Amazing tour - incredible value and so much fun!
Jimmy puts on an amazing day- the food is spectacular! There are so many courses perfectly timed and paired with the wine. The pacing of the day is great. Jimmy really has his notes down and nicely spaces his fantastic tour guide points with allowing guests time to chat and enjoy. I did this one as a solo traveler and found it really lovely! A great way to see the Hunter Valley without having a car. Plus we saw kangaroos in the wild! Would go again tomorrow and have shared this with everyone I've met since!

      Life is a Beach!
We had the best day touring Sydney beaches and eating Australian food with Jimmy. The Freshwater Rescue piece of the tour was very interesting as well. Jimmy is a great chef and a wonderful person to spend the day with. He works very hard to make the day go smoothly and he keeps you very well fed. We had a blast.

      Wow! What a day.
Thank you Jimmy for an amazing gourmet food and wine tour of the Hunter Valley. Every aspect of the day was perfect. From the early morning visit to the Sydney Fish Markets to the gourmet breakfast stop by the river. Each winery we went to was interesting in their wine information and tasting. The food at each stop and first class (even our self made sushi rolls!) Who would imagine we would finish with creme brulee. Thank you.

THE best food tour in Sydney
This tour was absolutely amazing! We visited several beaches around Sydney and a local Surf Life Saving Club where Jimmy prepared delicious Australian themed meals and snacks for us. We even went to a local brewery for beer/cider tasting! There was plenty of time to walk the beaches and take in the sites. Jimmy was a wealth of local knowledge and took us to some great lookouts over Sydney Harbour. It was very organized and had a fun atmosphere. HIGHLY recommend!

      Awesome experience
Jimmy provided the best experience you can imagine. He is an excellent, knowledgeable, and entertaining tour guide. His food and wine pairings showed his vast knowledge and the food was very well prepared and absolutely delicious. The wineries he took us to were all winners with very courteous and knowledgeable hosts. Jimmy certainly has 11 new fans. We would be delighted to take another tour with him. We would all give him five stars plus plus two thumbs up.

Enjoyable day out in Hunter Valley
Very good day out particularly at the 2nd and 3rd wineries that we visited where we were able to taste food cooked by Jimmy paired with some nice Hunter Valley wines. Visit to the Sydney Fish Market was a good start to the tour too.

This was a great tour. Jimmy is very knowledgeable about the area and is an excellent chef. He is also a safe driver. The food prepared was almost all local and some specialties. The history of the Life Saving Club was fascinating.

      Great Beach Views….Great Food….Great Experience
This is a new tour from Gourmet Getaways. Once again Jimmy scores big for his clients. Our day started with an excellent breakfast and a scenic walk to Bondi Beach. Another brilliant handcrafted lunch served after a fun tour at the famous Freshwater Surf Lifesaving Club, was a highlight. Finally, the visit to Manly to enjoy some Craft Brews and the beach, was a great way to top off our day. Jimmy does a remarkable job of making his guests feel at home, through his food, insights, and humor. 5 Stars? We’d “Dial it up to 11”.

Another stellar tour with Chef Jimmy
We had gone on the Full day Hunter Valley Wine tour with Chef Jimmy the day before. We were so glad to be able to go on the beach and Aussie food tour as well. The food was superb! We were able to see many of the beaches, walk from Brontë to Bondi beach, have an amazing lunch prepared by Jimmy at the Surf Life Saving Club, stop at a microbrewery, and take a ferry from Manly to Circular Quay. As with the day before, the tour and the food exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this tour.

      A delicious day
If you are looking for a fantastic trip to the Hunter Valley filled with excellent food and wine, this is the trip for you! Our trip included a visit to the fish market, a park where we had breakfast and rolled sushi and three small wineries. We even saw wild kangaroos! Jimmy is a terrific chef and an excellent guide. You will be in great hands with him! I cannot speak more highly of this tour; it is one of the best food and wines tours I’ve done.

The amount of love and care Jimmy puts in to each tour day is evident!
My husband and I did Jimmy’s Hunter Valley Wine Region tour. We were in Jimmy’s care from 7am to 7pm on a tour in December 2023. We were two of the 11 people participating for the day. It is so evident the amount of time, care and choreography Jimmy puts in to each and every trip. Before our day begins together he’s already put in several hours of work shopping and prepping for our food experience. He sent us an email the day prior tweaking his arrival time by 5 minutes based on the final count of registered participants and his pick up points. He knows exactly which order to pick up his guests to maximize time and get us over to the Sydney Fish Market straightaway. In the market he gave us a peak in to the world of seafood auctioning and took us around to various vendors showing us their signature specialty prepared foods. He also gave us an overview of some of the seafood specific to Australia. Truth be told he could make the market in to an and all day adventure wrapped up in cooking lessons / wine pairings and I would have been happy to stay in Sydney. Hubby and I were such fans of the market we went there for breakfast the next day - the sushi taco’s are a must try. The days’s stops followed the pattern that many reviews mentioned- Stop 1 - a park in Brooklyn where we have beeakfast and take a sushi rolling class. Stop 2 - winery 1 … wine tasting only Stop 3 - bonus .. a local chocolate shop Stop 4 - winery 2 with food pairings Stop 5 - winery 3 with food pairings At each stop everything was set up perfectly for our arrival and the wine was waiting! At stop number two we had some time so my husband purchased two bottles to open and share on site with other participants. All in all it was a perfect day. We appreciate and are grateful for all of the care and hard work he shared with us to give us a special experience while visiting Australia. Jimmy is a wonderful ambassador of food, wine and Sydney. Thank you Jimmy.

      Delicious Sydney food experience
This was a fantastic tour. The food was excellent, activities interesting, and Jimmy (tour operator) was the so informative and accommodating. Favorite experience was the visit to freshwater surf club where we got see some of the various techniques involved in surf lifesaving over the years. This was followed by an absolutely delicious lunch of Australian cuisine cooked by Jimmy. It was a full day, good money's worth. Would highly recommend for foodies

Jimmy, our guide and former chef did an outstanding job! Knowledge of food, wine and Sydney was amazing! He was fun, interesting, informative and an excellent cook! He first took us to the Sydney fish market, 3rd largest in the world, that alone was unforgettable, where he picked up his provisions for the day. He cooked breakfast for us in a lovely park overlooking a harbor, the food was truly delicious and plentiful, then he taught us how to make sushi! From there we went to Hunter Valley where we enjoyed the wine tasting, the wineries he chose were beautiful, scenic, tasty and friendly, he then prepared food to match with the wine we tasted. Everything he cooked was delectable and eye appealing as well! It was an amazing and unforgettable experience, worth the money!!! I’d definitely do it again!

We were glad this tour went ahead on Monday mar 16 with the covid virus fears. Jimmy kept everybody well sanitized as there were 15 of us. We had a great mix of Aussies, Americans,Canada & HongKong. Everyone got along and we all had a great time. As advertised, Jimmy cooks amazing meals with food bought from the Sydney Fish Market . At the hawkesbury we even learned how to make and roll our own sushi to eat later in the day. We visited 3 boutique wineries with impressive wines and at the last two wineries we ate as we tasted. The kangaroo sliders were to die for. They were THAT good. I would not hesitate to recommend people to do this tour.

The Hunter Valley Gourmet Food tour was sensational. Jimmy was the perfect host, tour guide and chef extraordinare. Starting off at the Fish Markets, then onto Brooklyn for a perfectly cooked breakfast, sushi making class in a beautiful location. His knowledge of the Hunter was amazing and the wine-paring with the food made it an experience to remember. A terrific day. 100% recommendation. Thanks again Jimmy. Louise and friends.

Do you love delicious food, exceptional wine, and learning more about Australia? If so, this tour will certainly meet, and maybe even exceed, your expectations.

Food tours are one of my favorite ways to get to know a new area, and with only two weeks in Sydney I was eager to see what was available. When I came across this tour and saw mentions of wine, incredible seafood, and lots of great reviews, it was an easy decision for me to reserve the last three seats for myself and two friends on the Saturday we we had available. All I can say is this: I am so lucky to have gotten those seats!

Chef Jimmy is truly the heart of this tour, and there were three things he brought in abundance:

    1. The organization: From my pickup hotel at 6:30am until my 5:30pm afternoon drop-off, everything on this tour ran like clockwork. From my experience, this only happens with sufficient experience and preparation. Chef Jimmy had prepared most of the ingredients the day before, with the exception being fresh ingredients he picked up at the Sydney Seafood Market with us in the morning. This allowed Chef Jimmy to have the food quickly cooked and served at all of our stops, which was especially impressive at the wineries which had a number of wine pairings for the dishes. The close monitoring and adherence to the schedule, clear instructions at each stop, and excellent relationships with the winery staff displayed the years of experience Chef Jimmy brings to the table.

    2. The knowledge. As someone who loves history I had hoped to learn about the area, and Chef Jimmy was a trove of information. Throughout the day he facts and figures at the ready on topics such as local Sydney history, daily life in Australia, native plants and animals, the Hunter Valley, and of course... the food!

    3. The food. All of the ingredients were fresh, delicious, and perfectly prepared . The menu relied on local ingredients that were in-season, which only makes me want to return at another time of year to see what other dishes he is cooking up. For my trip, one of the standout dishes was the Sydney Rock Oysters with Finger Limes (a native Australian fruit). Chef Jimmy was also able to accommodate dietary restrictions with equally fantastic alternatives. Don't like seafood? Not a problem. Don't eat beef? Chef Jimmy has got you covered!

Chef Jimmy's food, friendless, and enthusiasm for the work he does made this one of my favorite experiences in Australia. I would absolutely do this tour again with friends and family on future trips to Sydney!

Amazing day! Jimmy made it educational, fun and delicious. We saw the fish market that was the beginning of Jimmy getting some fresh seafood for some of what was to come. The fish market itself was worth seeing. A few indigenous to Australia varieties like “bug” that tasted like lobster as well as a fish market that had other amenities making it worth a trip back for lunch another day. We embarked from there to a lovely park with a lake where we had a bathroom break while he went to our eventual destination and prepared a breakfast for us at a grill station in the park. Two of the participants had special dietary restrictions and he didn’t just substitute something he made them special foods incorporating things everyone had. Fast forward to three very different vineries, one very traditional, one elegant and one modern. At the second and third wineries Jimmy paired the wines with delicious gourmet bites. The winemakers educated us about their wines as we enjoyed being spoiled for the day.
The group was friendly, and more so as we got.more lubricated and it was fun to meet other travelers. Jimmy is a chef who enjoys his craft and enjoys others enjoying his cooking and it shows, One request: can some of the recipes be shared on line? Oh, and we learned to make sushi after breakfast and had our own creations as a snack later in the afternoon. Smart move to put the sushi making before the wine drinking!

Absolutely amazing and probably one of the most well-organized tours I've joined. We visited the fish market, a small mountain where we had breakfast and made sushi, and 3 vineyards. The tour isn't just fun when we arrived at the vineyards or activity sites, but during the transit Jimmy also provided information and fun facts about the attractions or scenery around, but not too much that you felt tired listening. The food that Jimmy made was also great and well-paired with the wines that we got to taste.

Jimmy is also a very friendly, experienced and humorous guide. Not only did he put effort in engaging the participants, but he also took care of the need of individuals. So overall, this tour is fantastic and I'd recommend every wine lovers visiting Sydney to join!

Jimmys mom was right - by mixing his chef background with his tour guide background...what a winner ! This one of a kind in Sydney wine and food tour with Chef Jimmy cooking on site out of his van for you is just wonderful. All courses of the food service were delicious and added another dimension to a winery tour of pairing wines with foods. The wineries we visited in the Hunter Valley were very great too - all small boutique wineries.....and all very good..... we bought wine so that tells the truth.

We enjoyed an excellent Hunter Valley wine and food tour with Jimmy, our tour guide, driver and very accomplished chef. It started with an 0630 pick up from our hotel, followed by others which meant we reached the first stop, Sydney fish market, around 0725. Jimmy explained how it worked and then went off to source some very fresh seafood that we would consume later. Many of us used the opportunity to stock up on some nice coffee as Jimmy’s van doesn’t (yet) have a coffee as part of his innovative cooking set up. 50 minutes later it was time for a brief walk around a lake whilst Jimmy cooked breakfast for us before teaching us how to roll sushi, which we would eat later at one of the wineries. It’s then an hour or so to the Hunter Valley where we visited three small boutique wineries, many of which you cannot buy on the High street. Jimmy provides an excellent meal - fresh oyster, asparagus with Parmesan and truffle oil, waygu beef sliders, crème brûlée blowtorched in front of us. Then it’s a two hour drive back to Sydney - a long day but very worth it. Jimmy provides an informative but unintrusive commentary on Sydney, wildlife etc on the way. A very enjoyable day and would recommend it.

Spent an absolutely marvelous day with Jimmy! No visit to Sydney would be complete without a trip to visit the Hunter Valley and we were fortunate to spend it with friends (both old and new) enjoying the sights and tastes of this beautiful region.

Any doubt about this trip was removed when we met two other couples who had traveled on this very trip several years earlier and made the effort to include Jimmy and his tour on their return visit to Sydney!

This small group experience was exactly the best way to see, touch, and taste some of what makes this region special. If you enjoy good wine, excellent food prepared fresh, and great people this is the trip for you.

Our guide was friendly, informative and a very talented chef! The custom pairings of his menu with some lovely, boutique wines was exactly as promised.

If you make this trip - and I strongly recommend that you do - don’t miss the banana rum butter from Pokolbin Estate Vineyard. It will change your life!

This was an excellent day tour that I would highly recommend to anyone traveling in Sydney, Jimmy, the tour leader/chef was an excellent host. He is friendly & charming and knowledgeable about food & wines. The tour stops in a park on the way to wine country and Jimmy cooks up an delicious breakfast. After eating, he teaches the group how to roll sushi (which we eat later at one of the wineries). We went on to three wineries for tastings where we sampled 5-7 wines at each winery. The wines were paired with food that Jimmy prepared on his portable kitchen (built into the tour bus). The food was all scrumptious with many Australian specialties served. This small group tour was a bargain for all we got out of it. We would do it again.
