About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Bbpeg0 contributionsNot a happy experienceSeriously disappointed with the zoo. Signposting was awful and no staff to be seen. The animals weren’t easy to view, not because they were resting out of view, but because the viewing areas were badly located. I felt the animals weren’t well kept, generally, some areas way too small. Not a happy experience for me, goodness knows how happy the animals are.Written 16 January 2025
- annagF9728WW0 contributionsSad and depressingMy visit to Wildlife Sydney was one of the most disappointing and upsetting experiences I have ever had in a place that is supposed to prioritize animal welfare. It is heartbreaking to see the state of the facilities and, even worse, the condition of the animals housed there. The "cells" (as they cannot be called anything else) in which the animals are kept are clearly inadequate. They are small, unstimulating, and depressing, leaving an impression of complete neglect for the habitats needed to ensure these creatures' physical and mental comfort. There is no visible effort to minimally replicate the natural environments of the species. Additionally, the lack of staff supervision is alarming. There were not enough employees to monitor visitors, allowing people to constantly tap on the enclosures, startling the animals and causing evident stress. This basic lack of care highlights poor management and a complete disregard for the suffering caused by such repeated actions. Right at the entrance to Wildlife Sydney, I saw the tree kangaroo, a fascinating and rare animal, confined to a space that can only be described as deplorable. The area designated for it was, quite literally, a box—a small, poorly maintained space that bore no resemblance to the natural habitat of this animal, known for living in dense forests full of trees where it can display its natural arboreal behavior. The kangaroo sat with its head down, clearly disheartened and apathetic. The scene alone was heartbreaking, but what made it worse was witnessing the interaction (or rather, the lack of protection) between the visitors and the animal. A child was frantically banging on the box’s glass, trying to get the kangaroo’s attention, while no staff member was present to intervene or educate the public about the importance of respecting animals’ boundaries and well-being. When the tree kangaroo finally looked at the child, what I saw was even more distressing: a vacant gaze that conveyed sadness and discomfort. There was no sign of liveliness or curiosity, traits typically seen in healthy animals. I felt helpless witnessing this. A space that should educate about the importance of preservation and respect for animal life seems more interested in attracting tourists than in providing the minimum standards of dignity for its inhabitants. It is unacceptable for a place with such visibility and educational potential to treat animals as mere attractions rather than living beings deserving care and respect. I sincerely hope that the relevant authorities take action to address this situation and that visitors make more conscious decisions about the places they support. Until significant changes are made, I will not recommend Wildlife Sydney to anyone.Written 4 January 2025
- beesummer0 contributionsFun morningWe went to the breakfast with koalas. The tour was great and our guide Bailey was fun and informative. The tour was before opening so it was quiet and we got to see some zoo keepers working before opening. It lasted about an hour before we went to breakfast. Food was standard and decent. After that we got to go into the koala area and took some photos. You don’t hold the koalas, which I thought you did. Still worthwhile. My advice would be to eat quickly and get the photos taken - you can go to the zoo and if it’s early enough you’re walking around alone which was really cool.Written 1 December 2024
- 873rosiep0 contributionsAwesome ExperienceThe place was worth visiting. The staff out there was amazing. The animals are very well kept and it was really fun to visit the place. The kangaroo feeding was a great experience. Kangaroos love carrot.. make sure your kangaroo food has the carrot piece because they will mostly come and pick the carrot and eat.Written 21 August 2024
- Ogi00 contributionsAustralian ZooA very interesting zoo at Darling Harbour, populated only by native Australian animals. There's a lot to see, but it's expensive to visit.Written 18 August 2024
- jacquitohc0 contributionsTasmanian Devil – Fab!Wild LIFE; good selection of wildlife (especially kangaroos) I wouldn't expect, at Darling Harbour. Busy but interesting; dusty trail to see kangaroos; tiptoed past Tassie Devil (manic 'whooosh'-tornado in cartoon- memory), sleeping koalas; cassowary (related to kiwibird) – very cool. Limited time, perfect, close to everything, pretty special. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)Written 24 April 2024
- Rey47610 contributionsChristmas with the Crocs and KoalasSydney on the 25th of December... what was open, this Zoo! Got in early before the crowds... and boy, did they came. My only gripe about entering, and the entire visit, is the walkway. It is a bit to tiresome for someone pushing a grown person on a wheelchair, maybe add some space for rest stops so we don't hinder the line. With that aside, the zoo gave a cozy feeling and then it just wows. Small turns for some areas but it gets wide for the featured animals. Some of the lizards, they were already looking at us before we spotted them, cool and he wombats, very cute. Personal favorites were the Crocodile Billabong and the Koala Rooftop. The crocodiles were active that day and they really look menacing on the water. As for the Koalas, they made this Christmas Day more special as they were also very active when we there for pictures and snacks, even though we were told they sleep for almost 20hrs per day. Hope the photo kiosks get a good maintenance soon as some of them were on the fritz, but luckily, team members were glad to assist us.Written 19 January 2024
- JoeK1340 contributionsFantasticCouldn’t decide between this and taragona zoo. This was absolutely perfect for what we wanted - the koalas are GORGEOUS. We just wanted to see the main Aussie animals - kangaroos, wombats, Tasmanian devils, crocs and koalas and this place didn’t disappoint. Have been to many zoos and seen animals sleeping in the distance but this is very close and hands on - LOVED ITWritten 8 January 2024
- Andrew C0 contributionsAdorable Animals and Superb Staff!!We came and had a wonderful experience visiting all the animals and engaging with your lovely staff. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the animals and in-particular the Australian animals that we can’t see back in the UK. A lady in particular called Adele who is from Brazil and can speak numerous languages was so lovely. She is a credit to your company and she was on her break and still engaged with us for quite a long time and answered all of our questions on the animals. Spent pretty much all day on your premises and would definitely recommend visiting here to all animal lovers and anyone who loves their animals. This was a Birthday celebration we had been waiting over 3 years to celebrate and visiting here was probably the highlight of the day and one of the highlights of my holiday!!Written 27 December 2023
- 191thu_nv0 contributionsNot worth the moneyThe zoo only have a limited amount of animal. People might find that the animals there are very interesting to see but in my families opinion it is quite poor. The animals were very little and there weren’t many things to see. For family who only wants to see Australian native animal or classic zoo vibe I would recommend this place. But for family who want to see more interesting things I wouldn’t recommend this place. Thank you for reading my review.Written 19 December 2023
- Teacake_Taster0 contributionsSurprisingly goodRight on the harbour side next to the sealife centre. Looks expensive but for an ethical zoo in the city it’s pretty good value. There is a trail up through the zoo, a bit like sealife centres. Overall not a lot of animals but we saw most of them. Highlights were the tree kangaroo, snakes, crocodiles, platypus and the koalas. Keepers very happy to talk about the animals. Great to see the Koalas close up.Written 17 December 2023
- BarrySandell0 contributionsAwesome insight to Australian wildlifeBrilliant small zoo of just Australian wildlife: koalas, platypus, kangaroos, crocs, wombats, tassie devils, cassowary, lots of birds, lots of insects, lots of reptiles, all up close. Loved it! Contrary to a couple of the reviews here, although the zoo is small, I saw no indication of classic stressed animal behaviour, and the animals seemed well-accustomed to people.Written 20 November 2023
- jamesWOsmond0 contributionsAnimals !!!Sydney Wildlife zoo @sydneywildlifezoo Very interesting venue in the middle of the city. If you enjoy wildlife exhibits this is for you! I enjoyed seeing the sleepy wombat and getting close (albeit behind glass) to a pretty big croc. That being said it is more of an experience for city people or those who don't get to see our awesome wildlife in the ... wild. 🐾🌳 That being said if you want to give the little ones an experience without any danger its a great day out for the family. All sorts of exhibits nocturnal🦇 , reptiles🐍🦎 and a few Roos🦘 etc , it was a warm day so most were taking shelter and napping. Pretty cool amount of koalas there too .🐨 Decent place to spend some time (an hour or so) pricing wasn't bad either, would recommend buying as a package and doing the aquarium and madame tussauds too! Didn't use the amenities , sorry didn't have to go 🤷♂️ 5 out of 5 for a family 👨👩👧👧 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I enjoyed it too but once is enough. #animals #zoo #roos #crocodile #cafe #fun #familyfriendlyWritten 9 October 2023

Speaking of Australia, I visited because I had to see koalas🐨 and kangaroos🦘.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to hold them in NSW, but I was able to take photos with them at close range.
There were many different animals in the zoo, and since it was indoors, I was able to take my time looking around without worrying about the weather.
If you combine your ticket with other facilities (Madame Tussauds, Sea Life, Sydney Tower Eye), it's more economical, so if you have time, I recommend getting the combined ticket.

This was exactly what we wanted to see with our limited time in Sydney before going on a cruise ship. It was also close by in Darling Harbour. I felt the price was fair and I was able to see Kangaroos and Kuwala Bears which are only found in Australia.
The place is sizeable and we went early morning when it first opens at 10am. We finished it in 1 hour and that was good for us yet others may take longer.

As others have said, the first few viewing areas were a little underwhelming albeit it did pick up as we went round. Quite a lot to see - more than you might expect from an inner city location. Staff friendly enough although, when we went through, those in the kangaroo walkabout spent all their time chatting rather than talking to visitors. Koala viewing area was good tho' we don't recommend pre-booking the paid photo opportunity - make your mind up when you're there as you can get very close without paying ... and their photography really wasn't that good for $30. Overall, worth doing but manage your expectations. Feels more commercial than conservation.

Hi Ken,
Thank you for taking the time to review us. It is disappointing to hear that you thought our zoo was not big enough during certain points throughout your journey. However, as you noted, Due to our position in the city we do not have the space to expand our zoo much more yet we are the homes to amazing Australian animals such as our sleepy koalas and gorgeous kangaroos. We definitely take pride in our efforts to promote conservation, particularly with our very own keeper starting the WILD LIFE Conservation Fund, with the mission to generate interest, inspire awareness, share knowledge and take action to conserve native wildlife. We aim to achieve this through fundraising, hosting educational talks and local initiatives such as our school outreach programs.
In regards to the koala photo experience, our package involves not only getting up close to our koalas, but chatting with our keepers and learning about our sleepy and adorable koalas, along with having any of your questions answered! In regards to the koala photos, we are always more than happy to have guests retake their photos if they are not happy with the final look.
If you have any further feedback, please let us at wildlifesydney@merlinentertainments.com.au - We hope to see you again in the future for another adventure!
Cheers,
WILD LIFE Sydney Team

If you haven't or rarely go to zoos, Sydney Zoo is a great international zoo. We live in Ohio so we have the great Columbus and Cincinnati Zoo
.what the Wild Life Sydney Zoo offers, a quick, up close view of animals found in Australia. It is great! You walk onto paths that have kangaroos wombats roaming free. You can feed the kangaroos with purchase pellets. The problem with that is many of the kangaroos are going to be full at the end of the day. There was also a koala up close picture opportunity. The fee was 25 Australian. Unfortunately, you will NOT be able to hold or touch the koalas. Post the devastating fires in Australia New South Wales has outlawed humans touching koalas. We were able to actually pet a koala at the Lone Pine sanctuary in Queensland. We were just happy to say that we actually visited the Sydney Zoo. Also if you're going on to New Zealand do not buy anything that is made of wood. You will not be able to bring it into New Zealand.

So me and my partners travelled all the way from the U.K. to see a Platypus. After a disappointing visit to a Taronga Zoo where the exhibit was closed we tried your Wild Life centre (Darling Harbour) as one last hope. There was no sighting of the Platypus as he was having a sleep in his nest box. I asked one of the keepers ‘Jess’ who was very passionate about the zoo telephoned through to her colleague on the radio who she knew would be cleaning the Platypus enclosure. She arranged for us to meet Andrea so she could help us see the Platypus. Well she went above and beyond, she made our dream come true. She took us behind the exhibit, gave us a talk about how she cares for the Platypus and shared so much of her knowledge. Her passion and love for the Platypus and her job really shows. She allowed us to take a quiet peek at the Platypus without disturbing him. Leaving us walking away from your zoo delighted. We are so grateful Thankyou so much Jess and Andrea :-)

I must admit I was not sure what to expect when I visited this zoo, in what appeared to be a compact space in the heart of the city. It was very busy outside and the queues were extensive the staff were doing their best to organise the queues and keep people sticking to their time-slots, once we entered the queues were quickly staggered by the obligatory family photo against the green screen, this actually staggered the queue well and took away the frantic crowded feeling. The first section was a bit disappointing as many animals were nowhere to be seen and the kids quickly lost interest in trying to spot anything. If you visit a Zoo you hope you’re doing some good by paying decent amount of money with the prospect of a proportion going to the conservation and habitat protection for some of these animals, that said, if you walk around and can’t help feeling sorry for some of the residents then in my opinion certain things have to change. The staff were great and oozed enthusiasm but I personally struggled with the confined environment and some of the enclosures were disappointing and lacked imagination. The kangaroo space and the duck billed platypus where the highlights, but I found the Koala cafe bit a bit naff. All in all I struggled to enjoy this attraction, would I go again?…….. probably not.

Hi there NottheonlyMatt!
Thank you so much for your honest review!
We are happy to hear that you enjoyed seeing our Kangaroos and Platypus and enjoyed interactive with our dedicated Curatorial Team.
In regards to our enclosures, please be assured that our animals habitats are built to replicate the natural habitat they would typically be found in and throughout the day we give our animals enrichment to change up their day to day life and to provide more stimulus. This could include putting in random objects such as cardboard boxes to toys filled with sweet potato.
In saying that we're always open to hearing what we can do better for our animals and would love to hear your thoughts! Please email us at wildlifesydney@merlinentertainments.com.au
Cheers,
WL Team

We did this because we were staying right next to it and kept looking at it wondering how it would be. We got a multi pass so it wasn't too expensive once you split the cost across the multiple attractions. We were surprised at how good it was for the price. We could find all the animals/insects in the enclosures easily enough. Loved the open wallaby walkthrough and the open koala home. We spent about an hour there and it was nice to wander around this attraction and then step right back out to Darling Harbour and carry on exploring. We went late in the day and had the place to ourselves. We didn't have high expectations based on it's central location, so it was better than expected.

I loved it! Although there are some things I would like to touch on. For example three were not many animals but that’s ok because it is a small zoo in the city. Also the souvenir shop was not working so I paid for nothing! I would love if you guys make the price of toys in the gift shop a little bit cheaper but overall it was amazing!

Hi Halob2023,
Thank you so much for your feedback! We are so glad to hear that you had a lovely adventure with us at WILD LIFE Sydney.
As you can appreciate, due to our location in the city, we do not have the opportunity to expand our zoo further, however, we hope that along with our reptiles you were also able to enjoy meeting our many mammals and birds including our mob of kangaroos, Tasmanian Devils, cassowary, and Frankie the numbat; the only numbat living outside of his native Western Australis.
In regards to the souvenir shop, we would love to understand what happened in more detail, if you could send us an email at wildlifesydney@merlinentertainments.com.au, we can further discuss the issue with the souvenir shop.
However, we are so pleased to hear you had a great time and we cannot wait to see you again in future!
Cheers,

Such a terrible attraction. The exhibits were very limited and the place was almost empty inside. We visited Currumbin a few weeks ago and we’re amazed by the open area and the joy of all the animals. Here, the animals are confined to tiny little spaces, with barely any real nature, and close to the smog of the city, and the animals look very sad and unhappy. It really should be relocated to an open air space!
