About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- jodB8780CU0 contributionsFabulous dayI would highly recommend this tour. We saw a good variety of places, spent a few hours in Hawaii Volcano National Park. Included lunch and dinner were good. Todd (our guide extraordinaire) was great, with many stories and facts imparted to us throughout the day. Finished with some amazing star-gazing just below the peak of Muana Loa through a huge (yet portable) telescope. Raincoats and umbrellas were provided when it was wet and warm jackets were provided for stargazing (when it was quite chilly)Written 15 March 2024
- U2508CCdebbieg0 contributionsAwesome Day OutI highly recommend Wasabi tours, I did the waterfalls tour. I loved that it was a small group and our guide, Dreu was so much fun, he had a lot to say about waterfalls, volcanoes, island history and much more. It was an excellent day with lots of great memories to take away.Written 11 March 2024
- andrewsX2458ZM0 contributionsAmazing Hawaii ToursWe did two tours with Wasabi. Volcanos tour and waterfall tour. Both tour guides were very good and super interesting. Waterfall tour was my favorite and dreu (tour guide) was amazing. Super funny and knowledgeable. I highly suggest the Wasabi tours.Written 11 March 2024

- O2102MBsabrinah0 contributionsVolcanoes and Star-Gazing TourAn absolutely wonderful tour! This was the highlight of our time on the Big Island. We got to experience a Kona Coffee Farm and learn about the process! We enjoyed multiple stops within the Volcano National Park which was stunning. Our guide had such a wide range of knowledge, we were truly impressed. Then to top it all off the stargazing portion of the tour vastly exceeded my expectations! My boyfriend chose this tour because he was excited about seeing the stars, but I did not expect all of the information that would be included in that portion. Our guide let us all use his telescope to get up-close views of the moon and of Jupiter! (Perhaps this varies based on time of year?) And he shared information about the different constellations that were visible to the naked eye. Absolutely wonderful!Written 5 March 2024
- L3054WOmichaelg0 contributionsAwesome volcanoes tourThis tour was one of the most memorable tours my wife and I have ever taken. Aside from being extremely knowledgeable in everything Hawaii, our tour guide Derek Stuart was very engaging and kept all of the tour participants entertained and informed throughout the entire tour. My wife and I would highly recommend the Twilight Volcano and Stargazing tour to anyone, and we would specifically recommend Derek as your tour guide.Written 2 March 2024
- Seaside211961600480 contributionsVolcanoes and stargazing are otherworldly!Wow what an experience! Our guide, Todd, had such extensive knowledge of the volcanic earth and celestial bodies - so gorgeous and mind blowing! From scorched lava fields to rain forest lava tube to finding a perfectly clear sky on an otherwise rainy night! We were so fortunate to see a nearly full moon in all its detail thanks to Todd and his Newtonian reflector telescope. A completely unique experience.Written 2 March 2024
- Seaside211961600480 contributionsGet out into the wild! Waterfalls plus Tropical BioreserveSpend a day out in the wilds of Hawaiian waterfalls and tropical bioreserve. Our guide, Derek, has lead tours all over the world and brings such a sense of fun and adventure that he had our whole group participating in the joy and adventure of it all. Our highlight was the private waterfall where we all jumped in - and Derek jumps right in with you! Just go for it!Written 2 March 2024
- sherrypZ9921XG0 contributionsVolcano & Stargazing on Hawaii IslandDerek Stuart was our guide for the day. He was an excellent example of what people expect when taking a 12 hour tour. He was very knowledgeable and provided almost nonstop insight about The various things we were seeing and doing. He knows so much about volcanoes and the Lava that comes from them. The Stargazing was breathtaking. I have never seen so many stars in the in the sky. He did a great job of pointing out everyone’s favorite stars and constellations as well as helping people identify constellations with their cell phones. He was considerate of everyone’s needs and helped them get the things they needed. He is a valuable asset for his employer. I Hope they realize what they have. Thank you Derek. He was a great driver and he had great people skills and a desire to tell us everything that he could about the volcanoes , the stargazing, and about the island of Hawaii. I would highly recommend him. He had an immense amount of knowledge that he shared with us to make our day an incredible experience. What a great way to end our short stay in Kona!! Lunch was great!! Dinner also great!! What a beautiful day.Written 2 March 2024
- G5993IHsteveh0 contributionsVolcano and Stargazing Experience of a LifetimeOur Tour Guide for this Amazing Stuart, who along with all Hawaii has to offer provided our group with the most one of a kind, once in a lifetime experience. The booking, communication, timing and coordination was perfect. We were able to see all that we could have imagined and more, from travel, Kona Coffee Farm, Punalu’u Bake Shop, The Volcano National Park, Lava, and Stargazing. The Best part was our Knowledgeable Guide, Derek Stuart, with his wealth of information regarding the history, background, and funny wit explaining all that we experienced. Luck was also on our side as we saw the most magnificent complete Rainbow and a sky filled with incredible stars of which Derek knew everything about including providing us with special apps on our phones. To say that Derek made our day and experience would be an understatement. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone, well worth the cost.Written 2 March 2024
- danieljN6654PP0 contributionsAn amazing tour of natureOne of the best tours I've ever been on (and that's out of 85 countries visited). Our expedition guide- Todd is superb, a fountain of knowledge on so many fields- Hawaiian culture, history and astronomy, and was a joy to have a chat with. The tour includes pickup, bottles of water, coffee tasting/plantation tour, beach visit, Kilauea's caldera, dinner and finally some stargazing (wrap up warm). I'll definitely be back in Hawaii, and I look forward to taking the Mauna Kea tour with WasabiWritten 1 March 2024
- annsX3542NX0 contributionsAbsolutely worth the time & the money!!This was my 4th trip to this island but the first for my friend so I felt it was imperative for her to experience the Big Island Grand Circle Tour. The beauty of the Big Island is so amazing and this tour provided an opportunity to see most of the highlights of the island. We are no longer "spring chickens" but were able to handle most of the walking portions fairly easily. The provided lunch was good. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages kept us hydrated. Our guide, Henry, was excellent. He has an obvious passion for this island. His knowledge of the island's history was exemplary. His wit and compassion were a refreshing change from some other tours I've taken. Well done, Wasabi Tours!!Written 28 February 2024
- dpmurphysr0 contributionsThe highlight of our tripBummer Brah, dis wun shud hav 6 stars! That's my best Dreu interpretation. Three words - Take This Tour! Three more words - Ask For Dreu. Absolutely outstanding tour. The highlight (well almost) of our entire trip, second only to George and Paula's engagement, which also took place on the tour, was the spectacular Black Sand beach and resident Honu (look it up). BTW Congrats you two! We did so many things, saw so many sights, learned AND experienced so much Hawaiian culture. I could list a dozen and forget a dozen more. As the tour was ending and Dreu reviewed our day, I was amazed at how much we covered. Fantastic, Memorable, Great Fun, the list goes on. Did I say take this tour? It's one you won't regret and never forget.Written 27 February 2024
- paulatQ3906NS0 contributionsBest tour guided experienceThis was a great tour with lots of things to see and experience but our tour guide Dreu, just made the experience so much more enjoy with his knowledge and humor. I highly recommend the volcano/stargazing tour. Well worth the money.Written 25 February 2024

Brian was an amazing tour guide today. We really had a great time and he was very informative and patient with our questions. He should be commended for a job well done and we would recommend him for any Wasabi tour of The big island of Hawaii.

Derrick has a passion on this job. He is a great tour guide, consistently narrating the history stories throughout the time on the bus. The tour itself is kinda too lengthy to me, but I guess a lot of people will think it’s worthy the price

I have done a couple of these “island in a day” tours for multiple islands, and can tell you Wasabi Tours is one of the best! Mia (our guide), was AMAZING! She’s an allstar and I would recommend asking when she is touring if you want a true local. She grew up on the island and is incredibly knowledgeable about the island’s history, including Hawaiian legends, and transformation of the landscape over the past couple decades.
This tour was well worth the money if you are trying to have an action packed day to see all the things - everything from coffee, malasadas (Portuguese donuts), black sand beach, lava fields, volcano craters, lava tube (cave), rainforest, waterfalls and dramatic cliff side views to end your day. The tour picks up early in the morning (at your hotel or close by) and drops you off about 12 hours later in the same spot. You receive lunch during the tour typically around the beach stop (teriyaki chicken bento box). Mia was also prepared for everything - complimentary water/juices, umbrellas, rain jackets, sunscreen, first aid kit, etc. We felt very taken care of during our time with her on this tour.
Highly recommend this company for this tour and I am confident you will receive the same experience with any of their other tours!

From our first stop in the morning, a Kona coffee plantation with free sampling, to our last, star-gazing at the night sky on rural point, Dreu filled every moment of the all-day tour with his enthusiastic far-ranging knowledge of his beloved Big Island. We had a delicious lunch at a famous island bakery and deli and dinner at a picturesque tavern near the national volcano park.
And believe me, Dreu saw to it that we were able to work up an appetite with walking excursions to a black beach and a wondrous short hike around the volancoes, including a fantastic lava cave.
We went through a lot of climate changes in one day and Dreu was prepared with gear for all of us. And the enormous store of facts, stats and island lore he has command of is phenomenal. A day with Dreu gives us the optimal Big Island experience.

This is a fantastic way to start your vacation on Big Island! Our guide, Brian, was so knowledgeable—it blew my mind. He was also hilarious and his jokes were wonderful and comforting. The van was super comfortable and the stops were breathtaking. The stops also lasted the perfect amount of time. Wasabi has definitely mastered the art of putting as much into this trip without it being boring or overwhelming. Thanks so much Brian!

Our tour guide JJ was phenomenal and I heard everyone in the van say they were also very pleased with her sharing of history, cultural stories and fun facts, that kept us entertained and energized all day.
The tour was well organized so that we were on and off the bus at regular intervals. The lunch and snacks were delicious and the vehicle was comfortable.
Most of all our guide made the day fascinating and memorable.

We booked a private tour for 5 adults and 3 kids (7, 8, and 13) and chose the Big Island in a Day Tour (called the Circle Tour on their website), so we could get a little taste of an assortment of things on the big island. Dreu was amazing! He was so funny and charismatic. His love of people and his love of Hawaii really just shines. It was a long day, but everyone enjoyed the sights and we all loved hearing Dreu's stories. The day went quickly and we learned a lot. The tour had a nice mix of sights of great natural beauty and a few little places to stop and shop. The provided meal was tasty and they easily accommodated the pescatarian in our group. I highly recommend doing the tour during the early part of your vacation. You don't get much time at any one spot, but it's a great overview and can help you plan how you want to spend the rest of your vacation. Do you want more lush tropical places? More lava? More history? More malasadas? At the end of our trip, when we were talking about what we liked best, the 8 year old said that Dreu was one of his favorite parts of the trip, because he was so funny! He kept everyone in our group from 7 - 70 years old entertained for 12 hours. It was impressive. I will absolutely sign up for another tour if/when I get back to the big island!

Worth the time (and money) spent by taking this trip! Brian is an amazing tour guide full of knowledge and very personable! He kept everyone entertained with his knowledge of The Big Island and provided excellent recommendations to other attractions. At no time on this tour did myself or any member of my party feel unsafe with his driving or covid or anything else you could imagine. He reminded our group throughout the trip about the rules when it came to covid and turtles at the beach. He took his time to find volcano glass at the summit which was much appreciated. The passion Brian displays for Hawaiian history is shown through the many fun facts he gives along the full day trip. I can say that I enjoyed the sights of Hawaii and learned a lot of history along the way! Brian is truly an asset to the company! If you are able to take the tour with him, do it!

This was a great island look-over. Mia was an excellent guide. She is local and knows a great deal about the island. She didn't just take us there, but taught us good info about coffee growing detail at the plantation, about the lava phenomenon at the Nat'l Pk and all over the island. She gave us history about the Hawaiian Kings, and island history. Very informative. She gave us plenty of time to look at each stop- the stops are quick, but we were never rushed around even when there were lines somewhere. Bakery was absolutely YUMMY, I wish I would have bought another HI malasada treat for the next day. After sun in the morning, turning to clouds and then rain, we had the skies open up for a beautiful sunset on our way back. Mia pulled over for anyone to get a sunset pic. It was a great day. I highly recommend doing this directly with Wasabi as you get a small discount with them (not 3rd party, they wanted me to prove the discount info- I did and still didn't get it).

This tour was an amazing overview of the whole island. We only had a short time on the Big Island so we wanted to see as much as possible and this tour did just that. Our guide, Derek, was hands down our favorite guide we've had. He got everyone involved, told jokes, was extremely knowledgeable about the island and lore, and clearly has a passion for these experiences. The van was brand new and very comfortable even on the more bumpy roads and the lunch was surprisingly delicious. We would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone coming to the big island and our only regret was waiting until the last day of our trip to do it.

I was interested in booking this tour but I am pregnant. I noticed it says not recommended- is that because of the walking or driving? I am fairly fit but definitely don’t want to book the tour if it’s not safe! Is there a similar tour you recommend that is safer?

We didn’t research any other tours since this one was provided by our hotel. The most walking that we did was related to the volcano park, through the lava tube and also for one of the waterfalls. The walk through the rainforest to get get to the waterfall lookout was a bit steep at some points. On our tour, the amount of walking was not extremely difficult. Can’t speak for other tours or guides.
Hope this helps and that you enjoy your trip.
I will be on a cruise ship arriving at 8 am departing at 6 pm in Kona on May 13. The next day May 14 I will be arriving in Hilo at 8am departing at 6pm. I would love some help booking a trip for 2 both of these days to the National volcano park.

I think your cruise ship company might have information on the best 1/2 day trip from Hilo. The trip I took was all day long. BTW, there are also lava tubes to hike through in the National Park. I totally recommend it.
