Overview
Explore the fascinating world of active volcanism, biological diversity and past and present Hawaiian culture at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Start at the world-famous Kona Coffee Farm for a deli-style lunch, then visit Punalu'u Beach to look for sea turtles. After arriving at the park, learn about everything from active volcanic craters and steam vents to the historic Jagger Museum. Enjoy dinner at Volcano Winery, featuring a private tour with wine tasting, then watch for current activity at Kilauea Volcano, the most active of the five volcanoes in Hawaii.
What to Expect

The original evening volcano adventure and still the best! Travel south into Kona coffee country for the first stop at Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park. Before coffee there was kapu, the ancient Hawaiian system of laws. Should a person break kapu and face almost certain death they could make their way to a place of refuge and be absolved. Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park is one of those places of refuge. Explore this historic 420 acre Park with your National Park Service-trained guide and see temple platforms, fishponds, and remnants of ancient life in Hawaii. Next, head up to Bay View Farm, a working 24 acre coffee farm nestled on the slopes of Mauna Loa Volcano just above beautiful Kealakekua Bay and known for the best Kona coffee since 1984. Here you’ll see coffee growing on the trees and learn about the various steps and processes in making coffee, all of which happen right here on the farm. You’ll sample 100% Kona Coffee along with a deli-style lunch at a gorgeous overlook with stunning views of Kealakekua Bay and the monument to Captain Cook standing on the only sliver of British land in the United States. The adventure continues after a quick stop at the famous Painted Church as you head through the South Kona and Ka’u Districts. Stunning views, alternating between stark lava flows and Hawaiian dry forest, are visible through the huge picture windows of your tour vehicle. We stop briefly at Punalu’u Bake Shop, the southern most bakery in America. Offering the finest time-honored Hawaiian sweetbreads since 1991, the Bake Shop offers an array of breads and cookies. Shortly thereafter, you’ll arrive at picturesque Punalu’u Black Sand Beach. Lined with swaying coconut palm trees, this is one of the best black sand beaches on the island. Stroll along the beach and look for honu (Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles) feeding just offshore or sun-worshipping on the sand. Then it’s on to the famous Volcano Winery, the southernmost winery in the United States. You’ll sample up to eight different types of wines, varying from sweet to dry, and all with a unique Hawaiian flare. The Volcano Winery also has estate grown teas to taste and soft drinks and water are also included. After sampling beverages, you’ll enjoy a hearty Hawaiian-style BBQ lunch with a complimentary glass of your choice of Volcano Winery wine or other beverage.   Complete the day viewing the current volcanic eruption if it’s available from a safe distance before returning.

Great Tour With Marcus

Marcus hosted a fascinating tour which culminated with exceptional star gazing! Only regret is that the threat of Hurricane Hector caused the black sand beach to be closed and the volcano decided to rest while we were in Kona. Marcus was exceptional despite mother nature...More

Great tour!

This tour was a lot of fun, even though we did the tour in mid June 2018, so we couldn't go into Volcano National Park because it was closed. Nevertheless, we drove close enough to view lava spurting from fissure 8 (at a safe distance...More

Enjoyable Day with a Great Guide

Their expert guide (and our driver) Kent picked my wife and me up at Wyndham Royal Sea Cliff (Kailua-Kona) early in the morning. He began the visit and tour comments at once as he drove about 30 minutes up the coast to Waikoloa Village to...More
