    What to Expect
Get picked up by your guide at your central Lisbon hotel for your private day trip to Évora and Almendres Cromlech. Hop into your air-conditioned minivan and begin your journey to Évora. During your hour drive, learn about this 2,000-year-old UNESCO World Heritage town and its preserved Roman city center.

In Évora, hop out and stroll the cobblestone roads as you make your way toward the medieval Cathedral of Évora of and its cloisters. Enter the 12th century church and ascend to the roof for magnificent countryside views.

Continue to the famous Temple of Diana, a Roman monument that honors the 1st century emperor of Rome, Augustus. Follow your guide into the Church of St Francis and discover the Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos). See the walls decorated with human bones and skulls creating an eerily mysterious ambiance.

Enjoy a tasty lunch (own expense) and then drive to Tourega Villa. At this ancient Roman farm, learn about the processes used for agriculture two millennia ago. Next, weave your way through olive and cork trees to the 6,000-year-old Anta Grande do Zambujeiro (Great Dolmen of Zambujeiro). Marvel at the oldest megalithic monument on the Iberian peninsula.

Finally, see the wondrous Almendres Cromlech. As you admire one of the largest existing assembly of menhirs in Europe learn how this site is believed to be one of mankind’s first monuments. Amble around and listen to your guide tell tales of how Almendres Cromlech may have been used for sacred rituals and as a primitive astronomical observatory.

After finishing your tour of Almendres Cromlech, return to your Lisbon hotel where your tour ends.

First thing this trip was great. They made it very easy by picking us up and delivering us to our home. The driver was very informed and passionate about the subject. Everything was perfect for me. I sat in the front seat because I get motion sick but the people in the third

This was expensive tour; I think we paid around $90 each. There are other tours that will get you to Evora for less, but I'm guessing this cost so much because we also went to the Almendres Cromlech too. There was no way a bus could ride on the roads that we had to take to get

We very much enjoyed our tour with Rui, who thoroughly and clearly explained to us what we were seeing and made the history of Portugal come alive, all the back to neolithic times. Very highly recommended.
