I’ve got nothing but positive things to say about this tour!
From the initial check in process to final debarking, the staff and crew were amazing, extremely helpful and full of vibrant energy.
This was a first for me; snorkelling. So the nerves were high but with a simple and engaging talk from ‘froggie’ I felt at ease along with a trusty pool noodle!
The snorkel itself was just beautiful, viewing the reef up close, watching the fish in their natural habitat was just amazing. I was in wow mode with each path I took.
There was an option for a guided tour at this reef with Alistair. I signed up but due to being so tired I didn’t join. What wasn’t made clear was this is an extra cost also, so please be aware when deciding whether you’d like to book.
Coming back on board for a bbq lunch, it was delicious. The salads fresh and flavourful, the fish cooked to perfection and the prawns deliciously fresh!
Next was onto the second reef. Pretty tired after my first snorkel I stuck to exploring the semi submarine. I personally loved it and I think it was due to seeing much more vibrant, colourful coral. This is extra $
I can’t recommend this cruise enough, I loved every minute of it and helped a first timer feel at ease.
Extra shoutout to Froggie for trying his upmost hardest to get my mum, a non swimmer, into that water.
And Alistair; you were full of knowledge and were able to answer any question thrown at you.

We loved the whole experience with Down Under cruises and evolution is the biggest and best boat in town. We received a surprise upgrade to the gold class lounge and that made the experience extra special.

Kudos to the young staff, they are so so hardworking and ensure everyone has a good time along with focus on safety.

Book directly with them, not through agents like Adrenaline.. the advertised ticket price might seem attractive but you will end up paying more if booking via 3rd party ticket agents.

We highly recommend this tour for the whole family.

All the best guys

Great service from everyone not just specific crew members. Eager to please and a very nice boat enhanced by their ability to keep it clean throughout the day. All equipment provided was in good condition and although we were hampered by weather, the locations were beautiful. The photographer does a great job of capturing everyone during their in water time. Our helicopter return trip was cancelled due to weather but we were compensated with a 30min scenic flight out of Cairns, worth more! Excellent way to keep a local returning when they have guests!

Thank you for choosing to adventure with us aboard Evolution! So sorry to read about the bad weather hindering your scenic flight over the GBR but so glad an alternative was found and suited you! We would always love to see you again!

We did this trip for 2nd time after 2007. The boat trip to the great barrier reef was great as well as the snorkelling and submarine experience. I was able to snorkel on my own despite being a weak swimmer and see great reef and sea turtles.

The boat was packed to 100% capacity and understandable due to Easter and post Covid rush. Food was tasty and adequate but average for the price $249 per person. More veg food can be provided.

The operator swim instructors should try to better guide novice and weak swimmers. Full safety precautions were taken.

We would have paid for the guided snorkelling tour but was booked out on arrival at boat and would help for company to inform prior that spaces are very limited.

It was fairly clear that the boat and submarines are getting old and will need some upgrades. But we recognise that tourism industry has been hard hit and is recovering. We would be more then happy to go back again.

Note Covid social distancing and mask precautions were not required.9

I completed this trip with my family including four adults and one infant. We did snorkelling, two introductory dives, and two semi-submersible tours. All of these are extra costs, but I still think this tour is very good value for money. The crew were all wonderful, informative and engaging. As far as taking an infant on the tour, that was challenging, but no more challenging than any all day event with an infant would be and the crew were very supportive and welcoming. There was plenty of air conditioned space for my daughter to spend the day in. My only wish is that we had been given a little more space on the boat to make nursing throughout the day more comfortable because we had to share a table with another group (who were very lovely); I wouldn’t have minded that as much except that a group of two got their own large booth beside us.

During the dive my husband had a medical event very much outside the control of the down under team and I think they handled it very well. We had excellent communication from the crew and there was one one lady in particular, one of the safety crew members/ first aid people that was exceptional. I regret that I did not get her name, there was so much going on that day, but she was probably in her early twenties with blonde hair and she was also working behind the bar during our tour on April 1st. I am only adding this part in case a member of the down under team reads this review because she was exceptionally compassionate and showed genuine concern for my husband and I would like her to be recognized for this.

I would recommend this tour to families looking for a fun day to explore the reef.

It was a wonderful experience. We had bad weather that day with winds and rain, but we made the most of it. The boat ride was a bit rough (so we had to take TravelCalm tablets), the reef was beautiful, lunch, snacks and wine was good.
There is only one down thing for us. We were asked (via text and follow-up calls) the day before the trip to pay the extra $20 per person for petrol and stuff, which we did. But on the tour, we found out that others didn’t have to pay it. It was not much but annoying to know that we paid this extra fees unnecessarily.

Everyone should do this.
This is a well oiled machine. Everyone working on this boat is experienced, and friendly and knowledgeable.
Covid friendly, everyone was allocated their own table and area.
We did the introductory dive, and it was fantastic. Everyone was given a talk on safety and what to expect.
The water was clear and we were met by a giant fish, and a turtle came right up to say hello.
The dive instructor was careful, but also fun.
The food was also served in a covid friendly way.
We went to the outer barrier reef, which was beautiful.
I would recommend the Evolution because it is fast, and as it is a long way out you are not wasting too much time travelling due to the speed.
Food was great, staff amazing, especially Eddie, who was so friendly.
The day was magical, the staff amazing, and I would certainly rebook to do this again.

Thanks guys.

This was such an excellent tour and I would highly recommended during your time in Cairns. This tour was highly organised from the beginning and throughout, which made the tour much more enjoyable and allowed the day to run smoothly. From the commencement, you knew exactly where to go, when to collect your items, the safety requirements, what the weather was going to be like for the day etc. It is a beautiful boat, with comfortable seating and amenities. The staff were informative and helpful, but also seemed to really be enjoying their jobs and incorporated humour into their work. We visited two locations with a variety of marine life, and I was in awe of it's beauty!
We were provided ample time to explore without feeling rushed. We had quite big swells during our time on the water (obviously completely out of their control), however, we had warning of this prior to leaving the dock and were recommended to take sick sickness pills. There were a few of the guests who became unwell during the return journey, but staff did an excellent job of looking after guests and also distracting others with humour. Further, checking on all the passengers to ensure they were okay.
Lunch was delicious and included steak, seafood and salad. Guests were also able to help themselves to second and third helpings if they wanted.
For what was provided we thought this tour was very affordable and would definitely do again and recommend to others!

We had a great day on the boat. Staff were very professional, attentive to detail and friendly; especially Eddy. The boat seemed more like a luxury cruise liner than a charter boat. Aussie bbq lunch was great. The photographer who took pictures under water was brilliant and photo prices were very affordable. Diving instructors were very professional and helpful. We would highly recommend this company to go and explore the Great Barrier reef with!

Crew were fantastic ,intro dives were great, instructors very capable and professional. We also did the semi submersible which was also great. As far as value for money goes I couldn’t recommend more highly even the bar prices are the lowest you will find in cairns. It would be easy to take advantage and charge over inflated prices as they have a captive market but they don’t and I think that should be mentioned . Thankyou our family had a great day and will definitely recommend to anybody coming to cairns looking to spend a day at the reef !
