About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Steve W0 contributionsWorst experienceBoarded the boat and it was absolute chaos with half eaten food everywhere and nowhere for us to sit . So we asked a crew member where we should sit and was told you have to find you own seats . We tried and asked several people if they good move up to make space but after 5 mins we gave up and got off the boat . The crew were just interested in the young people . Be warnedWritten 10 March 2024
- HoyoungA10 contributionsAwesome trip! Recommend private guide!3 dives with family (2 adults, 15yo girl, 12yo boy), private guide. Trip was amazing! Weather and ocean conditions are no doubt important, and admit we were lucky on both. However, that is not all, and I consider staff professionalism another important factor. From that perspective, was very impressed. Overall management was smooth, and our dive guide (Paul) helped my children so well that I was able to relax and enjoy the view. And most importantly, the intense after-dive briefings were incredible! I’ve been diving in several places before, and I’ve never seen dive guides so intent on teaching and helping divers appreciate what they saw that day (not just my guide, but every one of them). Highly recommend this operator, and private guide if possible (only available by phone call).Written 17 January 2024
- October1410660 contributionsGiving corporate tour businesses a bad nameI booked (and paid) for an outer reef trip months in advance. With a few weeks left I was informed our trip was being canceled for "mechanical" reasons. We had to scramble a bit to get a similar trip on Passion III (which was very good). On the return to Cairns we saw the boat we were originally booked on also returning to port full of people. I think we were bumped for a "group" tour. Hey, jerks, if your gonna cancel people how about you (1) don't lie about the reason and (2) provide alternatives to those your bumping instead of making them do all the rebooking research/work.Written 18 October 2023
- David_C_C_10 contributionsVery enjoyable experienceDid a three dive trip on Silverswift and it went off very well. The staff were extremely well organised and put the divers at ease with their professionalism. Myself and my daughter had not dived since 2019 because of COVID but they did a quick skills test at the first dive site and revised our knowledge before stepping into the blue and it all came back quickly. A really positive trip. Thanks to our divemaster Scott Su too for his work.Written 3 July 2023
- 833gustavob0 contributionsCancellation because they just decided tooI came to Cairns and choose this boat to go and meet the great barrier. Just 20 hours before the boat was supposed to leave I had a call from them saying that they were canceling the trip because they didn’t had enough people to go and told me to ask for the cancellation on TripAdvisor. When I did they said they wouldn’t give a me refund because I canceled with less then 24 hours for the ride. So far it all seems to be really dodgy for me.Written 16 February 2021
- crockery0 contributionsCertified diver day tourYou pay a basic price for the day trip, and then add the price for one, two or three dives, depending upon how many you want to do. I wanted to do two dives and one snorkel, so that’s what I paid for. I was very happy with that. Another diver initially paid for two dives, then added the third dive while on the boat, so you can change your mind and add on (assuming there is capacity.). The service on the boat was great - it’s a very professional, well-run company. I’ll definitely go with them again. The dive master, Sam, is absolutely fantastic. She is one of those rare people who ticks every box for leading great dives, and is a lovely person to chat with on the way home. All around fantastic, memorable day. Highly recommended.Written 29 July 2020
- hvent1230 contributionsExcellent diving on Flynn Reef!Had a great day doing 3 certified dives with our dive master DJ on the Silverswift. The reef had an abundance of fish and healthy coral. On the boat the crew were very professional with COVID protocols in place to ensure everyone's safety. Would highly recommend diving with Silverswift!Written 16 July 2020
- maocsek0 contributionsAll the time UnderwaterVery great day out as certified divers. Wasn’t too crowded and the groups were very well organized into different schedules. Responsible prep talk and groups kept small. Loved the whole day and special thanks to our instructor Chi who kept the energy high the whole day. Food was more than enough and it was also well arranged that the snorklers and divers eat at different time so you didn’t have to “fight” over food :)Written 28 December 2019
- stuartd3080 contributionsOne of the Great Wonders of the world! My wife and I did this trip in early December and had an absolute great day. We chose the snorkelling option but would love to go back and do the diving option. Great crew, great boat, great service and very obvious safety is very important and the reef, well, just WOW!! We only had about half the number of customers they could have fit so in and out of the water in about 5 mins. Except a bit longer with a full boat.Written 25 December 2019
- Jennycwitt0 contributionsProfessional ExcellentMy husband and I had a 5* day with Ty and the team. They were the height of professionalism, I felt very safe and well looked after. Kit was great quality and there was a lady doing a final check before you stepped in to the water. Ty knew his dive sites well, knowing where all the wildlifes hiding spots and homes are, whilst being respectful of their habitat. I could write for days. Good food, great boat, excellent team, brilliant dive spots. Highly recommend.Written 23 December 2019
- fw930 contributionsVery well organised dayFrom check in, to snorkel/dive briefings, to lunch and subsequently the ride back home, it was a great trip. We had knowledgable staff on board. It was quite a busy day as we had a few stops around the 3 reefs. The only downside was that I couldn't do my introductory dive on board because apparently they had too many divers. Shame.Written 21 December 2019
- cyt08130 contributionsHad a good day at the sea! With friends for the day. I did 3 certified dives and my friends 2 intro dives Great day and very intense but organized! Thanks for the divemasters super nice!Written 21 December 2019
- malcolmb9630 contributionsAmazingWe thoroughly enjoyed our day with Silverswift. Admittedly we had pristine weather and that will not always be the case. The crew were amazing, very friendly and helpful. Equipment was good quality, and none of us had any issues with masks leaking etc. The food was good enough without being exceptional. The boat is a great size. Big enough to be comfortable without being too big with ots of passengers. The access off the back of the boat for snorkeling is great. My only criticism would be the price of the photos the crew take. I would have purchased a few if they were priced better.Written 16 December 2019
- AbbieR25120 contributionsThe BEST day divingFrom the minute we booked the trip the customer service as amazing. With a food allergy we emailed them and were sent the menu for the day and reassured that there would be the appropriate options available. Then from the moment we stepped onto the boat the crew were amazing. Tea and coffee was served with muffins straight away and the food all day was absolutely delicious. They were very health and safety focused which was great and we got straight into watching a instruction video before our first dive. Our instructor Julian was brilliant and made us feel safe and confident under the water. Although having only booked one dive before, we booked onto a second dive on the boat! All the crew were brilliant, giving us lots of information about the Reef and the different fish/coral we saw under the water. Great talk from Jono about the reef after the first dive (think that’s his name sorry if not! He was Brazilian) The snorkelling was great fun too in beautiful spots. Highly recommend Silverswift, we had such a memorable day.Written 16 December 2019
- Soycape0 contributionsGreat day in the reefWe booked the discovery dive trip with my husband as none had done diving before. In the first hour sailing they do the instructions for scuba diving by groups and after it I started feeling sea sick, so we cancelled the dives. Their refund policy was that they would return 100% if you did not go into the water. They took us to 3 spots to snorkel, being the 3rd one the best as it included a snorkel safari by Davo that was very instructive and fun. The buffet included 2 hot options and several cold ones. Soft drinks not included. Alex was going to be our diving instructor and she was great. Also there was an Asian girl with Nemo pants in the crew that helped me so much with my sea sickness that I can't thank her enough.Written 15 December 2019

The weather was cloudy and some rain on the way out to the reef so rather bumpy ride—prepare with some Dramamine or other aid if you are susceptible. The scuba dives were truly amazing. I hadn’t dove for 10 years but Marcos gave me a refresher and made me feel comfortable. We had 4 divers to one guide. Marcos very knowledgeable and a great guide! Saw an octopus, several eels, a shark, giant clams and so many colorful coral and fish. The dives were 40-45 minutes each so you really get your moneys worth. Highly recommend!!

I tried the three diving plan. Since we went to the open ocean, the water was very clear, and there were many beautiful corals that I have never seen in other countries.
I made a reservation assuming that the guide would be in English, but on the day, there were two Japanese staff members who spoke to me in Japanese. There were many Japanese participants, but they said that there are not many usually.
One thing to note is that the inside of the boat is very cold. It seems that Europeans are fine with it, but it is extremely cold for Japanese people, so it is better to take proper measures against the cold. Also, it rocks a lot, so if you don't like it, it is better to take motion sickness medicine.
The curry lunch was also delicious, and it was a very satisfying tour.

old couple snorkelling and scuba diving for the 1st time , (67 & 61) , staff were really great , had time and patience for everyone irrespective of ability , and as we are not strong swimmers a guide physically led us out on the 2nd snorkel trip over the reef , so we could enjoy the experience fully . What a beautiful place. AND at the heart of it safety was always their priority . Can't thank and praise them enough.

We went on the Silver Swift day boat. We chose this tour because of the option to do 3 dives in one trip, and we wanted to maximize our time on the reef.
On the boat we requested to do non-guided dives as we are 2 very experienced and active divers (active instructor with 2000+ dives & rescue diver with 300+ dives).
We were told that this was not an option and all divers had to go in guided groups no matter experience level and that groups had been divided according to experience. We were not informed of the requirement to do guided dives prior to booking, and this is also not noted on the company website.
We were assured that the 3 other divers in our group were also experienced divers and that we shouldn't worry, even though we expressed concerns based on our observations prior to the dive.
The first dive was 40 minutes and the majority of the time was spend over sand bottom nowhere near the reef since 2 of the 3 other divers could not control their buoyancy and kept kicking up sand.
After the dive, we were told that other divers did in fact not have very much experience (4 dives, 70 dives and 190 dives) and for some reason they decided to bump the non-experienced divers up to our group so the 3 could dive together rather than moving the experienced diver down to a join a less experienced group.
For the following 2 dives we were moved to a different group with a new guide and more experienced divers. These dives were actually over the reef and enjoyable although we still would have preferred to just go in our own buddy-team.
Recommendation: If you are an experienced diver, save your money and go with one of the companies (for example Tusa or Divers Den) that actually cater to experienced divers, give proper briefings and let you dive in your own buddy pair if you prefer.

While the boat has a capacity of 80pax the dressing area for divers and snorkelers is quite small. The lunch was very average, ratatouille, pork curry, cold chicken, potatoe salad, coleslaw and pasta. We hired a private dive guide, which I recommend if you are not an experienced diver. Ours was Eve and she was excellent. there are no private spaces, so if you are not snorkelling or diving then good to know.
Overall we had a good time, and ofcourse the barrier reef is just amazing. We feel blessed to have been able to visit this beautiful creation of nature.

A fantastic day out which included time on Green island and a visit to the pontoon on the Great Barrier Reef which gave the best of both worlds.
I dived on the Reef but my wife stayed on the pontoon to relax and was able to see the wonders of the reef herself from their glass bottomed vessel.
I was lucky to have one on one instruction on my dive and the instructor was great as this was only my second dive he made me feel completely safe at all times and pointed out so many things of interest during the dive. After the dive I also had ample time to snorkel on my own and to relax on the sundeck.
Excellent and varied choice of food on the pontoon.
The day of our trip the sea conditions were not the best from Green island to the Reef but the staff on the boat could not have been caring ensuring all passengers were well looked after.
I would certainly recommend this trip to everyone as it caters for divers of all experience and also for those people who would just like to visit the reef and do things at their own pace.

The experience was amazing and the staff were all really awesome!
Fair warning - it was bumpy getting out to the reef and people were a bit sick. I am 27 weeks pregnant so couldn’t take any seasickness tablets but the staff were lovely and really accommodating. If you get seasick, sit at the back of the boat outside from the start of the trip as it was so much better than sitting inside.
My husband did an introduction dive which he asked to do last minute which they accommodated easily and he loved it.
The snorkeling was also amazing. The water was a bit rough and wavy but we still saw a lot of fish and a turtle! My husband saw a white tip shark while on the dive which he said was really great.
The lunch looked really nice - I didn’t have any only because I didn’t want to push my luck and get too sick for the boat ride back but by all accounts it was tasty.
The staff were really friendly and made me feel really comfortable even though I was feeling sick on the way there. The boat wasn’t as bad on the way back and a lot of people weren’t sick compared to on the way out.
Definitely book this trip. It is worth it!!
My husband took some seasickness tablets before we went and he felt fine the whole time so don’t let the reviews of the rough waves put you off but just mentally prepare for a bumpy trip out.

Hi Katie,
Thank you for your wonderful review! We're so glad to hear you had an amazing experience and that our staff made you feel comfortable and accommodated throughout. It’s great to know your husband enjoyed his last-minute introduction dive and that you both had an incredible time snorkeling and seeing the marine life, including a turtle and shark!
Thank you for recommending the trip, and we hope to welcome you both back for another unforgettable adventure! 🌊🐢🌟

For anyone thinking they might like to give snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef a go, I highly recommend a trip out with this team.
We went as a group of four, with varying swimming abilities, expectations and confidence levels.
The snorkelling team on the day (Jordan and Eve), catered to all of our abilities, made the nervous feel safe and offered great advice where needed.
Our group had an incredible time in the water, from those who pottered around closer to the boat, and those who went out for a larger adventure.
The food (and gentlemen serving it) was fantastic, the boat was clean and comfortable, and every member of staff were just fabulous.
We left with enormous smiles after a great day out, and will certainly be back in the future.

Fantastic day on the reef with a wonderful, caring crew & beautiful food. The crew were warm, friendly & safety conscious and remained professional but funny at all times. This is a well oiled machine and the crew know exactly what the objectives are and work tirelessly to ensure that all guests have a great time. We were supported, mentored, entertained, lead and fed in an easy and effortless way. Captain Todd was great, and explained decisions and timing so those of us who were sea sick were looked after with minimum fuss. We highly recommend this trip, and vegetarians will be very happy with the lunch, which is the best I have ever had a on a tour in any country.

One of the best days in our 6-week tour of Australia and New Zealand!
Silverswift's boat is large enough to travel smoothly on the water, but small enough to have a more personal feel to it. Morning tea was served as we arrived on the boat. A guide helped to fit us with the equipment we'd need to snorkel and gave us basic info that we needed.
During the 3 snorkeling times, the crew was attentive to our positions in the water, allowing everyone to swim as they wished, but keeping everyone from travelling to far away for their own safety. During the third snorkeling time, a crew member lead a tour in the water, showing us coral and water creatures... a great experience. I'm not a great swimmer, but because of his leadership, I was comfortable going a distance from the boat with his group.
The variety of food at lunch was great. It was self-serve, so we could eat whatever we wanted. Tea/coffee and treats were served throughout the afternoon for those who didn't want to snorkel all 3 times, or for the snorkelers when we finished.

Hi, I would like to take one day trip to outer Reef on 9th November 2022. Just would like to know how many dives in a day? I am a PADI OW certified diver with around 20+ dive logs. Need to know Dive Master and Divers ratio.

You can do 3 dives on the day out, if you want. Ratio depends on the amount of people doing certified dives. When I went we had 7 divers in our group with the dive master.

Hi,
Are vaccination cards still required? I have an electronic card only for fully vaccinated. No boosters though. Thank you,

Hi, are the underwater digital cameras better / different to action cams like GoPros? And how much do they cost? And how much are the pictures that are available for purchase after the tour? Thanks in advance :)

Hi, if your diving then they prefer you not to take your own camera in case you drop / lost it, I think if you had a GoPro that you can attach to your body then that would be fine. I don't know how much underwater cameras cost but would say a GoPro would be best priced compared to what an underwater camera would cost to obtain similar picture quality. The guys on the boat have dedicated camera personal so they take some goods pictures of you under water which you would struggle to get yourself.
Prices are expensive in my opinion, one picture for example was around $15 AUS dollars or two for 25 when I went I didn't buy any, but they take around 4/5 of you from different angles and you can buy all of them and get a copy on a USB stick for around 50 dollars from memory.
Hope that helps

Hello! My husband and I are looking for places to dive as trained divers. As we want to see what is less common, what program would you recommend us to join? Thx

The Silverswift offers snorkeling and diving on two cay stops. I believe each lasts about an hour. The divers to whom I spoke had a great time and they got to see the best sights of the reefs because they could go all the way down.

Coming on March 9th 2019, with Oceania cruise ship at 8am. What time does your tours leave, can we walk from the cruise terminal as well we have no confirmation as to the exact time of our ship docking? Any ideas?
Written 17 December 2018
It’s up to you if you want to risk it. Google maps says 8 minutes walk between terminals. The tour starts loading at 8:30 and takes about 15 minutes to load. If you’re on the manifest, they might wait a little bit for you, but you should check with them directly. How fast can you get off your cruise ship?
