- Sherpa395896454580 contributionsLove love lovelove love love! Sarah is the best! People who like Sarah should go and watch this. Her singing and acting is different than she does during her concerts but fans who wants to experience something different should go and see this. What a treat! Dancing and acting and singing by Sarah! Mind blown! She brings her own style to this musical and for 64 years old, what an amazing act! The dancing is wow! Twirling at that age! In fact you just forget if she’s even 64, you’d think with her agility with her footsteps she could only been 22! Betty and Joes love scene is something to watch out for! It’s so amazing the way they dance on that floor. Everyday is different. It’s definitely much more mellow than that of compared to Glenn Close broadway, as Genz says it: with demure.Written 2 September 2024
- Z944OTannettew0 contributionsDon't miss this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity!Didn't think I'd ever have the chance to see Sarah Brightman perform in a musical production in Sydney. I loved her depiction of Norma Desmond. Such a sumptuous score, which reminded me of Phantom of the Opera. The production was incredible, with a breathtaking set. Tim Draxl's rendition of the title track was flawless. Can't wait to see it again!Written 31 August 2024
- jU8487AX0 contributionsFabulous set, Sarah Birghtman a little disappointingFabulous set, orchestra. Felt the performance of Sarah Brightman was a little lacking in stage presence- she didn't own the stage. Switching between English and US accents was poor. Overall we enjoyed the show, but wouldn't rave about itWritten 31 August 2024
- George_Burt0 contributionsA tragedy but magicalSarah Brightman and Tim Draxl as leads were brilliant, as we're all members of the cast. Special shout to the orchestra who were superb. Great plot. Great stage scenery. A real tragedy. What a setting in the Opera House.Written 30 August 2024
- Soozeeone0 contributionsSunset winnerAfter some terrible reviews hubby and I trekked into the city to see sunset boulevard.. it was a highlight. Full house at the opera house always great atmosphere. Sarah Brightman was better than I thought she was going to be.. over acted and sang in tune as the role required. The biggest hit for me was Tim Draxl and the ensemble cast particularly Robert grub who I didn’t know could sing .. just wonderful. The costumes the dancers and the little camp aspects made it a truely memorable evening. My advise Dont listen to the critics go and see for yourself.. they are offering a two for one ticket at the moment.. what a winnerWritten 29 August 2024
- 285philippaw0 contributionsOpera Australia - Cosi fan tutte - Masterful - Fun Mozart Opera at its bestOpera Australia - Cosi fan tutte . It is always a special night going to the Opera House with beautiful Harbour views and so many value eating options. The experience is taken to the next level with any Opera Australia performance, but especially the fun of Mozart's greatest operas. 3 hours of intrigue and deception never fully resolved. You won't nod off during this one! Bubbles at Interval? Or there are a number of water stations with disposable cups - a really pleasant options at any theatre that offers it. Enjoy the ambience and the performance - both top quality.Written 16 August 2024
- WelshNZers0 contributionsBrilliant Cosi fan tutteWe flew to Sydney to see this Opera. What a fabulous production with amazing set design, conductor, orchestra and cast. We enjoyed every moment of the performance. An excellent new production. What a fabulous evening in the Joan Sutherland Theatre where the audience obviously enjoyed the evening as much as we did. It encapsulated beautiful music, a humorous plot and brilliant voices. Sorry there are no photos as it wasn’t permitted during the performance.Written 12 August 2024
- D527OYjosephp0 contributionsChampagne without any bubblesThe singers were let down by the conductor. It was heavy-handed, the tempi felt slow, and there was no humour in the orchestral play when it was called for.Written 3 August 2024
- dbarnard90 contributions31 July 2024 Sydney Opera House - ToscaMy first opera and this was a real special one! Had plenty moments of 'wow this is intense'. Good performances by orchestra and artists. Karah Son playing Tosca was incredible. Young Woo Kim and Gevorg Hakobyan also played their roles very well!Written 31 July 2024
- lloydp2210 contributionsStunning Iconic Building with a superb acoustic interior .. worth a visit for the architecture alone.Beautiful evening to watch the Opera Tosca, this is such an iconic building and is worth a visit , this was topped off with an excellent performance of Tosca . The acoustics within the hall are superb and the performance was excellent.Written 27 July 2024
- Markhalx0 contributionsGreat Evening at the Sydney Opera House.Very enjoyable triple-bill of short Puccini operas. The performers did a very good job, and the opera orchestra was wonderful as always. Dinner at Bennelong prior to the show was stunning. Highly recommend.Written 15 July 2024
- rbnphoto0 contributionsUnusual booking by Trip AdvisorIt is highly unusual that when you book through TripAdvisor you cannot see the location of your seats. You only get a qualitative rating such as great location or something similar. Performance of Tosca was ok. Superb performance by the Korean singer Young Woo Kim in the role of Cavaradossi.Written 29 June 2024
- B1812GUjonathanw0 contributionsMuted orchestraLack luster, small-scale production of Tosca, significantly below the level in repertory in other opera houses around the world. The acting is good, the staging is rather gimmicky but the principal problem is that two-thirds of the orchestra is beneath the stage, which mutes the acoustics. That is fine for a musical where amplification is in the mix, but for an opera (where nothing is mic'd) it makes the orchestra seems very quiet, which doesn't suit a surging melodrama like Tosca. Please, please take out the first couple of rows of seats, bring the orchestra forward, and let the sound fill the house.Written 26 June 2024
- Trekkingtheglobe_100 contributionsThe Best Kept Secret in SydneyThis is probably Sydney’s best kept secret and it’s perfect for residents and tourists alike. Just a quick rundown of how the gala works: A number of upbeat favourites are performed, some purely symphony and others featuring very talented singers. The gala is in two parts with one long intermission. This is designed for the attendees to see the “family fireworks” at 9:30. Everyone returns to a very enthusiastic performance that I guarantee you will never see performed at the Opera House any other time of the year. Short of midnight, the performance concludes and people are let out onto the raised area outside the Opera House blocked off to the general public with one of the best views of the fireworks; and at midnight, the fireworks in all their glory, ring in the new year.Written 21 May 2024

Amazing to see a performance at this architectural treasure, and to explore the building a bit beforehand and to see the beautiful Harbour view from the balcony. The production of Kean’s modern opera Hamlet was excellent (though we are not huge modern opera fans). We saw it on the smaller stage, which is apparently not as grand as the main stage. My one criticism is that it would be helpful to know the name of the show you are getting through Trip Advisor/Viator when you purchase your tickets. If we had a choice, we would likely have chosen an orchestra performance in the main hall rather than a modern opera on the smaller stage. That said, it was an experience we will not forget.

It has been a long- held ambition to see an opera at the Sydney Opera House and the performance of Tosca lived up to the anticipation. The auditorium is amazing and the scenery was breath-taking. Every aspect of the performance was of the highest standard. The help in getting my wife, who has difficulty walking, to a taxi after the show was the icing on the cake

Opera Australia excelled again at the performance of Idomeneo.
An amazing production that conveyed the power and emotion of the Ocean with appropriate video effects. This opera also explored the emotional response when the sacrifice of an Innocent Son is required to placate the Greek Gods. Brilliant performance by both the Opera Chorus and the Soloists.

Amazing performance of a Mozart Classic Opera "The Magic Flute!" The Sudbey Opera Orchesta was masterful. The lead singers were talented and accomplished. Of course, the Sidney Opera House is spectacular, not only the Joan Sutherland Theater where the Opera took place but the entire complex is breath-taking! A truly marvelous experience!

It was a great night of opera, but a bit confusing as we had no idea what to expect or how things worked. We asked a lot of questions of several people in uniform, most also did not know where we were to go. There are several theaters in the complex.
We didn’t realize that we were seeing a full opera. We thought the tickets were for some other “sampler” type show and a chance to see the inside of the theater.
We ended up seeing Indomeneo, and thinking they put us in the wrong theater…
All good, just that it would have been better to explain that the tickets get you into an open seat at a full opera performance on that evening.

What’s a trip to Sydney without a trip to the opera? We attended Don Giovanni last Saturday evening and was very pleased with the experience. Singers were solid, orchestra very good and the whole experience worthwhile. We did not add on the dinner experience but there are many restaurants near the opera house to choose from.

A wonderful performance and a wonderful facility! We sat in the very last row and we were as happy as can be. I haven't been to the opera since I was a kid in Chicago. We were so pleased with the talent as well as the clever staging. In addition, the staff was very attentive and pleasant, which made the experience quite memorable.
Thank you so much!

sound is the best we've ever heard anywhere, sit anywhere in the space, amazing that there is seating all around the stage. Gorgeous, memorable building and concert hall. Local Sydney concert leader and group is top notch, world class.

What a performance . Went to LA BOHEME. It was absolutely a marvellous performance and emotional .
I am an avid opera goer and this rates among the best . Obviously the Sydney Opera House added to the perfidy.
