- 1Your tour of the Sydney Opera House takes you into some of the world’s most iconic performance venues, where more than 1,500 concerts, plays, musicals and ballets are staged every year. Explore it with an insider guide, who shares stories and fun facts about the opera house’s history, performances and architecture throughout your 1-hour tour. Walk through the elegant foyers, visit one of the largest pillar-free chambers in the world, sit down in a custom-made white birch chair and look up at the vaulted ceiling. Check out areas that are off-limits to the general public, learn about the distinctive exterior design made up of ‘shell’ tiles, and hear about opera house’s Danish architect, including his inspiration and building challenges.
About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Joel K0 contributionsSydney Opera House is worth seeing! The Sydney Opera House was amazing to see. The architecture is beautiful and hearing the story behind its construction was enlightening. I’d recommend it to anyone coming to Sydney. It only takes a little more than an hour so it’s easy to fit into a day.Written 20 September 2024
- averastravels0 contributionsNot to be missed!I often cringe at the overuse of the word "iconic", but I can't think of a better one to describe the Sydney Opera House. We fully intended to catch a performance during our visit to Sydney, but none were scheduled for those days. Learning about the history behind the changing plans, design challenges and construction materials are worth the physical effort involved in going up and down the stairs!Written 20 September 2024
- David B0 contributionsGreat tourThe Opera House is a really beautiful building, and the history of how it was designed and built is fascinating. Our tour guide was clearly very passionate about the House and did a great job at telling us about it. Highly recommend if you have any interest in architectureWritten 18 September 2024
- Z7200TPan0 contributionsReally should goThe price is much cheaper than booking directly from the theater's website. The tour is short and nice. Worth going for sure.Written 11 September 2024
- williambQ4094GS0 contributionsBreakfast tour is best to takeConor did a great job. We got a full tour from multiple stages and behind, dressing rooms, symphony hall, fly tower, set storage and more. Very informative and interesting and Conor provided great derail on the history renovations and workings of the space. Even got to see the 50 year old wind machine that's never been used and the foundation for the no longer used round stage lift. If possible thke the breakfast tour as you'll be able to see motr of the house, and breakfast in the green room (staff canteen) is actually goodWritten 11 September 2024

- TravelTheWorld440 contributions5 out of 5We lived in sydney for 35 years and did this tour with the visitors from overseas. It was an absolute highlight of visiting Sydney for them and we were pleasantly surprised how much we’ve learned about the opera house on this tour :) If you love architecture / engineering / history - this tour is a must :)Written 8 September 2024
- DrGreyhound0 contributionsMemorableEven a grumpy Victorian can still be wowed by the majesty of CQ with bridge & Opera House views. Like the pyramids or Eiffel Tower, guess SOH comes to mind of everyone thinking Oz internationally. Really still grabs the eye no matter how many times seen. Magnificent & timeless architecture. Unfortunately, in 2025 perceptions are stained by the disgusting anti-Israel protests in week after Oct 7, 2024. Appalled an Australian icon made a deathly back-drop for “gas/get the Jews” chants.Written 3 September 2024
- justbehappy20190 contributionsA must for any visit to SydneySuzanne was very informative on this tour. Her knowledge was extensive, with a little humour. We were able to go into 2 of the theatres and saw the set of a production.Written 2 September 2024
- YummyIstanbulTours0 contributionsArchitectural Marvel and Icon of SydneyThe Sydney Opera House is an architectural marvel and a true icon of Sydney! Its unique sail-like design is instantly recognizable and breathtakingly beautiful. The building stands proudly on the harbour, offering stunning views from every angle. Walking around the Opera House, you can truly appreciate the intricate details and the visionary design that went into creating this masterpiece. It’s not just a building; it’s a symbol of creativity and innovation. A must-see for anyone visiting Sydney!Written 31 August 2024
- TrekStars0 contributionsExcellent tour for allI booked this tour online at the last minute and was so glad I did. I got such a deep insight into all aspects of this spectacular landmark. I learnt MUCH more than I would have if I just walked around the building. We were given headphones and I was initially confused (this part wasn't really explained) but it's simply so you can hear the tour guide as some parts are busy and it was a fairly large group. I loved having the headphones so I could control the volume and walk at my own pace. Only downside was when we watched a video the sound dropped in and out (maybe because the tour guide walked off to set up a Mandarin screening for other guests?? Maybe Bluetooth went out of range??). It was wonderful seeing the two biggest theatres although photos weren't allowed due to shows being set up in there. I would love to return to the Opera House to see a show one day and I would recommend this tour to everyone!Written 25 August 2024
- roseglobe0 contributionsReally well done!I did love the visit both for the amazing place and for the very good narrative of the guide, prepared and part of the theatre management so able to mix history and genuine love for the Opera House activities. Such a good experience that I bought a ticket for the evening show as soon as the tour was over!Written 24 August 2024
- Freedom8134260 contributionsDon't miss this tour1!Very interesting. Motivated guide. It opened my eyes. Never tought about the infrastructure behind the performances.Written 22 August 2024
- 372dianes0 contributionsA spectacular historic landmarkThis is a spectacular tour of the Opera House. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable which really helps with learning about the history of this phenomenal place. The architecture is amazing! We took the Architectural. I believe there are a few different tours, including one for mobility-challenged individuals. The Concert Hall is absolutely breathtaking!, There are several theaters which house ballets, concerts and stage plays There is an outdoor court that is used for performances as well, along with various restaurants. The view from the Opera House out to the harbor and the Sydney bridge is incredible and you'll be taking quite a few pictures. I highly recommend visiting this landmark!Written 21 August 2024
- arunshenai0 contributionsSydney opera house reviewLovely place. The guided tour was well conducted. Unfortunately the opera house is not well lit at night . Superb to see it across the Harbour bridge by day . Lovely to spend few hours walking near circular quay . Many food joints in the areaWritten 21 August 2024

Dear Gaflier,
Thank you for taking the time to provide us some feedback about your recent Sydney Opera House tour. We are disappointed to hear that you didn't enjoy your experience. As the Sydney Opera House is one of the busiest performance spaces in the world, sometimes some of our theatres are inaccessible during the tour. However, the tour still goes through many notable spaces and provides an in-depth exploration of our history and architecture. Due to privacy and copyright regulation, photos are not permitted in certain areas of the Sydney Opera House. We will be passing on your feedback to the relevant teams for review.
If you would like to discuss this matter further, then please do not hesitate to head to the 'contact us' section of our website so that one of our team can follow up with you in person.
Kind regards,
Team SOH

My wife was unable to handle all the steps on the normal walking tours of the Sydney Opera House. Fortunately, they offer one tour a day at noon that is accessible without the stairs. It was raining as hard as I've ever seen it rain on the day of our tours but it was definitely worthwhile. We got to see essentially all of the spots on the normal tour without the steps and learning lots of the idiosyncrasies of the Opera House and its development

Dear Silverstreak46,
We are so happy to hear that you and your wife enjoyed the Access Tour of the Sydney Opera House. We understand that sometimes stairs can be quite difficult to navigate so we are pleased that we could offer you an option that utilized the internal lifts instead. Glad that you found an activity to do inside too so that you didn't get too wet from the rain! We hope to see you again soon.
Kind regards

Most iconic place to visit in Sydney. But apart from this, we were a bit disappointed. It's easily recognized everywhere but when you are getting closer, it's smaller than you had already thought. And the famous "roof leaves" are far from their original white colour. In summary, it's an iconic building but nothing else

Dear Antoni S,
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We do agree that the Sydney Opera House is an iconic building! We are very sorry to hear that your visit with us did not meet your expectations. With many experiences on offer including performances, guided tours, and restaurants, we strive to make the House an exciting and inspiring place for all visitors.
Rest assured that we do take very good care of our famous tiles, and that they have not faded from their original colours - our architect Jørn Utzon always intended them to be off-white and cream, with a mixture of matte and glossy tiles in order to perfectly reflect the sunlight. They were also designed to be self-cleaning to ensure that they are always looking fresh!
Thanks again for the review. Kind regards,
Team SOH

Seeing the inside of the two main theatres was the highlight for me. I would love to be able attend a performance one day. Each time I’d been to Sydney previously the Opera House had been closed for one reason or another. After living in Australia for over 20 years attending this tour was very special for me. It was wonderful to share this adventure with family visiting from overseas.
I was surprised with the number of steps.

For the first time witnessing the Opera House was like AWE!.. Never dreamt but it happened and saw it with own eyes. Weather was good and kind to us. It's cool breezy windy and found few spots to take a good picture of it and us. Is like a dream come true!.

What a beautiful structure and fascinating tour. It was extremely interesting to hear the whole story of this. From the design contest, to the building of it, and the end result. This place is one of the most incredible man-made places in the world. If you go to Sydney, don't miss this!

It was always a dream of mine to visit Australia and the Sydney Opera House. This walking tour was everything and much more. We got inside and outside. We got to touch the tiles, see one of the opera houses, see a studio, learn about the history, see the magnificent views. I can't say enough about how wonderful this tour was.
