About
It's time for Canberra's secrets to come out of the closet. Led by an extremely passionate local queer guide, this tour takes you to some of the key sites where queer Canberrans shaped history. Stand where barriers were broken, and rights won. Feel the legacy of those who fought for our freedoms. This walking tour is a celebration of the unsung heroes who forever changed the social fabric of our city (and had fun and fell in love along the way!). So, get your facts straight and your history queer on this LGBTQ+ history tour. Book today for an unforgettable experience that connects, educates, and inspires. She Shapes History is a queer-owned and -operated business. All our LGBTQIA+ History Tours are led by a queer guide.

    Fantastic use of two hours
On Saturday afternoon I spent two hours of an amazing Canberra autumn afternoon following Eleri for the limited-edition 'Love in the Capital' walking tour. The pace was gentle enough for a pudgy middle-aged public servant to easily keep up as we ambled from the Hyatt to the Hotel Kurrajong, stopping frequently to be told quite astonishing (and on rare occasion, sweet) stories about prominant historical political figures, their paramours and peccadillos and sometimes even their long, happy marriages. It was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and to see more of Canberra that I just haven't got around to exploring by myself in over 20 years. Absolutely recommend and will be signing up for one of the regular tours in the near future.

    Getting history right
Very interesting, amusing & sometimes shocking historical account of our Canberra political history, with a feminist flavour and delivered in a delightful manner, surrounded by well known buildings and parks of our beautiful National Triangle. My second tour and will do more!

    Shhhhh! 🥸
We loved this walking tour - my cis-male partner included. It was well paced, and spilled some serious tea. I’ve lived in Canberra for over ten years and thought I was pretty clued up on all our little secrets, turns out I have much more to learn. The booking process was easy, and the meeting instructions clear and concise. Pro tip: arrive at the national archives a little bit early for a cuppa and a chocolate digestive beforehand.

What an amazing gift I received! I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!!
What an amazing gift I received! I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!! The She Shapes History Badass Women of Canberra Tour bought the Parliamentary Triangle, Canberra and our Nations history to life. This is how we should be learning our history. It was a privilege to share in this knowledge and relate this to the personal stories of the women we know and love. We were so lucky to have Millie as our guide, she is an amazing woman! Her care, knowledge and enthusiasm was fabulous to be a part of. We learnt so much and left wanting more. We headed to the bunker at West Block on the way home for a look and have looked into a few things, i.e., Googled more information, since our tour. This tour reminded us of a tour we did in Berlin over 20 years ago. We still share the stories today and have been telling, and will continue to tell, everyone about the @sheshapeshistory Badass Women of Canberra Tour! Looking forward to now booking the Women in Espionage Tour and then writing to the @nca_gov_au to enquire about their progress on the repairs and updating of the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage Commemorative Fountain…

Fun, informative and well organised. Interesting way to engage with the history of Australian politics and hear about the role of women in our democracy. The guide was engaging and a good story teller.

    Essential tour in Canberra
This tour is essential for Canberra. Definitely one of the top things to do. You learn many different facts and women in History and history of Australia. One of the things I loved was the enthusiasm the tour guide had and explained everything to us. Worth doing this tour.

Tash was such an engaging guide to follow along the streets of Canberra. She was such an amazing storyteller and also looked after us by finding us shady spots on a hot day. It was a nice stroll, not too strenuous, that ended at a great hotel to stop for an afternoon snack and drink. Thanks Tash for letting us in on all of Canberra's secrets!

    Something different
Such a great way to spend a couple of hours, walking some of the streets in the old part of Canberra, listening to fascinating stories of 'Women in Espionage' related by an articulate and personable Eliza. Highly recommended!

Such a friendly and fun group on the tour and Zev was such an amazing tour guide. I learnt so much and I feel like there’s a lot more to learn. Thanks so much for creating such an inclusive tour that allows gender diverse as well as cis people to learn more about LGBTQI+ community and what it was like back then and how far we came today. Be out and be proud !! Thanks She Shapes History. I’ll def recommend to my friends and family.
