About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- laura3lizabeth0 contributionsVery enjoyableHad a great time - it was so interesting to hear about women spies. I had no idea!! Millie was an excellent guide, and I definitely enjoyed hearing about Nancy at the end of the tour!Written 22 February 2025
- JannemiekeH0 contributionsLove and politicsValentine’s Day tour: LOVE IN THE CITY We joined Eleri from SSH for the “Love In The City “ tour which is only organised around Valentine’s Day from 7.30pm-9.30pm. The tour starts with a glass of wine in the garden of the historical hotel the Hyatt, where many Liberal politicians and prime-ministers used to live during their stays in Canberra. Eleri is a very knowledgeable and well spoken tour leader and a born story teller. Having a degree in History and Journalism and working as a Cartoonist, she painted us a picture of how women in their roles of wifes, lovers, co-workers and often professionals with their own careers, helped to shape the political careers of prime ministers and other political historical figures and influenced the history of Australia. Because of these stories in context of the place where it all happened and the vivid way Eleri told them to us, it all came alive for me. And made more sense to me. The tour ended at the Kurrajong Hotel which was the home of many of the Labor prime ministers and politicians. We would love to sign up to the other tours when we return to Canberra. We can highly recommend joining one of the tours of She Shaped History!Written 15 February 2025
- AShapiera0 contributionsTwo hours of fun and learningWe really enjoyed the tour. Great guides and great content. Would highly recommend to learn about our espionage history and the role women played.Written 8 February 2025
- robynrU4585IT0 contributionsExcellent experienceClearly researched and facts conveyed to the group in a very easily digestible and interesting manner. Short walks between stops. So much history within a few blocks. Designed to explore the impact each event had on shaping Australian politics and history.Written 2 February 2025
- Cindy G0 contributionsI spySita our guide was a wonderful raconteur and a passionate historian and Canbassador. The tour was well paced and very informative. Possibly some photos in a folder of some of the characters would have been helpful particularly for younger participants but nevertheless a great and informative experienceWritten 2 February 2025
- somedays_i_am0 contributions5 Star tourI did a tour with Millie as part of a small work group. Not being from the Capital, it was a wonderful way to get some insights into the city and some of our nation’s lesser known history. Content was really engaging and Millie was an excellent and passionate storyteller. 5 stars!Written 15 December 2024
- AnnMrdch0 contributionsAmazing tales of espionageJust adored this tour with Tash. Her stories were wondefully told and I adored hearing about this aspect of Canberra. Totally recommend this experience.Written 10 December 2024
- Dinosaur20220 contributionsDefs recommendGreat walk! Learned a lot about the 1950's-1970's canberra history, world history, spy history. The walk is not too strenuous as it is primarily around the 'triangle' in Canberra. Tash, our guide, was a great narrator and very enthusiastic. Definetly recommend and got a few free stickers at the end :)Written 20 October 2024
- V4042OEsams0 contributionsHighly recommendInformative and engaging tour, that showed a new side of Canberra. Absolutely recommend to Canberrans and tourists alike.Written 10 October 2024
- Tracey P0 contributionsEngaging, entertaining and enlightening - and I am not worried about ASIO at all (I think….)The best guided tour I’ve been on (and that’s a fair few!). Sita is passionate about sharing her knowledge and does so in a warm, enthusiastic and engaging manner. She connected us with the people and places she was talking about, helping us understand what their history and motivations were. We visited a variety of places on the easy walk (no hill climbs) and the two hours flew by. Thanks Sita for sharing your knowledge so freely about espionage in Australia - I just wish ASIO hadn’t done the same! Oops! Now I’ll have a file on me!Written 14 September 2024
- Jennifer D0 contributionsShhh, they may be watching!!!A deep dive into the history of ASIO when it was established in the 1950s right through to the 1970s. Our young female guides detailed specific accounts of the roles unheralded women played in foiling and protecting Australia,s security from the Russians . Who would have thought sleepy old Canberra could provide so much excitement. Don’t just go the High court , National Galley or Questacon in Canberra . The spies aren’t there ; they are waiting for you on this tour.Written 28 August 2024
- J9669DNdavidr0 contributionsCanberra decodedWhat a fantastic way to spend an afternoon! We spent a sunny Saturday taking the Spies in the Capital tour. They say history is written by the victor but it is also often only told by the loudest voice. She Shapes History challenges that. Sita and Tash were engaging and their enthusiasm for sharing overlooked perspectives was infectious. We had a fantastic time, learnt lots and discovered some hidden gems from the past. Sometimes an outside voice see a need for change and fights to make things better. You could say that Sita is the Molly Sasson of historical walking tours. If you don’t know what that means, you’ll just have to take the tour.Written 24 August 2024
- j0annetracey0 contributionsWatch out for the spies!A great afternoon of walking, hearing stories and snippets from spies in Canberra. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide, encouraging lots of interaction.Written 16 August 2024

We absolutely loved the “Women of Canberra Walking Tour”.Our wonderful guide gave us insights into the fascinating and less well-known lives, activities and achievements of some extraordinary women who have been instrumental in bringing about positive change. The tour was interactive and was linked to the buildings, sculptures and statues we were passing. The time passed so quickly and we were left with a much deeper understanding and appreciation of Canberra and the women who have figured in its history.

Rain didn't stop us from thoroughly enjoying the Badass Women of Canberra tour with Millie. First of all, Millie is an incredible story teller who brings history to life with such passion. Hearing some of the stories of the creation of Canberra as we know it, including influential women who shaped the development including Marion Mahony Griffin, was incredibly inspiring. And this was just the start. I would thoroughly recommend this walking tour to anyone interested in Australian history, politics and female history in general

She Shapes History, Badass Women of Canberra Walking Tour is a great addition to Canberra’s tourism offerings and one I would recommend highly. Eleri was a knowledgeable and engaging guide, and we were fortunate to have She Shape’s History’s inspiring founder, Sita, on the tour. Even if you think you know Canberra well, this tour will surprise you with little-known - but important - stories about the city and our country. Congratulations to Eleri on an insightful and entertaining tour!

It was absolutely pelting down and we didnt know what we were going to do but Milly just took control and made the best of the situation. We popped the umbrellas and she found sheltered areas for us where she imparted her incredible knowledge and then when there was a break in the weather, we moved to the next location. When the weather became too bad we ordered Ubers and went to the beautiful Kurrajong Hotel for a drink and for Milly to finish her stories with us. Milly is so knowledgeable and a wonderful story teller. I will definitely do this tour again with Milly in fine weather to take in the sites in more detail.

She Shapes History is an outstanding tour, brilliantly delivered by Sita, whose passion for and knowledge of this neglected and vital topic is completely engrossing and inspiring. May She Shapes History blaze its way into Australian schools, workplaces, and other sites of learning and nation building- they can't afford to avoid it!

Sita was a terrific tour guide with extensive knowledge of the women who featured in the Badass Tour and explaining their role in Australias history from a female perspective. We learnt a lot about the tenacity and commitment of these women who were trail blazers and forged a way forward for all women. Highly recommend this tour for an insight into real history.

What an amazing gift I received! I can’t recommend this tour highly enough!!
The She Shapes History Badass Women of Canberra Tour bought the Parliamentary Triangle, Canberra and our Nations history to life. This is how we should be learning our history. It was a privilege to share in this knowledge and relate this to the personal stories of the women we know and love.
We were so lucky to have Millie as our guide, she is an amazing woman! Her care, knowledge and enthusiasm was fabulous to be a part of.
We learnt so much and left wanting more. We headed to the bunker at West Block on the way home for a look and have looked into a few things, i.e., Googled more information, since our tour.
This tour reminded us of a tour we did in Berlin over 20 years ago. We still share the stories today and have been telling, and will continue to tell, everyone about the @sheshapeshistory Badass Women of Canberra Tour!
Looking forward to now booking the Women in Espionage Tour and then writing to the @nca_gov_au to enquire about their progress on the repairs and updating of the Centenary of Women’s Suffrage Commemorative Fountain…

I did the badass women of history tour today with my mum and mother in law and we all had a blast. My mum just moved to Canberra, I've been here a couple years and my mother in law is a true local. We each loved it and learnt new fascinating stories about women in Canberra who impacted Australian history. I would recommend this tour to people visiting Canberra for the first time who want to see the national landmarks in a unique way, as well as locals who have been here for years and want to see their home in a new light. Our guide, Sita, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She got everyone engaged and having a laugh. She also had a huge wealth of information. I got the impression that, even with all our extra questions and chatting, we only scraped the surface of what she knows about Australia and women's history. I can't wait to try out the other tours by She Shapes History and bring all my friends who visit to do this tour.

This was a wonderful introduction to the role of women in the history of Canberra, and by extension Australia. Sita was a friendly, informative and passionate guide who really brought the subject to life. The tour packed an amazing amount into only 2 hours, yet proceeded at a manageable pace with plenty of opportunities to sit down for those needing a break. As a cherry on top we were all given a QR code with links to more detailed information on the subject - all tours should do something like this, as it gives the interested person the ability to dive deeper into the subject. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Canberra or Australia.
