About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- T4401LKclaudial0 contributionsDo yourself a favour and go!The whole experience was terrific. We thoroughly enjoyed it all. Our tour guide Lyn was kind, very knowledgeable, and made our experience enjoyable and memorable. Swimming in three falls was amazing! The crocodile cruise with Rex was unforgettable. Lunch was delicious and healthy. Would do this tour again, without doubt, and highly recommend!Written 3 October 2024
- kattsays0 contributionsGreat Top End nature experienceI highly recommend this tour with Off-road Dreaming. The guide was very knowledgeable and gave us sufficient time to enjoy all the highlights, which were spectacular. From stunning swimming spots to jumping crocodiles, the tour provided a memorable NT nature experience. Comfortable bus, good group size - not too big, and a yummy fresh lunch included.Written 1 September 2024
- ColetteMcDB0 contributionsDo this tourFantastic day out swimming in 3 waterholes as well as the fabulous Jumping Croc tour. Emily was a super guide with lots of knowledge and energy. Do this tour if you have a day free in Darwin.Written 24 August 2024
- georginan5300 contributionsAmazing tour well organised and fun dayAmazing tour loved the waterfalls, termites moulds and the crocodiles being fed on Adelaide River.our tour guide Maritz hope I spelt it correctly kept us well informed and last but not least had yummy lunch at LitchfieldWritten 26 July 2024
- francispicken0 contributionsA not to miss tour that opens up nature's beauty in a real sense and you feel a wonderful part of it.What a fabulous tour. The driver Mike was an amazing source of information and provided great support throughout the tour. The activities were well balanced throughout the day and accommodations were made due to my wife's mobility issues. The swims with the waterfalls were fantastic and a good relief from the heat.Written 25 July 2024
- damienw9350 contributionsLots of swimming in impressive water holes, and an amazing jumping crocodiles tour on the Adelaide River. Great day out!Make sure you bring your swimming gear and towel and make the most of the opportunity to swim where the crocodiles don’t. The termite mounds are amazing. The jumping crocodile tour did not disappoint. There is some walking that requires comfortable shoes and so I wouldn’t recommend thongs. A great day out and pretty relaxing too.Written 23 July 2024
- kerryd2220 contributionsBeautiful sceneryVery good day tour with lovely waterfalls and swimming. Emily was our tour guide and a wealth of information. Emily obviously knows the territory, explaining about the trees and plants and how they change during the wet season to the dry seasons. How the bush protects itself and thrives. Woollie bark trees with there fire retardant bark and how the flowering plants survive. Fantastic waterfalls to swim at and lovely Monsoon forests. Enjoyable day, highly recommend especially if your lucky enough to have Emily as the tour guide.Written 30 June 2024
- matthewmorris1040 contributionsA great day out in Litchfield NPI had a great day out with Yvonne, who was a chatty, knowledgable and friendly guide. The day was well paced and we had a good period of time at each stop. The small group was also very enjoyable and the smaller bus enabled us to visit places unavailable to larger vehicles. I was very disappointed that the Crocodile Cruise was cancelled. However, this wasn’t Offroad Dreaming’s fault and they were very good about it and offered an alternative trip.Written 18 June 2024
- Jet7468230 contributionsFun and engaging tour...low stress.Just as professional and knowledgable as the kakadu tour. The only let down, the croc cruise operator cancelled without notifying the tour operator. So lost that opportunity. But the swimming holes made up for it. As I said in another post, ditch the cattle car operators in favor of these folks. More personal and down to business...your fun.Written 17 June 2024

Nifty knew when to tell us stories, point out interesting flora and fauna, or let us soak up the scenery in silence. He knew all the right roads, got us to where we needed to be on time and kept us well stocked up on cool water. He happily changed our itinerary when we asked for it so we could e see some awesome whip cracking. Thanks for an amazing time Nifty, you and the coach were awesome!Written 8 June 2024

Do your research. We toured with Off-Road Dreaming on their Litchfield National park Day tour and were totally impressed so we booked the Kakadu with them also. The itinerary I read was for the Dry Season and unfortunately this had been prematurely changed to the Wet Season itinerary ( October to May). We went to Nourlangi Rock Art site instead of Ubirr and our cruise was on the Yellow Water Billabong instead of the Guluyambi Cultural Cruise. We had chosen this tour also based on the Dry Season tour itinerary. Missed out on 'stepping on to Arnhem Land' and a cultural experience here. Positives...Mike our tour guide and driver was pleasant, informative and helpful. The picnic lunch was fresh, healthy chicken and salad and more than enough for all. Snacks and cold water provided also for the day. Negatives... about 8 out of the 12 hours spent driving. Changed itinerary without notice, limited activities. Do your research to make sure the day tour you pick suits your needs.

Thankyou for touring with us and your review.
Typically we start the Season on 1st March, with our Nourlangie and Yellow waters Itinerary, in Kakadu's Central Region, due to Wet Season rains making the East Alligator and Arnhem Land Region inaccessible.
This runs until about the end of April, when we switch to our Ubirr and Guluyambi itinerary, which usually operates until early October.
At some point in October we usually switch back to Nourlangie and Yellow Waters again.
(When the rains start, exactly when this will be, is unpredictable and different every year.)
We offer selected departures in November and then we close the public tours December, Jan and Feb every year, due to consistent heavy rains that create road closures and flooding.
All of our itineraries may change at the last minute due to weather and cultural reasons.
Sometimes we have less than 24 hours notice ourselves, so it is not possible to commit to any itinerary fully in advance.
Road and location closures can happen at any time of the year, not necessarily following exactly a Wet/ Dry Season calendar and in response to cultural events.
We are a small flexible team here at Offroad Dreaming and can work together with National Parks to find alternative, accessible areas.
Where possible we will always provide a similar experience in a different region, whilst not the same, can offer you views and activities covering the same interests.
You are welcome to call with any enquiries on 0889312021 or email bookings@offroaddreaming.com.au for the latest updates.
Regards,
Yvonne

Deb was such an amazing tour guide, knowledgeable and friendly answering all questions. It was a truly amazing experience for us and the children (5 and 7). The rock art and scenary was beautiful and the guides on alligator river amazing and so great to learn more about this beautiful country. Small tour size made a difference, I would highly recommend for anyone travelling with kids (but have your own additional snacks) and be prepared for a long bus ride! Thanks Deb, just awesome.

A wonderful day spent with Offroad Dreaming and our guide Nev. The passion for this part of the Australia, the knowledge of the land and people was palpable. We loved that the tour is limited to a small group. Nev very mindful of people’s capabilities, giving alternative walking trails & ensuring everyone was comfortable. Lunch was fresh and delicious, snacks offered throughout the day. My 16yo summed it up perfectly she was so glad we did the tour as we certainly wouldn’t have learnt so much about Kakadu by doing it by ourselves.

We started off with pickup from our hotel at 5.45. And headed on out to Kakadu. Couldn’t fault this tour at all. Plenty of snacks along the way and a yummy lunch all included. Plenty of places to stop for a toilet break for those worried about being in the middle of nowhere which you really are. Rock art was amazing our tour guide was full of information he knew his stuff. The walks are easy just made a little harder by the heat. Nice relaxing cruise along The Yellow River all made for a great day. Arrived back at the hotel after 7pm

Excellent tour, very unique experience. Tour guide had excellent knowledge and there were lots of learn.
I would recommend the company consider blocking out the two seats which have a raised floor due to the wheel of the bus, for a 5+ hour bus trip, this is really uncomfortable for a grown adult.

Don't be daunted by the reviews about the drive! The driver, in particular, our driver Deb "Dundee" are an incredible wealth of knowledge. We were given so much history and knowledge on our drive in, that the drive is needed to learn as much as we can. There is a fantastic stop on the way out with some morning tea and then we arrived at the dry season location Ubirr. WOW what an experience, again made all the more immersive with the knowledge only a guide can bring. This would not have been the experience it was for us without Deb. A wonderfully refreshing and healthy lunch then onto the river for a cruise with locals. Our boat captain was Tyrone and what a treasure he is. Witty, funny and engaging and we are blessed to have been welcomed to his country. SO many crocodiles and the river guides are so willing to share knowledge and answer questions. I will never forget this tour and the experience and highly recommend this company for any tours they may offer. Cheers guys Loretta and Danny xxx

Deb our tour guide was a wealth of knowledge, provided us with a lovely lunch, was very approachable if you had questions and went above and beyond to retrieve a lost item of mine, which I am truly grateful for. A big shout out to the employees of the Corroboree Tavern for the return of this item and a great place for a rest break. Ubirr rock art and the lookout over the floodplains was a truly amazing experience. I felt very privileged to step into Arnhem land even if only briefly and the river cruise was a relaxing and informative insight into the aboriginal culture of this area. The only downsides to this tour is the amount of travel time on bus seats, which were hard to get comfortable in. We were also lucky that a few seats were vacant on the bus, so we could store our backpacks, for those that couldn't it would be a tight squeeze.

This was a fantastic trip that met all expectations and more. Our guides, Norm and Brooke, were very informative, friendly, funny, and fun! We loved the emphasis on the aboriginal culture and enjoying the wildlife without impacting it (no feeding!). The pace was relaxed despite an ambitious agenda. The bus and group size was very comfortable. Lunch was delicious and had something for everyone. The price was also very affordable considering it included seeing both the traditional cave art AND a lovely boat cruise led by an aboriginal guide with plenty of crocs, birds, and even a spear-throwing demonstration! No single use plastic was used and water provided by refilling bottles. It's clear that the owners and guides put a lot of thought into making this the best Kakadu experience possible while truly honoring the indigenous people. We had a wonderful time. I just can't recommend this tour enough!

The tour guide Di was fantastic, and as she has a personal relationship with many different Aboriginals she was able to give our group real information which i found very interesting. I like that the group was small (less than 25 people) as it was more personalized. Ubirr was absolutely incredible, mind you there is a fair bit of rocks to climb so if you are not so fit then this may be challenging for you. I'm 31, relatively fit, and climbed up wearing thongs/flip flops and found it to be okay.

Is this tour suitable for 4yr olds?
Written 14 June 2021
It's a very long day and many hours spent in a bus. A child could sleep in the bus I suppose if they were tired. Depending on the child, I'd suggest some 4yr olds could manage and others it would be hopeless!

Hi - I've seen that Gunlom Falls is currently closed. It doesn't look like this tour goes there, but I just wanted to confirm/check if that was a part of this tour?
Written 10 May 2021
Some parts of Kakadu were closed because of the rain they had had . I’m not sure if the falls were on the itinerary but a phone call may answer your question,we did love our tour

I believe any hotel in Darwin city. They will confirm when you book. I recall we picked up and dropped off to at least half s dozen around town

My Family and I are only there for 1 day and we actually fly to Bali at 10:50pm that night. Do u think we would have time to do one of these tours? And will the tour company drop us off at the airport?
Written 19 October 2019
Yes you would have plenty of time to do these trips, they drop you back approx. 6 or 6.30pm and I am sure they would drop you at the airport, we dropped people at Casuarina which is further. It would be a wonderful way to get a taste of Kakadu. Luggage could be an issue though as not sure how much room they would have available for you on the bus. Perhaps it could be left somewhere and collected later. Enjoy your stop over and LOVE KAKADU!
Written 22 October 2019
Unfortunately this is not an option for this tour, you will be viewing a lot of crocodiles, fauna and flora though. This is not a swimming tour and to be honest it is far better than any swimming in the region. I guess you don't need to swim in this environment to enjoy its absolutely amazing effects. (top of Gunlom is the absolute best spot for a swim if you can make the trip up the steep incline you get to swim and enjoy the spectacular view)
