One of the best walking tours I’ve done
Great tour with an absolutely fantastic guide. I’ve taken lots of walking tours and this is one of my favourites. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in learning more about Canberra’s incredible queer history.

    Amazing!
Sita runs an amazing tour that provides some of the history you weren't taught at school. It was great to learn more about my city in a fun way.

    Don’t miss this tour.
Value for money, fabulous hosts and an interesting way to see Canberra. Highly recommend this tour. Would also recommend a beverage at the Kingston Hotel at the last stop.

    Hidden History Comes Alive
A lot of Canberra history is 'big', public moments in big, public places. This tour dealt with events at a much more intimate, human scale and events that were often (but not always) hidden from public view. The lack of such big backdrops requires a skilled storyteller, and with Zev we had that and much more. They brought a passion and connection to the subject. Not everyone can breathe life into a window, a park, a tennis court or the site of a building long gone. Zev was able to do just this. While this is a must do for anyone interested in queer history, it is just as fascinating for people who want to know about the parts of history that are less well known but every bit as interesting.

A walk in wisdom - propagating the oral histories of our nation through an engaging & knowledgeable storyteller. 5 stars
Sita was a great tour guide, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The walk was gentle. I would recommend a hat for shade

More history you haven't heard before
My fourth She Shapes History tour, but my first one learning about the LGBTQIA+ History of Canberra. Zev is an excellent guide - informative, entertaining and inclusive. Their knowledge of the knowledge of Canberra's LGBTQIA+ history, paired with personal insights and anecdotes, made for an enjoyable and interesting couple of hours. Thanks Zev and the She Shapes History team 🏳‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

    Enjoyable tour with good people
Friendly tour guide and an engaging tour. The nature of the tour is that it attracts a like minded group, which was enjoyable as a solo traveler.

Fascinating info, stroll through beautiful Canberra streets
Really enjoyed this tour. A nice pace to wander the Canberra streets, really knowledgeable and approachable guide (Sita) and fascinating information to learn. The size of the group was about 15-20 people. I've lived in Canberra more than 20 years but still learned so many new things. I plan to take visitors along with me next time. Ended at the Kingo pub, so you can plan to finish with a relaxing drink.

How the Cold War touched Canberra
Loved the topic and the easy walk through the streets to our final destination. You got a real sense of how the cold war was as far reaching as Australia. Very informed and engaging guide.

Interesting stories of the women spies and a walk around the areas that involved them
Great tour with lots of interesting information delivered excellently by Tash - especially as it was her first one! Easy pace and would recommend for locals and tourists alike.

A wonderful view of history and people of Canberra and Australia
The walking tour on a beautiful Canberra Spring day showed the "back" story to ASIO and "spying" in Australia. The beginnings of the organisation and in particular the women involved or spied upon show the change in Australia's political and social concerns since before the second world war. It also links to some of the buildings and lets you see some of the architectural aspects of Canberra. The walk was a couple of kilometres with regular stops and the terrain not difficult and took two hours. A hat and some water would be useful on a sunny day. Our guide was happy to answer questions and engage in discussion. The group size was less than 20 and very manageable. A different way to see and learn about Canberra.

    A Fun Tour
The guise Sita, was very entertaining and kept the tour moving along. It was fascinating to hear about these women wha mostly are totally unrecognised in history books but contributed in many significant ways.

The parliamentary triangle lends itself beautifully to this walking tour. ‘She Shapes History’ is a relatively new business run by a passionate Canberra woman trying to highlight the fascinating role women have played in the development of our national capital. So much to see and learn about in such a small but picturesque area. Lucy was our guide and even though it was only her second ever time running the tour, she did a fantastic job. Probably not a winner for small children but great for anyone over 12 or so.

It was absolutely pelting down and we didnt know what we were going to do but Milly just took control and made the best of the situation. We popped the umbrellas and she found sheltered areas for us where she imparted her incredible knowledge and then when there was a break in the weather, we moved to the next location. When the weather became too bad we ordered Ubers and went to the beautiful Kurrajong Hotel for a drink and for Milly to finish her stories with us. Milly is so knowledgeable and a wonderful story teller. I will definitely do this tour again with Milly in fine weather to take in the sites in more detail.

A wonderful experience! The tour is shaped around truly interesting stories, whereas past events are tied to current ones, so that I took tons of insights from this walking tour. Also, Lucy, and the whole group really, was kind enough to provide contexts to stories/anecdotes/jokes for me, the European, which is why I can definitely recommend this tour to any visitors, too.
Lucy was a great guide, with a wonderfully bubbly personality, loads of knowledge and genuine interest in the stories she shares.

Sita started the tour by sharing that one of the reasons she founded She Shapes History was to answer the question –“Where are the women in the story of Australia?” Well, by the end of our two hour tour, I could tell you exactly where they were – all over in Canberra! She Shapes History brings to the forefront and celebrates the stories of women from all walks of life. This was such an interesting and unique way to see a city. It shared a history that most tours don’t cover. And it was also just so much fun! I wish there was a She Shapes History tour in every Australian city!! Thanks Sita for an incredible Saturday. I'll be back soon!

Absolutely loved every minute of this tour! Sita was so knowledgeable, and her humour & enthusiasm made it really fun & interesting. Not just for women, the tour covered a range of topics to interest everyone (housewife spies, underwater cities and secret bunkers, to name a few of the things you may learn about). If it’s a sunny day, don’t forget a hat & suncream!

I did the badass women of history tour today with my mum and mother in law and we all had a blast. My mum just moved to Canberra, I've been here a couple years and my mother in law is a true local. We each loved it and learnt new fascinating stories about women in Canberra who impacted Australian history. I would recommend this tour to people visiting Canberra for the first time who want to see the national landmarks in a unique way, as well as locals who have been here for years and want to see their home in a new light. Our guide, Sita, was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. She got everyone engaged and having a laugh. She also had a huge wealth of information. I got the impression that, even with all our extra questions and chatting, we only scraped the surface of what she knows about Australia and women's history. I can't wait to try out the other tours by She Shapes History and bring all my friends who visit to do this tour.

This was a wonderful introduction to the role of women in the history of Canberra, and by extension Australia. Sita was a friendly, informative and passionate guide who really brought the subject to life. The tour packed an amazing amount into only 2 hours, yet proceeded at a manageable pace with plenty of opportunities to sit down for those needing a break. As a cherry on top we were all given a QR code with links to more detailed information on the subject - all tours should do something like this, as it gives the interested person the ability to dive deeper into the subject. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in the history of Canberra or Australia.

Sita was super friendly and professional. Learned a lot about Australian history and the important role women played in shaping the country. I was really happy to see there was a tour highlighting the contributions of women and also the systemic barriers that aren't often talked about. Special consideration was given to representing Aboriginal women and other women of colour too. Would highly recommend.

I can't remember how I found out about the Badass Women of Canberra tour - possibly via social media - but I booked it for me and my wife as soon as I learned about it. We were not disappointed. Lucy, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and incredibly articulate. I thought I might learn a thing or two but in the end I learned A LOT. Out of roughly 25 people, I was the only bloke, which was disappointing, as it definitely covers ground that everyone should know. I would happily do another of their tours.
