Overview
The Kuranda Scenic Railway runs from Cairns to Kuranda, affording spectacular views of Queensland’s UNESCO-listed rainforests. On this tour, experience Gold Class service as you ride the famous railway, enjoy free time to explore the markets and wildlife parks of Kuranda, then ride the thrilling Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for even more incredible views.
What to Expect
After pickup from your Cairns or Port Douglas hotel, transfer to the railway station to board the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Using your skip-the-tickets, hop straight aboard and take your seats in the comfortable Gold Class carriages. On the 1-hour 45-minute journey, gaze out over the magnificent landscapes of the Barron Gorge National Park, with its dense rainforest, dramatic gorges, and tumbling waterfalls. As you take in the views, sip a glass of sparkling wine and enjoy the tea, coffee, and snacks provided.

On arrival, enjoy free time to browse the shops or purchase lunch in Kuranda village, learn more about the region’s indigenous heritage at the Tjupakai Aboriginal Cultural Park (optional, own expense), or spot kangaroos and koalas in the Rainforestation Nature Park (optional, own expense).

Return to Cairns with a thrilling ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, including two stops at viewing stations along the way, where you can enjoy an even closer view of the rainforest, following purpose-built boardwalks.

Back in Cairns, your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Loved gold class on the train ride!

The seats were very comfortable with a special boarding area with mocktails that were very refreshing. Staff was amazing and served drinks and several appetizers all along the way which meant I had no appetite for lunch in kuranda which was fine for me. The...More

Highly recommend this tour.

Enjoyed travelling in Gold Class. Although, seats are grouped in 4s and theere’s insufficient space to comfortably accommodate that number. Fortunately, there were only 2 of us. Seats were very comfortable. Mocktails served in the Pavilion on the platform before departing. Tasty snacks and Anzac...More

Good but disorganised

The train trip and the sky rail was definitely worth the trip. However the organisation left a lot to be desired. No maps or info on what and how to structure the day - just the ticket vouchers. As a result we missed the rainforest...More

We went railway up (Gold class, well worth the extra money, you get lots of room, a lovely morning tea, and can see both sides of the railway easily), we took the Skyrail back which is a much quicker trip down the mountain.

There are a couple of stops on the way down that are well worth taking the time to do. If you ride straight down it is probably 1/2 hour -40 minutes but if you stop add another hour. Have fun, it's pretty cool to do.
