- Y4916QEemilyj0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had an absolute blast on the Tully with Wildside Adventures, big shout out to Leon for his enthusiasm to teach us about the river and his clear and easy to follow advice about rafting. We felt totally safe and confident following Leon down the river. Definitely recommend the full day trip with this company if you want to get the hang of handling a raft yourself! Thanks team!!Written 21 September 2024

- 524gretaw0 contributionsAwesome half dayWe were two 72 year olds with good health and fair fitness. With great instruction we embarked on an awesome experience. Exhausted but still smiling even though we did fall out at one stage. But with the help from the instructor we were off and running again. Great experienceWritten 23 September 2023
- E7119LBaw0 contributionsGreat Rapids Adventures for FamilyIf you're looking for an exciting adventure for family with young kids in Cairns, I highly recommend Wildside Adventures. My experience with this company was truly great, and it was all thanks to our amazing coach team, John and Ashley, as well as the manager Allan, who had taken great effort and made arrangement for our family to make it happened. John and Ashley made us feel welcome and excited for the day ahead. They were experienced, friendly As we have young kids coming with us, they always put safety first. They made sure we were properly equipped with gear and gave us a thorough safety briefing before we hit the rapids. John and Ashley were excellent at navigating the raft and keeping us safe, while also making sure we had a blast. Throughout the trip, they shared interesting facts about the surrounding landscape and wildlife, making the experience even more enjoyable and educational for kids. Overall, I would highly recommend Sports Rafting to anyone looking for an unforgettable adventure in Cairns. And if you're lucky enough to have John and Ashley as your coach, you're in for a real treat! They truly made our day one we'll never forget.Written 6 August 2023
- rymcgui0 contributionsAn Unforgettable Outdoor Experience With Wildside Adventures!!!We had such a great day on the Tully Gorge with Wildside! If you’re looking for a safe and exciting adventure that puts you in the heart of nature, look no further. Ashlea and John were very thorough when it came to the safety briefing, before heading down the Tully Gorge. Through a series of 16 different rapids (each one different from the next), the birds and butterflies followed us down the river the whole way, while we took in all the sights, smells and sounds. This tour will spark your adrenaline and tickles all the senses and should not be missed if you’re in the Mission Beach and surrounding area. Very reasonably priced, with friendly, knowledgeable and professional staff has us giving this trip all the stars it deserves. A big thanks to Allen for setting this up and making us feel like family the whole way through. Thank you Wildside, we will be back for sure!Written 31 May 2023

- carol c0 contributionsA salient lessonWe booked for this with our two grandsons aged 9 and 11, we are in our sixties, and none of us had any experience. Our leader Leon was great, as were the two other guides Tash and Ash. The other people who were on the trip were clearly more experienced. Would i do it again? Absolutely not. For us oldies the trip was beyond us, we had neither the skill or technique required to advance through quite turbulent water (grade 2/3) of the rapids, fortunately we had already made the decision to ask the instructors to take one grandson each, which was a wise decision. We made it through the first quite gentle rapid, but at the next one the ‘Washing Machine’ we came off almost immediately and then were pulled pushed and shoved for a long time being bounced of rocks, pulled into eddies, the flow was so fast we could get into the recovery position, eventually we were rescued, but I was pooped, cut bruised and with a swollen knee and ankle. One of my grandson’s and his instructor also came out of the boat on the same rapid, but he was quickly rescued by her. At that point we wanted to stop, but …….You can’t get off! So we managed to get to the end, me squeezed in the middle of the instructor and my younger 9 year old grandson. At the end it was clear that everyone else had a great time, and I stress we were looked after, but there is a moral here, please don’t do this if you haven’t done this before and are older adults, more importantly do not have young children in your boat if you are inexperienced or a greenhorn! Always put them with a instructor. If they had been in our boats, neither my husband and I could have rescued my grandchildren we couldn’t save ourselves. Moreover both grandsons were scared we were going to die and this frightened them. Can’t fault Leon, Tash and Ash for looking after us once we were rescued, and the other group who were experienced has a fab time. But we learnt a valuable lesson, and I dread to think what might have happened had we had one grandson each in our two man boat.Written 18 January 2023
- stevenwB4706EG0 contributionsFun but difficultI took the inflatable kayak trip down the river in November. Unfortunately the water levels were low. We did spend a lot of time pushing the kayaks off the river rocks. But I did enjoy the trip. It was fun being out on the River and rolling down the rapids. The water is very warm so it’s not intimidating to get wet or step out of the kayak to cool off. The trip was a good physical workout so this activity is not for the fickle. It’s a solid upper body workout that leaves you breathless at times especially when your kayak gets lodged between two rocks in a set of rapids. So if you have a bad back or sore knees, don’t try this. The rapids are scary to look at but really are not that difficult to run. Just point the boat into the main channel and paddle hard. It is surprisingly easy and fun if you hit the fast water head on. Overall I loved the excursion. It was a good workout and definitely an adrenaline rush.Written 26 November 2022
- Ifindoubteatchocolat0 contributionsGreat morning adventure on the Tully River! Thanks to John and Rhett for such a great experience! Only a small group so we each had our own kayak. They made us feel super safe while ensuring we got to get wet and experience the white water. Got the heart racing in a beautiful location would definitely recommend for adventurous beginners. Thank you!Written 14 October 2022
- 522heikev0 contributionsTully wild side raftingLots of fun and just enough of a challenge to feel the joy of accomplishment- ie not flipping… Al is enthusiastic and keeps everyone safe and happy. - kathrenb20210 contributionsWhite water rafting. Great for adults not good for young kidsWent white water rafting. Great fun for adults. I took my 9 year old and 11year old. I totally recommend it for adults but I would never recommend it for children under 12. My 11 year old went into the water when the raft flipped and although he is a good swimmer he was very scared in the water and went under a few times. If my 9 year old had fallen in he would have really struggled to keep his head above the water. It was great to have your own raft but if you don't have a lot of experience it was hard to control especially with kids who don’t have the strength to do a lot of paddlingWritten 11 July 2022

- Cavesiders0 contributionsGreat afternoon on the Tully RiverTerrific rafting trip, safe, fun and informative. I’m perhaps not as good as I thought I would be, but the water was warm and it was actually a fun challenge climbing back into the kayak in the rapids 😂😂Written 23 May 2022

We can't recommend this trip highly enough. Totally action packed and so much fun.
Managing the two man boat ourselves was more exciting than previous guided rafting we have done. Our group of about 15 was made up of all ages and ability but we all managed to make it down the rapids with the help of our four guides led by Mark. Yes agree with other reviews, it is not for the faint hearted but if in doubt - do it!!

We took our two teenage boys on this white water adventure and it could not have been a better experience. Absolutely terrific staff who ensured we were safe but kept it fun and friendly. Our oldest son and I got to go solo and we left the water exhilarated with our achievement and feeling so strong and confident. We immediately wanted to go and do it again! Can’t recommend highly enough.

Today was incredible with John and Dan. My kids paid for me to do something wild and wonderful for my 60th birthday, and white water kayaking down the Tully ticked all the boxes. It was such a feeling of accomplishment - tackling each rapid, and a real buzz that we never feel out once. Great instruction from our guides. Thanks again - highly recommend this adventure.

Our 4 older teenagers gave this a 5 out of 5, while I would probably give it a 4. They absolutely loved it and would do it again in a heart beat. . After a LOT of rain, the river was RAGING the day we went. While it was exhilarating, if you choose to do this think carefully. This is definitely not for the faint hearted.

An excellent day spent on the river. The constant, heavy rain made it an even better experience as the river was up a little and the valley was more beautiful. The guides gave good instructions and helped everyone as needed. I highly recommend this activity for anyone in the area.

We had a great afternoon on the water with Leon and Stefan. For our young family, I couldn't recommend a better way to spend time together, outside of your comfort zone. These guys made it so easy for us (we had never paddled a kyak before). Thanks Leon, Stefan & Al.

We were picked up by our guides at our accommodation and taken to the river. All gear was provided. They even had spare trainers of a variety of sizes for you to use instead of spoiling your own. The guides were really friendly and had a good sense of humour. You could choose to raft with a partner or alone. I tried both as I was nervous to start with but it’s actually easier alone. Chicken salad wraps for lunch and fizzy drinks and a free beer for the way home. They have helmet mounts for your go pro too or you can rent one from them. It rained the night before so the river was cranking! Really fun rapids. The guides kept calm when I got thrown out of my boat down a rapid and grabbed me by the life jacket and pulled me in his. Awesome day out! Beautiful views along the route. Choose the full day and not the half. Worth the extra money as you gets lots more practice.
