My Lai massacre or Son My massacre was a war crimes committed by the US Army during the Vietnam War. In English document, this massacre is named My Lai Massacre, Son My Massacre or Pinkville, in which Pinkville is the name of the US military place name for My Lai area.
On March 16, 1968 in the area of My Lai village, in Son Tinh district, Quang Ngai province, units of US Army soldiers massacred lots of people without weapons, most of them are women and children.
This catastrophic event shocked the American, Vietnamese, and world public opinion, warmed up the anti-war movement and was one of the reasons for the withdrawal of US troops from Vietnam in the year 1972.
