What to expect
  • This leisurely day of wining and dining in the country begins with a scenic drive from Sydney Harbour to the Southern Highlands, just 90 minutes outside the city. On arrival at Centennial Vineyards it’s back to school with a Pinot Masterclass showcasing the premier grape variety of this cool-climate region. Hosted by a resident Centennial Vineyards oenophile learn about the various Pinot mutations used to make their sparklings, whites, rosés and reds while tasting flights of estate-grown wines accompanied by matching morsels. Continuing the focus on local produce, experience fine dining Southern Highlands style at chef-hatted restaurant eschalot. Owner and head chef Matty Roberts leads you through the garden where he picks the freshest of fresh ingredients to prepare the three course lunch you are about to savour. Complementing Matty’s skill in the kitchen, owner and maître d’ Cass Wallace selects a local wine to match each course. After lunch enjoy a wander around the charming Georgian village of Berrima. Browse the quaint shops along the leafy main street – look out for tea, chocolate, locally-made preserves and arts and crafts – and admire the colonial sandstone buildings.

Delicious food and wine in an beautiful setting
Jul. 2020 • Friends
Amazing experience at the wineyard. The setting is perfect for an excellent wine tasting with explanations. I learned so much and enjoyed a delicious lunch afterwards. Plus our guide was good fun and very knowledgeable. I couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended!

A must do experience!
Jul. 2020
I did the tour with a group of friends and we were all commenting what a fantastic surprise we had with the whole experience! Both, the winery and the restaurant had an amazing atmosphere and the products were superv. The wine masterclass was really fun and catered to all palate and previous knowledge. We enjoyed it so much we ended up buying heaps of wine! We also had time to explore a town called Berrima which offered the perfect end to a fantastic tour: a little place with lots of local shops and cafes. Special call out to the guide, Steve, which made every minute a wonderful experience, thanks!

Hi Laura, Great to hear that you and your friends through the tour was even better than you were expecting! I wish I could take the credit but with the wonderful wine and food of the Southern Highlands, as well as Berrima being such a delightful town to wander, it's really hard to go wrong. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts. I hope you can make it down to the Highlands again soon. Cheers, Steve

Great day Out with outstanding wines and food!
Jul. 2020 • Friends
I went on this tour with a bunch of friend, and what a surprise for us all this day was!
I was not aware of the beauty of the little town of Berrima, and the Wine Masterclass in Centenial was quite a highlight on my “i wanna know my wines” experiences!
Something that I was not expecting was that cheeseplate... Would you go to a winery to buy locally produce olive oil and dukkah?
WHY NOT!
And the restaurant was one of the best culinary experiences in Australia... who said Aussies didn’t know how to enjoy their food!?

A must do tour for a truly unique and different day out and conveniently close to Sydney!

Thanx Steve!

Hey Oscar, It's wonderful to know you and your friends had such a "great day out"! You were a lot of fun to show around and it was satisfying to see how much you all appreciated the wine and food. The Southern Highlands really has so much to offer on that front and I'm grateful that you took the time to share your experience so enthusiastically. Having grown up in the area I'm a bit biased, so having someone visit the area for the first time and be so excited encourages me to introduce even more people to the Highlands. I hope to see you and your friends (and friends of friends?) on another day out in the Southern Highlands soon. Cheers, Steve

Best wine tour!
Jul. 2020
Steve was fantastic! We had the best wine tour ever! Steve was professional, knowledgeable, caring and detail-orientated. During our tour, we not only tasted some of the most exquisite wines and food the region has to offer, but learned from people working hard behind the scene.

Sophie! Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on the tour. And thanks for bringing so much fun to the day! It was truly a delight, and thoroughly entertaining, having you along. I had to agree with Jason when he said, "I haven't laughed so much in a long time". Enjoy the rest of your time in Australia. Cheers, Steve

Such a great day out in the Southern Highlands!
Nov. 2019 • Friends
This tour really speaks local and the Southern Highlands are just beautiful. The wineries we visited were outstanding. We knew we were in for a treat from the moment we set foot in the first one. The food was superb, from the cold platter to the 2 course lunch, everything was locally produced. We even had time to go for a stroll in Berrima and I managed to buy some delicious tea. Steve is really knowledgeable and we learnt a lot about Pinots. I loved every minute and I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!

Hi Ana, Thanks so much for recommending the tour so highly! The Highlands really does have so much to offer in terms of regional produce. And as an up and coming wine region I'm excited to be able to show visitors around and introduce them to winemakers and chefs that are making it all happen. The credit must really go to them. We look forward to seeing you again when you need to stock up on tea. And maybe some Pinot. :-) Cheers, Steve

Thanks so much Tara for taking the time to share your experience with other potential travellers. Although the tour has a food and wine focus I'm so happy that you enjoyed the scenic beauty of the Southern Highlands too. Having grown up in the area I sometimes think I might be a bit biased! And what a bonus it was to see so many of our colourful parrots around the winery and even a mob of wild kangaroos. I hope you get to make it back again some day. Be sure to invite along a few friends if you do :-) Cheers, Steve

A Taste of the Southern Highlands in Style
Oct. 2019
We have been on three trips with Steve and his group, and each time we are blown away by their knowledge, personality, and presentation. The tours are well-thought out, with easy pick up and drop off right downtown, and are perfect for a day out of the city. On the trips, we never feel rushed, and we get a chance to fully enjoy each stop along the way. This latest trip was no exception. Taste of the Highlands was beyond delicious for all of our senses. The beauty of the Southern Highlands, the absolutely divine food and wine, and all the fascinating history and local stories Steve shared along the way. In addition, we got to meet and talk with the local winemakers and chefs whose passion for their craft was evident in all they did. We highly recommend Taste of the Highlands to anyone looking to enjoy a fantastic meal, to taste and learn about the local wines, and to see the Southern Highlands in style.

Hey Tara and Mark. It was my great pleasure to host you both once again and so happy that you enjoyed the new tour so much. As you now know, Southern Highlands food and wine speaks for itself - I don't need to talk it up! Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience and to highly recommend Taste of the Highlands to other travellers. I look forward to you joining us again on your next trip to Sydney. Cheers, Steve
