- CindyC441700Great venue and guideOur guide was excellent and the venue quite beautiful. Maybe one day I could attend a concert there. We were able to see both of the large theaters.
- kellyxinfinity00Well worth it!A unique and interesting way to spend an hour at Circular Quay. Our guide, Darryl, was knowledgeable and funny, showing us the many intricacies of the Opera House. It was amazing to see some behind-the-scenes rehearsal and set up in the theatres. Highly recommend!
- Fortyexcel00Good for an overview of history & BTSDid an online booking - which was easy and quick - better than the unhelpful and uninterested girl at the ticket counter. Started and ended on time. Our guide Emily was sweet, respectful and considerate. However as it was raining maybe we missed the part of the tour which was on the outside - will never know. Also, we didn’t get to photograph or talk in both the concert halls as they were being prepared for the upcoming shows - which is a shame really - specially because one of them just had a single ballet dancer catching up on his sleep on the stage - not even remotely preparing for the show! Can’t say it was money well spent - do this only if you have the time or want to tick it off your list.
- Teacake_Taster00SurprisingGood: get to see three theatres and the architecture from inside and out (on the balconies). Also a couple of films about why it’s built on a special place and who built it which is fascinating, and how the original architect ‘returned’ to carry out improvements. We got to sit in both of the large theatres and learn about the layout and acoustics. Slightly reminiscent of the Barbican in London (there is a tenuous link). Leaving bags is easy as staff are very helpful. Shop is small. Not so good: it was a large group of about 30 and the guy taking us round used an effective headphone system but it makes it difficult to interact and ask questions and the talk felt a bit robotic until the guy was asked a question when the chance arose. The tour route might change depending on what is on at the time. There are a lot of steps, especially if you climb up only to find you have to go down again during to turnround activities. Everyone seemed to manage though.
- flo22000Inside tour of iconic landmark -- don't miss itVery interesting tour of the iconic Sydney opera house. Since it is hard to get tickets to performances, this was the only way to see the inside of it. The tour guide was enthusiastic and gave a lot of information and seemed to go out of her way to get us into as many of the rooms as possible. While it is pricey it shouldn't be missed, if possible.
- rosaidaliar202300The Opera House tour!Absolutely worth doing! Getting to know the story of how the Opera House was planned, develop and build is just amazing! Glad my boys got to do it and enjoying it so much.
- sheridanv201800A meeting place like no otherA distinctive and famous community meeting place with a stunning harbour view. It's a place where you can have a picnic, take a tour, and enjoy a show! Whether you're looking for a fun day out or a romantic evening, the Opera House is sure to provide a memorable experience. Just don't forget to bring your camera – you'll want to capture the beauty of this iconic building!
- birgitw24300Opera House tourWe were not allowed to take any pictures! Our guide was too self important and short on facts and detail about the opera house. Did not get see much of the interior, had to watch videos!
- Leonie L00Must do TourExcellent tour with Peter, the tour guide. He was passionate about the history, and we could tell he loved his job. He took us to places where we felt very spoilt, getting to the Swan Lake rehearsal!
- 377clarkeh00Stunning architecture and vibrant atmosphereThe Sydney Opera House is an iconic example of Danish design, offering a unique and diverse program of events. From world-renowned opera and ballet performances, to contemporary music, theatre and more, the Sydney Opera House has something for everyone. Enjoy the famous views of the harbor and the city skyline, and explore the many restaurants, bars and shops that make the Sydney Opera House a must-see destination.
- Dream1813685530600Very enjoyable tourWonderful peek at the inside of this iconic landmark. Bella was an informative guide and very patient with our early morning group.
- Relax82898700Worth taking! Our guide was Zoe and she was great -- very entertaining and knowledgeable. The microphone/headphone system meant we all could hear what she said easily. I wish more tours would do this. Having taken the tour heightened my enjoyment of a performance in the Concert Hall the next day, so I highly recommend it. One thing that wasn't clear was the location of the Welcome Center where one needs to report to start the tour - it's on the lower level on the Harbour Bridge side.
- JohnWMillsIII00Exceptional acoustics and seating, lousy managementMy wife and I and another couple were lucky enough to get the last few seats available for the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra tour at the Sydney Opera House. We sat in what would normally be the choir loft, but let me tell you they were superb seats. I wish other venues would make the effort to put seats there like Sydney Opera House does. The only down side is the restrooms are on the ground level and it’s quite a walk from the choir loft to get there. The concert was supposed to start at 2030, but didn’t till 2045 because they wouldn’t open the seating gates till 2015. No way you can seat that many people in 15 minutes. The concession stands didn’t open till 2020, causing more people to be late.
- wendyb42900Do itA fantastic tour with a full explanation of the process and time frame of the architecture and engineering of this amazing building. Highly recommend this tour.
- jacquitohc00Magnificent 'sails', Iconic SydneyWalked the whole perimeter of the Opera House, Sydney's famous & iconic building. Magnificent 'sails' of the Opera House gleaming in the sunshine - just awe-inspiring. Enjoyed Harbour Bridge impressive views. On Manly ferry, had different stunning vistas from the ocean back towards the Opera House, also gorgeous dusk photos. We haven't been to Sydney in a long while - now revisit; we'll definitely be back soon.. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)

Everyone knows the iconic SOH from the outside but it is quite different on the inside. Definitely recommend a guided tour to understand how the SOH was created (design, funding, fabrication, etc.). Our tour guide was very knowledgable and insightful. The inside is very contemporary and smaller than I expected. Many design vs. functionality trade-off that are evident from the inside. We tried to see Six while we were in town but unfortunately it was sold out.

Dear ogerkan,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know your feedback on your recent visit. We're thrilled to hear that you found your tour guide to be knowledgeable and insightful. 'SIX' really was the hottest ticket in town and actually sold out the whole of its two month run before it had even opened!
We hope to see you again soon.
Kind regards,
Team SOH

The accessible guided backstage tour is designed for those who have difficulty with stairs. Ours was a small party with one guy in a powered wheelchair. Our two guides were very knowledgeable and looked after us very well. All travel between floors was by lifts. We saw the backstage areas, the small theatres as well as the concert hall and the Joan Sutherland Theatre. As the Joan Sutherland theatre was set up for 'West Side Story' after the tour finished my wife and I went to the booking office and bought tickets for that evening's performance. Bonus!

An hour ago I was finishing breakfast in the green room, after one of the best guided tours I've taken!
Don’t miss this tour if you really want to understand the development, history and day-to-day workings of the Sydney opera House.
We lucked out with a wonderful guide Bella, who is so informative, attentive and also a wonderful host during breakfast. Within the first five minutes she had memorized and could quickly use the names of any of the 12 of us.
The tour delivers all that is promised in terms of seeing the orchestra pit, the ballet and opera theatre, other theatres, backstage areas, rehearsal area, the giant lifts and the storage areas, the dressing rooms, with all those other little absorbing details Mixed in provided by Bella

Tour started on time and was paced perfect factual and informative with just the right amount of time to see the sights and hear the legacy of this World Heritage site.
Inaugurated in 1973, the Sydney Opera House is a great architectural work of the 20th century that brings together multiple strands of creativity and innovation in both architectural form and structural design. A great urban sculpture set in a remarkable waterscape, at the tip of a peninsula projecting into Sydney Harbour

My wife and I didn't really know what to expect. Frankly we aren't theatre people and don't really have a grasp of what happens behind the scenes, so this was really an eye opener for us. We were so impressed with the entire operations of the Opera House below the floors and behind the scenes. This is one giant, constantly moving operation. I was blown away at how they get the sets moved around and keep so many plays, shows and performances happening at the same time.
So even if you're not a theatre person take this tour. You will never look at a play or performance the same again - and you'll be seeing behind the scenes of the most impressive theatre/opera house in the world.

Behind the scenes, informative and worthwhile tour. Cannot imagine how the original designer of the Opera House must have felt when he was removed from the project. His perfect vision had all but vanished. I was so very glad to learn that in his 80's he was asked to make one of the rooms his entire project. He did so without every having seen it. Politics plays such a nasty role across the entire globe, unfortunately.
Much to my daughter's and my delight, we had tickets for Carmen the same day as our tour and we were absolutely intrigued and pleased beyond all expectations, knowing the rich history of the Sydney Opera House.

The iconic Opera house looks beautiful during the day or at night.
it has a various plays/musicals inside it during the week, check the website for ongoing plays or shows.
The harbor along has many restaurant/cafes/bars bustling with people.
A great place to visit, eat and get pictures with the backdrop of the Opera house or the Bridge.

Ok, I’m going to give you some free advice. If you really want the best out of your experience at the opera house, go and book yourself into see a show. It doesn’t even have to be something that you are really into, but it gives you a much better appreciation for the building.
Such great history. An iconic building that I can now tick off my bucket list.

We were able to see how the different theaters functioned, stand on a stage, and learn the intricate details of changing the sets during a performance. The good breakfast was an extra treat. Be aware there are lots of stairs.

Dear Nousername77,
The Backstage Tour is a great way to get an insight into how the Sydney Opera House runs behind the scenes. It's interesting to see how it all comes together when it's showtime. We are delighted you enjoyed the breakfast in the green room at the end of the tour to recharge.
There are a number of stairs involved in the Backstage Tour, so we advise to bring comfortable walking shoes along.

The tour of the Opera house allows you to get close to the design and history and construction of the building. It was interesting to see the various spaces within the building but more interesting was the details regarding the construction. A must visit when in Sydney.

If you take this tour, do you need to do the regular opera house tour as well or do you see everything also included in that tour? Thanks

No need for the regular tour if you take the backstage tour. There are many stairs to navigate - so do wear sturdy flat shoes.

Does the 2.5 hour time of the Sydney Opera House Backstage tour include the time spent eating breakfast? Is the meal served at 09:30 or earlier along? I suppose I was trying to get a ballpark of what time we might expect to need onward transportation. Thank you for the help as we plan our day!

2.5 hours includes the time spent eating breakfast. Breakfast was about 30 minutes at the end of the tour.
