- unemployedj0 contributionsAn excellent day trip to Kakadu national parkIf you are in Darwin and short for time, then this one day trip is an excellent taster for Kakadu and the surrounding wilderness. It's a long day, so be prepared for this but you already know that Australia is no small country. Our tour consisted of 10 people hosted by our guide Bec. The small 20 seater coach was comfortable, air conditioned and each person had 2 seats to themselves. Along the journey there's lots of wildlife and fauna to see and our guide Bec was very knowledgeable and informative providing a very good commentary along the way and return journey. We stopped at various sites at Kakadu and enjoyed seeing beautiful landscapes as well as aboriginal art on rocks. Plenty of wildlife to be seen, crocodiles, wild buffalo, wallabies, a solitary dingo and an array of bird species. We never felt rushed during the stops at the various locations and our tour guide certainly took good care of us and was never short of providing informative information which made the day extra enjoyable. All in all a very good day out and this trip is highly recommended.Written 28 November 2024
- jasongK9609JI0 contributionsGet a guide not a driverWell, the itinerary looked excited and started off great with crocodile tour…look at them snappas!! Then Kakadu and the journey became fragmented. It turns out our guide was just a driver. He would drive us to various places and then start his guiding. After we would view something we turn and he’s gone. Turns out he was going ahead of the group to take his own pictures first. He would stand and snap at the best vantage point and we would have to queue behind him. If you could not keep up with his “speed guiding” you were out of luck. Oh , and if you are feeling bad from the heat, don’t count on this driver/guide turn to your fellow tourists. I wish the crocodile dudes could have come instead…true Aussie hosting and guiding!Written 10 November 2024
- 307kamalp0 contributionsWell organised and very enjoyableA day tour with a hike to Leliyn - Edith Falls which included a quick dip at the natural pool and then to Nitmiluk National park to see the Katherine gorge inclusive of a boat ride sounded exhaustive, but this was exactly what the Autopia tours have nicely compressed into their package to this part of the Northern Territory. Distance from Darwin was several hundred kilometres and our group comprised of a mix of young and elderly. We were picked up from the hotel around 6.30 in the morning while it was still dark and we were able to witness the sunrise along our way on the Stuart Highway heading to Adelaide River where we broke journey at the "Adelaide River Post office and store" for refreshing and picking up food items for breakfast and or lunch. This was an interesting rural café, post office and a store where we were able to get coffee and pick up some delicious Sandwiches to take for our lunch on-the-go. Our driver guide “Rick” gave us a fantastic commentary about Darwin during the second world war and the consequences of bombings and he explained many other things of tourist value in the areas we were crossing during the journey. He took us passing the World War II cemetery in Adelaide River which was supposed to be the only one in Australian soil, which appeared to be very well maintained and then to the old causeway across Adelaide River showing us the level to which this river rose during the last devastating floods which submerge a large land mass. We had another stop at Pine Creek to refresh ourselves and finally arrived at Leliyn “Jawoyn Leliyn Kiosk” where we refreshed again and began our hike, first to the Bemang lookout of Edith falls and then to the upper pool for a quick dip and thereafter proceeded to get back to the bus. Rick took care of us by joining us on the hike and always remained closer to the weaker elderly to make them feel safe and assisted. The hike was a bit strenuous in warm weather, a bit more than expected for some but with a slower pace everyone was able to complete the loop to hurry to the next destination. Edit Fall was very pretty cascading down in two tiers. Water temperature was extremely soothing for the bathers. Boat operators were ready and waiting to welcome us for the boat ride and Autopia travels have pre-booked our tickets and it was a quick transfer on a ramp to the awaiting boat to commence the tour. The Katherine gorge tour was excellent and memorable. The pre-historic rock art were marvellous. The tour was well organised and we were in safe and caring hands of the driver guide “Rick” who did an excellent job.Written 3 November 2024
- John E0 contributionsEnjoyable TourNice and comprehensive tour through the Litchfield NP and very nice spots. All in all a quite enjoyable tour, thanks to our guide Rick. Just be aware that there can be a lot of people at some spots.Written 14 October 2024
- 54chadel0 contributionsAn underwhelming experience. Good for visiting watering holes only.Fairly underwhelming tour unfortunately. Our croc tour ran 30 mins behind meaning the big boat went out first and got to see many jumping crocs whilst our small boat was only able to see 2. Because our croc tour ran behind, this then has a effect onto the rest of our Litchfield tour. I specifically picked this one as it was planned to visit 3 watering holes but our tour guide (Lloyd) decided to cut our opportunity of swimming at Florence Falls due to alleged ?rough conditions and the heat.. but that’s exactly why we wanted to go there? To cool off? So we only had a small opportunity to walk to a viewing platform to see that. I also felt many of Lloyd’s stories were unprofessional and simply not needed. He was also sick. Coughing the whole way through the trip and even told some of us at one of the stops that he shouldn’t have been working as he needed antibiotics but needed the money! Unbelievable! He also lit up a cigarette at the Termite mounds which I felt wasn’t a good look for the company, or himself, especially after complaining how sick he was. Overall, I felt this tour was way too long with too much time needed to get to each spot and Lloyd didn’t provide the experience I was expecting after reading other reviews. Go for the watering holes if anything but pack snacks and your ear phones so you can listen to music to distract yourself during the long drives.Written 7 October 2024

- Sharon B0 contributionsAn enjoyable experience. We would recommend it to others. Our tour guide Dani was very experienced and knowledgeable. She was really keen to answer any questions and helpful. - charles63460 contributionsIt's a long day but it's a good dayThis trip is long. It starts at 6:30 AM. I would have liked to have had hotel pick up. The trip ended at 9:30 PM. The bus was new and there was space for 27 people. The Driver/Guide was very good. The drive is boring. We did stop twice to buy snacks and lunch. I would wait and buy lunch at the snack shack at Edith Falls. We were able to swim at the pond at Edith Falls which was refreshing. The cruise through Katherine gorge was very good.Written 24 September 2024
- H3672VFcolinp0 contributionsAutopia 5 day camping experience Kakadu,Katherine Gorge and LitchfieldDaryl the driver/tour guide excellent, couldn’t do enough to support not so well client. His knowledge of culture and wildlife pretty good and would highlight when he didn’t know something as well as having extremely keen eyes to spot wildlife. Campsites basic but adequate, where Daryl would lead the cooking and a was a reasonable cook at that. Food plentiful, though limited choice offered initially, Daryl always able to provide an acceptable alternative eg. Non fish eater, offered ham. What was surprising was the obvious lack of maintenance to the 4 wheel drive vehicle, the 3 securing screws of the lock for the rear passenger door, were missing from the start. This meant the lock was NOT secure. Also the handle spindle kept falling out partially and completely, in either case, Daryl was unable to open the door from the outside, though it operated fine from the inside. Additionally, the initial microphone/headset was so Intermittent that you couldn’t hear much of what Daryl was saying. Fortunately at the 1st night campsite stop, Daryl was able to get another headset from another Autopia tour guide, also at the site. For me and my wife, the tour could have done with a bit more emphasis on the wildlife, but that said, it was a good tour all the same.Written 24 September 2024
- Inspire414855685010 contributionsAmazing tour guideOur tour guide Danni was exceptional. Being a member of the local community meant she gave us insights into the sites we visited above and beyond what was available to other tourists. I was left with a whole new appreciation of the skills and endurance of the indigenous peoples to survive for thousands of years in this environment. Danni made our visit a very memorable one for my husband and I. . Thankyou.Written 23 September 2024
- 5ue150 contributionsExperience Not to MissA day not to miss. Starting with the jumping crocodile tour Damo and Shano were A comedy act not to be missed, keeping us just as entertained as the jumping crocodiles. Our guide Dani happily shared her deep knowledge of land and culture with traditional and personal stories, giving us a glimpse of life in and around Kakadu. The scenery was breathtaking and the rock art gave us a glimpse into the past. A day that will be remembered for a long time.Written 23 September 2024

- 196janicec0 contributionsThe worst trip we have experienced. The places were delightful but the tour guide/driver was appalling.Katherine Gorge Cruise & Edith Falls Day Trip Escape from Darwin feedback The worst trip we have experienced. The places were delightful but the tour guide/driver was appalling. We were picked-up at 6.20am was from a site six blocks from the hotel. No confirmation received prior to the trip. No good morning or his name given as being ticked off the list/told no first toilet break as we were in a hurry/as we are boarding. The “accredited Outback driver/guide” hardly spoke a word, he spent most of his time trying to get the radio/music to play and when he did, it was poor quality and very poor choice. We asked for some explanation of the trip. There was no opportunity to purchase breakfast or lunch “Meals not included. Guests will have an opportunity to support locals and buy lunch along the way.” We were taken to servos/service stations where there was only deep-fried foods and highly processed foods. So, no food for us. At Edith Falls the driver had his shirt off, uncertain if he had been swimming and did not put it on until our next stop. Late in the afternoon he offered us two muesli bars and said “ I hope these aren’t too processed for you, as we had not eaten all day. Katerine Gorge was amazing and the Aboriginal guide Brandon was excellent.Written 17 September 2024

I just finished a 3 day/ 2 night tour of Kakadu and Litchfield National Park with Autopia Tours and it was the best tour I have done in a long time. It was really our guide Andrea that made it wonderful. She was so knowledgeable and respectful of the land and Indigenous owners of the land on which we travelled which was so enriching and invaluable. She shared detailed stories and information relating to so many things from termite mounds and the history and harm of uranium minding to the public stories connected to the beautiful rock art we viewed across the parks. She was very organised which made everything flow so well and on-time. We loved her music playlists, regular toilet and snack breaks and respectful care of the beautiful land we were travelling across.
The truck was comfortable and well air-conditioned and our tour group of 14 persons were all really lovely. The campsite had great facilities, pool and was well-stocked with essentials and a few luxuries! I would like to thank Andrea for her passion, care and commitment to really making it a great tour for all involved.

Went to Kakadu and Litchfield for three days with Jay and Bec. Outstanding. Packed loads into each day. Our guides were just lovely. Fun, professional and knowledgeable. Accommodation and grub was fine. Group members chipped in at meal times etc adding to the casual comfortable feel of the tour and helping us get to know each other. The small group of 16 was friendly and meant that it was easy to load up and keep moving. I came away with a much improved
appreciation for Indigenous culture. Highly recommended!

At the end of August my partner and I went on the three day Kakadu and Litchfield tour and we couldn’t recommend it more! Our guide Becs was an absolute gem and her local knowledge from living in Jabiru was paramount. The group of twelve was a great, small size and we all formed a great bond during the trip, it was so hard to say goodbye at the end! Highlights of the trip were Jim Jim Falls and Ubirr in Kakadu, along with Buley Rockholes in Litchfield. The camp setup was fantastic with everything we needed provided, and the communal kitchen area was a great place to eat and form new friendships. We also had a camp host who would have a warm meal ready for us from our days of adventure. The days were long and parts of walks could be considered strenuous, but it was all worth it to see hidden parts of the park. Absolutely would recommend to anyone who’s looking for an adventure or might be apprehensive about a tour as we originally were. We had an amazing time and enjoyed the company of all we did the tour with!

I was interested in seeing the Aboriginal rock art, experiencing the Australian national parks and meeting other travelers, while hiking and camping in the outback. Carlos our guide was very competent, knowledgeable, energetic and fun! Our group of 17 consisted of such interesting, diverse, helpful and friendly people-this only enhanced the whole experience. The campground was well kept and comfortable with hot showers, a refreshing swimming pool and a large mess hall/gathering place with electricity to charge our phones. It was a very fun, life enriching time and great value for the dollar.

An amazing trip through beautiful landscapes with all kinds of wildlife. Ghe acticities are well balanced between hikes, sights and cultural.
Our visit was in the dry season (october), which did mean the hikes were fairly hot but never uncomfortable. Our guide made sure everyone brought enough water and knew a few places were we could rest and cool of in the shade. Besides, dry season means that wildlife is gathered around the few places with water that are left, which means you have a bigger chance to see some of the amazing critters that live here.
The thing that made our tour however, was our guide. Leigh looked after us during the activities, camping and on the road. More important, he has a astonishing amount of knowlegde about the culture, landschape, animals and plants. Which meant we learned a lot about everything we saw. Just amazing!

What an amazing trip! We had the best three days as a family exploring the National Parks and seeing an array of wildlife. It was an absolute privilege to have Richard as our guide - incredibly knowledgeable, really friendly and so patient with the kids (8&9). They left feeling totally inspired by him and the others on our tour, what a great bunch of people! Couldn’t recommend this trip highly enough and massive bonus if Richard takes you around.

What an experience!!! We chose the safari tent option and it was great to have a little bed with sheets and pillows (although our group members who slept in the swags said it was amazing sleeping under the stars, and had a bit more air circulation). I loved how we all helped cook and clean together as it helped us get to know our fellow travellers and we really bonded with each other. Our tour guide Rachel was AMAZING!!! So chilled out and easy going and knowledgeable about the top end. She took us to some of the most amazing waterfalls you can swim under and we all had the best time!!!
Highly recommend this tour if you’re looking for a proper top end experience, and to meet other likeminded travellers.
