Itinerary
- 1In the morning, your 4WD coach picks you up from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, then travels to the ferry to Moreton Island. During the 75-minute ferry ride across Moreton Bay, take in views from the deck or cabin, keep an eye out for dolphins and other marine life. When you reach the island, your 4WD-vehicle drives along the sand to the Tangalooma Wrecks where you have several options for beachside fun. Follow your guide on a snorkeling tour of the famous shipwrecks; the 15 vessels were purposely sunk here to create a breakwall. This resulting reef is home to colorful corals, tropical fish, trevally, yellowtail, wobbegong, kingfish and more. If snorkeling doesn’t appeal to you, use the provided transparent bodyboards to paddle in search of turtles, reef fish, coral and other critters, or simply relax on the white-sand beach. After the snorkel tour, your guide serves a picnic lunch before leading a tour on transparent kayaks to explore the Tangalooma Wrecks. Stay dry as you view an amazing array of fish right below your kayak. (Please note that a 4WD tour around the island will replace the snorkeling and kayaking if conditions are unfavorable). Next, hang on tight as your driver takes your 4WD on rough inland tracks to tall sand dunes that are ideal for sandboarding, a fun, high-adrenaline activity comparable to tobogganing. It is possible to reach speeds of up to 30 mphr (50 kph) as you zip down the dunes. After sandboarding, return to the coast and enjoy a swim at Tangalooma Beach (if time allows). Then catch the ferry back to the mainland and reach Brisbane or the Gold Coast in the evening.

- Geoffrey G0 contributionsA great tour for someone who love water activities and adventureThis tour was full of thrilling activities starting with snorkeling, then sand boarding, overnight camping, swimming in blue lagoon and champagne pools. Our guide (I think his is called Ret) organised the trip and showed us stories of Indigenous resident of Moreton Island and some bush tuckers on the island.Written 25 February 2022
- Diane D0 contributionsA great day on MoretonI am glad to have chosen this company. + It was a little more expensive than others but I wanted to have both snorkeling and kayak activities included in the day and most companies offer one or the other, whereas SS garanties both. The staff was professional, knowledgeable and friendly, the timing perfectly managed and the equipment very good (transparent kayaks, 4WD bus, jetski to take us to/back from the wrecks faster, snorkels). Very good service and value.-I would advise to improve the lunch which was very basic. Why not to offer better options prepared/purchased ahead. As a vegetarian, I had no protein but only vegetables to put in my wrap. I would also be glad to have some biscuits or something sweet instead of just fruits. But I am still glad the food was fresh and healthy(vegetables and fruits). Thank you SS for this beautiful day!Written 24 December 2020

Could not believe the inclusions with the desert sand boarding and night time Kayaking with the led lights being the highlight. Meals included were amazing and never did we feel hungry or unsure of the days plan. Very happy with the tour and would go again for sure. - O4552QDandreap0 contributions3 Day Great Barrier Reef and Lady Musgrave TourThis was my first time visiting Australia and the Great Barrier Reef with my family. Our tour guide, Harry was fun and showed us some great sites around the area. The tour was made for a larger number, but I was surprised with a smaller tour group which made it easier to get to know each other and travel from place to place. The description of the tour is not as detailed which worried me a little about the day to day itinerary, but when I was on the tour, everything was planned out nicely, the food was great and the resort we stayed at was lovely, (Kelly's Beach Resort). The day we spent on the Great Barrier Reef was beautiful and breath taking, especially the snorkeling! We also had the opportunity to learn paddle boarding and surfing as well! Don't worry if you can't swim, the instructors will take great care of you. I highly recommend this tour and hopefully you can get a great guid like Harry.Written 14 March 2020
- MightyQuinn080 contributionsGet Wrecked! Morten Island Day TourFrom the moment Chris greeted us at the ferry dock for our trip out to Morten Island, we knew this tour group was going to be great. The staff was laid back and friendly and really great at setting expectations for the day early and keeping us informed. The ride over was chill and the ferry has some great nosh if you had to skip breakfast for the early departure. Once on the island, everything is timed so well. We never felt like we wasted our time yet never feeling rushed. I wish I could remember the names of all the staff because they were freaking phenomenal. Approachable, funny, considerate, and serious about safety. Some tours (most cruise excursions, imo) have guides that don't cover enough about how to be safe in activities and someone ends up getting injured and ruining it for the rest of the group. Some of these activities can be dangerous for weak swimmers or people not used to heat, they made sure there was ample equipment, help, and instructions to stay safe and have a great time. I really appreciated that. This tour was action packed and casual and had all the Australian hospitality I could ask for. Would definitely do this again! Overall tips: - Sand boarding is HOT yet fun. Ask your guide on the ferry if you can be in the first group to go out. It was nice to end in the water and start of dry. Wear your sandals or footwear in the sand unless you have feet made of stone. The dunes are deceiving and the walk up them and back can be trying as you're in soft sand and walking up steep angles. I did not drink enough water before going out. Had a blast sliding down the dunes. Be prepared to eat sand, it's inevitable. - Bring lots of sunblock and even more water. And change of clothes. - Facilities are limited, you're basically at a beach campground. There are showers and hybrid toilets but don't expect air conditioning (except on the 4x4 bus) or luxury places to relax and eat. You'll be sitting on sand most of the day. - Bring a go pro or phone protector for pictures. I was dumb and didn't pack my go pro and between all the sand and water activities, I didn't get to take as many pictures as I wanted because of the environments the activities were in. (Still brushing sound out of crevices in my phone. Lol) - Be prepared for physical activities. You're not driven to the top of the dunes or in a fake reef area. Those with physical limitations should be realistic when booking or consider skipping activities. Thanks Chris and the rest of the tour staff for one for the memory books. Can't wait to bring more friends next time I visit Brisbane.Written 8 March 2020

- sweden215620 contributionsSpectacular journeyThe island cannot be better explored than a 4WD. Driving on the beach up to the lighthouse, then thru the middle road to three more beaches. Although this is not the season to watch whales but the landscape alone is worth the trip. The trip is not demanding even for a retired couple in the 70s like ourselves. Chris is well prepared, lunch in the tent, ample water supply during the day.Written 29 February 2020

- yansuen76770 contributionsStunning scenery, lovely guides & fun packed tourWent to my first Moreton Island trip with a bunch of friends and left with so much love and memories. The sand Island is near pristine with crystal clear water and beautiful native trees. We had a chill first day on a 4WD around the island, very aussie experience, driven by our funny tour guide Grant who so happen to be an amazing cook as well! Gotta say meals prepared throughout the trip were surprisingly good. The bunk we stayed at was just a short walk to the beach, watching the sunset and stargazing on the beach was magical. Second day was the fun stuff, sandboarding (so blown away by the vast dessert!), snorkelling among fishes and kayaking around the shipwrecks. All of us agreed that this trip was remarkable. Shoutout to our super lovely guides Grant & Natasha for taking great care of us and definitely made this trip much more enjoyable & memorable, Thank you! I truely hope anyone visiting the island would continue to protect this gem, keep it clean with care & love.Written 30 October 2019

The scenic view on the island is fantastic and activities are amazing! It is unforgettable to have lunch at Cape Moreton Lighthouse. To oversee the coastline from Cape Moreton Lighthouse makes me relaxed. Chris is the best tour guide I have ever met. he took care of every participant and was willing to go out of his way to help everyone. He is so knowledgeable so I learn more. Me and my boyfriend were hesitant to book this due to the price of the tour, after reading many reviews on trip advisor and getyourguide saying it was worth the money we thought we would give it a go. Im so glad we did as i have now been in Aus nearly 3 months and this is the most fun I’ve had my whole time here. We started off kayaking, the see-through kayaks made this experience even more surreal! I have never seen so many fish, we were able to throw bread and all the fish were racing and jumping out of the water to catch it. We kayaked up, down and through the shipwrecks on the island. We then moved onto snorkelling, we were provided with full wetsuits gloves and flippers, I’m usually very scared of swimming in the sea due to fish however as we were fully covered we weren’t able to feel the fish touching us. There were so many different fish to see i would recommend opting for the life jacket as you are out in the deep water for quite a long time so its easier and leaves you being able to properly look at the fish rather than panicking for breath (although the reps are always there with floats for you to grab onto). After the water sports we had lunch on the beach, i wasn't expecting much maybe just a ham sandwich but i was very pleasantly surprised! It was a make your own sandwich type of situation, you grab a bread bun (which were ridiculously soft) and choose the salad, main fillings (tuna, ham, beef, chicken) and then pick your sauce (plenty of food to go around as you can have as many sandwiches as you like!). There was also lots of watermelon and crisps. The final activity was sandboarding- which was both mine and my boyfriends favourite- despite the rain it was still so much fun! It is a very tiring activity however well worth the trekking up the sand hills each slide, the ‘desert’ is breath taking as well. I cant thank Chris and our other tour guides enough for their knowledge and friendliness they shared with us, i would recommend this to people of all ages, it was so much fun and 100% worth the money, we had the best day!

The trip to Moreton island was the highlight of my trip to Brisbane. I am an experienced solo traveller, going on at least one every school holidays (I am a teacher).
The tour guides: Rhett, Josh and Isaiah, were fantastic and very professional. They had excellent knowledge of the island it’s wildlife as well as for the activities they hosted.
The group of people the tour attracted were awesome. I met a fellow solo traveller and have since made a solid friendship that extends beyond the trip.
When looking at which group to go with to the island, definitely check the reviews. The one with Australian Sunset Safaris appears to be one of the more expensive (by $20) but you are fed an excellent healthy lunch with options for more than one portion; have time to do sand boarding, snorkelling and kayaking rather than one or the other with the latter two and no last minute cancellations which I know has happened with other trip operators. Well worth the additional dollar to do it right!

This 1 day tour did not disappoint! It’s was very laid back, never felt rushed as the guides were so helpful and friendly. Snorkeling the ship wrecks was a highlight. So many fish to see, even turtles! The glass bottom boat was great to see the wrecks from above and we were give bread to feed the fish as well. Sand sledding was a thrill, and our guide, Chris, amazingly ran up the hill every time to make sure we all got fun footage of ourselves going down! Highly recommend to anyone! Will be going back!

The island is beautiful and it's really worth to visit, however the company Sunset Safari, they are expensive, they rush everyone in every activity. The Snorkelling was really fast, I bought a 7:45 start, they sent an email later the night before saying we would be leaving at 9:15 and we left the port at 10:45, arriving on the island almost 12:00 to do 3 activities. The "sandboard" is a joke, they literally give you a piece of timber board so you can eat sand while you ride down the dune. The Staff was friendly and nice however it's way too expensive for the experience you have.

The two-day trip to Moreton Island with Sunset Safaris was fantastic. The moment you arrive on the Island you are welcomed by breath taking views of crystal clear water and pure white sand.
When we arrived on the Island the 4WD bus picked us up. I was in awe as we drove along the beach and through the sandy roads. Extremely grateful that infrastructure hadn’t crept in to this part of the Island. Our first stop was sand boarding in The Desert. Regardless of our age, this activity definitely awakens the inner child in all of us.
We were then taken to Blue Lagoon for a quick swim and a nice lunch. People in our tour had special dietary requirements, which Sunset Safaris welcomely catered for.
Other activities on this trip included snorkelling around the shipwreck, transparent day and night kayaking (weather permitting) and a lighthouse tour. We even spotted a few whales while we travelled around the Island.
For anyone who is like me, loves the ocean and nature, but is reluctant to go camping because the thought of not having a toilet around scares you. I get it, it’s the one luxury you don’t want to let go of. Well, you will be pleased to know they have decent toilets that a managed by National Parks Rangers not far from the campgrounds.
Most importantly, this trip would not have been as memorable if it wasn’t for our brilliant tour guides, Rhett and Bones. Not only are they filled with abundant knowledge of every detail of the Island they can cook, sing, play the guitar and teach you a thing or two about the galaxy. The food and entertainment were amazing. Additionally, they both have brilliant photography skills. Rhett set up photos for us to take and taught us a few skills along the way. I have never come back from a holiday with such great photos. Even my friends were amazed that I actually took some decent photos. Trust me, that’s saying a lot. Both Rhett and Bones really went above and beyond their requirements to deliver genuine professional customer service.
Thanks Sunset Safaris, thanks Rhett and Bones you truly made our weekend away one we will remember forever. I would definitely do another Sunset Safari tour without any hesitation.

This was honestly a beautiful experience. All the activities were super fun- and seemed to go for just the right amount of time! The food was delish and the tour guides were great!
The only downfall was the communication. I tried to call to confirm my booking before the day and the phone call didn't get answered/I didn't get a call back. Then on the day the bus driver was late in the morning (only by 20mins) which would've been fine if there was a text message or some way of letting people know as the booking confirmation said the bus would be leaving at a sharp time. I spoke to a security person at the bus stop who says 'he arrives when he arrives'. There were a couple of people from the tour going from terminal to terminal looking for the bus but couldn't find it. Then when we got off the boat- they'd spoken about what was going to happen but they just went missing for a couple of minutes while we waited for them. Honestly still a great experience- if they had've communicated a little better it would've been 5 stars for sure!
Also, you could tell that they were definitely taking into consideration other reviews as they had implemented nearly everything from any feedback I had read which I really appreciate in a company. So on the day, they only took out the kayaks that were in the best condition to see the fish.
Thanks for a great day!

Overall a nice day however the water was so cold at the wrecks no one could really enjoy them. If you want to run this tour in winter you need to get proper wetsuits, the 3ml ones aren't thick enough. Most of the customers couldn't complete the snorkeling and had to come back on the jetski and the staff who had to stay in the water were obviously struggling with the cold. Would not recommend this trip in cool months until the company gets proper wetsuits

The experience definitely had some learning curves if we were to ever suggest going for others. We wished we’d factored in the travel it takes, our starting pick up location being the Gold Coast at 5:20 in the morning to meet. The travel before and after is excessively long and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless staying closer to the jetty point. We were unfortunate enough to encounter on the island numerous people becoming bogged in their vehicles which slowed down and actually ate into our experience time. The first activity being sand boarding didn’t faze us as it wasn’t particularly something we cared to do at all but the facilitators were having to rush us to do the first activity to give everyone a go. It wasn’t until we were on our way for lunch that we became stationary for 40 minutes whilst holiday goers (one being my partner) volunteered out of the goodness of their hearts to help push the cars to safety so we could pass. This, obviously couldn’t be helped but again our kayaking and snorkelling experience was rushed and shortened. For the amount of money you pay to get to see Moreton island it was really a shame and I would rather organise the travel to and from island solo rather than through a company. We would’ve then felt like we had the opportunity to enjoy the snorkelling and kayaking experience. But again it was rushed and we barely had time at all once you counter in donning all the gear too. Lunch was very mundane too. The website specified sandwich lunch but we were given wraps. I would’ve loved to have two or more but lunch was shortened so we could get to the last two activities. By the time we left the island we were extremely hungry even once buying a few items back on ferry. The snorkelling and kayaking was amazing we just didn’t get enough time to enjoy and really take it in. We are strong swimmers and wanted to slightly venture whilst snorkelling but the facilitator would keep pulling us back to group (understandable) given it is a group experience but we lost a few opportunities to see more. We didn’t even get time to just simply relax on the beach and enjoy the view. As soon as kayaking was done we were herded back to the bus quickly. Overall we enjoyed it. But we wouldn’t do it in this manner nor recommend it to others to ensure you get the time wanted where you want and what you want to do whilst on the island.

Dear guest,
Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your recent experience on Moreton Island. We appreciate your honesty, and we'd like to address the concerns you've raised:
1. Early Morning Pickup: We understand that the early morning pickup from the Gold Coast may have been less than ideal. The commute from the Gold Coast to Brisbane can indeed take a while, and the early start was necessary to ensure we could make the most of our day on the island. In the future, we recommend staying in Brisbane if you wish to have a shorter travel time to the jetty point.
2. Traffic and Bogging: Unfortunately, traffic and bogged vehicles situations are beyond our control, and they can occur, especially during peak holiday seasons when the island receives a higher number of visitors. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
3. Lunch: We understand that the DIY wrapped lunch was not to your liking. Please note that the time constraints were a factor in the lunch experience, and we appreciate your understanding.
4. Activity Rush: We understand that some of the activities felt rushed due to the unexpected delays earlier in the day. Our tour guides strive to ensure that everyone gets a chance to participate in all planned activities, which sometimes requires us to manage time constraints.
We appreciate your feedback, as it helps us make improvements and provide better experiences for our customers. Should you decide to visit us again in the future, we recommend planning your visit outside of public and school holidays. This can lead to a less crowded experience and a more relaxed atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy the island to its fullest.
Thank you for your feedback again.

The clear kayaks were cool, food was pretty good, that’s all that’s awesome though, snorkelling was as good as it would’ve been if you had of gone without the tour, the equipment was well run down. Wet suits were ripping in places. Snorkels were one size fits all kind so can be painful in places. The guides barely spoke or gave info on things to look at. The bus to the sand dunes broke down several times and overheard it had no reverse gear makes me question the safety then one bus backed into another then the guides were ripping into each other. Not very professional. I definitely do not think it is worth the money you spend to do this tour I don’t recommend

I recently went on the 2 day Moreton island tour with Sunset Safaris which was a mix of the scenic and get wrecked day tour - and it was amazing!! Wein and Josh our tour guides were warm and welcoming and made sure we enjoyed the trip. The food was delicious and all you need after the activities planned- we did snorkeling, sand boarding, cruising around the island in 4WD, kayaking and saw whales, dolphins, sea turtles, different kind of birds and vegetations and lots of fishes. The highlight of the trip was the night kayaking, a unique experience that I highly recommend - it has a thrill of its own. We had sea turtles And fishes swimming just below the kayaks and the coral at night was too good!!!

The night kayaking is definitely the highlight of the tour! It seemed like you had seen all types of marine life on tour, how lucky! Come back to visit us again someday!

The wetsuits are to protect you from bumping up against any rough objects, such as the ship and rocks, so I think wetsuits are required all year round.

Our family is looking at doing this tour at the end of January. Will there be poisonous jellyfish at that time in the water there?

WHERE AND WHEN ARE BOX JELLYFISH FOUND IN AUSTRALIA?
They are found in the waters north of Bundaberg, Queensland, up around the coast of the Northern Territory and down to Exmouth in Western Australia. They tend to inhabit river mouths and shallow coastal waters and rarely inhabit the the outer reef sites, and the Great Barrier Reef islands such as Fitzroy Island, Green Island and Dunk Island.

I am traveling alone in April this year. I am thinking to join this trip to Moreton Island. I wonder where I leave my bags and belongings while I am snorkeling and Kayaking?

We’re planning to drive to Moreton island in a 2018 Kia Sorento AWD. Just wonder if this type of vehicle is allowed on the island.

unless your kai sirento has james bond like ability's to go underwater, i would say you can not drive to the island. ferry only .
