    Good, not great
The tour covered most of the theater complex. As it is always in operation, disappointed not to see any behind the scenes places. I don’t think the tour is a Sydney ‘must’. A better option might be to attend one of the nightly shows.

    Amazing feeling walking the steps
Bring your money if you want to eat in their restaurant- but it’s so worth the experience and taste!!! Just do it…you can’t take it with you! Place brought tears to my eyes walking around it. So breathtaking to just be present in the face of such an iconic building. A definite must see in the day AND evening!!

Don't waste your money on this tour
We paid $90 Aus. for 2 tickets to what was supposed to be a tour of the Opera House. We never saw the opera venue, and instead participated in a seance. We were told that we needed to "keep our voices down" inside the building because there were "elder" spirits present. I asked the guide how she knew the "elders" were there and how they had conveyed that "we" needed to "keep our voices down". She stated that "it was their land" - surprising that someone decided to build an opera house on it in that case and that same has been there since the late 1950s when construction began. (Our guide did not explain how/why the "elders" tolerate the performance of very loud Wagner and other boisterous operas and symphonic works at the Sydney Opera House, nor how that was NOT objectionable to those elders/spirits for whom we needed to lower our voices. Evidently, the managers of Sydney Opera House are of the view that the elders/spirits enjoy Wagner, Verdi, and all the other symphonic works they choose to program, and do not consider it to be too loud or inappropriate.) We were shown a video about Aboriginal music, etc. and then another video that tracked the ancient history of aboriginal land use in that location, followed by information about the design and construction of the building. We then attended at the concert hall, and received explanations as to what a pit orchestra is, etc. We were not taken to the opera theatre (despite the tour being a tour of the Opera House) because it was being used. It would be nice if the paying members of the public were accorded the same respect as the "spirits" whose needs and preferences about which the staff seem to be so knowledgeable and concerned.

    Don't miss this tour!
Wow, the opera house is truly amazing and this walking tour gets you everywhere. Both exterior and interior are fascinating. It's almost like a modern Gothic cathedral. This tour allows you to appreciate the architectural engineering to create this unique statement.

    A sail through time.
A very entertaining and informative tour covering the history of the Opera House from the choice of site to building techniques and everything else up to the present day. Our knowledgeable guide kept us engaged and entertained throughout the tour which I would highly recommend to anyone curious about our beloved Aussie Icon.

A must see tour when visiting Sydney
The tour information was very interesting. Full of valuable information about the construction of the building. We saw many parts of the interior and were permitted to go inside the different venues. Quite impressive. The tour guide was quite knowledgeable, but a bit militant.

i really enjoyed seeing this iconic architecture that so represents Australia. It would have been helpful each time we were in one of the music halls if our guide had told us ahead of time what to look for since we needed to be quiet inside. She mentioned wht to look for once but not both times so it would be helpful to remember to tell us to look for certain things ahead of time not afterwards. Otherwise an excellent tour.

    Breathtaking
We really enjoyed our walking tour of Syndey Opera House. We each had a headset so it was easy to hear. They limit the number of people so you weren't lost in a crowd. We were able to see several of the theaters and get a good look at the interior and exterior aspects of this beautiful building. It was well worth the money

Nice to see inside such an iconic building
An hours tour of the Sydney Opera House. We booked online that morning and found ourselves in a group of about 30 people. We had headsets so we could hear the guide clearly no matter where we were standing in the group. We got to see people practising on stage, too.

    Sydney Opera House Tour
The Sydney Opera House walking tour was amazing. Our guide, Nick, had a very complete knowledge of the building and shared many interesting stories too. We all wore headphones so we heard every word he said without his having to raise his voice. We learned all about the original architect, the politics around it's creation and all the special materials, changes, modifications and thoughts that went into it. It truly was a fantastic experience and I would recommend it to everyone.

Excellent and worthwhile tour around the inside the Opera House
Excellent and worthwhile tour around the inside the Opera House Fascinating and quick enough to be interesting while in depth enough to find new information out. You get to see parts that you wouldn't otherwise. Well worthwhile.

I thought I had already reviewed this, so apologies if it's a duplicate. But really, what a great experience! We were supposed to have a behind the scenes tour including breakfast, but it was still cancelled as a post-covid thing so our travel agent rescheduled us with this. The guide was excellent and we saw a lot - all three performance halls, which he said was unusual. The building is exquisite, and the history of its development and building is fascinating, with lots of politics involved. A must-see!

Sydney Opera House - an opera house in the style of modern expressionism, located at Cape Bennelong Point in Sydney. The opera was built in the years 1959-1973, it was made of steel, concrete and glass. The opening took place on October 20, 1973 - Queen Elizabeth II came to the ceremony on this occasion.

Great building but is more beautiful from outside than inside..
you can go inside to see what is there, but to see ore you need special tour. Around many restaurants, shops for tourist and great view to Harbour Bridge.

Hour long tour. Full group of 30. Given individual headsets to hear guide. After a few technical issues for the entire group. They worked well. Walked inside & outside of OH. Inside Bennelong Restaurant, North Foyer ((photos permitted). Highlight of Tour was sitting in newly renovated Concert Hall which is beautiful (no photos permitted). Guide was good but info was disappointing. Tour was highly recommended by a friend s who did it recently but they clearly had the guide with more technical info. Worth doing just for seeing the Concert Hall alone. Would highly recommend to first time visitors to Sydney. For locals who have been inside the Opera House for shows, your experience will depend on the quality of the guide.

Hi Sydneysunset, Thank you for taking the time to stop by and leave us your review of your recent visit. We're thrilled that you were able to take in the surroundings of our newly renovated Concert Hall however disappointed to hear that you found the lack of information to be disappointing. All of our tour guides undertake two weeks of intensive training on all things Opera House and we're saddened to hear that on this occasion we missed the mark. We do hope that you can join us again soon for another experience. Kind reagrds, Team SOH

We loved the architectural tour and recommend it. Jeanette, our guide, was awesome and shared wonderful stories about the history of the Opera House in addition to info about its structure. We learned about the development of the design, the beams, the tiles, the roof, the acoustics, how it’s built without visible support beams, and more. The headsets provided worked great so we could hear well. The tour went at a good pace, not too fast nor too slow. Loved it!

This is an unbelievable architectural feat that was made so long ago but it still striking. Whether viewed from the boats or on land there is so much to look at and admire. The sound acoustics are phenomenal and it’s interiors are so beautifully crafted.

The building is an engineering and architectural marvel and Peter was the ideal person to lead us around it. His knowledge, based on his own background in architecture and his personal contact with some of the important people involved in the design and construction process, gives him an almost unique perspective on the personalities, design philosophy, and history that lie behind the creation of this iconic building.
If you're visiting Sydney, this is a "must do".

The tour includes both the outside and interior, from both an architectural and engineering focus. Some of the information is technical, for those who understand building construction. The views and close-ups of the concrete and tilework are excellent. Visits to the restaurant and main concert hall were included.

Dear peterlJ3128TZ, Thank you for your kind review. It sounds like you did our specialized Architecture tour, we are so glad that you enjoyed your tour of our iconic landmark. And that you enjoyed getting up close and personal with the concrete and tilework. As your guide may have mentioned Utzon wanted the shells to contrast with the deep blue of Sydney Harbour and the clear blue of the Australian sky. The tiles needed to be gloss but not be so mirror-like to cause glare. Three years of work by Höganäs of Sweden produced the effect Utzon wanted in what became known as the 'Sydney Tile', 120mm square, made from clay with a small percentage of crushed stone, triple-glazed and self-cleaning, there are a total of 1,056,006 tiles on the Sydney Opera House shells. We hope to welcome you back soon! Kind regards, Team SOH

The building itself everyone recognises - a remarkable piece of architecture. The idea of the tour using headsets so the volume can be kept to a minimum is a great idea and didn't detract from the tour. Nick was our tour guide and he was knowledgeable and enthusiastic without being over the top. We got to hear a schools orchestra rehearsing in the main auditorium and they sounded amazing and the sound of the place was beautiful. Would love to see a concert in here one day as it must be amazing. Well worth the price.

If you have any interest in architecture and engineering this experience is unmissable. The Opera House is already a beautiful structure on the harbour, and the tour just shows the amazing challenge and ingenuity involved in putting it together. The tour guide Peter is himself an architect and his intimate knowledge and love of the project is absolutely amazing.
