was talking about, and it only lasted 25 mins so seemed very overpriced. Despite this, the island itself was beautiful with great walks although there is not a whole lot to do there, food at foxys bar was good and friendly staff there. Maybe you would enjoy this trip better if you are with a group of people and have checked before going out that the visibility in the water is good, but I do not recommend for solo travellers, especially if you plan to snorkel by yourself because the current at nudey beach is strong and seemed dangerous.

Thanks for the feedback Lucy, I am disappointed to read your comments about crew when we're congratulated often with regards to the service they provide. We offer a ferry service to Fitzroy with the optional choice of joining snorkel tours, GBB tours and more. I do feel this is advertised very well via our website, brochures, digital communications guests receive before travel as well as the e boarding pass, communication from crew on board plus our crew members are available at the island should guests require assistance. I am sorry the visibility didn't sound to great on the day you travelled and i am happy to read you enjoyed the island. Thanks for writing in. Regards, Chris

Customer service wasn’t that great to engage with before or during the boat ride over. We were running 5 minutes late from traffic and when we called to let them know, the girl on the phone wanted to cancel us to a different day! When we arrived the boat was still there boarding some other late comers so I’m glad we didn’t listen to the girl over the phone and miss out on the day we paid for…

Fitzroy Island felt a bit overrated. The reef and water was beautiful, but going on the day trip meant that you were always with a lot if people. Pretty much everyone upon arrival went to either the cafe or Nudey Beach since they were the 2/4 things you could do. By 1pm myself and my partner had done everything that you could do and wished we could have caught an earlier ride home.

The glass boat, whilst a cool idea, was kind of a waste of time, we didn’t see much and from where we were sitting we could really see through the glass anyways. If I could go back I defs wouldn’t have paid the extra money for it! You would see everything better from snorkelling anyways…

Everyone spoke really highly of Fitzroy Island to me but honestly after being there, you can see everything you wanna see in half a day & also there’s some better Islands out there you could spend money day-tripping too!

The island itself has a beautiful reef and the snorkelling is good. However, the beach is uncomfortable with no where to sit beside on rough coral.

The biggest problem were the boats we travelled on. To begin with the first boat had engine failure and we had to move to a different boat and then on the way home the boat we came on also had engine failure which resulted in an hour delay which we were only informed of when we went to board. After 7 hours in the sun this was extremely frustrating.

Unless you are an avid diver/snorkeler I would not recommend coming to this island. We certainly will not be back.

On a positive note the turtle rescue centre is heartwarming.

Hi Holly, Sorry to read of your disappointment. I appreciate we had mechanical issues that day which doesn't help with a positive experience, however I did read on another review platform from a customer who travelled on the same departure and they we're impressed how we handled this so professionally. It's disappointing to read you wouldn't recommend the Island when we have so many 5 star reviews of it. We do appreciate your feedback though Holly and apologise for any time lost. Regards, Chris

My family and I went on the half day tour, this is good for either snorkeling or exploring the island but not enough time to do both so I would recommend the full day tour to properly experience the island. The reef is very close to the shore and we were able to see a lot of parrot fish, clams and angel fish. We didn't go on the guided tour and probably would have seen a lot more if we did but the snorkeling was still very good. If I were to go again I would probably bring my own snorkel gear or hire some elsewhere as my son and I were both given leaky snorkels which were quite annoying.

Took the trip to Fitzroy Island today in the torrential rain. Despite the weather, we still enjoyed snorkelling and were able to see a turtle and plenty of fish. What was strange though is that although we had prepaid and booked for snorkelling equipment, we were told when we arrived that we had to leave a cash "deposit" for gear that we would get back upon returning our gear. As this is 2022, lots of people didn't have cash so had to leave a "deposit" of their Medicare card or drivers licence instead.

Upon disembarking the vessel in the pouring rain we made our way over to Foxy's Bar. Within 5 minutes of arriving part of the restaurant had been flooded out. All lockers were booked out so we just had to leave our belongings under cover at Foxy's when we went snorkelling and hope for the best.

Toilet facilities near Foxy's became muddier and muddier as the day went on. Had to get changed in a muddy toilet cubicle as there wasn't any changing facilities.

The glass bottom boat was not worth it. We got out to the reef just around the corner and had a look at some coral. The driver said "now, you may notice there's not many fish around. That's because it's not deep enough for them here."

"Oh that's alright," I thought to myself, "I bet we will go out a bit deeper to see the fish. Nope, instead we turned around and went back to shore. A bit disappointing to go on a Glass Bottom boat and not see any fish. I saw the same coral on the boat as I did snorkelling close to the shore.

Great spot for a day trip. Definitely take the full day one. We were able to add on the snorkelling gear and glass bottom boat on board to Fitzroy Island. The snorkelling off Nudey Beach was awesome…loads of fish, stingrays and even a large turtle came to say hello. Glass bottom boat trip I wouldn’t bother with again. Unfortunately, there are currently NO lockers available, so you have to carry all your belongings around all day! Also, if you want to visit the Turtle Rehab Centre, you need to book at the main Fitzroy Island booking office…no signs told us this until we got to the Turtles! Overall a really good day with enthusiastic staff, but a couple of things that would have made it 5 stars.

Partner and I did the day trip to Fitzroy Island and thought it was absolutely unreal. We got the Snorkelling and Glass Bottom Boat tour which took us to a secluded location around the other side of the island. There we snorkelled for 45 minutes and the coral was colourful and exuberant, as well as the many fish swimming around the coral. Would recommend! All employees on the island were friendly and welcoming. We did the Green Island tour 2 day’s prior and in hindsight, it has nothing on Fitzroy Island (Fitzroy has less people, cheaper, better beaches, better reefs/coral). The toilet situation was fine for us as we had a day pass included with our tour but can see how this may be an issue if you’re doing the trip on it’s own without any add ons.

My family of 5 went to Fitzroy Island on a day trip. Apart from 2 of us being sea sick from the boat ride there and it raining most of the time it was a very lovely day out for the family. We got a package that included the boat trip there and back, a picnic lunch at the island that was very organised & delicious, free reign of the water equipment including snorkeling gear, stinger suits, water trampoline, kayaks & paddle boards. We definitely made the most of our time there. A few little suggestions for the island though - need more support to get on the water trampoline (really hard to climb up on) and some more places undercover if it rains (we cooped up at the pub with our 3 children while it rained) Loved our day there & would do it again!

My family went to Fitzroy Island on a day tour with Fitzroy Island Adventures. We had paid for snorkel hire and a sea trampoline was included, but for some reason, the trampoline was taken away & the kids didn’t get the chance to play on it.

The walk to the summit was quite tough, particularly when there is a time limit to get to the glass bottom boat tour at 12pm. However, on hindsight, you could miss the boat tour as it didn’t add that much to the day, as there wasn’t many fish you see, mainly some corals.

We were also disappointed with Nudey Beach. I think we went when the tide was high and there was hardly any sand on the beach, just lots of dead coral.

We then had a drink at the bar and it was very tranquil when the sea breeze was blowing through. A lovely way to end the day.

While it was great to go to an island, I’m not sure Fitzroy Island was the right one for my family.
