Amazing experience - magnificent sunrise and challenging but rewarding hike!
My husband and I booked the "Kata Tjuta Sunrise and Valley of the Winds Half-Day Trip" through Viator. At 4:40 am, the tour bus picked us up from our hotel - Sails in the Desert. We headed to a viewing platform where we caught the most magnificent sunrise as it lights up the mountain sides of Kata Tjuta. The tour had coffee, morning biscuits, fresh fruits and fruit cups. I was so nice to eat under that beautiful sky. After breakfast, we headed on our amazing 3 hrs / 5.4 km hike at Kata Tjuta National Park. This hike to the Karingana lookout is a Grade 4 - Difficult level hike. It was a challenging mainly at the end of the hike; I was so proud of myself for completing it since I'm 55 and not exactly super fit. Our tour guide (from Italy ... sorry, I don't remember her name) was fantastic. She made sure that everyone got through the tough parts of the trail and gave us a number of breaks to rest and enjoy the landscape. TIPS: - Be respectful of others on the viewing platform ... give everyone a chance to take pictures. - Be respectful at Kata Tjuta ... let's all enjoy the peace and quiet, and beauty of the land.

A brilliant introduction to Uluru with our excellent guide Jessica who was extremely knowledgeable and sensitive to indigenous people . Spectacular art installation, only surpassed by the beauty of Uluru itself !

Uluru sunrise and Kata Tjuta half day tour - with great guides.
The tour was great and worked very well to see Uluru and Kata Tjuta in a half day and experience the two brilliant places. Good sunrise position and a wondrous, absorbing gorge walk. Specifically the two tour guides Glen and driver Michael were superb. Interesting, funny, knowledgeable, inclusive and good company. They provided a poignant and fascinating commentary to the tour.

A magical tour with the field of lights and sunrise over Uluru.
This tour was great. Our guide Catherine and driver Alan took us to the field of lights and allowed us to wander around at our Leisure before we had a morning cuppa while watching Uluru being light up by the morning sunrise. It was spectacular. Catherine had an abundance of knowledge and always answered our questions. The field of lights are magical

          Awesome activity!
Wonderful experience! Ayers Rock area is a must see. The area is so full of beauty and culture. Our tour with Nick was educational and spectacular from start to finish! We did the bbq option as well, and the meal was a great experience, out in the shadow of the rock. The night sky, with the stargazing, was a treat. Would definitely visit again!

          Worth the trip
The photos don't do it justice, close to, it's stunning. The history and stories are well worth hearing so go with a guide. We used Emu, was good.

You can't miss to see Uluru Ayers rock
We went with Emu run experience! They are very good and very professional!! Our gide YAD was amazing. We were in a small group and he came with a small van! Lots of stories, lots of dates about the Rock and Rock formation and about the Aboriginals. Even like a chef and the host he was excellent! We couldn't get better guide!

          Good views, poor guide
The experience of seeing the magnificent rick was excellent, slightly dampened by a cloudy morning, but still very worthwhile. When we got to Kata Tjuṯa, the sun showed up for a while and this was impressive. So why 3 stars you may ask ? The tour guide I think her name was Nerja or similar?? (She was about 60 with blond hair ) was very rude, sarcastic and little interest in her guests, she was regularly throwing her eyes up to heaven, but managed to be civil when using the coach PA system. Whilst at Kata Tjuṯa , she gave a worthwhile safety briefing . Then proceeded to march off at a fast pace leaving all her guests behind , we kept up with her as were keen walkers, but others where 200-300 metres behind her on rough terrain; not once did she look back to check on their welfare . When at the viewing platform, she stared into space with her back to all her guests . Maybe having a bad day, but it wasn’t a good representative for the company. On the other hand the driver Riley was very amicable, taking time to talk to guests and answer questions

          Worth doing.
The sun did not set over the Kata Tjuta outcrop as shown in the booking photo. Access to the actual rock faces was not possible because there was a fenced in area. It was still a pleasant trip with decent hors d’oeuvres and wine. The site is used by several tour groups.

Long Day if You Don’t Do the Long Walk
This tour was well organized and the logistics were handled well. Our guides were Lincoln and Chloe and they were wonderful. Very knowledgeable and engaging. It was a super long day with a pick up for us at 4:15am and a return back around 5:00pm. In our opinion this trip would only be worth it if you are capable of doing the 3 hour rim walk. We were warned that the walk starts with a very steep climb of more than 500 steps and then continues with a lot of up and down. The heat is intense in the high 30’s. While the surrounding area is beautiful, we are not sure it warrants six hours of driving if you don’t see the upper canyon area. We started on the rim walk but after doing the first 200 steps felt it would be too challenging to continue. Chloe was very understanding as we went back down to join the creek walk. Lincoln provided a very informative walk on the ground of the canyon but it was obviously not as exciting. The tour advertised the opportunity to enjoy the amenities of a resort but the property was more like a lodge and there were some obnoxious students in the pool. We swam for a bit anyway and then had a nice lunch while waiting for the return back. We didn’t find the stops on the return to be very interesting and felt they were unnecessary at that point. Lincoln was an excellent driver and made us feel safe the entire time on a difficult and long journey. In our opinion if you don’t have the ability to do an extremely difficult hike (graded as a 5) and the definite highlight, then perhaps give it a pass.

          Absolute nonsense tour
I didn't understand the organization of this itinerary at all. I travel for work and have been on hundreds of tours, and this is in my bottom three. HOW IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE: Pick up guests. Drive to an Uluru viewing platform. Provide hot drink. Guests walk to viewing platform to see Uluru at sunrise. HOW IT WAS: Guests were picked up. We drove to an Uluru viewing platform, where a station for hot drinks (in satchel form) was set up. There was no line, it was an absolute free for all with lots of shoving. Time was wasted just getting the three things you needed: cup, powder/teabag, hot water, none of which had lines. After wasting a bunch of time playing an impromptu round of the Hunger Games, you then walked to the viewing platform, cup in hand, because there were no trash cans. You're also joining 5 other buses full of people, mind you, so the viewing platform is another free for all as you're wrestling for the best spot (with one hand, because remember you're still holding on to your cup). Taking photos was a nightmare. They told us to be back at the bus at 6:05, which is baffling! Sunrise was at 5:54, but the walk back takes 10-15 minutes. Essentially, we were told to be at the bus as the sun was rising, which defeats the purpose of watching the sun rise over Uluru. Even more baffling because we spent 15 minutes sitting in the bus afterwards? Doing nothing?? Like we could have spent more time at the viewing platform? Absolute nonsense. I suspect the tour guide has dealt with late guests before so she told everyone to be back 15 minutes early. Too bad it meant missing the actual sunrise, but she simply didn't care, lol. She just wanted to go home. There was no info provided about Uluru at all. When we pulled up to the viewing platform, all we got was "oh look, there are desert trees..." which yeah, we're in a desert. Tell us more about Uluru! The drive to Kata Tjutu was full of tree facts lol, she just pointed out different kinds of trees and read from a script. I couldn't tell if it was the tour guide's first day or 20th year in the business. Either she didn't know what she was doing or she has simply done it so often, she didn't care anymore. Kata Tjutu itself was nice, we went up and down and that was it, lol. If you're decently fit - like if you could get through a gym class in high school - you'll be fine. There's a bit of an incline but the challenge is the uneven ground caused by a conglomerate of rocks. It's a 20-minute walk up, so very doable. Even this part of the tour you could just see on your own if you rent a car. This tour felt like spending money on things I could do on my own, but like... paying to make it unenjoyable. Skip it if you can.

          Not to be missed!
Watching the sun rise over Uluru is a very special & magical experience enhanced by the extraordinary Field of Light installation by British creator Bruce Munro. Excellent guide (Chloe?) and a smaller group. Preferable experience to the Sunset tour - if you only do one then this is it.

          Sunrise experience was better
Iconic view of Uluru at sunset - however, too many people, an irritating driver/tour guide (limited knowledge, thought he was a comedy act). Fizz & nibbles were OK, BBQ cancelled. Better option is the Sunrise & Field of Light.

          Loved it.
What an amazing experience this was. We were driven to an area plied with drinks and snacks to watch the breathtaking sunset from a great viewpoint. It was not overly crowded so you could get decent uninterrupted views and take some great photos. We were then driven to an area so close to the rock for a bbq cooked to your liking with plenty of choice after which we were treated to a star gazing talk. Absolutely worth every penny. The staff were so amazing and made sure you had everything you needed. One of the highlights of our Australian trip.

A large bus picked us up at the resort. Write drove around Uluru and were given commentary on the sacred sites we passed. It was very hot, so I was happy to be in an air conditioned bus for the ride around the rock. We stopped at the cultural center. There was interesting history written within wall art , many photos, and a short movie about the local peoples. There was a gift shop and clean toilets. There was a short walk to a watering hole containing native artwork. Our guide Mitch did a great job telling us about the area and keeping people organized and together. We were taken to a viewing area for the sunset. There was plenty of champagne and light snacks to enjoy while we waited for the sunset. On our visit, there was a huge cloud obstructing the sun, so we didn’t get the colors we were expecting. We did get some amazing lightning in the opposite direction. You can never predict nature! It was great that Mitch kept reminding everyone to keep drinking their water. There was plenty of cold water on the bus and we were able to refill our water bottles at each stop. We were offered folding stools to sit on while waiting for the sunset, but they were too low for this senior citizen. We walked over to an area with benches and picnic tables instead. I could see where this area could get very crowded, but on our night we were okay, and there wasn’t a great view anyway.

Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re happy to hear you enjoyed the tour and the insights Mitch provided. It’s great that you were comfortable in the air-conditioned bus and stayed hydrated throughout the day as it is very important specially in a hot day in Uluru. We appreciate your feedback about the stools and will keep that in mind for future tours. Even though the sunset wasn’t as expected, we're glad you were able to enjoy the lightning, nature can certainly surprise us! We hope you had a memorable experience overall and thank you again for your thoughtful review!

We took the Kata Tjuta sunset BBQ Dinner tour with AAT Kings Tours from Uluru. They picked us up & returned us to the resort after the tour.
We were taken to sacred sites around Uluru and then onto the viewing platforms to watch sunset. From there we were taken to a private spot where table and chairs were set up with Uluru close by as the backdrop. A lovely BBQ dinner was served including kangaroo steaks, grilled chicken and bbq prawns along with freshly prepared salads. Drinks wrre serves followed by a true Aussie dessert. This was followed by an intetesting star search. On the way back to the resort the fun loving guides encouraged a sing-along which everyone enjoyed. A great tour all round.

Our bus driver and guides Dax and Linda were awesome very knowledgeable and fun to tour with. Negative well description on AAT kings site says visiting caves well we visited one cave and putting sacred sites in tour name is bit deceiving since u don’t visit any you just drive thru area on road that’s sacred supposedly. The sunset viewing was very crowded but u can walk away from the crowds too a quiet bit. We did the bbq addition food was great and plenty of drinks offered . Unfortunately weather didn’t cooperate and sky was cloudy so no stars so we had blue laser demonstration and talking about light years and stars to use as navigation but unlike in description in AAT no aboriginal stories about stars.

Even if you don't speak English at all, you can still take a Japanese tour! (Even if you can speak a little English because there are so many proper nouns, it may be difficult to hear them on the English tour) We also heard many geological and cultural stories that can only be heard locally. Uluru in the picture and Uluru in the field are two different things. I think it would be best if we went on two sunset tours (the content is completely different).

Very basic experience, the Bus just drop off at Uluru, some biscuits and Cheese and waiting for the Sunset. Anyone could get a hop in hop off bus to get there. Too expensive for 99 AUD per person + 38AUD for the park fee.

Hi Kim, Thank you for your feedback. The National Park fee is set by the government, and we don’t have control over its pricing. The fee helps support the conservation of Uluru and the surrounding areas. Our experience is designed to offer a simple and comfortable way to enjoy the sunset, but we understand that it may not have been the type of adventure you were expecting. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Nice tour, very organised. The guide explained the site and told us some stories about the aborigenal population.
Pick up in hotel, arrived to enjoy the view and take some nice pics.
The buffet was cool, with some snacks and wine.
        Wonderful and relaxed experience.

Bus arrived at our pick up point on time and it didn’t take long to get us all on the bus.. the driver was friendly and provided a great commentary along the way.. when we got off the bus, the view of Uluru was breathtaking and magical. We had a perfect sunset. We could choose from a selection of beverages and the food was delicious and plenty of it! We didn’t end up having dinner because we were full enough. Seamless operation and we thoroughly enjoyed our tour

This was great, we were picked up from the resort and taken by bus to the viewing area. There were some snacks and drinks provided and we watched uluru as the sum went down. Then on the bus back to the resort. The guides were friendly, helpful and always ready to answer any questions. Strongly recommended.

We did the Sunset Tour from Ayers Rock Resort. The driver was very friendly and informative. But when we arrived at the viewing area it was flies everywhere.

We know that it is fly season and you have to wear a fly net but this tour should never have been offered at this time of year.

Flies were in the drinks and crawling all over the food. Don't waste your money.

Hi there, Thank you for your review. Although a little disappointing to read your comments, we appreciate all feedback. This year there has been an unprecedented amount of flies, more than locals have seen in years. We do hope that despite the flies you still managed to enjoy the Sunset over Uluru & visiting the Red Centre. We hope to see you on AAT Kings tours in the future!

*Likely to sell out: Based on Viator’s booking data and information from the provider from the past 30 days, it seems likely this experience will sell out through Viator, a Tripadvisor company.
